The 100th post probably triggered it. Or maybe Sergey and Brin have had it and want to take this to the printers now! Like I do. It's ready for print. @native English speakers: I reasoned it should say your personal wiki - a single html file not just your personal wiki - single html file (the difference is the a before single) sensing this would keep both lines in a more similar grammatical form. Desktop can also mean the Windows (and iOS?) background area, particularly now with Win8 where it is something you must know about to switch to/from. Re: [tw] Re: TW Community Search
Hi Mat, Your suggestions are certainly interesting, but far beyond my pay grade I'm afraid! For example, the iframe trick with JavaScript is beyond my level of expertise, to give you an idea. I can see how my community search wiki can give the illusion of some form of dynamic sharing of tiddlers between different wikis, but it's actually not the case I'm afraid: behind it there is a program (not a TW program, an independent script) which applies a very crude treatment to the wikis; it is just a standard text file manipulation process, using the TW node.js version precisely because tiddlers are simple text files in this version. This means that it is not dynamic, because there is an intermediate worker which does all the menial work between the source wikis and the aggregator wiki. I don't know whether the kind of dynamic sharing that you envision is technically possible with TW, Jeremy or the other developers are certainly more in a position to answer than I am. About the blacklist/whitelist marking at the level of tiddlers: it was also my first idea, but I think doing it as a a list in a special tiddler gives more freedom to the author: this way instead of having to mark each tiddler with a specific tag or field, they can use their own filter; for instance if you already have some categories IdeasForTW, TipsForTW, MyGroceryList and MySecretDiary, you can do a whitelist filter [tag[IdeasForTW]] [tag[IdeasForTW]] or a blacklist filter [tag[MyGroceryList]] [tag[MySecretDiary]]. As Jed suggests, you could have some script to give *[all[]]* tiddlers in your target wiki a tag of *target*. Then, you would either export all those into your other wiki or vice versa, depending on which one you want to overwrite which. [tw] Re: Importing Wikipedia Dumps
I agree with Tobias on why repeat the repeating if something exists already and can work. I can also say that on more than one occasion when asked why did you do that? My response has been 'because I can.' I have worked with HTML TW5 dealing with larger data sets and have not enjoyed it. So from personal experience I would avoid it. Although I am about to explore using node.js and seeing how I can break my browser. You see TW is broken if you get a red box of death or some other error with the code. When you put a 55mb PDF in a single Tiddler and view it and the browser chokes, that's the browser. With all of that said, I can honestly say, I would like to use TiddlyMap(? - New TaskGraph name) with the Wikipedia to visually navigate the data in a different way. See relationships that I may have missed when they were words. Also it would be interesting to link my current data set into the Wikipedia data sets. Obviously you have an area of interest that may say something like this on Wikipedia *TiddlyWiki* is an open-source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_source single page application http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single_page_application wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki. A single HTML http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML file contains CSS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascading_Style_Sheets, JavaScript http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript, and the content. The content is divided into a series of components, or *Tiddlers*. A user is encouraged to read a TiddlyWiki by following links rather than sequentially scrolling down the page. and you want to say more but still link into what may already exist. Hey that just struck a cord. Why don't we re-write what we think TiddlyWiki is and then press go on having it at Wikipedia(until someone changes it). I read the description above from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiddlyWiki that I posted above and said 'true but lacking'. 1. I want to link a binary file( like pdf, exe files), not just a image. Added a pdf. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2040050/tw5/2015-01-08.image.folder.html TiddlyWiki won't have you run an exe. Your browser won't have you do it, obviously. 2. I think the root cause should be that whether the tiddlywiki server can serve files from local disk. Of course, that *node.js* server can. Ok, let me rephrase that: Are you trying to generate a static site? Also, try [ext[./a.pdf]]for files in the same directory. Otherwise, use subdirectories, which sounds advisable anyway. I have not had a chance to put the details out about Hangout #76 yet. Check out the new YouTube Annotation Page http://www.richshumaker.com/tw5/TiddlyWiki-Hangouts.html#YouTube%20Video%20Annotations created by Jed Carty using Astrid's Hangout Macros http://www.richshumaker.com/tw5/TiddlyWiki-Hangouts.html#Macros%20for%20Hangout%20Wiki%20Project . Thanks Astrid and Jed for all your help. This framework allows for some really amazing stuff to be done. I would love for everyone to check it out and try it. If you want to use the tool to help 'Tiddlerize' a hangout please do and let me know where your page is at and which tiddlers to grab. Or if you do this locally on your computer just let me know by email so I can add what you did to the system. [tw] Re: Importing Wikipedia Dumps
The first response that pops off my synapses reading such a proposal is: *Why?* and again: *Why?* Hi Tobias, My goal is to package information to be accessible completely offline (in an environment where there is no possibility of an internet connection). I would like to curate a collection which is suitable for a target audience of young children and am also interested in taking foreign language materials and using them as a a starting-point for a personal learning wiki. The fact that TW is 'stand-alone' is only one of the great things about it. The thing I like the most is that it's so easy to (re-)compose content (and also build custom UI) , which is why I find it interesting to use it as a container for largish data-sets. One possibility, I guess, would be to adapt the idea of TiddlyClip so that it can be given a list of pages and then fetch the content for all of them in a systematic manner. [tw] Re: Sharing word and PDF documents through Tiddlywiki
The wiki I use for most things is hosted on dropbox, with most of the pdfs and images used in it linked from a folder called 'images' and a folder called `pdf` in the same dropbox folder as my wiki so I can display them in the wiki and not have to import them. That works well for me. I do have a wiki in a shared dropbox folder that multiple people use. It works very well for us. The problem here is that there isn't any multi-user control on the wikis yet, so if two people are editing at the same time anything the first person saves will be over written when the second person saves. This doesn't mean you can't do it, just make lots of backups. I am not sure if either of those cover your situation exactly, so if you have further questions please ask. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. Re: [tw] Re: TW proselytism
Hi Eric, Regardless of what you feel copyright is (or should be)... there are specific long-established laws... and you mostly have it backwards. It is NOT neccesary for an creator to explicitly declare copyright. Copyright exists from the moment the materials are *created*. Those materials belong to the author, and they have FULL RIGHTS to control what is done with it. Of course, copyright laws DO vary from country to country... That sounds fine with me and it essentially means that there's even less of a reason to declare a copyright statement or define licensing conditions... since, if things should ever get rough, there is that implicit right you say one can refer to... albeit with an obligation of proof on either side, I presume. [tw] Re: [TW5] sorting the tags field on tiddlers
I am a bit confused. The first time I tried it I had the same trouble you are having, so I came up with this workaround: It looks like adding tags is special and changing the tags field to the same set of tags in a different order doesn't change anything. This is probably to let the add tags functions work properly when you try to add a tag that already exists. Either way, you can sort the tags like this: $set name=sorted filter=[is[current]tags[]sort[]] $buttonSort Tags $action-setfield $field='sorted_tags' $value=sorted/ $action-setfield $field='tags' $value={{!!sorted_tags}}/ /$button /$set But then I tried again using your method and this worked. I don't know why, it may be something in the difference between how the set and setTo part of a button works and how the action-setfield widget works. $set name=sorted filter=[is[current]tags[]sort[]] $buttonSort Tags $action-setfield $field='tags' $value=sorted/ /$button /$set Both of them are shown here: http://inmysocks.tiddlyspot.com/#Tags%20Sort%20Test -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. [tw] [TW5] sorting the tags field on tiddlers
I'm trying to sort some tiddlers based on their tags, without having to do a nested list. The problem I've encountered is that the tags in the tags field are not sorted by title, so if I apply them in the wrong order, I get the wrong order in the list. What I started trying to do is to create a tool that sorts the tags, then reapplies them to the tags field, but I just can't get it to work. I can't get the set widget to actually use the filter [is[current]tags[]sort[]]. Here's the basic part that I can't get to work $set name=sorted filter=[is[current]tags[]sort[]] sorted /$set here's the whole thing. $list filter=[tag[Characters]] div $set name=sorted filter=[is[current]tags[]sort[]] sorted $button set=!!tags setTo=sorted $view field=title/ /$button /$set /div /$list All I get out the other side of the list is a bunch of buttons that clear the tags field on the appropriate tiddler when clicked. Tablet, yes. I could go with either when it comes to writing desktop vs laptop but my reasoning for using laptop is that people identify more with laptops these days and the word desktop has almost reverted back into meaning table desktop, at least in my mind. The real actual word is otherwise desktop computer, whereas laptop is unambiguous. Desktop can also mean the Windows (and iOS?) background area, particularly now with Win8 where it is something you must know about to switch to/from. But if you prefer desktop, I could go with that. @native English speakers: I reasoned it should say your personal wiki - a single html file not just your personal wiki - single html file (the difference is the a before single) sensing this would keep both lines in a more similar grammatical form. Yes/No? But I notice the gradient has shifted a bit so that it is no longer centered under the fish, causing a misaligned visible shadow. Could it be realigned without moving any other suff - other than possibly also letting headline follow it down those few millimeters.) Other than this, I think the one with the blue line (which *should* take attention) is pretty much perfect. :-) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups TiddlyWiki group. A very crude way would be to take an empty wiki, get the output of $set name=allTiddlers filter='[all[]]'allTiddlers/$set and then use a text editor that lets you spilt the line on ever space and add a -[[ prefix and ]] suffix then rejoin the lines, then use this (with your big list of tiddlers from the text editor substituted in for allTiddlers: $list filter='[all[]]-allTiddlers' /$list or if you wanted to include shadow and system and plugin tiddlers you would use $set name=allTiddlers filter='[all[]][is[shadow]][is[system]][plugintiddlers[]]'allTiddlers/$set and $list filter='[all[]][is[shadow]][is[system]][plugintiddlers[]]-allTiddlers' /$list This probably isn't actually useful anywhere, but if you really wanted to know you could use this. Thanks Jed for your help. I will check out what you did. Tobias, It is 2 parts actually 1. Compare the two files for differences on a Tiddler level, 2 Tiddlers could be different even if they have the same name. 1a. Not sure if you can do anything about the Same Name Different Tiddler Issue although the upgrader does know the differences. 2. Package the Differences into a file 2a, Package select differences into a file by file type or something like that. The upgrade tool does a comparison on your existing file and what needs to be upgraded that is what made me think of this. Hi Faith, Sometimes in cases like this I create a tiddler First Tiddler with content {{The First Tiddler}}, so that the latter is basically a symbolic link to the former. Re: [tw] [TW5] Using the nameplate/TWcards idea to maintain a community plugin database
Hi Jed, Nice idea. It is possible to automatize the updates using an external script, like I did with the community search. This way authors don't have to alert the list maintainer every time. Regards Erwan On 07/01/15 05:11, Jed Carty wrote: After some of the conversations during the hangout earlier today about the federation ideas and passing information between tiddlers I wanted to try putting together a mostly simple way to create some sort of centralize listing of community plugins that wouldn't be impossible to maintain. The idea discussed in the hangout (in the chat window, so I don't know if it can be seen in the video) was to have each plugin author make a tiddler that holds a standard set of information, then the author alerts the list maintainer that there has been an update and the list maintainer imports the tiddler with the information into the list/directory wiki. This list could be updated faster than the main tiddlywiki site, and wouldn't necessarily only list finished plugins so that people who are interested in what is being developed have a central place to look. There is of course github, but form what I have heard on this list and during the hangouts many people aren't going to go search github to find out what is new. I have made a quick example of what I am thinking of. The card tiddlers are listed here http://inmysocks.tiddlyspot.com/#Plugin%20TWcard Some of the relevant information from each card is displayed with a simple display template here http://inmysocks.tiddlyspot.com/#TWcard%20Listing%20-%20Plugins so that any cards imported into the wiki are automatically added to the list And here is a form that can be filled out to generate the cards quickly and easily http://inmysocks.tiddlyspot.com/#Make%20Plugin%20TWcard The display template and information on the cards can be changed of course, please give me feedback on what should be included, or any display templates people think would be useful. I am envisioning multiple lists generated for different types of plugins, so multiple display templates would be needed. The form to create the cards is self contained and doesn't use anything but the core wiki, so a developer could import that single tiddler into their wiki to make the cards. I am trying to make it as close to automated as possible to encourage people to use it, and hopefully if people like the idea and this works than we could do a similar thing for the swarms/shoals/schools/whatever of tiddlers that would import a set of non-plugin tiddlers into a wiki, or a listing of public wikis that aren't necessarily the sort of reference/help wikis listed on the main site to show off what is possible. I would volunteer to maintain the plugins list at least, if people like the idea enough to use it. Any thoughts? Criticisms? Just as there is an upgrade tool on TiddlyWiki.com it would be cool to have a 'compare to base TW5' tool as well.
