VBG No, I compress it often though.

Hi Victor,

I really should se this to automatic on exit because all your mails pass
through your inbox even if they are move to an other folder they will
leave a copy in the inbox file.

On the positive side I do not think this is the cause of your problem. I
had this happen to me with on beta version. It just started doing this.
I would only occur if you minimized the connection center. I switched
back to the regular version and the problem never re-appeared.

Hello Gerard,

My problems with TB *freezing* all occurred with version
1.61 on XP. I uninstalled it reinstalled 1.62 - rebuilt TB
profile (2 hours) and last night till today for the first
time TB did not *freeze* on me once.

I've got to admit its just better when it doesn't *freeze*

Thank you all for your help and the above is what I did to
help fight and win the situation for at least a day :)

Just my tuppence here: I don't compress on exit, because it took a
long time (on my old 400MHz machine) with my amount of accounts and
folders to be purged and compressed. I prefer to do it when I choose
to (almost every day, now saving 10-25MB each time), not when I am in
a hurry to shut down my computer and leave. But then, I'm a
control-freak and don't like to automate too much. ;-)

I'd first try compressing your inbox folders and see how that goes.

Try the menu item Folder/Purge and Compress.

No, I compress it often though.

Usually the in-box is empty. I usually move the important messages to an
archive A.S.A.P.

ACM How many messages are there?
Well in total I have close to 6,000 messages in an archive in my account.
I know it sounds like a lot but most of it is business correspondence
I've conducted in the past, both sent received.

It is important to keep records of my work as when necessary I search
through it for what I need when I need it.

I just did a fresh install of The Bat! because of my problems. Without
putting in a backup I simply started fresh again. This time I was able
to retrieve my mail but it might be a while till I can reply as I fix
up the in-box again.

Thank you all very much for your help :)

The greatest most annoying problem halts my PC

2002-12-06 Thread Victor B. Gonzalez
Hello tbudl,

I am on my 4th days trial with The Bat! and everything
about it is amazing except for this.

The Bat! slows my entire PC down from out of no where. It
doesn't freeze exactly, it *slows* it down incredibly but
from here on I will refer to it as a freeze.

For example in the last 4 days I would leave my PC only to
come back and have to shut it down hard. The Bat! makes the
  entire system practically unresponsive.

At first I had The Bat! in Workstation with TCP/IP mode
and trying to hide the Display Connection Centre would
  *freeze* the system (hard boot).

The fix for the above was not to hide the Display
   Connection Centre.

The problem then would be it somehow would *freeze*
up again (hard boot) leaving me no choice but to
fetch my mail using another client because trying to
fetch mail with The Bat! again would *freeze* it up
 again.

I tried putting The Bat! into TCP/IP or Dial-out Server
mode and now I can hide the Display Connection Centre
  without *freezing* the entire system.

The problem is the entire system *freezes* up again
(I do not know why or how) leaving me no choice but
to fetch my mail using another client. Then I can use
   The Bat! again.

I think theres something wrong with The Bat! in fetching
my mail. At some point it *freezes* leaving me no choice
but to hard boot. Once back up again I can launch The Bat!
but can not fetch mail without *freezing* the system.

If once I boot back up I fetch mail with my other mail
client then and only then can I get back into using
  The Bat!

Does anyone have an idea? I would be greatly appreciative to
any idea or solution that doesn't hinder it's performance.

Thank you

The only thing I could think of - admittedly not really like what you
describe, but the only thing that comes to mind - is the animated bat
icon in the taskbar when you have un-read mail. It has, at times, had
bad habits of causing Explorer to use 90% of the processor, the
solution was to disable the animated icon (first page of Options -
Preferences). I'm not sure TB! still has this abnormality, as I
disabled the animation, and prefer it that way. But its worth
trying...

I'm sure its something simple. :)
