When Periyavaa was giving darshan, four or five Vidwans who had come for
darshan, were sitting on the floor.
In the course of his conversation (with the devotees), Periyavaa asked
them, When Bhaktas do namaskaram to me, I bless them with the name
'Narayana, Narayana'. What do you people who are samsAris say for blessing?
We say, '[b]dIrgha AyushmAn bhavaH[b]'; only that is the custom.
What does it mean?
Remain in saukyam for a long time' is its meaning.
Periyavaa asked all the Vidwans present there, one by one. Everyone said
the same meaning.
Periyavaa remained in silence for sometime. Then he said, The meaning you
all said is a wrong one.
The Pandits were taken aback. Everyone of them was a bade bade Vidwan, and
had earned the Siromani title.
For the Samskrta Vaakyam 'Dirgha AyushmAn bhavah' even those with a little
knowledge of Samskrtam can tell the meaning. Such simple words! Yet
Periyavaa says the meaning is wrong?
Shall I tell it myself.? The Pandits sharpened their ears.
Of the twenty-seven Yogas, one is named AyushmAn. Of the eleven KaraNas,
one is the called the Bhava. Among the week days, the Saumya Vaasaram falls
on a Wednesday. When all these three--on a Wednesday, the AyushmAn Yoga and
the Bhava KaraNa--occur together, that day is said to be shlAgya.
Therefore, if these three occur together, whatever good phalas would be
got, I bless that you may get all those fruits...
All the Vidwans got up in together and did namaskaram to Periyavaal.

*Beautiful story makes you understand that things happen for a reason*
* *
*T**he brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned
to their first ministry, to reopen a church
in suburban Brooklyn, arrived in early October
excited about their opportunities. When they saw
their church, it was very run down and needed
much work. They set a goal to have everything
done in time to have their first service
on Christmas Eve.** *
* *

*T**hey worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls,
painting, etc, and on December 18
**were ahead of schedule and just about finished.
*
*O**n December 19 a terrible tempest - a driving
rainstorm - hit the area and lasted for two days.**
*
*O**n the 21st, the pastor went over to the church.
His heart sank when he saw that the roof had
leaked, causing a large area of plaster about
20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall
**of the** **sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

*
*T**he pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor,
and not knowing what else to do but postpone** *
*the Christmas Eve service, headed home.** *
*On the way he noticed that a local business was** *
*having a flea market type sale for charity, so he** *
*stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful,** *
*handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth** *
*with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross** *
*embroidered right in the center. It was just** *
*the right size to cover the hole in the front** *
*wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.** *

*B**y this time it had started to snow. An older
woman running from the opposite direction was
trying to catch the bus. She missed it. The pastor
invited her to wait in the warm church for
the next bus 45 minutes later.**
*

*She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor
while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put
up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor
could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and
it covered up the entire problem area. *

*T**hen he noticed the woman walking down the center
aisle. Her face was like a sheet. Pastor,
she asked, where did you get that tablecloth?
The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check
the lower right corner to see if the initials 'EBG' were crocheted into
it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had
made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria. *

*T**he woman could hardly believe it as the pastor
told how he had just gotten The Tablecloth. The
woman explained that before the war she and
her husband were well-to-do people in Austria.

When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave.
Her husband was going to follow her the next week.
He was captured, sent to prison and she never saw her
husband or her home again. *

*T**he pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth;
but she made the pastor keep it for the church.
The pastor insisted on driving her home. That
was the least he could do. She lived on the other
side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn
for the day for a housecleaning job.*

*W**hat a wonderful service they had on Christmas** *
*Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the** *
*spirit were great. At the end of the service, the** *
*pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door** *
*and many said that they would return.

One older man, whom the pastor recognized** *
*from the neighborhood, continued to sit in one of the** *
*pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he** *
*wasn't leaving.** *

*T**he man asked him where he got the tablecloth on
the front wall because it was identical to one
that his wife had made years ago when
they lived in Austria before the war and how
could there be two tablecloths so much alike? *

*H**e told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he
forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was
supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and
put in a prison. He never saw his wife or his home
again in all the 35 years between.** *

*T**he pastor asked him if he would allow him to** *
*take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten
Island and to the same house where the pastor** *

*H**e helped the man climb the three flights of

the door and he saw the greatest Christmas

*A man sat at a metro station in Washington DC and started to play the
violin; it was a cold January morning. He played six Bach pieces for about
45 minutes. During that time, since it was rush hour, it was calculated
that thousands of people went through the station, most of them on their
way to work.**

Three minutes went by and a middle aged man noticed there was musician
playing. He slowed his pa...ce and stopped for a few seconds and then
hurried up to meet his schedule.

A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw
the money in the till and without stopping continued to walk.

A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but
the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late
for work.

The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged
him along, hurried but the kid stopped to look at the violinist.

Finally the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk turning his
head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All
the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.

In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for
a while. About 20 gave him money but continued to walk their normal pace.
He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one
noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

No one knew this but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the top
musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever
written,with a violin worth 3.5 million dollars.

Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a
theater in Boston and the seats average $100.

This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station

was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about
perception, taste and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a
commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty?

Do we stop to appreciate it? Do we recognize the talent in an unexpected
context?

One of the possible conclusions from this experience could be: If we do not
have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world
playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

*This is a true story and it will give you the chills.

This is a beautiful and touching story of love and perseverance.

Well worth the read.

**At the prodding of my friends I am writing this **story. My name is
Mildred Honor and I am a former elementary school music teacher from Des
Moines , Iowa .

I have always supplemented my income by teaching piano lessons -
something I have done for over 30 years.

**
**
During those years I found that children have many levels of musical
ability, and even though I have never had the pleasure of having a
prodigy, I have taught some very talented students.

However, I have also had my share of what I call 'musically challenged'
pupils - one such pupil being Robby..

Robby was 11 years old when his mother (a single mom) dropped him off
for his first piano lesson. I prefer that students (especially boys)
begin at an earlier age, which I explained to Robby. But Robby said that
it had always been his mother's dream to hear him play the piano, so I
took him as a student.

Well, Robby began his piano lessons and from the beginning I thought it
was a hopeless endeavor. As much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of
tone and basic rhythm needed to excel.
But he dutifully reviewed his scales and some elementary piano pieces
that I require all my students to learn. Over the months he tried and
tried while I listened and cringed and tried to encourage him.

At the end of each weekly lesson he would always say 'My mom's going to
hear me play someday'. But to me, it seemed hopeless, he just did not
have any inborn ability.

I only knew his mother from a distance as she dropped Robby off or
waited in her aged car to pick him up. She always waved and smiled, but
never dropped in.

Then one day Robby stopped coming for his lessons. I thought about
calling him, but assumed that because of his lack of ability he had
decided to pursue something else. I was also glad that he had stopped
coming - he was a bad advertisement for my teaching!

Several weeks later I mailed a flyer recital to the students' homes. To
my surprise, Robby (who had received a flyer) asked me if he could be in
the recital. I told him that the recital was for current pupils and that
because he had dropped out, he really did not qualify.

**He told me that his mother had been sick and unable **to take him to
his piano lessons, but that he had been practicing.
'Please Miss Honor, I've just got to play' he insisted. I don't know
what led me to allow him to play in the recital - perhaps it was his
insistence or maybe something inside of me saying that it would be all
right.

**The night of the recital came and the high school **gymnasium was
packed with parents, relatives and friends. I put Robby last in the
program, just before I was to come up and thank all the students and
play a finishing piece. I thought that any damage he might do would come
at the end of the program and I could always salvage his poor
performance through my 'curtain closer'.

Well, the recital went off without a hitch, the students had been
practising and it showed. Then Robby came up on the stage. His clothes
were wrinkled and his hair looked as though he had run an egg beater
through it. 'Why wasn't he dressed up like the other students?' I
thought. 'Why didn't his mother at least make him comb his hair for this
special night?'

**
**
Robby pulled out the piano bench, and I was surprised when he announced
that he had chosen to play Mozart's Concerto No..21 in C Major. I was
not prepared for what I heard next. His fingers were light on the keys,
they even danced nimbly on the ivories. He went from pianissimo to
fortissimo, from allegro to virtuoso; his suspendedchords that Mozart
demands were magnificent!

Never had I heard Mozart played so well by anyone his age.

After six and a half minutes he ended in a grand crescendo, and everyone
was on their feet in wild applause! Overcome and in tears, I ran up
onstage and put my arms

around Robby in joy. 'I have never heard you play like that Robby, how
did you do it?

' Through the microphone Robby explained: 'Well, Miss Honor .
remember I told you that my mom was sick? Well, she actually had cancer
and passed away this morning. And well .. she was born deaf, so
tonight was the first time she had ever heard me play, and I wanted to
make it special.'

There wasn't a dry eye in the house that evening. As the people from
Social Services led Robby from the stage to be placed in to foster care,
I noticed that even their eyes were red and puffy.
I thought to myself then how much richer my life had been for taking
Robby as my pupil.

No, I have never had a prodigy, but that night I became a prodigy
of Robby. He was the teacher and I

It is assumed by all of us that Idli, Sambar and Coffee are absolutely
native to us, with an authentic Tamil stamp on them ; and that they are
integral to our cuisine culture. Interestingly, not so.
Please read this informative article from The Hindu of date.
 nbs.

 --
From The Hindu. 17 March 2012.
  21st Century Idli.
 By JANAKI LENIN.
( Under the Column My Husband and Other Animals. )

 Idli's fermented batter.

During these past winter months, my mother went through a lot of
trouble keeping idli batter warm enough through the night. She even wrapped
an old woollen sweater around the container. During fermentation, as many
as 276 species of bacteria belch carbon dioxide and ooze lactic acid into
the batter. Like all women who are proud of the soft, light fluffiness of
their idli, my mother made life comfortable for the microbes.

Idli - Not indigenous - Entered South India about 1000 years ago.

For being so quintessentially south Indian, the process of making idli may
not be indigenous at all. Between the 8th and 12th centuries, we south
Indians borrowed fermenting and steaming techniques from Indonesia, both
critical to idli preparation as we know it today. { Note : Learnt
 actually from China, through South East route.}

Sambar - Not a Tamil Nadu original - Got it from Marathas, just about 300
 years ago !!

Idli is a vehicle for sambhar to go down. And my compadres are renowned to
put it away by the gallon. The disappointing news is sambhar is not south
 Indian either.

Marathi amti is flavoured by kokum, a concentrate made from the fruit of a
forest tree in the Western Ghats. When Sambhaji, a Maratha king who ruled
Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, in the 18th century, ran out of kokum from his
homeland, he substituted tamarind which was brought to India thousands of
years ago from Africa. Thus sambhar was born and named for its gourmet
progenitor, Sambhaji. South Indians uniquely coupled Idli, whose texture
is Indonesian with Sambar, an Afro-Marathi stew and made it our own.

Coffee - From Ethiopi - Entered Tamil Nadu two generations ago only.

We wash that delectable Idli - Sambar breakfast down with cups of coffee.
 Coffee
may be from Ethiopia but south Indians brew a sweet and mean ‘filter kapi'.
In my family, the “tradition” of drinking this beverage began with my
parent's generation. My grandparents and great-grandparents drank coffee
only on special occasions. One great-grandmother drank a non-caffeinated
beverage made of roasted coriander seeds and dried ginger called ‘coriander
coffee'. She may not have known that coriander was domesticated in the
Mediterranean and ginger probably in Southeast Asia.

Europe - Chinese noodles lead to spaghetti.

Cooking techniques and foreign ingredients fertilised Europe too.
According to one story, Marco Polo introduced Chinese noodles, which later
became spaghetti, to his homeland in the 13th century, while another story
suggests that noodles may have followed ancient trade routes preceding the
intrepid traveller by centuries. However, many believe pasta is a
home-grown invention. Whatever be pasta's past, tomatoes in the sauce are
without a doubt American. Like south Indians, Italians borrowed elements
from elsewhere to come up with spaghetti smothered in tomato sauce.

Non- Indian origin vegetables - Includes Pumpkin !!

Many of the vegetables we use every day – cabbage, potato, pumpkin, carrot,
and beans – are not Indian.

What did we eat before this cornucopia arrived on our shores? Perhaps
some gourds, leafy vegetables, some legumes, a range of yams, parts of
banana trees like pith, flowers, and green fruit. None of which Rom (
Author's husband ) will touch, not even with a fork at the end of a barge
 pole.

Our elders ate a lot of wild games.

However, any mention of the wild game ancient south Indians may have eaten
is enough to make his carnivorous palate salivate.

Should we continue with the same type of Idli and sambar - Frozen in Time.

Two decades ago, friends and cousins of my generation left for the U.S.
with heavy pressure cookers in their suitcases. Now, for grinding idli
batter, nephews and nieces pack heavier “wet grinders” which even come in
110 volt versions. Not content serving us idli in their homes, when we
visit them in California, they proudly take us to the nearest Udupi
restaurant. It's as if we never left home.

Our fore fathers did not mind adding foreign origin foods.

The origin of plant species interests me greatly. If African tamarind
flavoured many a dish long before Sambhaji concocted sambhar, I wondered
 what our cuisine was like

Re: [sss-global] Colours of the world

2012-03-04 Thread Srinivasan MS

*
* *
*

Once upon a time the colours of the world started to quarrel.
All claimed that they were the best.
 The most important.
 The most useful.
 The favorite.

 Green said:
Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope.I was
chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would die. Look
over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority.

 Blue interrupted:
You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is
the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the
deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you
 would all be nothing.

 Yellow chuckled:
You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the
world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow.Every
time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile.
Without me there would be no fun.

*Orange started next to blow her trumpet:*
I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious
for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins.
Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and papayas. I don't hang
around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my
beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you.

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out:
I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color
of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire
into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am
the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poinsettia and the
 poppy.

Purple rose up to his full height:
He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: I am the color of royalty and
power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am the sign
of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They listen and obey.

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with
just as much determination: Think of me. I am the color of silence. You
hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent
thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance
and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own
superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was
a startling flash of bright lightening thunder rolled and boomed. Rain
started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear, drawing
close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak:
You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate
the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special purpose,
unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me.

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands.

 The rain continued:

From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a
great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The
Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow.

And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a Rainbow appears in
the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another.

That's no crab - it's a scorpion (Scorpio), said the archer (Sagittarius).

The origin of Valentine's Day

2012-02-18 Thread Srinivasan MS
Valentine day is over. we have seen for and against the celebration. some
outfit has declared that this is against our culture, western culture has
been dumped on us Her is the version that the origin of valentine day is in
india.
I just share it just for academic reason.

**

*This is hilarious!***
  **
*In spite of what you have been told by everyone, the truth is that Valentine's
Day originated hundreds of years ago, in India, and to top it all, in the
state of Gujarat !!!* **
  **
* It is a well known fact that Gujarati men, specially the Patels,
continually mistreat and disrespect their wives (Patelanis) . One fine day,
it happened to be the 14th day of February, one brave Patelani, having had
enough torture by her husband, finally chose to rebel by beating him up
with a Velan (rolling pin to make chapattis).* **
  **
*Yesthe same Velan which she used daily to make chapatis for him
only this time, instead of the dough, it was the husband who was flattened.*
**
  **
*This was a momentous occasion for all Gujarati women and a revolt soon
spread, like wild fire, with thousands of housewives beating up their
husbands with the Velan. There was an outburst of moaning chapati-ed
husbands all over Anand and Amdavad.* **
  **
*The Patel menfolk quickly learnt their lesson and started to behave more
respectfully with their Patelanis.* **
  **
*Thereafter, on 14th February every year, the womenfolk of Gujarat would
beat up their husbands, to commemorate that eventful day - the wives having
the satisfaction of beating up their husbands with the Velan and the men
having the supreme joy of submitting to the will of the women they loved.* *
*
  **
*Soon The Gujju men realized that in order to avoid this ordeal they need
to present gifts to their wivesthey brought flowers and sweets. This is
how the tradition - Velan time - began.* **
  **
*As Gujarat fell under the influence of Western culture, the ritual soon
spread to Britain and many other Western countries, specifically, the catch
words 'Velan time' !!! In course of time, their foreign tongues, this got
anglicized to 'Velantime' and then to 'Valentine'. And thereafter, 14th of
February, came to be known as Valentine's Day and now you know the true
story of Valentine's day*

Interesting: NRI TAXATION IN INDIA

2012-02-12 Thread Srinivasan MS

*Dear friends i am sharing *
 **
   *AS RECIEVED*
*NEW INDIAN RULES FOR TAXATION FROM APRIL/2012 *

An NRI is not considered as NRI if he comes to Indiafor 60 days more
in a year but will be taxed on his all the income the person has earned in
the foreign county during the year.
It does not matter whether the person has lived outside India for
decades. This means from now on, if an NRI goes to India even for a few
trips and that cumulates to over 60 days in the year, will be considered as
a local citizen and will have to declare his foreign income and pay tax on
 it.
Therefore, henceforth going to our own country, we will have to make
sure that we go only in an emergency but not to meet relatives; neither for
a social trip nor for long medical checkups NRIs should now have to get
their children married in foreign countries and hold all the other
celebrations with close relatives outside India . *It is cheaper to buy
tickets for close relatives to participate in our children’s weddings in
 foreign countries*

 * Important news for NRIs! *
Now that the Indian government does not require NRI’s foreign exchange,
we will now become *NOT REQUIRED INDIANS*. Please forward this to all
your NRI friends in your forward list.
  *THE NEW CLAUSE *

Under clause 4 of the direct taxes code, which is to come into effect from
1st April 2012, the status of resident but not ordinarily resident, which
is currently available under section 6 (6) of the income tax act of 1961,
 is sought to be removed.
After the code comes into force, a person will become resident in India
in any financial year if either of the following two conditions is
 fulfilled:
  · If he is in India for a period or periods repeat periods
aggregating to 182 days or more in a financial year
 OR
 · If he is in India for 60 days or more in a financial year and
has also been in India for 365 days or more within the four years
 immediately preceding that financial year.
Therefore, a non resident Indian would become resident in India under the
direct tax code if either of the aforesaid two conditions is fulfilled, and
will be liable to tax in India on his world income. This would be
notwithstanding the fact the he may be a person resident outside India
under the provisions of the foreign exchange management act 1999.

 * Requested Enlightening from the expert on income tax laws for the
 information of NRI members.*

A man suffered a serious heart attack, while shopping in a store.
The store clerks called 911, when they saw him collapse to the floor. The
paramedics rushed the man to the nearest hospital, where he had emergency
open heart bypass surgery.

He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns, at the
Catholic Hospital he was taken to. A nun was seated next to his bed holding
a clip board loaded with several forms and a pen. She asked him how he was
going to pay for his treatment.

Do you have health insurance?, she asked.

He replied in a raspy voice, No health insurance.

The nun asked, Do you have money in the bank?

He replied, No money in the bank.

Do you have a relative, who could help you with the payments? asked the
irritated nun.

He said, I only have a spinster sister, and she is a nun.

The nun became agitated and announced loudly, Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns
are married to God.

*The patient replied, Perfect. Send the bill to my brother-in-law.*

 *Mistaken Identity*

 Dear MS Srinivasan ji,

Delighted to read your mail and the outpour of gratitude - doesn’t matter
mistaking me for 'Cleveland' Sundaram. I am not Cleveland V.V. Sundaram. In
fact I am yet to visit Cleveland in life. I am just V.V. Sundaram - with no
prefix or suffix. And if you insist I might at best be hailed Vadakkanthara
Sundaram. Even when on phone with bank or airlines, to help them get my
initials correct I avoid the customary prompting, V for Victory, again V
for Victory, lest it mistakenly boosts my ego that it has been victory
 all the way.

This is not the first occasion that I have been mistaken for Cleveland
V.V. Sundaram. When I was looking for a bride for my second son, I got a
call during my post-retirement stint in Geneva, and the girl's father spoke
to me somewhat like intimate friends - just short of *vaada, poda.* I
just couldn't figure out. I even wondered if any of my friends were playing
pranks with me. Sensing a lack of enthusiasm in my response, he ultimately
enquired if he was not speaking to Cleveland Sundaram. I told him I was WHO
Sundaram. I hesitated even this prefix, because I ran the risk of being
mistaken for a popular and Geneva-born-and-raised Sundaram in WHO.

On the brighter side, and in strict confidence, naming myself as WHO
Sundaram did pay dividends. When my wife was looking for a job to last my
temporary assignment in Geneva, she got a call from another UN agency. The
Personnel Officer interviewed her along with a host of others, and offered
her the job at a higher grade than advertised. I was very sure he had
mistaken my wife, Lalitha Sundaram, for someone from the *other* Sundaram
family. Yes, life does offer favours occasionally, mistakenly though.

The other occasion when I benefitted by mistaken identify was when I was
constructing my house in Delhi. It was numbered 8/13, in a co-operative
house building society. The Society president's daughter's house was
numbered 13/8 - just the reverse. The President, it would seem, had kept
all the housing department officials in good humour, and in return got all
the favours for his relatives. So when I went to get Certificate for having
completed the job up to the door level, the official saw the house number,
got up from his seat, and ordered tea for me. He asked his assistant to
issue the certificate on the spot telling him that he had already inspected
the site the previous day. And I walked out with the certificate, feeling
 on top of the world.

But every dog has it day. He realized his mistake, though it was late. So,
when I went for the Completion Certificate - the final contact with them.
he ripped me off pointing out mistakes after mistakes at every nook and
corner of my house. I was in a fix. Fortunately, one of the resourceful
house owners came to my rescue. He knew of a house with similar deviations
having been given the completion certificate. You just quote it, and see
how they refuse it. So did I, and got the certificate in a week's time.

Sorry for this divergence, MS ji. Nice hearing from you thanks to
Cleveland Sundaram. Just to refresh your memory, I am the same Sundaram who
spoke to you a couple of years ago when you were in Chicago, all set to
take off for Pune the next day. Rings a bell?

 Best regards.

Stunning revelation: West Indies’ cricket captain, Darren Sammy, is a Tam
 brahm!!!

  --
 http://www.theunrealtimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/sammy-sandhi.jpg

Sammy punctiliously performs Sandhya Vandanam before heading for practise

West Indian skipper, Darren Sammy, is not of Afro-carribean ethnicity as
is widely believed but a *pucca *Tam brahm!! This stunning revelation
came to the fore after the cricketer was spotted performing *Sandhya
Vandanam* in the wee hours of dawn in his 5 star hotel before the team
 headed out for nets practice.

Darren Sammy or more accurately Muralidharan Swamy (the name was
anglicized after most West Indians found it impossible to pronounce the
original South Indian monicker) hails from an orthodox Iyer family, the
Swamys, who incidentally are distantly related to Janata Party President,
Dr. Subramanian Swamy. The West Indian all rounder spent his formative
years in Chennai’s Mylapore before migrating to the Caribbean island nation
of St. Lucia in pursuit of his dream of becoming a pace bowler.

“Even as a school-going kid, Swamy was rather different from his Padma
Seshadri classmates,” disclosed Ambi *mama*, Sammy’s maternal uncle.
“While his fellow Iyer cousins reveled in solving Quantum Mechanics wave
equations, cracking Mathematics Olympiad problems or listening to Carnatic
music, Swamy’s attention used to frequently drift through the window onto
the neighbouring street where little urchins played cricket with a rubber
ball. Swamy would often bunk his classes and join them.”

And to add to his parents’ consternation, Sammy idolized the fearsome West
Indian pace battery of the 80s rather than India’s legendary spin quartet
comprising Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar, and Venky. Matters came to a head
after the Tenth Board exams, when Sammy’s dad, Varun Swamy, asked him to
“live up to the family’s scholastic tradition” by getting into IIT. So the
budding cricketer, very much against his wishes, was forced to attend 3
hour long classes for IIT-JEE in T-Nagar’s Satyamurthy school. Sammy
rebelled. With support from Ambi *mama*, Sammy found the courage to go
against his parents’ wishes and migrated to the Carribean where his
cricketing talent blossomed after he was selected to play for St. Lucia in
the Red Stripe Bowl. Within a few years, he earned his West Indies cap.

“*Aiyyo*, how much I told Murali to take up chess as a hobby after
getting into a top Engineering college. But no use, he only wanted to play
cricket, *chae*,” wistfully recalled Murali’s dad, Mr. Varun Swamy, who
still entertains hopes that Darren Muralidharan will chuck his cricketing
career and enroll for an engineering seat from Guindy Engineering College,
his cousin Karthik Aiyer’s *alma mater*.

Sammy is still very much in touch with his roots though. “Swamy regularly
does Sandhyavandanam, strictly avoids non-vegetarian food including eggs,
and absolutely loves curd rice. Why, just two months back he asked me to
courier a new *poonal,*” said Ambi *mama*, with a touch of unmistakable
pride. However, Ambi *mama*‘s only gripe is that Sammy chose fast
bowling instead of the more cerebrally challenging art of spin bowling.
“Look at Ravichandran Ashwin. He chose a trade where his natural Iyer
intelligence will invariably enable him to shine. I don’t know, but
sometimes I feel fast bowling is a little..er.. unbrahminical,” frowned
 Ambi *mama*.

Tam brahms in general have welcomed the news that Darren Sammy is one of
their own. BCCI President and India Cements owner, N Srinivasan, has
invited Darren Sammy to join his IPL team, CSK. “Presently, too many
Iyengars in team, *pa*. Sammy’s inclusion will tilt the scales in favour
 of Iyers,” explained Mr. Srinivasan.

Former Union Minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar, while berating *The Unreal
Times *for wasting space on trivial issues such as caste identity of a
sportsperson rather than focusing on weightier social issues such as rising
poverty, nevertheless remarked in a soft voice, “Sammy should suffix ‘Iyer’
to his name so that people don’t misplace his ethnic identity. He had even
 me confused there.”

Re: Fw: A simple but effective exercise - To determine how fit you are

2011-11-27 Thread Srinivasan MS
*
*

**
   To All My Well Wishers,

Just try out and give a feed back and some one experinced in combining all
feed back and tell us how far it useful ?

   *SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE EXERCISE*
 *[image: Fun Info @
 Keralites.net]http://keralites.net/
 *
The essence of the exercise is that your *Eyes Must be Closed when
you are doing this exercise. You must practise the Jin Ji Du Li exercise
with the eyes closed.* This exercise was so simple and amazing that I
thought I had to share it here.

  *Here is the exercise:*
*Stand on one leg while your eyes are closed*. That is all. Just try it
right now, stop reading and stand up, close your eyes and try standing on
 one foot.

If you are not able to stand for less than 10 seconds, it means that
your body has degenerated to 60 to 70 years old level in other words, you
may be only 40 years old, but your body has aged a lot faster.
I tried this exercise myself when I read the mail. I thought “oh, big
deal, I’m sure I can do this easily” I was fooling myself, I’m glad I tried
it because I discovered much to my surprise that while I could stand easily
on one foot with my eyes open, trying the same thing with my eyes closed
was another story! I just could not keep my balance for more than two to
three seconds before I started wobbling and hopping around.

You do not need to lift your leg high, if your internal organs are out
of synch, even lifting your leg this bit will make you wobble.
Now this was quite scary because it told me that my body was almost 60
years old and here was me, barely into my forties! These Chinese are really
very advanced in their knowledge of the human body. It was very heartening
to know that *frequent and regular practice can help you recover your
sense of balance. In fact Chinese specialists suggest daily practice of Jin
Ji Du Li for 1 minute, this helps prevent dementia.*

*You can try slightly closing both eyes while practicing Jin Ji Du Li,
instead of completely closing them*; in fact this is what the health
specialist Zhong Li Ba Ren recommends.
Daily practice of Jin Ji Du Li, can help in healing many illnesses or
 diseases like

- *Hypertension, *
- *High Blood Sugar or diabetes, *
- *Neck and Spinal diseases, *
- *it can also prevent you from getting dementia. *

Zhong Li Ba Ren has written a book titled Self Help is Better than
Seeking Doctors' Help, which is a bestselling book that has been the best
seller health book in China since it was first published last year. Its
success can be measured by the fact that it has been reprinted 12 times
within 6 months, with more than 1 million copies sold. The book is a hot
seller because is it teaches many simple practical health tips.

It is said that according to the understanding of Chinese physicians*,
diseases appear in the body because the coordination between the various
internal organs encounter problems and that causes the body to lose its
balance.* Jin Ji Du Li can readjust this inter-relationship of the organs
and how they function with each other. Zhong Li Ba Ren stated that many
people can't stand on one foot with their eyes closed for even 5 seconds,
but later on as they practice it daily, are able to stand for more than 2
 minutes.
As you gain ability to stand for longer time, the feeling of head
heavy, light feet” disappears. As benefits or practising Jin Ji Du Li, you
will experience that the *quality of sleep improves, the mind clears up
and memory improves significantly*. Most importantly if you can practice
Jin Ji Du Li with your eyes closed for 1 minute every day, you will not get
dementia. (I think it this also means the brain will remain healthy).

Zhong Li Ba Ren explained that there are *6 important meridians passing
through our legs.* When you stand on a single leg, the weak meridian will
feel sore while getting the necessary exercise, and as this happens, the
corresponding organs of these meridians and their path-ways, start getting
the necessary tuning. This method can focus or concentrate the awareness,
and *channel the body's qi to the foot.* The beneficial effects of
practising Jin Ji Du Li on various illnesses associated with hypertension,
diabetes, neck and spinal diseases are quick to be seen and felt. Jin Ji Du
 Li can also *prevent gout*.

Jin Ji Du Li helps to Strengthen body Immunity rapidly
Jin Ji Du Li it is suitable for everyone generally. It is the basic
cure for Cold Feet Disease” and it can also strengthen the body’s
immunity. You do not have to wait until you have any illness to start
practising Jin Ji Du Li. It is especially beneficial for young people, when
they practice it daily while they are healthy, so that their chances of
contracting the various illness associated with aging is comparative lower.

Please note that it is *not suitable for people over 70 years old, or
those old people whose legs are not strong and

Spiritual Masters words

   *Spiritual Masters words *

This is a short story that shows the power and meaning of the words that
comes out of a Spiritual Master. Words of a spiritual master are not mere
words thrown in air, they are powerful and yield.

Once a Spiritual Master visited a certain city. The disciple begged to the
Master to give a mass public darshan. The Master refused for the same and
said that, that was not the purpose of His visit. The disciple would not
listen to the Master and kept pestering. When the pestering reached a
certain limit, the master agreed but said, He will leave His body, seven
days after the mass public darshan.

The disciple took the Master's words lightly. The mass darshan happened and
ended on a happy note.

From the next day the disciples noted that Master's health started to
improve drastically. He looked younger, pink and stronger every day. This
created disturbance in the disciple. The general public started making
snide remarks that the Master was hoax and a charlatan.

On the appointed seventh day after the mass darshan, the disturbance of the
disciple crossed the limits. In ferocious anger, they themselves stone the
Master to death. The words of the master came true to the date and time.

Disciple were in remorse, but it was too late.

Speaking without speaking

Once, during the mid-eighties, Kanchipuram Mahaswamiji Sri
Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Swamiji (Maha Periyava) desired to see Bhagavan
Yogiramsuratkumar and invited him through a personal attendant. He asked
the personal attendant to bring Yogiji.

Yogiji, accepting the invitation of Kanchi Maha Periyava, went to
Kanchipuram. Maha Periyava sat down and so did Yogi. Maha Periyava and Yogi
looked at each other. They did not speak a word to each other verbally.
After looking at each other for sometime, Kanchi Periyava, laughing
lightly, said to his personal attendant who had brought Yogi to Kanchi,
“The matter for which he came is over. You may take him back to
Tiruvannamalai.”

Did they meet just to see each other or did they exchange some news?
Nothing could be comprehended. Yogi went back to Tiruvannamalai.

Later, when Yogiji was asked what really happened, as there was no
conversation and yet Maha Periyava remarked that the work was over, Yogi
Ramsuratkumar explained thus:

“We both spoke to each other – through the mind.

Kanchi Periyava said, ‘Bodendra chanted Rama Nama throughout his life. He
was a ‘Peettadipathi’ of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Later, installing his
successor for the Peetam he went around giving ‘upadesa’ of Rama Nama for
all, irrespective of caste and creed; he offered the ‘upadesa’ that the
Name of the Lord was the only ‘gati’ (succour) for all in this Kali Yuga.
Living in this manner his body was transformed into a ’siddha sarira’. He
attained ‘jiva samadhi’ in Govindapuram on the banks of the Cauvery.
Living in ‘jiva samadhi’ for the past 300 years, to date, he is incessantly
chanting Rama Nama. You may go and remain in that Govindapuram where
Bodendra is.’

This beggar replied, ‘No! No! For this beggar Tiruvannamalai is enough.’

Acharya also said, ‘OK’.

This is what we spoke!”

Five More Minutes

*While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a
playground. “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy
in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide. “He’s a fine looking boy”
the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”*

*Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we
go, Melissa?” Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just
five more minutes.” The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike
to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again
to his daughter. “Time to go now?”*

*Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”
The man smiled and said, “OK.” “My, you certainly are a patient father,”
the woman responded.*

*The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a
drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent
much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes
with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa. She thinks
she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more
minutes to watch her play.”*

*Moral: Life is all about making priorities, and family is one and only
priority on top of all other, so spend all time you can with loved ones.*

weak minded

2011-10-25 Thread Srinivasan MS
*A foot has no nose*

Of the many interactions I had with my mother those many years ago, one
stands out with clarity. I remember the occasion when mother sent me to the
main road, about twenty yards away from the homestead, to invite a passing
group of seasonal work-seekers home for a meal. She instructed me to take a
container along and collect dry cow dung for making a fire. I was then to
prepare the meal for the group of work-seekers.

The thought of making an open fire outside at midday, cooking in a large
three-legged pot in that intense heat, was sufficient to upset even an
angel. I did not manage to conceal my feelings from my mother and, after
serving the group, she called me to the veranda where she usually sat to
attend to her sewing and knitting.

Looking straight into my eyes, she daid Tsholofelo, why did you sulk when I
requested you to prepare a meal for those poor destitute people? Despite my
attempt to deny her allegation, and using the heat of the fire and the sun
as an excuse for my alleged behaviour, mother, giving me a firm look, said
Lonao ga lo na nko - A foot has no nose. It means: you cannot detect
what trouble may lie ahead of you.

Had I denied this group of people a meal, it may have happened that, in my
travels some time in the future, I found myself at the mercy of those very
individuals. As if that was not enough to shame me, mother continued: Motho
ke motho ka motho yo mongwe. The literal meaning: A person is a person
because of another person.

TEACHER: GOOD READ FOR EVERY ONE

2011-10-24 Thread Srinivasan MS
From friend , Nityanandam Veluri

TEACHER: GOOD READ FOR EVERY ONE

 .
Forwarding a priceless one for you.

 *Who is a teacher**??*
 *
 **This is a very good one !** - V**ery **M**oving !***

*From A School Principal's speech at a graduation..*

*He said Doctor wants his child to become a doctor.
Engineer wants his child to become engineer..
Businessman wants his ward to become CEO.
BUT a teacher also wants his child to become one of them..
Nobody wants to become a teacher BY CHOICE Very sad but that's the
 truth.!!!*

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued,

What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in
life was to become a teacher?

 To stress his point he said to another guest;

You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?

Teacher Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied,

You want to know what I make?

(She paused for a second, then began...)

Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could.

I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor winner.

I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't
make them sit for 5 min. without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental.

You want to know what I make?
(She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table)

 I make kids wonder.

 I make them question.

I make them apologize and mean it.

I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions.

I teach them how to write and then I make them write.
 Keyboarding isn't everything.

I make them read, read, read.

I make them show all their work in math.
They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator.

I make my students from other countries learn everything they need
to know about English while preserving their unique cultural identity.

I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe.

Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they
were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life

( Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.)

Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money
isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because
they are ignorant. You want to know what I make?

I MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ALL YOUR LIVES, EDUCATING KIDS PREPARING THEM TO
 BECOME CEO's DOCTORS ENGINEERS..

What do you make Mr. CEO?

His jaw dropped; he went silent.

THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER CEO, EVERY PERSON YOU KNOW. Even
all personal teachers like mother, father, brother, sister, coach and
 spiritual leader/teacher.

 Dear Srinivasan ji,

Thanks for sharing links to some of Madan Mohan's songs as well. If my
memory serves me right, the song Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil, from Bees Saal
Baad, was composed by Hemant Kumar.

I guess you primarily picked from your collection of haunting compositions
of murder-mystery films (Mera Saya, Woh KaunThi by Madan Mohan), and
naturally Hemant Da's Bees Saal Baad also found its place. Should this be
so, then probably it might be worth including Salil Choudhry's Aaja Re
Pardesi... (Madhumati). Yes, the good old days.

I am sure your domain extends to Tamil songs as well. How about
recollecting compositions of S.M. Subbiah Naidu, G. Ramanathan,
Vishwanathan-Ramanurthy, K.V. Mahadevan, and of course the
 still-going-strong Ilaya Raja.

They Didn't Have the green thing in her Day!!!

2011-09-07 Thread Srinivasan MS

 * EXCELLENT (Bet you will want to share this!!!)*

A Very Interesting Observation to Share

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should
bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't' good for the
 environment.

The woman apologized to him and explained, We didn't have the green thing
 back in my day.

The clerk responded, That's our problem today. The former generation did
not care enough to save our environment.

He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day.

Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles
to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and
sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So
 they really were recycled.

But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day.

In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in
every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and
 didn't
climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the
throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling
machine burning up 2000 watts - wind and solar power really did dry the
clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not
 always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her
 day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every
 room.
And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the
size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by
hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you.
When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded
 up
old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the
lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by
working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills
 that
 operate on electricity.

But she's right; they didn't have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or
a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their
writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the
razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just
 because the blade got dull.

But they didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to
school or rode the school bus instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour
taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank
of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized
gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space
in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it SAD the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks
were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?

Dear Mr Prime Minister,
*

I am writing this to you as I always assumed you were a decent man. I was
waiting for your speech on August 15th, hoping you would somehow say
something meaningful on corruption that would redeem your long silence.

Your speech was disappointing. What you said was inane and trite, while you
held on to the tenet the corruption cannot be fought with hunger strikes. I
think you did more to insult the Indian independence movement which fought
through reason, fought through faith, fought through the reasonableness of
the fast and the hunger strike. Hunger strikes do not threaten you. They
only ask you to look deeper within your self. Gandhi fasted so that a
society and he could literally come back to its senses.

By arresting Anna Hazare, Manmohan Singh has made a mockery of democracy.

You seen a very timid man, Mr Prime Minister, you call on us to follow
proper procedure. You seem to think politics is only a bit of table manners
which does not allow people to object to what is allegedly served as food on
the table. I think you are wrong Mr. Prime Minister and wrong in more ways
than one. When you stood at Lal Qila, this time, one realized your goodness
was not enough, because your goodness hides the arrogance and incompetence
of your colleagues.

Think of Anna Hazare, Mr Prime Minister. He is another mild man like you and
today he stands for the ideals the Congress has forgotten. Let me list them
out- the dreams of honesty and idealism, the diligence that politics demands
and the intelligence that morality requires.

For the young, Hazare represents the national movement today. He is a
reminder of what the nation could have been. You are reminder of what the
nation has become, a goodness that became timid as it fell prey to power.
The sadness Mr Prime Minister is you should have protested. Mentioning
tamely that you do not mind being under the scrutiny of the Lok Pal is not
enough. Such coyness would be dismissed by your colleagues who know it is
not meant for you but for Prime Ministers in waiting. You can still create
history by joining Hazare.

One does not have to ask permission to fast. We do not need it. History and
ethics do not ask permission from the inanity of politicians. Step down from
power to be powerful again Mr Prime Minister. Join Hazare. Walk with the
people. Dispense with blue turbaned technocrats and your conniving
colleagues. They are forgettable anyway. Hazare has a sense of the lived
past. He is showing the possibility of a cleaner future.

I am telling you all this Mr Prime Minister because someone must tell you
that you have let down a generation that believed in you. Long years ago
James Otis, the American politician, said, No taxation without
representation. Another great American, whose writings Gandhi thrived on
talked of The Duty of Civil Disobedience. It is out of Thoreau's ideas that
Gandhi wove his ideas of Satyagraha. Now Mr Prime Minister it is time to
tell you representation without responsibility is corruption, legislation
without accountability is a farce.

You and the Congress have perpetuated this situation. It is time you accept
that a legislator who breaks the law or connives so that others break it,
cannot be above the law. He no longer represents the people. Corruption is
an act of legislative betrayal. It hollows out the act of representation and
destroys democracy.

Anna Hazare and his team will go on fast, the battle of JP Park will begin.
Hazare's team has asked you and your government for permission for space.
They have tried to dialogue with you and your cabinet colleagues. Mr Prime
Minister, the role of dynasties is over and it is time that you recognize
that no Prime Minister can be above the law.

I admit Hazare is a difficult man. I think there are many who feel he is
overheating legislation by speeding it up. By prefabricating legislation you
might actually be disinstitutionalizing the very processes you want to
sustain. Maybe this is the point and it is a valid one. It is the kind of
argument Aruna Roy and others might have made. But what deflates your view
is your move to deny Hazare and the people the right to protest at Jantar
Mantar.

Once upon a time an old man spread rumours that his neighbour was a thief.
As a result, the young man was arrested. Days later the young man was proven
innocent. After been released he sued the old man for wrongly accusing him.
In court the old man told the Judge: 'They were just comments, didn'tharm

The judge, before passing sentence on the case, told the old man:'Write all

A great forest is set on fire by a small spark. Likewise, our tongue also is
a fire. If used for wrong means it can corrupt not only the others but also
the person speaking those ill words demeaning others. A bad tongue sets the
whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire to be ruined
totally.
Whereas the mouth of a righteous man utters only words of wisdom, and his
tongue speaks only what is just.
Let's all be masters of our mouths, so that we won't be slaves of our words.
Let us keep our tongue from evil and our lips from speaking lies and

Mother of all scams: Men deliver babies in Rajasthan, claims health centre

[image: Mother of all

Records claim that a 60-year-old woman delivered babies twice within a year.
UDAIPUR: Men in this Rajasthan district can deliver babies. Surprised? This
is the claim of a health centre.

The local health department has unearthed a scam at Gogunda Community Health
Centrehttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Gogunda-Community-Health-Centre
 in Kotda http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Kotdatown, where at
least 32 men are recorded to have delivered babies, a senior official who is
investigating the scandal, said on Saturday.

The pregnancy assistants of the centre allegedly provided false delivery
details to obtain government aid meant for below poverty line (BPL) pregnant
women under the centrally sponsored scheme, the 'Janani Suraksha Yojana
(JSY)'.

Names of at least 32 men, claiming to have delivered babies at the centre,
are mentioned in the records, the official said.

Many of them have been mentioned several times in the records, he said.

The pregnancy ward's head has made entries of 250 deliveries in one year,
the official said.

Records claim that a 60-year-old woman delivered babies twice within a year.
Another woman named
Sitahttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Sita-(musician) is
shown to have delivered 24 babies in a year.

The pregnancy ward's head has herself claimed to have delivered 11 babies in
a year, the officer said.

She had been removed immediately after the scam came to light, but now she
is missing, the official said.

A complaint will be lodged after completion of a departmental enquiry, he
said.

A team of three senior doctors has been constituted, he added.

The JSY aims to reduce the number of maternal and neonatal deaths among
pregnant women of BPL, above 19 years of age and up to two live births. It
integrates help in the form of cash with antenatal care during the pregnancy
period, institutional care during delivery as well as immediately after
delivery.

Under the scheme, Rs.1,700 is given to the woman on child delivery while the
midwife gets about Rs.200.

The scam came to light on Friday.

Subject: GlobalMatri Fund Raising Initiative for Kanchi Acharyas ~ Our
weekend blitz for July 23, 2011
To: Sivasankaran rssi...@googlemail.com

*Dear Parents of Brides and Grooms living the World over!

We feel honored and humbled by an Appeal from Dharma Rakshana Trust,
appended below, so this week-end, our Initiative is dedicating its efforts
to support a noble and worthy fund raising cause, away from its regular
matrimonial newsletter.

Dharma Rakshna Trust was established to funding the legal battle that the
Kanchi Acharyas have had to face for the last 7 years through an unfortunate
incident to brandish our revered Acharyas and the Hindu community. Kanchi
Acharyas have so far refused to use the funds from the Kanchi Kamakoti Matam
and/or other Temple funneled contributions for their personal defense. And
so the Trustees of Dharma Rakshana Trust have miraculously sustained
themselves in fighting the ordeal over these seven long years and have
always found some messenger of God to help them with their fund raising
efforts, whenever needed in the past.

Dharma Rakshna Trust and its Trustees are in the last phase of the legal
battle to defend our Acharyas and have projected that they will need about
$100,000 ~ $125,000 equivalent to meet the legal expenses, when the matter
moves forward to trial and conclusion phase!. Our Initiative has been asked
to rally its membership base in this fund raising effort and we would like
to seek your assistance in the following manner:

We appeal to all parents of brides and grooms registered in our Initiative,
regardless of their sect, sub-sect or Mutt affiliation or other following ~
for each one of them to give a very modest and nominal contribution of $108
or $75.00, or $51.00 or $25.00 towards this cause, whatever suits your
pocket book. You could ask your sons or daughters in the U.S. to send in a
check made out to Dharma Rakshana Trust ~ Memo in on the check as for
Kachi Periyva Defense Fund and mail the checks to:

SASHTI, INC.
3614 Columbia Boulevard
Garland, Texas 75043-2246
U.S.A.

We will in turn will pull in all of the contributions received from the U.S.
and Canada and send them to Dharma Rakshna Trust. Each of your
contributions will be individually acknowledged by the Trust.

Alternatively, we ask the parents in India to send in a check favoring: Dharma
Rakshana Trust in the amounts of Rupees 5,001/- (equivalent to $108), Rs.
2501/- (equivalent to $50 - $75) or Rs. 1,001/- (equivalent to $25.00) ~
memo in on your checks as Kanchi Periyava Defense Fund ~ such checks may
be couriered directly to:

Dharma Rakshana Trust
39/4 C.P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet,
Chennai 600 018

In addition, we are asking businessmen, philanthropists, doctors and lawyers
from around the world to help us by subscribing to our fund raising effort
as follows: *

 *

Platinum donor ~ US$2,001 (or Indian rupees 100,000)
Gold Donor ~ US$1,001 or (Indian rupees 50,000)
Silver Donor ~ US$501 or (Indian rupees $25,000)
 *

 *
Platinum, Gold and Silver donors in the U.S., are kindly requested to make
out the checks directly in favor of Dharma Raksana Trust and mail it to the
following address:**

C/o

V Srinivasan
3614 Columbia Boulevard
Garland, Texas 75043-2246
U.S.A.

Those in India can make out the checks directly to Dharma Rakshna Trust and
mail them to the address given on Letterhead of the Trust (below).

In addition,we ask each recipient of this email in turn to send this email
Appeal to at least 3~4 of their friends and/or family members, so we can
reach our targeted goal of $100,000-$125,000 in our fund raising effort.
All of us, we all do not get an opportunity to go to Kanchi Periyava and
offer our Gududakshna personally and seek Their blessings, even if we
visited India many times ~ this may be that opportunity for us all to offer
that Gurudakshana to Kanchi Periyavas and seek their Blessings.* *

Thank you, in advance, sincerely for your generous support to this noble and
great cause.

Respectfully submitted,
Kanch Kamakoti Periyavas blessings
will usher in a wedding celebration in your Family soon.

fathers day in chicago

2011-06-19 Thread Srinivasan MS
*on this fathers day enjoy a trip to Chicago

*
 **
*

 Chicago, Illinois, USA •

**

One of the most famous world's cities - Chicago - got its name from the
Indian word «shikaakwa» which later was changed by French settlers and means
Wild Lily. The city is like a beautiful flower indeed, though its actual
view has being formed during little more than last century.

Chicago is a city with its soul and personality. Here anyone can admire
simultaneously three epochs of world architecture. This is a very unusual
fact for such a young country like the USA. We can be grateful for this to
the fire of 1871, which almost completely wiped Chicago off the face of the
earth.

It's already impossible to find out the reasons of the fire now. The
versions were quite different: beginning with a cow that overturned a
kerosene lamp and ending with a comet. Anyway, the fire was raging for three
October days. Having burnt the South-West, it overstepped the Southern
branch of the River Chicago and step by step continued wiping the whole
38-year city history off the face of the earth.

But after that Chicago was built practically from the zero and this
allowed implement all the boldest architectural experiments of that time. By
the way, the first skyscrapers in the USA appeared exactly in this city: the
ground there was very expensive and the city had no other choice than to
grow up.

Nowadays, 10 from 50 highest buildings of the world are in Chicago. And
from 10 highest buildings of the USA 5 is located in Chicago. Among them
there is the 442-meter Willis (Sears) Tower, the highest building of
Northern America. Truly speaking, this record can be broken soon, but
speaking about Chicago again, the next skyscraper is being built here - the
609-meter Chicago Spire. The construction works were delayed due to the
financial crisis, but if they are finally finished, there will be the second
highest building of the world in Chicago.

Along with this, you shouldn't suppose that Chicago is just a city of
austere skyscrapers with the tiny people-bugs. The main part of it consists
of 2-3-floor houses including those of a completely classic style with their
propylaea, porticos and arcades. There are beaches and parks in Chicago
including famous Grant Park and Millennium Park. The city sculptures are
also represented in all the genres of this art: from classics to high-tech.

And except of achievements in the sphere of town building Chicago has
another thing to be proud of. Walt Disney, Michel Obama, Hillary Clinton,
Ekaterina Yushenko, Ernest Hemmingway, Anastasia and many others are in the
number of its famous natives. The classic of American literature Theodor
Dreiser called Chicago Florence of Western States and Literary capital of
America. And now it is a recognized theatre capital of the country.

If anyone walks the seafront or takes a bird's eye view, it seems that
Chicago is on the sea or ocean shore: till the very end of the horizon,
anywhere to look at, there is a water surface. However, it isn't a sea, but
Michigan - one of the Great American Lakes. Michigan is a Big Lake in the
language of the Indians. Yes, indeed, it isn't small: its length is 500 km,
width is about 190 km and total area is 57 750 sq. km. It makes Michigan one
of 5 biggest lakes of the world.

And there is one more interesting fact about Chicago. The only one river
in the world flows to the reverse side. It is the same named River Chicago.
Its course was changed by 180 grades in 1900. The reason is an ordinary
problem of everyday life: in the end of XVIII century, when the city grew,
the troubles with sewerage appeared. The city poured out sewage into
Michigan Lake that, in its turn, resulted in the lack of pure water. The
problem was solved only with cardinal river course changing along with the
construction of sewage treatment channel flowing to the Illinois River.

Chicago can be much spoken about but there are no words that will tell
about the charm and simultaneously greatness of this city. The city that
conquered nature and didn't quarrel with it; city that said a new word (and
not only one!) in architecture; the city of records and famous people - all
these are worth a thousand words.

 Thou art that !!!

The awakened sages call a person wise when all his undertakings are free
from anxiety about results; all his selfish desires have been consumed in
the fire of knowledge. The wise, ever satisfied, have abandoned all external
supports. Their security is unaffected by the results of their action; even
while acting, they really do nothing at all. Free from expectations and from
all sense of possession, with mind and body firmly controlled by the Self,
they do not incur sin by the performance of physical action.

Have faith in Hanuman, chant this Sloka and seek his 'help' when you search
for something;

especially if it is rightfully yours, you will find it.

This is a Slokam in Sundarakanda, of Srimat Ramayanam by Sri Valmiki

After this Sloka, Hanuman sets into Ashoka vana to search for Sita.

The Sadguru is the Universal Guru. He deals with each person at his level of
consciousness. He tries to destroy their ego through his superior power in
order to evolve that person. Sadguru removes all such limitations of mind
and body that are not conducive to the evolution of a soul slowly. What
methods in the gross, subtle or mental level the Sadguru may use can never
be predicted by anyone.

What could be more empowering, in terms of self-help, than to turn your
thoughts towards someone else's troubles?

Instead of trying to help yourself, then, you try to help others. And in
doing so - when you stop continually thinking of yourself, and all your woes
- you not only help others, empower them, you also help and empower yourself
too.

That's what I believe, anyway. And the following free inspirational quotes
seem to be back me up.

*This dance recital is an attempt to define and present the journey of
motherhood through the vibrant traditional grammar of Bharatanatyam. The
journey of motherhood, for a woman, is an important milestone in her life
and a successful culmination provides her with unparalleled delight and
feeling of accomplishment.

A woman however undergoes many changes both physically and emotionally
during this journey. There are moments of agony, sorrow, self doubt and
sometimes these conflicting emotions give rise to a feeling of guilt. The
excitement about the future is mixed with anxiety of what it holds.

For Anuradha motherhood has been an enriching creative experience. This
production is her interpretation, via the medium of Bharatanatyam, of these
emotions. This production traces the journey from the concept of
procreation. It explores the psyche of a mother through various historical
and mythological characters. Eclectic sources from the Atharva-Veda to the
contemporary works of Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Rabindranath Tagore are used
as the narrative backbone.*

*Meditation *

If stress has you anxious, tense and worried, consider trying meditation.
Spending even a few minutes in meditation can restore your calm and inner
peace.

Anyone can practice meditation. It's simple and inexpensive, and it doesn't
require any special equipment. And you can practice meditation wherever you
are — whether you're out for a walk, riding the bus, waiting at the doctor's
office or even in the middle of a difficult business meeting.

Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that benefits
both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits
don't end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you
more calmly through your day and can even improve certain medical
conditions.

Be Still and Be My Friend - by God!

*Be Still and Be My **Friend - by God!**
by Michael Levy***

*
*

* *

*The old saying, a friend in need is a friend indeed, may still hold true
for a few, but anyone who speaks authentic truths has become a little
redundant in today's world and they are avoided like the plague.***

*People have grown far more intellectually fickle and if their simple-minded
friend does not conform to their standard lifestyle or way of thinking, the
friend become a fiendish irritation.***

*In my role as God almighty on earth I am everyone's friend but most people
no longer recognize me as their friend, so I guess I am not so mighty? ...
Well, maybe that is because it is not my intent to make anyone do what they
do not want to do.***

*From my experience I can honestly say as an omnipresent God that I have
never lost a friend, however, many friends have lost my company ... More so
in recent years, as I talk more freely about the genuine way to live life on
earth, to a more unapproachable, modern sculptured human world, heading
towards polluted or nuclear extinction. I find it bizarre that I hear many
people say they want peace yet they continue to wage war to find it, rather
than finding me?***

*I understand many of my friends have their quirks and idiosyncrasies and I
have learnt to play along with their perspectives whilst speaking my
universal, indisputable truth.***

*Unfortunately, because of their religious beliefs, superior education,
scientific knowledge or social standing, they feel my simplicity is not to
their liking and can no longer associate themselves with me as their God.
... I am the first to admit I am simple in the eyes of sophisticated people
who consider themselves to be clever in some way or other... That is why
they have vanquished themselves from my paradise.***

*Maybe they believe their religious doctrine is sacrosanct and no other
viewpoint can be tolerated? Maybe they believe their social embellishes are
paramount and anyone who cannot conform will not be stomached? Maybe they
believe science and technology can replace me?***

*Whatever the reason, I have found simple - minded, centered living cannot
be tolerated by people with dogmatic, one sided viewpoints in politics and
world events that contain an authoritarian left or right slant.***

*Thankfully, I still have a few good friends who listen in silence to me and
do not live in shallow minds. All my friends beam my smile at birth,
however, only a few carry it with them throughout their lives.***

*On the surface many people seem like they are not bothered by a different
viewpoint. They will tolerate different opinions, however when the aspects
of dialogue contain authentic universal truths, intellectual/egotistical
people will run miles away and keep their minds detached from my love and
joy.***

*It seems if I, the only authentic God in the universe cannot fit in with a
social tribal mentality, then I will be condemned to isolation by that group
and replaced with a man-made ideology. Funny thing is some of the religious
groups are theoretically textbook spiritual, however, I find their theology
cannot be lived in a joy-filled mind... As if their doctrine and dogma can
replace my love and joy?***

*Others are motivational life coaches, professors, or other professional
experts who want to train their pupils to become catch-phrase-parrots so
that they can find their pot of gold... As if money and possessions can
replace me?***

*Some are psychologists or medical groups who want to put Band-Aids on
symptoms rather than curing the causes. .. As if humans can repair a body
and mind better than I can?***

*Yes in-deed, if I do not conform to peoples be-lie-fs they will abstain
from listening to my happy, silent communication. I cannot be accepted in
any circle of society that wants it to be their way or the highway. In every
case, my high-way seems to make sense to me, alas, but not to them.***

*The laughable thing is I have never fallen out with anyone in my life and
only desire the best of everything for everybody. Everyone I have known for
the past few million years are all now my eternal friends and are no longer
distant. I can only send sacred blessings in the direction of all my friends
on earth right now who try to keep me far out of their conscious minds.***

*The same holds true especially for all my friends in the mainstream media
who continue to ignore my voice and yet do make small changes in many subtle
ways to their publication or TV/radio show. Which tells me they may not want
to attest to my voice but they do eventually subscribe to a little of it at
a time.***

*Of course, the real reason for their small changes will never be known
until the changes become paramount?***

*Until that day arrives, I will continue to be the friend who is kept at a
distance ... Nevertheless, I will continue to send everyone love and joy

Summum bonum

2011-04-19 Thread Srinivasan MS
*Summum bonum (Latin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin for the highest
good) is an expression used in
philosophyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy,
particularly in medieval
philosophyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_philosophyand in the
philosophy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kantianism Immanuel
Kanthttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immanuel_Kant,
to describe the ultimate
importancehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_importance,
the singular and most ultimate end which human beings ought to pursue.
The summum
bonum is generally thought of as being an end in itself, and at the same
time containing all other goods. In
Christianhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianityphilosophy, the
highest good is usually defined as the life of the
righteous, the life led in
Communionhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communion_%28Christian%29with
God http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God and according to God's precepts.*

*The concept, as well as the philosophical and
theologicalhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theologyconsequences drawn
from the purported existence of a more or less clearly
defined summum bonum, could be traced back to the earliest forms of
monotheism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monotheism: for instance,
Zoroastrianism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoroastrianism and
Judaismhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judaism
[citation needed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed].
In the Western world, the concept was introduced by the
neoplatonichttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoplatonismphilosophers
[citation needed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed],
and described as a feature of the Christian God by Saint
Augustinehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustine_of_Hippoin De
natura boni (On the Nature of Good, written circa
399http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/399).
Augustine denies the positive existence of absolute
evilhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil,
describing a world with God http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God as the
supreme good at the center, and defining different grades of evil as
different stages of remoteness from that center[citation
neededhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed
].*
* Experience soon teaches that all desires cannot be satisfied, that they
are conflicting, and that some goods must be foregone in order to secure
others. Hence the necessity of weighing the relative value of goods, of
classifying them, and of ascertaining which of them must be procured at the
loss of others. The result is the division of goods into two great classes,
the physical and the moral, happiness and virtue[citation
neededhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed
]. Within either class it is comparatively easy to determine the relation of
particular good things to one another, but it has proved far more difficult
to fix the relative excellence of the two classes of virtue and
happiness[citation
needed http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed

 * *The Cosmology Hymn in the Rigveda*

 *From: Shikaripura Harihareswara
 **The Hymn:*

*At first was neither Being nor Nonbeing.
There was not air nor yet sky beyond.
What was wrapping? Where? In whose protection?
 Was Water there, unfathomable deep?*

 *There was no death then, nor yet deathlessness;
of night or day there was not any sign.
The One breathed without breath by its own impulse.
Other than that was nothing at all.*

*Darkness was there, all wrapped around by darkness,
and all was Water indiscriminate, Then
that which was hidden by Void, that One, emerging,
stirring, through power of Ardor, came to be.*

 *In the beginning Love arose,
which was primal germ cell of mind.
The Seers, searching in their hearts with wisdom,
discovered the connection of Being in Nonbeing.*

*A crosswise line cut Being from Nonbeing.
What was described above it, what below?
Bearers of seed there were and mighty forces,
thrust from below and forward move above.*

*Who really knows? Who can presume to tell it?
Whence was it born? Whence issued this creation?
Even the Gods came after its emergence.
Then who can tell from whence it came to be?*

*That out of which creation has arisen,
whether it held it firm or it did not,
He who surveys it in the highest heaven,
He surely knows - or maybe He does not!*

snake’s brother anyway! the man screamed “…and you are going to die now!
He lifted up the stone. In that instant, the snake struck out like lightning
and bit the man in the neck. He immediately fell to the ground and as he lay
there dying, he heard the snake say: “If you had listened to me, brother,
and hadn’t wanted to kill me, this wouldn’t have happened and you might have
had a long life. Then the snake rolled back into the sun and slept on this
wonderfully peaceful day in the woods.*

*Moral: As long as you do not poke even the snake will not attack. *

Reality in life -2

2011-04-18 Thread Srinivasan MS
*reality in life 2*

The art of living does not consist in preserving and clinging to a
particular mode of happiness, but in allowing happiness to change its form
without being disappointed by the change; happiness, like a child, must be
allowed to grow up. ~Charles L. Morgan
