Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Connect SBT To Oppo UDP-203 Blu-ray Player

2017-07-02 Thread GuruPete

I'm pleased to say that installing philippe_44's 3rd party plugin
"squeeze2upnp" appears to have solved my problem.

After "bumbling" my way through the settings instructions for a few
hours the Oppo now shows up as a player in both LMS and the SBT. I've
used an optical cable between the SBT and the Opp.

Last night I was able to use my Orange Squeeze smartphone app to play
music files through the Oppo's analogue settings thus taking advantage
of its AKM DAC. The embedded album art in the files also came up on my
TV screen whilst the song was playing.

Superb sound!

I don't think that the 203 model has that capability, but the 205
($1300) does
https://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-205/blu-ray-udp-205-Features.aspx
USB DAC and Coaxial/Optical Inputs
An asynchronous USB DAC input supports sample rates up to 768 kHz PCM
and DSD 512. For additional convenience and flexibility, the UDP-205 can
convert digital signals from cable and satellite boxes, televisions,
video game consoles and other digital transports with coaxial and
optical digital outputs to analog. By bypassing the low fidelity, poor
quality DAC of traditional computer soundcards, the UDP-205 turns any
computer into a high performing multi-media source by utilizing the
ES9038PRO DAC.

Thank you for your replies.

I will give the optical cable suggestion a try.

One other question - do I need to also connect a USB cable between the
SBT and the Oppo?

It would indeed be more normal for a BDR to have digital audio OUTs than
ins. I found a reference to the connection on the rear being inputs, but
if that isn't what it says in the manual then they are almost certainly
outputs.

2017-05-19 Thread Apesbrain

Looking at the manual, it's not clear to me that the Oppo can be used in
the way you want. There are no S/PDIF inputs and the USB inputs on the
front and rear panels are not the typical USB "B" type used for this
purpose. Plus, there is no description in the manual of how the device
can be used as a USB DAC for an external streamer. You might want to
ask your question to Oppo customer service and post their response back
here for others to know.

'Owner's Manual'

There are other options:

1. Assemble a Squeezelite player from a Raspberry Pi and use it to play
from LMS into the Oppo HDMI input. This can cost as low as $50 and will
support your 24-bit files; and, you can redeploy your Touch to another
room.

2. Buy a S/PDIF or USB > HDMI converter and link through it from the
Touch to the Oppo. I'm not that familiar with these devices, but no
reason it should not work.

Since when did a blu ray player have an digital INPUT?

(And, you are using the external DAC in your AVR if you use an optical
cable from.the SBT to it..)

[SlimDevices: Touch] Connect SBT To Oppo UDP-203 Blu-ray Player

2017-05-19 Thread GuruPete

Firstly, I apologize if this is a silly question, but I have never used
an external DAC before, only the SBT's built in one by plugging an
optical cable into my Denon AVR.

I've just bought an Oppo UDP-203 Blu-ray player which features a built
in 32-bit DAC from AKM, the AK4458VN, which is an 8-channel DAC with
support for formats such as 192 kHz / 32-bit PCM and multi-channel DSD.

I'm trying to find out if I can run my SBT through the Oppo to take
advantage of the AKM DAC. The majority of my music files are either
24/96 or 24/192 flacs from ripping my extensive vinyl collection.

>From the Google searching I've done so far I get the impression I can by
connecting a coax cable between the SBT and the Oppo.

However, that's all I can seem to find at the moment. I'm looking for
more detailed instructions.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
