Re: TB POPFILE error
Hello Paul, rebooting fixes it, and sometimes stopping and starting popfile fixes it. I know I am always connected to the internet, because mozilla still works, so it is a mail issue, I just don't know if it is a popfile issue or TB issue, OR a beta issue..I am using v0.20.1 of popfile. M Does it also happen if you don't use AVAST? PC I don't know, why should I turn off Avast? PC it happened again just now, I had to stop and restart popfile to get my PC mail. well, it was AVAST. I tried shutting off popfile with no luck. As soon as I turned off AVAST and retried getting mail, it flew. :-)) So why does AVAST mess with mail??? Don't you have it installed and configured to check your e-mail for viruses? and what is the answer?? For me, what I explained in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]. I am not familiar with AVAST or many other anti-virus but, depending on how you have it configured, you are probably checking each message (or attachment) multiple times, maybe even many times. As an example, take one message with a *.doc file attachment. This is what the anti-virus setup of many people is probably doing: 1.- Checking the message (including att.) as it is being downloaded from the POP server. 2.- Checking it again when it is being written by TB to *tmp file. 3.- Checking it again as the *.tmp file is opened to import the message to TB's message base (and apply filter, etc.) 4.- Maybe checking it again when the whole *.ttb file for the folder where it was sorted is written end opened. I you want to open and see the attachment and you double click on it: 5.- Check the *.doc when it is written to a temp file so that MS Word can actually open it (attachments cannot be opened from TB's *.ttb file, they have to be written to a temp files, unless you are keeping you attachment not inline with message body). 6.- Check again the temp *.doc file when MS Word actually opens it for viewing. This can very well be the situation for many people. What do I do? As I explained I have my anti-virus (which happens to be McAfee) configured: - To NOT check e-mail as it comes in or goes out. - Check files ONLY when written to disk, NOT when opened. - And NOT check all files types. For example I do not check *.tmp files because they are not executable. - And I may exclude some directories. I have done this for years and I have _never_ ( and I mean _never_) been infected by a virus. Obviously enough, I am also careful about opening attachments from people I don't know or with extensions such as *.scr, *.pif, etc. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Hello Paul, ok, I turned off the internet mail scanner, and turned UP the resident scanner to high mode, for reading/writing/renaming files. If I was you I would only turn it for writing/renaming files. After all, you can't read something that hasn't previously been written, right? But please don't listen to me and do it the way you feel most comfortable with. I wouldn't want you to blame me if you ever get infected by a virus. -- Best regards, Miguel A. TB POPFILE error
I have had a problem recently where I go away from the computer, while it does something CPU intensive. When I come back and start TB, or if it is running try to check mail, I get an error from every mailbox that uses popfile. The error is at the bottom of te TB window, the log panel. The error is something like: ERR: box locked rebooting fixes it, and sometimes stopping and starting popfile fixes it.
