Re: Re: [tw5] Saving TW - see my Tiddlyspot tiddler

2020-04-19 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Birthe, I **do** do my best to sort things at my end. It may not always seem
that way, but I honestly do.
Like I said at the end of the other thread, I will post tiddlers on Tiddlyspot
from now on.
Thanks again for your help.

2020-04-19 Thread Birthe C
Peter,

That was some very good news, well done.
I think others have had problems getting rid of everything TD, we do not
need to use a MAC to get into this.
Everything is s easy (until it is not ;-)

Re: Re: [tw5] Saving TW - see my Tiddlyspot tiddler

2020-04-18 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Birthe, Mark, I downloaded a fresh, empty version of TiddlyBlink, opened it in
my browser, made an amendment, saved it.

Then I downloaded a fresh version of TD, and opened the file mentioned in the
paragraph above, amended it, tried to save it and got the red warning again!!

Something was wrong. I realised that dragging TD to the trash bin, as is the
normal way of uninstalling an app on MacOS, was not sufficient. I went to the
hidden folders (called Library) and deleted all the left-over TD stuff. And
that did the trick !! I can now use TD without any problems, and it's automatic
saving is heaven compared with the saving process in the browser.

Many thanks for your help and patience. My apologies for not checking the
hidden folder before - I've been on MacOS for a couple of months only.

Issue closed.

Mark, yes. I exported that tiddler from my TW file and imported it in
Tiddlyspot. Then from there I exported it and re-imported it into my TW file.

I do not like saving in the cloud, so of all the methods the only one
I'd consider is TiddlyDesktop. I tried it but get a JS error notice,

Re: Re: [tw5] Saving TW - see my Tiddlyspot tiddler

2020-04-18 Thread Birthe C
Mark,

I am rather sure Peter has a local file that has nothing to do with
tiddlyspot.
We have not heard anything about what is in this wiki , when the problem
started and changes that might have caused it.

@Peter
We need to know more than a screenshot you attached earlier. I am rather
sure most of us have at times seen exactly the same red warning but from
different actions. Editing something and getting it wrong perhaps?
Mark explained earlier on that you could try to disable your plugins. To
see if any of them do not work with TD. re-enable one plugin at a time to
find the guilty one, if any.

Did you wiki work well with Tiddlydesktop at anytime? Does Tiddlydesktop
work with your other wikis?

No. If you have a corrupt file, it's likely to break eventually even in
some other browser. See my other post --
I was able to save your file with TD without problems. It may that it got
fixed just by uploading to tiddlyspot.

Is there anything in particular you do that causes the error?

I downloaded the file and loaded it into TD. Made a tiddler. Saved. No
errors.

It may be just by uploading your file to tiddlyspot that you have fixed it
(I think you used Mat's interface, maybe? ).

Try downloading the file from tiddlyspot and opening it with TD.

Re: Re: [tw5] Saving TW - see my Tiddlyspot tiddler

2020-04-17 Thread 'Peter Buyze' via TiddlyWiki
Mark, I assume you are answering Mat's question.

If I understand you well, yes one can use TD for a single file wiki but there
can be hassles of the sort you describe. In my case, I have encountered a
different hassle: a JS error which blocks TD from saving a file.

My conclusion is that using TD is more of a headache than the convenience of
saving a file easily is worth. Correct?

BTW, a different subject but I could not find the page anymore: I answered to
you yesterday that it IS possible to use markdown with spaces in the title of
the tiddler one links to, you had said it isn't. Well, after upgrading to
5.1.22 today I found we're both right. You are right where 5.1.22 is concerned,
I am for 5.1.21 is concerned. After my upgrade today those links were broken in
a file. Apologies to mention it here.

2020-04-17 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
I'm not sure I see the relevance, since we're talking about local file
saving, right? But yes,
it works best with local TW files.

But, TD will also allow you to serve up data folder tiddlers. It doesn't
play as nicely -- you don't get the icon and tw title display. And, worse,
you can't close a data folder window and then open it up again. You have to
close out the entire session, including the other TW files you may have
opened. You may also need to use the task manager to kill the nw.exe
process that keeps on running. Then you relaunch TD. So ... there are some
convenience issues. But it does work.

My wiki is local, i.e. is only resides on my computer. Or is that not the
definition of local?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't TW Desktop for local wikis?

I put one of my tiddlers here http://peterjb.tiddlyspot.com/. After amending it
TWDesktop will not save it saying there is a JS error - see screenshot.

I do not like saving in the cloud, so of all the methods the only one I'd
consider is TiddlyDesktop. I tried it but get a JS error notice, as I
