Accented uppercase letters

2023-09-27 Thread Alessio
I'm pretty sure that before Fedora 39, typing an accented character
(Italian keyboard) while the caps lock is active, will result in the
uppercase version of such accented character (i.e. è -> È).

It was an useful way to type accented capital letters instead of E'
Now it doesn't work anymore.
Or better, it doesn't work in many applications (i.e. Libreoffice,
Firefox, Evolution, GNOME Text Editor), but it works on Chrome or
Telegram.

What might be the cause?

Thanks,
A.

But what is this number that appears time to time in the prompt?

An exit code I suppose?

GNOME RDP port

2023-08-22 Thread Alessio
On GNOME 45, the default remote desktop port is now 3390, while in the
past the "default" port was used. Correct?
The point is that now, using an RDP client you have to specify the port
unlike in the past.
Should we document this somewhere?

system-upgrade on RPi fails

2023-08-21 Thread Alessio
Hello.
I don't remember if it has always been this way.
I was trying to upgrade from Fedora 38 to 39 on a Raspberry.
sudo dnf system-upgrade download --releasever=39

The point is that on the subsequent boot, following
dnf system-upgrade reboot
the operation fails because the signature verification fails, due to
the fact that the date/time of the RPi is incorrect. You know, each
time the RPi is rebooted, it lose the date/time.

So, has it always been this way and I don't remember that? Or in the
past, system-upgrade was performed after the clock was synchronized
with some source?

Since the introduction of the new account system there is no more the option to

Crash on logout

2021-09-14 Thread Alessio
There are various similar reports for F34
Like this [0] and similar issues (see the other bugs reported in this
one).

The same thing happens on F35: if you log out from GNOME, the login
screen takes some time to appear, in the log you can see a core dump,
and on the subsequent login abrt notifies about the crash.

It looks like a blocker bug [1] even if logout works per se.

Hello and welcome. I just sponsored you in the QA FAS group.

This list will get updates on different testing related activities.
Subscribing the test-announce mailing list [0] could be useful as well.

Many Test Days are coming. Stay tuned.
Fedora test days are events where we will test some novelties before
they will be released. You are welcome to join.

You can start to test updates in Bodhi [1] for Fedora 32 and Fedora 33.
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [2]. You can also use the RPM package fedora-easy-
karma for giving out feedbacks from the command line for the installed
packages (enable the updates-testing repository!).

Running release validation tests [3] [4] on F34 could be useful, since
we are near to the Beta release.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [5], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on freenode IRC, Matrix or Telegram.

Never mind. It happens only on GNOME Boxes when 3D acceleration is

This list will get updates on different testing related activities and
updates from time to time.

You can start to test updates in [http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for
Fedora 32 and Fedora 33.
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL. You can go to
bodhi.fedoraproject.org where you can sort the packages with Fedora
Releases and tags viz "pending" & "testing". You can read much about
update testing here [0]. You can also use the RPM package fedora-easy-
karma for giving out feedbacks from the command line for the installed
packages (enable the updates-testing repository!).

Running release validation tests [1] [2] on Rawhide could be also
useful.

We usually involve ourselves in activities marked in [3], you can catch
us mostly at #fedora-qa on freenode IRC or Telegram.

Ah! There is an upcoming Fedora Test Day (actually a Week) covering the
kernel 5.10 [4]. You are welcome to participate!

If you have any question, please ask!

2020-12-21 Thread Alessio
Today I've updated my test machine running Fedora Rawhide, and after
the reboot, GNOME is unable to start (the gray screen reporting "Oh no!

The suspect is glib2-2.67.1-1
Reinstalling glib2-2.67.0-7 and restarting GDM, the login window
appears.

Ah. Ok, this is the point. I was trying to reuse the existing one,
thinking that creating a new / would have deleted the /home as well.

Preserving the home on btrfs

2020-08-24 Thread Alessio
Hello.
I was performing some random test of F33.
There is a thing that I can't understand.
If I reinstall the system on an disk where I already installed Fedora
33 before, and I want to preserve the content of the home subvolume, is
this feasible? I tried various things using Anaconda, but I'm still not
able to figure out how to achieve this task.

20200604.n.0), you can run test cases which are mentioned [2] and
submit your results in the test matrix.

Note that each of the test cases[3] will have "How to test" section
which will have the steps (to be executed sequentially) and if the
results match with the expected results you can mark it as pass by
editing the wiki page {{result|PASS|}}. Always make sure
to check for "Associated release criterion" which can be found on the
top of test case page, if your test case fails you can mark it fail by
editing the wiki page {{result|FAIL|}} and file a bug at
RHBZ [4] under Fedora.

You can always find the ‘current’ validation pages using these
addresses:

For Automation, you can start looking at Open QA <

How it is going with the test image iso?

In addition, on the wiki it is state that: "It's also fine to use a

I think it should be modified.

Hello Ana, and welcome to the team.
What is your FAS account?
Someone has to sponsor your request to join the QA FAS group.

In the meanwhile you can start by testing updates in
[http://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/] for Fedora 29 and Fedora 30.
Update testing is where a tester tests a package and gives out a +1
Karma for PASS and -1 Karma for FAIL.
You can read more about update testing here:

Happy testing!

Well, maybe someone more experienced than me can be more precise. Please
correct me if i am wrong.

DOOMED should mean that something has gone very bad, and no images were
produced.
FINISHED_INCOMPLETE should mean that not all the expected images have been
built. So, if you find the ISO you are looking for, it should boot.

Check the STATUS file to see if the building is still in progress.

Silvia, Adam is right. I didn't test newest F31 composes since the report.
But by disabling selinux, these issues had gone.

What I saw related to timezone is in this screenshot:
https://alciregi.fedorapeople.org/screenshot/timezone.png
So the option to select the time zone was not grayed out, but the
subsequent list was empty. (This was with selinux enabled).

I think you are talking about another issue.
BTW timezone option is correctly grayed out if you turn automatic timezone
on.

Testing Workstation

2019-08-12 Thread Alessio
Some observations.

Fedora-Workstation-Live-x86_64-Rawhide-20190811.n.1.iso

Installed successfully, but initial setup doesn't start.
Initial setup start only adding enforcing=0 to grub.

Since in the latest composes there is no Workstation netinstall iso,
using Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-Rawhide-20190802.n.1.iso these
are the observations:

Installation works.

Problems with Date & Time settings:
- the Time Zone is not the one selected during setup.
- in settings, the Time Zone list is empty, so I can't change it.
- turning on Automatic Date & Time and Automatic Time Zone switches
lead to Settings panel to hang for some time, then they are not
preserved
- sudo timedatectl, lead to this error "Failed to query server:
Connection timed out"

Problem with GNOME Activities overview:
- clicking on Activities (or using Super keystroke), it is like that
"Type to search..." has no focus, so, in order to search for an
application, you have to click on the search bar

Hello.
Are you talking about 5.2 kernel?
Which kernel package did you use?
I installed it on F30 and I had any problem with it during the latest

Testcase realmd join sssd on Rawhide

2019-07-04 Thread Alessio
I was testing joining an Active Directory from Rawhide.

In journalctl the error seems to be:

FWIW, I never hit such problem.
The only way to get in troubles consists in hammering the history.sqlite file:
echo 1 > /var/lib/dnf/history.sqlite

Now almost all dnf operations fails (except dnf search):

dnf update
...
RuntimeError: C++ std::exception: Exec failed: file is not a database

And in the journal:
Sep 14 10:20:11 hostname python3[8830]: detected unhandled Python
exception in '/usr/bin/dnf'
Sep 14 10:20:11 hostname abrt-notification[8856]: Process 8830 (dnf)
of user 0 encountered an uncaught RuntimeError exception
-- Subject: ABRT has detected an uncaught RuntimeError exception in dnf
...

Deleting the "corrupted" history.sqlite, it restores the normal situation.

What about interoperability test day?

2018-08-15 Thread Alessio Ciregia
Hello.
I would like to ask if a test day about interoperability, if it is the
right term to use, makes sense.
Test cases that come to mind could be related to online accounts (in
gnome), to mount remote resources (cifs, sftp, etc.) in nautilus, and ssh
to remote servers.
Such test days I think could be organized when each beta release hits the
road.
What do you think?

F29 network issues

2018-07-20 Thread Alessio Ciregia
Using F29 I've spotted that sometimes (1 time every 5 reboots, more or

address of the ethernet interface is not configured.

Issuing the command

I get that the NetworkManager is not running.
Starting the service, the network start to work.

I've spotted this issue on two F29 installations.
How to diagnose this behaviour?

kernel-tests on F29 requires python3-fedora (and not python-fedora).

In addition, running such tool on F29 (kernel

/sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/spectre_v1:Mitigation: __user
