[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666125] [NEW] Suspend to RAM with active bluetooth network connection causes problems

2017-02-19 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

If I close my coputer while it is connected to my phone's network via bluetooth
after resuming all of the following might happen
 - Everything works right and i can re-connect to my bluetooth network using
the network-manager-gnome icon
 - Bluetooth network can still be used but network-manager seems to forget
about my WiFi
 - Bluetooth network can still be used and network-manager offers to connect to
the WiFi stations that were there before suspending. But it doesn't scan for
new ones
 - Network works. But /etc/resolv.conf points to 127.0.0.0 and hosts cannot be
resolved until I replace this number by a working nameserver
 - Network works. But dnsmasq no more reacts
 - Network no more works including my loopback network => even a poweroff
command cannot shut down my computer.

If any problems exist a sudo service network-manager restart normally
breaks my loopback network. No idea why.

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

If you use unity-control-center to set the current user from "Log in
without a password" to having a password again, the user is not
removed from the 'nopasswdlogin' UNIX group, and so can log in without
  a password still.

  [ Test case ]

  1. Open the dash, type "User Accounts", open the user accounts panel of
unity-control-center.
  2. Make sure the current user (which must be an admin) is selected in the
list of user's on the left hand side.
  3. Click "Unlock" at the top right, and enter the user's password.
  4. Click the dots to the right of "Password", to open the dialog where you
can change the password mode.
  5. In the combo box at the top, select "Log in without a password". Save the
dialog.
  6. Open a terminal, and execute `grep nopasswdlogin /etc/group'. Note that
the current user is present.
  7. Re-open the password dialog as in step 4.
  8. Select "Set a password now", and set a password. Save the dialog.
  9. Open a terminal, and execute `grep nopasswdlogin /etc/group'.

At step 9, if the bug is present then the user will still be in the
group. If it is fixed then the user will not.

  [ Fix ]

unity-control-center's user-accounts panel contains a codepath to call
`passwd' directly when changing the current user's password. There's
another path when setting the password for a different user which uses
AccountsService. In the former codepath, the AccountsService call
required to remove the user from `nopasswdlogin' is not executed
  (act_user_set_password_mode (..., ACT_USER_PASSWORD_MODE_REGULAR)).

The proposed fix (in the attached MP) is to always make this call when
setting a password, even in this passwd case.

  [ QA ]

Run the test case above. Additionally,

   - Try to use the dialog to change passwords without unlocking it.
   - Try to change both the current and another user's password.

Make sure the nopasswdlogin membership is right at all times and the
new password always gets applied (e.g. try logging out and in to check
  the settings).

  [ Regression potential ]

The fix changes a couple of things

- We now call act_user_set_password_mode () after running passwd.
- We now call act_user_set_password () before act_user_set_password_mode
(), which is the opposite of the previous order.

AFAIK both of these changes are fine, but we should run the QA tests
above to get confidence that they didn't break password setting.

  [ Original description ]

  1. Go to path "System Setting --> User Accounts--> Unlock" to unlock system
setting.
  2. Click "Password --> Action --> Log in without password -->Change to clear
Log in password. (as doing so, the user is added to group "nopasswdlogin")

The packages builds without this issue in debian unstable.

A little experimentation shows that is a ubuntu sbuild/pbuilder and
ppa, setting -pie in the hardening options allows the build to proceed
with the Qt bindings building properly.

Not being overly familiar with the hardening, I am unsure if dropping
that feature set is relatively harmless, or massively undesirable and
  potentially harmful.

However, in a ppa build, but NOT in my local sbuild/pbuilder chroot,
the resulting build then hangs on the (python?) tests on starting or
stopping gpg-agent, and the build is eventually killed due to
inactivity after 150 mins as follows

I would note that this is the first gpgme version from gpg directly,
with the Qt bindings built. These will be essential for future KDE
applications and frameworks, as the gpgmepp previously built in KDE's
  own packages is being dropped.

Bug description:
Snaps that use the app indicator area via Qt can't display their icon
  there.

  Steps to reproduce and screenshot:
  https://github.com/nuttyartist/notes/pull/77

  Some research:

  - Uses http://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qsystemtrayicon.html
  - The indicator icon is created under /tmp under a randomly generated
directory name

  didrocks mentions also:

  1. The application says "this is my menu, and here is my icon at that
address", the address being /tmp/blablabla
  2. appindicator receives the bus messages
  3. and says "let's have a look at this icon at that address"
  4. BUT! /tmp in the snap is different form system /tmp

  SRU bug for libappindicator:

  [Impact]

Indicator icons pointing to a position inside the snap aren't properly
found by unity, that shows a "missing icon" emblem

  [Test case]

  * Download this yaml file http://pastebin.com/raw/FpEvQYGN and save it as
snapcraft.yaml
    in any folder you want
  * Run:
    - snapcraft prime
    - sudo snap try prime
    - snap run gtk3-appindicator

An indicator should open (with proper icon), then if you select "Set
icon with Full Path" and/or "Enable Local Theme" from its menu, you
  should see a proper icon.

When snaps are generated in non updated systems, the icon will be
  still missing.

  [Regression potential]

If $SNAP is defined for an app not running in snap confinement the
  icons couldn't be properly visible

you can change the icon type, and all the types should work.

When snaps are generated in non updated systems, the icons (except the
Themed one) will be still missing.

  [Regression potential]

Cause of crash is to call size() function from invalid pointer in

I have checked why pointer is invalid:

  In function:

  auto& last_entry = onscreen_buffers.front();

last_entry reference pointing not existing object (object is not longer in

alan_g, when I include mir_toolkit header files in chromium I get
this error:
   In file included from
/usr/include/mirclient/mir_toolkit/events/event.h:90:
   #include "mir_toolkit/mir_input_device_types.h"
and apt-file search doesn't return anything
I wonder what I am missing
is this a bug or there's a lib I should have installed?
locate also cant find this file
that's in libmircore-dev. What do you get from $ pkg-config
--cflags mirclient
   $ pkg-config --cflags mirclient
   -pthread -I/usr/include/mirclient -I/usr/include/mircookie
-I/usr/include/mircore
   that lib was missing :)
   Then /usr/include/mircore/mir_toolkit/mir_input_device_types.h ought
to be there
   :s
   ok installing mircore-dev fixed that
apt-file should return it though :/
   Hmm. $ apt depends libmirclient-dev doesn't list libmircore-dev -
sounds like a bug
   yes, when I ran apt-get build-dep libmirclient-dev mircore-dev was
not installed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: lxc

When using LXC (linux containers), /proc/kmsg can be read in guest
systems in their filtered view of /proc. This special file should
never be present in guest systems, and if created within a guest
system, it should be effectively using /dev/null as it's source. The
effect of this bug ranges from simply annoying to potentially a
security issue in that kernel messages are allowed to be destroyed and
never fully logged on the host system, which could be used to cover
evidence of some sort of attack on the system.

I'm adding the kernel team as well, as this could be an issue inside
the kernel. I'm not sure if /proc filtration happens there or in the
context of the lxc userland utilities.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2017-02-19 Thread Diego Liedo
I too have this bug on a Lenovo W520 with Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.4.0-62-generic
The only solution that has worked is restarting the network-manager service,
however if I attach an USB WiFi adapter based on rtl8187, the icon becomes
normal and I can choose a network for that adapter. The Intel Centrino
Advanced-N 6205 remains unusable.
Also the interface name is wlp3s0 instead of the usual wlan0 on other
installations I've made.
If I try $ ifdown wlp3s0 results in Unknown interface wlp3s0
As to comment #133 nm-applet still crashes after hardware switching off/on WiFi
and resuming from suspend.

So switching away and back to mir makes the alt key stick...

  Proposed solution:
  - track regular keys in mir::input::Seat or in SurfaceDispatcher
  - inform client(s) about pause / resume with a focus lost / focus gain event
  - attach key state to focus event or send separate key state event
  - adapt gdk/qt backends

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666084] [NEW] external monitor not supported on 16.10

2017-02-19 Thread Richard Pickett
Public bug reported:

Lenovo w530 w/ Nvidia GK107GLM [Quadro K2000M]

Nouveau finds the VGA monitor and everything works *but* the monitor is
laggy. Seems that's a known issue.

So I install the nvidia driver (add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-
drivers/ppa; apt-get update; apt-get install nvidia-378), but when the
laptop reboots I don't have the second monitor. It doesn't show up in
nvidia-setup.

I've gone back as far as nvidia-304 (yes, one at a time, yes rebuilding
ramdisk and full rebooting, and yes it's slow and painful), but none of
them give me the plugged in monitor.

I'm happy if you want to walk me through get/patch/compile to do
testing. I'd just like (a) a non-laggy experience on the second monitor.

Thanks!

Currently if one chooses to use LVM or encrypted install, a /boot

Once kernel updates start being released this partition soon fills
until people are left unable to upgrade.

While you and I might know that we need to watch partition space, many

and not a partition, education is probably the key - but in the
meantime support venues keep needing to deal with the fact the
partition is too small and/or old kernels are not purged as new ones

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665914] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

2017-02-19 Thread František Kučera
This issue is probably related to the Wacom driver w8001 (see [1] and
[2], thanks [3]).

When I tried `cat /dev/input/mice` in console, system crashed in the
same way as in X, but I got at least some error message (see
attachement).

Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have (up to date) Ubuntu 16.04 on IBM Thinkpad X61 Tablet. I can use
the stylus to move the cursor – but when I touch the screen with it
(i.e. click), the system immediately freezes.

When I touch it without X, in the text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1) it does not
  freeze.

I tried to debug it over network, but the network also freezes at the
  same moment.

When I try QubesOS (with kernel 4.1.13-9.pvops.qubes.x86_64) on the
same machine, the stylus works correctly and the system does not
  freeze.

Any tips how to debug it? Maybe using the serial port (I have the
docking station with RS232). Or I can try some older releases and find
the last one that was working if it helps.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666044] Re: package dash 0.5.5.1-3ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: подпроцесс dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile возвратил код ошибки 2

2017-02-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2017-02-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Marco, could you look into updating startup-database-vacuum.patch for
this new version?

I'm attaching a debdiff against the current version in zesty with
everything else needed for this update except that patch update.

This is the current patch:
https://sources.debian.net/src/zeitgeist/0.9.16-0.2/debian/patches/startup-database-vacuum.patch/

And this is what was merged into zeitgeist 1.0:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-02-19 Thread Serious Diman
After upgrade to Ubuntu 16.10 from 15.04 or 15.10 (I can't remember). Same
here. NetworkManager does not manage my wired eth0 connection.
/etc/network/interfaces and /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf exactly as
in "Aron Xu (happyaron) wrote on 2017-01-26" post.
Additionally my NetworkManager shows previously working bluetooth-modem
connection "device not managed."

  /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

Using ubuntu 16.04, /etc/network/interfaces only managed lo, and
[ifupdown] section of NetworkManager.conf had set managed=false.

With these same settings, after upgrading to ubuntu 16.10, eth0
  appears as unmanaged in nm-applet.

If I modify /etc/network/interfaces and add

  auto eth0
  iface eth0 inet dhcp

And set managed=true in NetworkManager.conf [ifupdown] section, eth0
is still unmanaged despite it does get an IP from DHCP server.

This is happening in my five computers (two laptops and three
  desktops).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1533343] Re: No sound from internal speakers after boot with connected headphones

2017-02-19 Thread Jimisola Laursen
Asus UX303U. Problem started on Ubuntu 16.04 after a regular software upgrade
(apt upgrade).
I have sound through headphones but not internal speakers. The sound in the
speakers came back after I plugged and unplugged my headphones several times
and remained until after reboot.

I've check all sound settings including using alsamixer (nothing is
muted). This bug really limits the use of my laptop.

On Lenovo L450 laptop, when I boot the PC with headphones attached,
then the sound via headphones will work, but there will be no sound
from internal speakers when headphones are detached.

I tested this couple of times and the problem is always reproduced.
  This is the procedure A:

  1. When the problem is not present, sound is present in laptop's speakers,
connect the headphones
  2. initiate reboot
  3. once booted, initiate playing of some audio and check the sound from
headphones - it will work OK
  4. disconnect the headphones - there is no sound from internal speakers

  Procedure B:
  1. turn off the laptop (power off)
  2. connect the headphones to the laptop
  3. power on the laptop and boot into Ubuntu 15.10
  4. once booted, initiate playing of some audio and check the sound from
headphones - it will work OK

  Previously this all worked fine.

Now, in zesty, however an attempt to paste results in a vi error message:

I'm not sure what is enabling this, because /usr/share/vim/vimrc has the line
  set mouse=a commented out.

Ctrl+Left/Right in a right-to-left written language moves the curser
  incorrectly

Status in GTK+:
  Fix Released
Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in gtk+2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gedit

When writing in a right-to-left written language, such as Hebrew, the
left and right keys on their keyboard change their meaning: left moves
to the next character, and right moves the cursor to the previous
character. This works correctly in gedit. However, when using the Ctrl
modifier, Ctrl-Left should move to the next word, and Ctrl-Right
should move to the previous word. This currently doesn't work in
gedit. Instead Ctrl-Left/Right works the same as in English.

To test this in gedit you can copy the following Hebrew text into gedit:
  משפט קצר לנסיון.
Put the cursor at the sentence beginning (which is the rightmost word. By
using Home for example), and then press Ctrl-Left. Instead of moving to the
next word (the middle one), the cursor just stays at the beginning. Now press
Ctrl-Right. Instead of staying, the cursor moves to the next word.

  Regards,
  Haggai

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666021] Re: zesty systemd-resolve timeout

2017-02-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I worked around the high CPU usage by running

sudo systemctl restart systemd-resolved.service

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666021

Title:
  zesty systemd-resolve timeout

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I rebooted my zesty install today so it has network-manager
1.4.4-1ubuntu2 (re-enabled resolved by default for DNS) and systemd
232-17ubuntu1 (which is supposed to fix the CNAME problems that got
resolved by default reverted earlier in zesty).

I had various DNS issues so I rebooted.

When I rebooted, I opened up Firefox and browsed several sites.
I opened a terminal and ran sudo apt update. I disabled a PPA and enabled a
different PPA and ran sudo apt update then sudo apt dist-upgrade (there were 3
updates).

When apt was downloading one of those new packages, it paused mid-
download. I was unable to browse sites in Firefox. I ran this command
  in a different terminal:

  $ systemd-resolve --status
Failed to get global data: Connection timed out

I checked journalctl and there was a very large number of these entries:
  systemd-resolved[3260]: Processing query...

Finally followed by this repeated 3 times:
dnsmasq[3563]: Maximum number of concurrent DNS queries reached (max: 150)

Eventually, after I guess a couple minutes, things returned to normal.
The apt upgrade completed. systemd-resolve --status looked better and
I'm able to use Firefox again (to report this bug).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1661691] Re: TERM=xterm enables mouse mode in vi, breaks pasting with middle mouse

A very unexpected, and totally unwelcome change to vim.

TERM=xterm enables mouse mode in vi, breaks pasting with middle mouse

Status in vim package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I quite often have the following work flow:

  a.) lxc launch ubuntu-daily:zesty z1
  b.) lxc exec z1 /bin/bash
  c.) % vi foo.txt
d.) paste some thing from my X buffer (hit middle mouse button).

Somewhere between yakkety (2:7.4.1829-1ubuntu2.1) and zesty
  (2:8.0.0095-1ubuntu2) this behavior changed.

  Previously this all worked fine.

Now, in zesty, however an attempt to paste results in a vi error message:
   E353: Nothing in register "

to fix this, you can first disable the mouse 'a' [1]

   : set mouse-=a

I'm not sure what is enabling this, because /usr/share/vim/vimrc has the line
  set mouse=a commented out.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666021] [NEW] zesty systemd-resolve timeout

2017-02-19 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

I ran this command in
a different terminal:

$ systemd-resolve --status

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1574120] Re: Notebook doesn't suspend when lid is closed after update to 16.04

2017-02-19 Thread Damian Serrano Thode
HP Pavilion g6 here.

After upgrading the past month from 14.04 to 16.04, I was also affected
by this bug, where with 14.04 I closed the lid and my laptop suspended
as it should.

I tried to set HandleLidSwitch=suspend in logind.conf but it made no
change, the laptop wouldn't suspend.

Today I upgraded from 16.04 to 16.10 and it was all the same, closing
the lid of my laptop does not suspend it.

Reading the comments on this thread, I added
HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend to my logind.conf and now it works
perfectly.

My notebook does not suspend after upgrading from 15.10 to 16.04.

According to system settings the notebook should suspend when lid is
closed but actually this does not happen. Instead it continues to run
  as if nothing had happened.

With the previous versions of ubuntu (14.04-15.10) everything worked
  fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656155] Re: System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-02-19 Thread Viacheslav
After I switched off GPU in Chrome there was not freezing in Chrome. But
I left laptop for a night and in morning I found that he was `frozen`.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1656155

Title:
  System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a 1-month old Acer Aspire F5-573-58VX that came with Win-10
installed. It relies on its Intel i5-7200u for its graphics (HD 620).
It runs Win-10 with no problems (other than Win-10 itself), so I do
  not suspect the hardware.

I succeeded in dual-booting Ubuntu 16.04 with EFI and secure-boot both
enabled, but was suffering random freezes at 3-30 minutes of use, even
after setting the c-state limit in grub. It hangs both with and
without Intel microcode. So I upgraded to 16.10 hoping that a newer
kernel would have a fix in it.

It's still freezing at random (many apps, and sometimes using only the
desktop controls). It still has the c-state parameter in grub.

It appears that if I leave the system untouched with the cursor in an
empty area, then no freeze will occur (I can see display changing) as
long as I don't touch anything. Bittorrent runs reliably overnight,
and then the machine can freeze within seconds of my moving the cursor
to a control in the morning.

Thunderbird is also suspicious: I can work most of an hour OK as long
as I never move the cursor over the scroll slider in the folder pane.
However, bringing the cursor close enough to change the slider's
appearance will usually freeze the machine. Update: I've now
experienced a freeze while the cursor was stationary and I was merely
typing into an email message window.

When it freezes, the machine goes quiet (it's not spinning). There's
no message to the GUI, only a sudden halt. When frozen, soft restart
and reboot (ctrl-alt-back & ctrl-alt-del) both fail. Only a forced
power-off has had any effect. (I'll try your alt+sysreq combos in my
  next freeze).

Synaptic says I have an intel driver update utility installed, but I
don't know if it has run. When I try to sudo it, I am told that the
command is not found. I have been unable to locate it in the file
system. If anyone knows where that goes (or where to hunt), that might
  be helpful.

I do not (yet) know how to ssh into the sick machine to get kernel
logs or crash dumps. I'm a user-space programmer, not a sysadmin, so I
have a learning curve to open the firewall enough to allow an
intrusion, and more learning curves for the cryptic debugging tools.

  var/log/kern.log has this:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1647031] Re: systemd-resolved’s 127.0.0.53 server does not follow CNAME records

2017-02-19 Thread Martin Pitt
Note: We keep DNSSEC=allow-downgrade during development to collect
feedback, but switch it off for stable releases (we did so in yakkety
and should do so again in zesty). So if you have some trouble which is
DNSSEC related, it would be good to get a debug output of resolved while
it's failing to report/investigate it. But that should be unrelated to
the CNAME bug here.
