[tw5] Re: $linkcatcher widget, need an example

2020-02-20 Thread Mohammad
I found the solution

It seems the $linkcatcher catch the link action so, if one needs to
navigate shall pass a message to $linkcatcher
The logic is a bit confusing

Example

   - link and navigate to clicked title
   - capture the title of clicked item and store in my tiddler given
   through a variable

<$linkcatcher set=<> setTo=<<__item__>> message="tm-navigate">
<$link to=<<__item__>> overrideClass=<> >
  <$view tiddler=<<__item__>> field="caption">
<$view tiddler=<<__item__>> field="title">

Remarks

   - a link to item is created (item holds a title is given through macro
   input parameter
   - a proper form of caption/title is shown using $view widget
   - on click linkcatcher use the tm-navigate to navigate to tiddler its
   title is given by item
   - the title of clicked item is stored in a temporary tiddler
(tidSelectedItem holds the title of temporary tiddler)

[tw5] $linkcatcher widget, need an example

2020-02-20 Thread Mohammad
I am using $link to create some links using $list widget!

I want to save the title of clicked item in a temporary tiddler for further
processing. We know the $link widget does not supports actions

How can I do this?

<$link to=<>><$text text=<>/>
<$linkcatcher actions="""<$action-setfield $tiddler=<>
text=<> />""" />

here the tidSelectedItem is a variable refers to my temporary tiddler to
keep the title of clicked item

Good move Joshua!
Thank you for sharing!

I think the interface still can be polished, specifically the left/right
next/previous buttons on the header section.
More simple examples lets user get a quick start with JsonMangler.

I like both idea with three! triad tetra, ...

As Josiah also described above TW is not a dedicated note taking tool nor a
website or personal wiki generator!
so, these suggestion which refer to multi aspects of TW is great!

W can refer to Web, as the app is kind of web program (works in browsers)
or world (the world of paperless, the digital age), ...

[tw5] Re: Create Non-Existing Tiddler from Search

2020-02-20 Thread 'LorenzGL' via TiddlyWiki
Birthe, this was exactly the plugin I meant. Thanks!

I also found an alternative approach based on @TonyM's suggestion and that
is to customize the search results
(https://tiddlywiki.com/#Customising%20search%20results) to also include a
link to the literal search term, which can then be clicked to trigger the
"create missing tiddler" behavior.

[tw5] Re: Create Non-Existing Tiddler from Search

2020-02-20 Thread TonyM
Existing manual method;

   - If you search for a non existent tiddler, eg tetrahedron
   - Click Advanced search > Filter
   - It will be listed below as missing and you can click to create it.

I am looking at enhancing the search mechanism with me own plugin, I will
consider adding this;

As a quick solution the attached json (single tiddler) displays a link to
the missing tiddler below the advanced search (only after clicking advanced
search) such that you can click to create. However you could modify the
tiddler Open Missing to create new from a template and more.

Tony

Yes, It operates separately from the browsers
however https://www.file.net/process/mshta.exe.html suggests It is usually
installed with Internet Explorer and is executed by the mshta.exe file
however I would not be surprised if it is in Windows 10 natively.

It is not in itself risky however some malware has used it (modified copy).

I guess I'm wondering which version they currently ship with. That

On my Win 10 box running the new Chromium Edge I just download empty.html,
renamed it empty.hta and it opens under something called "Microsoft HTML
Application Host". Saves seem to work. The icon on the file looks like a
generic application icon and not a web page icon.

I dragged in a tiddlywiki.html file I use all the time and it imported. I
get javascript errors when I refresh or load but I think that is due to the
animated "loading" splash screen I have in the file.

This was a 5-minute test so your mileage may vary.

[tw5] Create Non-Existing Tiddler from Search

2020-02-20 Thread 'LorenzGL' via TiddlyWiki
I've seen this feature around but am now unable to find the plugin(?)

then take the title from the search word(s).

Anyone out there who knows what I'm looking for?

Grigor,

Triad is closely associated with triad gangs in asia, basically the asian
mafia.

However your idea is compelling with another form of "three", I am looking
at tetra from the tetrahedra, the regular version being a triangular
pyramid (regular tetrahedron)

The nice thing about a triangular pyramid is also has a base/foundation Ie
Based on Internet standard technologies html/css/javascript
then has three faces application, website and database?

How to connect this with W, well that's another project

[tw5] Re: Tiddlywiki as an Application

2020-02-20 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
There are two versions of Edge. I believe the "new" and future version of
Edge is the Chromium version which, per PMario, may not work with .hta
files. (or may work if a lot of extra support files are installed).

It's possible to install both versions of Edge, so if you're interested you
might install the new Chromium version to see if .hta still works.

[tw5] Re: How to display yesterday's date? (And n days ago etc.)

2020-02-20 Thread TonyM
SI,

I am having a look a loop, and it may be of some value. I have a
sophisticated bespoke todo organizer in tiddlywiki and have dates covered,
so if you have any more specific questions I can answer.

To meet your original request you need to use the days operator with [-7]
against the modified or created dates.

I made a great discovery that almost no one seems to understand but on a
given task/habit tiddler I only ever apply a date stamp ie; now, when I do
something and it is the list widget that determines if they should appear
in a list either for the past or the future. So if the monday tiddler was
last date stamped more than -7 days it appears for this monday.

The picaday plugin is important, and sophisticated date calculations are
available in Evans Formulae plugin however I can do all I want without it.

Regards
Tony

[tw5] Exporting several tiddlers to a JSON file using --rendertiddler - looking for more documentation

2020-02-20 Thread Cade Roux
I'm looking for any more examples or exposition of the --render,
--rendertiddler, and --rendertiddlers commands.

What I am doing is exporting a set of tiddlers from a tiddlywiki into a
single JSON file to be processed by a program/script.

This is my current command in PowerShell with appropriate escaping and it
works fine:

& tiddlywiki --% TestsVerified --verbose --rendertiddler
"$:/core/templates/exporters/JsonFile" TestsVerified.json text/plain ""
exportFilter "[regexp:title[^(XmlOutput|TestVerified):.*]]"

But I don't understand which parameter that "" is supposed to be a
placeholder for:

--rendertiddler [] [] [] []

is what the documentation has with the example:

--rendertiddler "$:/core/templates/exporters/JsonFile" output.json text/plain
"" exportFilter "[tag[done]]"

and the documentation also says that --render can replace the other two
commands, but I'm not sure what would be equivalent.

Any pointers to more docs on this would be appreciated.

[tw5] Re: Tiddlywiki as an Application

2020-02-20 Thread TonyM
Folks,

On my windows 10 I load a hta at startup, and it continues to work. I have
Windows Explorer 11 installed but providing the hta file to edge it opens
and continues to work. However they make it hard for me to determine the
version of edge running. So I am now installing the "latest".

On opening hta files with the new version of edge and IE11 installed I see
it opens on its own process mshta.exe (dated ‎Tuesday, ‎19 ‎March ‎2019,
‏‎3:46:01 PM) so I believe it is somewhat independent from the local
browser choice.

I recently saw (perhaps from Eric) this simple html download (Which
downloads the wiki as found as a file on your server, without any changed
tiddlers)

download this file to a windows
However it is not working in firefox when I just tested it now

I am working on a download button as we speak

Regards

Tony

Oh man THANK YOU! Out of all the digging I didn't spot anything that looked
like this. Works great. However, now I need to make the foreground work in
contrast to that. I know there's a way to do it as I've seen it in
TiddlyWiki here and there. It seems to be aware when the background is too
dark to create white text versus dark text.

What magic is that?

[tw5] Creating a new template failing at inline styles

Hey all, I'm trying to write a template. It works as a template in that it
renders the currentTiddler, but if I try to use the color from the tiddler

For example
\whitespace trim

doesn't work. Neither did style="background-color:{{!!color}}" and it

The native TiddlyWiki toolkit is rather sparse when it comes to dates. But
you could use Jed Carty's date macros:

https://ooktech.com/jed/ExampleWikis/DateMacros/

which I found using the TiddlyWiki Toolmap

Those are javascript-based macros. I have some pure tiddly text macros I
wrote with help from Mat or someone very much like him that I could repost
if you're a "purist".

[tw5] Re: Tiddlywiki as an Application

2020-02-20 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
The topic of saving has been discussed endlessly here. Unfortunately, all
easy solutions depend on the user's platform and software.

The universal solution is to configure the browser. Oh come on, users can
handle that, can't they?

Nearly universal solution: Put the TW file on tiddlyspace and give the user
the password. Downside: The file is publicly viewable.

For windows, there are at least two solutions that come close to
requirements:

On Windows, there is a way to wrap a TW file in it's own executable
wrapper. See https://ihm4u.github.io/twexe. This comes closest to the
"dream" solution. But some people warn that this approach may be dangerous.
Hey, but YOLO, right? Also leaves a command box open, which user must be
smart enough not to close.

On Windows, you can change the extension of your tw file to .hta and then
open/save in Internet Explorer. Unsure if it works in either version of MS
Edge. Maybe someone running Windows 10 could test that for you.

Certainly TiddlyDesktop could do that on Windows very well. But it would
need some changes. At the moment you can't distribute it wrapped with wiki
reliably.
This is because the internal pathing to Wiki files is absolute pathing, not
relative. If that one issue could be solved then TiddlyDesktop could be a
simple install like a normal app and work well.

FYI I wanted to wrap all Dickens' novels into a TD install. One wiki per
novel with ability for the user to annotate paragraphs. But I'd need to
reliably wrap the novels so that on install TD can find the files. At
moment can't work. But an example of something very close to your OP I
think.

Best wishes
TT

[tw5] Tiddlywiki as an Application

2020-02-20 Thread Dave
I'm thinking of making a TW that summarizes a course I recently took and
could potentially act as a clinical guide to practitioners as they practice
/ work.

If I view it as a complete entity with no more editing to be done I could
just distribute the TW file and be done with it.

If however I intend for the user to modify their file and save changes that
adds complexity to the user experience with the user suddenly having to
either figure
out how to modify their browser to save changes or at least know to go to
the downloads folder to use the most recently saved version.

Is there currently any way to make a TW that can be given to a complete
novice that allows them to make changes and not have to step out of the "TW
experience"
any further than just double-clicking the file to open it up again? I
would imagine maybe a way to bundle a tiddlywikidesktop instance with it as
"the program that runs TW",
but I don't know how easy that would be on Mac or Windows (as I'm on Linux
and the install is more complicated than just "open this file with this
program")

Thanks,

- Dave

Re: [tw5] TiddlyWiki on HackADay.com

2020-02-20 Thread Grigor
Thinking of a possible new name, I'd chime in with:

*TriadWare Framework*

(TWF.X-1.0.1-alpha TWF.X-3 etc.)

This is my best idea (so far)... And look... No hits! Whatsoever:
https://www.google.com/search?q="triadware;

Was thinking also of: TriadicWare tri.way TriWay TrippleWay Tripl.eWare
(quite similar to Tupperware, which I see that is often being abbreviated
as TW too :)

Back to my best idea, the triadic theme would then be developed in the
catch phrases / hooks:

Meet the TriadWare Framework : Own it like a document, use it like a
website, (and needs a 3rd to complete the triad! Like: program it to your
needs (?) etc.)

Meet TriadWare:
Single file website, database, application
Portable Programmable Platform
Smart documentation, wiki, (and so on)

Those hooks could be a triad of triads, as above, like in a game of tic tac
toe, but I might already be loosing your attention so I'll stop here...

Well, maybe just this last one (joke?):

*You'll hardly get any treadwear with TriadWare: Rolling fine, in all
browsers, since 1997!*

[tw5] Re: global Macro for new tiddler from templates

2020-02-20 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
There are at least 3 ways to make new tiddlers in TW. Of these, only the
ActionCreateWidget will automatically prevent overwriting titles. ACW
also has the advantage that it doesn't open your tiddler in edit mode.

In your original you had text="{{transclusion}}" . You can not do that. You
must use text={{transclusion}} . Otherwise, the actual text will be
"{{transclusion}}" and not the transcluded content.

In your example, <$action-sendmessage was not closed on the end with "/>".
Always do a double-check to make sure that all tags are matched by their
anti-tag
(e.g. or that a single tag is closed on the end with
"/>" .

In your original example, I did not know what $:/tags/Template did or what
it's contents were. So I removed it for my test.

This version works, though I don't know if it does exactly what you
intended:

\define testknopf(Kennzeichen Sache)
<$button>Mein Knopf
<$action-createtiddler $basetitle="$Sache$ - Jahr" tags="$Kennzeichen$
$Sache$" text={{Benzin - Jahr}} />

\end

<>

If you press the button twice, it will make a new tiddler based on the
name, but will not over write the first one.

[tw5] global Macro for new tiddler from templates

2020-02-20 Thread Gerald Weis
Hi folks,

i need help.

i want to create a new tiddler from templates.
The cocept ist, the macro shoud be global.

\define testknopf(Kennzeichen Sache)

<$button>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-new-tiddler" title="$Sache$ - Jahr"
tags=$Kennzeichen$ $Sache$ text="{{Benzin - Jahr||$:/tags/Template}}"

\end

This macro shoud do the follow things:
1. create a new tiddler
2. load the templatetiddler with Name where is compsite form "$Sache$ -
Jahr"
3. transclude the content of templatetiddler in the new tiddler
4. disable the templatetag in the new tiddler
4. close the templatetiddler

my Templatetiddler is tagged with $:/tags/Template

what ist wrong?

1 - *Not Now*: Changing name for TW5 now, in mid-version I think might have
the unintended consequence of creating confusion. Probably better to do it
with a new major shift.

2 - *Later, Yes*: Changing the name IS a good idea. On that agree with Mark
S. "Tiddly" & "Tiddler" are diminutive in a particularly negative way.
That diminution can't be offset by positive Comparisons with names of "Big
things" using "baby words" (e.g. "Google"). That isn't illuminating as
those services are So Large they came to Re-Define meaning in actual usage.
TiddlyWiki is not in a position to do that--so the name can't have the
start-push of being able to redefine words. For many reasons. So the
current name is not good.

3 - *"Wiki" Is Probably Part Of The Name Problem*: Several issues with
"wiki": (a) Messy broader negative social resonance with things like
"WikiLeaks"; (b) We are not "WikiPedia"; (c) Nor does implying TW is a
"type of wiki" going to be illuminating to most people, so I can't see the
value now in "wiki" that once more clearly existed, as much of the net has
adopted methods pioneered by various wikis & moved on; (d) TW does a lot of
things that big-name wikis have no correlate of.
In short: "wiki" may be a "false friend" that just waters down ideas of
what we have in TW.

4 - *Name Is Only Part Of The Issue*: But I also agree with Eric Shulman
that a change that is "just" a change of name won't do much---and as
several other posts in this thread have implied. The issue involves several
intersecting issues to do with: (a) base utility [saving]; (b) vagueness
about what TW is FOR beyond fiddling with it; (c) and, I think, above all,
lack of a strong dedicated *Showcase* illustrating developed applications
of it. That's the easiest way, I think, for potential users to realise what
it can do--by seeing final output wiki. Maybe that last thought is for a
separate thread.
