Re: Tomcat as service
The service exe that ships with newer versions of TC 5 won't run on W9x (and, I'm not certain about NT4 :). However, you can still run it from the command line. Glen Stampoultzis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I was just installing tomcat this morning and I noticed that even if you uncheck the service option during the installation it still installs as a service (just doesn't start it). Embedding ${} syntax in jsp pages
Hello, I see some of the examples shipped with 5.0.25 tomcat contains ${} embedded jsp commands, as below: tr td\${1}/td td${1}/td /tr tr td\${1 + 2}/td td${1 + 2}/td /tr tr td\${1.2 + 2.3}/td td${1.2 + 2.3}/td /tr However, as I create a new tomcat application directory (Es. /myexamples) and try to use the same jsp syntax I only get symple html output, without ${} command interpretation. Does someone know the reason? Is it some directive missing in web.xml file? Re: WebSphere suuports servlets in /welcome-list does Tomcat?
Suite yourself :). The other work-around would be to put a (possibly empty) index.do file to let Tomcat know that there is something there for it to serve. R A [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:[EMAIL PROTECTED] The point of me adding servlet-mapping servlet-nameaction/servlet-name url-pattern*.do/url-pattern /servlet-mapping is that I want all request that match *.do to go through the Sruts ActionServlet. This includes any *.do in the welcome-list/. The ActionServlet delegates the request to the RequestProcessor, which uses the command pattern to map to the appropriate action. It should not be necessary to add index.do as a servlet. Bill Barker [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Tomcat 5 supports servlets as welcome-files, just not extension-mapped ones (e.g. *.do, *.jsp). The reason is that extension-mapped servlets would alway be choosen, even though in most cases the servlet couldn't handle it. Simply adding a mapping like: action /index.do solves your problem. Re: Does tomcat5 support digest authentication?
There is only very minimal support for DIGEST authentication. So minimal that in practice I can't see how it could be of any use at this point in time. Re: Embedding ${} syntax in jsp pages
Hi Ess, in order to enable interpretation JSP 2.0 EL expressions, you need to switch your webapp to JSP 2.0. This is done in web.xml by replacing the starting web-app tag by this syntax: web-app xmlns=http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee; xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:schemaLocation=http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd; version=2.4 After this, restart tomcat, then your web app should be recognized as JSP 2.0 and the command interpretation should work! regards, Thilo Hello, I see some of the examples shipped with 5.0.25 tomcat contains ${} embedded jsp commands, as below: tr td\${1}/td td${1}/td /tr tr td\${1 + 2}/td td${1 + 2}/td /tr tr td\${1.2 + 2.3}/td td${1.2 + 2.3}/td /tr However, as I create a new tomcat application directory (Es. /myexamples) and try to use the same jsp syntax I only get symple html output, without ${} command interpretation. RE: Recommended DBCP configuration parameters
IMHO this depends on quite a lot of thinks. Type of rdbms you use, complexity of your usual query and so forth. I would start with the following question though: How many queries a minute does a typical user trigger when s/he is using your app? Taking it from there, you can make some (hopefully good) guesses. Lets say you have 1 query a minute per user and expect a maximum of 7000 users at any given time. It would be devils work, if all of them trigger at exactly the same time so I would assume for now that they all log on within one minute. 7000 users divided by 60 secs would be approx. 117 concurrent (in terms of db-access) users at high time. I would therefore start with a maxActive of 150, set maxIdle to a much lower value (around 40) because you have such a hight fluctuation in user-numbers... But as has been suggested before, it basically is a try and error process ;) HTH, Jan -Original Message- From: Frank Burns [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, July 22, 2004 11:50 PM To: Tomcat Users List Subject: Recommended DBCP configuration parameters Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can find recommendations/guidelines for choosing values for the DBCP parameters -- such as maxActive, maxIdle, maxWait, etc. -- in the ResourceParams element of server.xml? For example, I am about to launch a system that has a user base of approx 7000 users, which I expect will be thrashed hard at launch time and then settle down to an average of 10 to 100 users at any given time. What values should I specify for my database pooling parameters? Beyond bassic form authentication?
So I setup my web app to use Form Authentication with a User Realm in my MySQL DB. It all works fine. I type the protected resources URL into the browser, I get redirected to the login page, I login and behold it works! ;) Now how would I give access to a secure resource from an unsecure resource. For instance... My webapp has a front page with recent news, welcome message etc... Standard home page stuff... Obviously I can put a sign-in link that will try to access the protected resource, which will then redirect to the login page... But is there a way to put a login form on the home page directly and post that form for authentication and from there give access to the protected resource? RE: Need help with Log4j and Tomcat5
This works fine for me under Tomcat, and works well for multiple applications (jars in each WEB-INF/lib, props files in each /class). However, when I try to do the same under Eclipse, I get classNotFound for log4j.jar unless I put the jars (in each WEB- INF/lib) explicitly into the Eclipse run/debug classpath, in which case it only picks up the first jar and I only get one logger. Has anybody else run into this? Anybody have any idea what to do next? It appears just like that, no timestamp or anything. We are not using mod_jk, it is not included. We've serached in Google, Google groups, and the bug database extensively but have found similar but not identical complaints, none of which are (publicly) resolved anyway. On a test server we reduced the occurence of the error by fiddling with configuration files. It seems to have eliminated the error, but does not get much traffic so it may just have been reduced. We have duplicated the settings on the production server, and we did manage to seemingly reduce the occurence of the error but did not eliminate it. It still pops up hundreds of times a day. RE: Need help with Log4j and Tomcat5
I have multiple applications, say app1 and app2. I want separate logging for each application. log4j creates a static repository associated with each classloader. They suggest having separate jars in each appx/WEB-INF/lib directory so that log4j's static classes create separate repositories because each application uses a separate classloader. This works great. However, Eclipse doesn't seem to create separate classloaders, or something, as only one of my loggers works, and then only if I explicitly put /lib/log4j.jar in the classpath. There was a thread about this on a WebSphere list that said that one had to change WS's classloader default to Parent-last but I don't know whether this applies to Eclipse. I'm hoping someone on this list has some experience with multiple applications in Tomcat, log4j and Eclipse. I've been wrestling with this for a while and can't find anyone that has been able to help. RE: Need help with Log4j and Tomcat5
Hi, Eclipse has a unified flat classloader at runtime. That means one log4j.jar. Although Eclipse offers some nice versioning and reloading features in this classloader, those don't help in your scenario. Try the eclipse user mailing lists or forums. Linux / Apache / Tomcat conf troubles
Hi everyone, I find 2 problems on my Linux/Apache/Tomcat platform : *** First, I can't manage to redirect a 500 error code page to a customized error page, even I can't see any trouble in my conf's files. # config Linux RedHat 7.1 Apache 1.3.27 (rpm) Tomcat 4.1.18 (rpm) mod_jk 1.2.2 (rpm) #apache myVH.conf ErrorDocument 500 /jsp/500.jsp #tomcat myapps/WEB-INF/web.xml error-page error-code500/error-code location/jsp/500.jsp/location /error-page apache gets a 500 error code # myapps_access_log 193.52.112.54 - - [05/Jul/2004:15:52:49 +0200] GET /Login.do HTTP/1.1 500 3990 but the browser prints the default tomcat error page and not my customized 500.jsp ... PS : there's no compilation problem in my 500.jsp, it could have been the reason why tomcat can't print it and redirects to it's own 500 error page *** Second, I have a java tomcat process recycling problem. I thought that even there are cycles in a java code, the following line in the tomcat4.conf was there to kill properly these non recycling processes : # Time to wait in seconds, before killing process SHUTDOWN_WAIT=30 But they stay with the running status and eat all the free CPU of my machine (between 90 and 100 % of cpu until the processes come in). Jrme Duval wrote: I am not sure about this, but your problem seems to be confirming this. I think the JSPs will not be compiled unless they are part of a web application, i.e. you are being asked to save it because it isn't a format your browser recognizes (its not a webpage). In the folder of your test.jsp, you have to create a WEB-INF folder and it has to contain a valid web.xml file (which can probably be empty aside from the wep-app/web-app tags). In my experience, this is not the case.
