[Touch-packages] [Bug 1663528] Re: pulseaudio assert failure: pulseaudio: mixer.c:929: snd_mixer_elem_get_callback_private: Assertion `mixer' failed.

2017-02-18 Thread dino99
Status changed as a crash happened quickly after a gnome-shell session ; was
only checking archives upload via synaptic.
Stangely Apport have decided that is a duplicate of that report (which was set
as invalid many days back).
So im joining the crash file as many upgraded packages has been done

   RESULT

From time to time, some of these happen:
  - The applet doesn't list any wireless network.
  - The applet doesn't show the name of the current network.
  - The icon shows the wired connection symbol, instead of the wifi one.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1592427] Re: I can't disable proposed updates

2017-02-18 Thread ajgreeny
I forgot about this bug, but I later realised that the problem was due to my
installation of the OS from a daily cd version of the ISO file from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/xenial/daily-live/pending/xenial-desktop-amd64.iso.zsync
rather than the normal download site. I did not realise that the version from
there has proposed repos enabled
Apologies for not reporting this find before, but at least I now know what was
the cause.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665878] [NEW] Nautilus scripts can't handle file/foldernames containing % character

2017-02-18 Thread Michael Kuster
Public bug reported:

This bug affects Ubuntu 14.04.5 and 16.04.1, most likely all others

If a file/foldername contains the % character, the script won't run as espected
if you use $1 or $@ to get the arguments for the script:
If the file name is 'filename %123.xxx' you will get 'filename 23.xxx' as the
argument $1.

The bug can be demonstated with this simple script:
#!/bin/bash
#path: ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts
zenity --window-icon=info --info --title="Info" --text="If there is a % in the
filename, you can see than \
here goes something wrong: \n\n'$1'\n'$(echo
${NAUTILUS_SCRIPT_SELECTED_FILE_PATHS##*/})' (this is like it should be)"

** Affects: at-spi2-core (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1014992] Re: Ubuntu 12.04, i386, cannot use rfcomm as regular user. Permission denied.

2017-02-18 Thread gratefulfrog
I have this same problem on Xubunut 16.04.

I cannot access rfcomm* except as root, despite the permissions:

$ ls -al /dev/rfcomm0
crw-rw 1 root dialout 216, 0 Feb 18 13:58 /dev/rfcomm0

and my membership to dialout:

$ id bob
uid=1000(bob) gid=1000(bob)
groups=1000(bob),4(adm),20(dialout),24(cdrom),27(sudo),30(dip),44(video),46(plugdev),115(lpadmin),131(sambashare)

I would like to access rfcomm0 via putty, but it WILL only work with
$ sudo putty

Is there a workaround that can permanently fix this?

Thanks bob.

Cheers,
Bob

Bug description:
After updating from 8.04 to 12.04 I cannot use rfcomm without sudo.

I've already added the user to group 'dialout' .

  Temporary I tried to change udev.rules (KERNEL=="rfcomm[0-9]*",
GROUP="dialout", MODE="666")  but this doesn't
solve the problem so I removed it again.

Here the commands I used :

  burki@orion:/$ hcitool scan

  burki@orion:/$ rfcomm connect 1 00:12:6F:08:98:FF

  burki@orion:/$ sudo rfcomm connect 1 00:12:6F:08:98:FF
  Connected /dev/rfcomm1 to 00:12:6F:08:98:FF on channel 1
  Press CTRL-C for hangup

In another terminal while connection is running ...

  burki@orion:/$ ls -l /dev/rfcomm1
  crw-rw 1 root dialout 216, 1 Jun 19 09:01 /dev/rfcomm1

  burki@orion:/$ UDEV_LOG=debug udevadm test $(udevadm info -q path -n rfcomm1)
(I've stolen this command from another bug report #570692. Output is very
long. Please see attachment)

  WORKAROUND: sudo chmod u+s /usr/bin/rfcomm

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Formatting a SD card using the disk utility fails with an error
  message

"Error formatting disk - Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed
out waiting for object (udisks-error-quark, 0)"

The underlying problem is that the "wipefs" tool from util-linux does
  not work any more.

You can work around this bug in gnome-disk-utility using these steps:

  * After selecting the SD card, instead of clicking the gear icon to format,
click the partition in the "Volumes" section.

  * Delete the partition ("minus" icon)

  * Create a new partition

  [Test Case]

  $ sudo modprobe scsi_debug dev_size_mb=200
  # this creates a new /dev/sdX, usually /dev/sdb; check dmesg!

  # now create a partition table
  $ cat

I suggest to change the output to something like this:

  -
  Description: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (GA)
  -

In the first case the system uses kernel 4.8 and its corrisponding Xserver.
In the second case the system uses kernel 4.4 and Xserver 1.18.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665893] [NEW] DNS resolution of VPN hosts stopped working

2017-02-18 Thread gpothier
Public bug reported:

I have been using 17.04 for a few weeks now, but a recent update seems
to have broken DNS resolution for VPN hosts. The local network is
192.168.50.*, with DNS at 192.168.50.2. The remote network is
192.168.0.*, with DNS at 192.168.0.2. I can ping remote hosts, but I
can't resolve their names, although syslog says the following:

systemd-resolved[2865]: Switching to DNS server 192.168.0.2 for
interface tun0.

The remote DNS domain is ozone.caligrafix.cl. Here is what does and
doesn't work, using a valid remote host name (cali00):

dig cali00: fails
dig cali00.ozone.caligrafix.cl: fails
dig cali00 @192.168.0.2: works
dig cali00.ozone.caligrafix.cl @192.168.0.2: works

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665894] [NEW] nm-applet sometimes autostarts, sometimes not

2017-02-18 Thread flrtx
Public bug reported:

When I boot my computer, sometimes (but not always) I don't have a network
applet in the top right corner. I then have to start nm-applet in a terminal

nm-applet is in my autostart list.
What can I do to fix this?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1660633] Re: /usr/bin/ucfr: line ... : [: : integer expression expected

2017-02-18 Thread Andy
Except that the dozen of frozen packages that were also experiencing the
same UCFR error were resolved once the ucfr script was tweaked. Just
because one package continued to have a fundamental flaw doesn't mean
the others were. FWIW.

I don't know why ucfr is erroring out but the accumulated errors are
now enough to stall priority packages which I feel hamstrung about.
I've reinstalled the ucf package and danced around the issue enough.

Any maintainers have a shot in the dark for why this would be

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1663647] Re: cannot add printer

2017-02-18 Thread Till Kamppeter
Please follow the instructions of the section "CUPS error_log" on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. We need the error_log
of the time starting from when you plug-in your USB printer until the
time when the errors appear in /ver/log/syslog.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665914] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

2017-02-18 Thread František Kučera
Public bug reported:

I have (up to date) Ubuntu 16.04 on IBM Thinkpad X61 Tablet. I can use
the stylus to move the cursor – but when I touch the screen with it
(i.e. click), the system immediately freezes.

When I touch it without X, in the text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1) it does not
freeze.

I tried to debug it over network, but the network also freezes at the
same moment.

When I try QubesOS (with kernel 4.1.13-9.pvops.qubes.x86_64) on the same
machine, the stylus works correctly and the system does not freeze.

Any tips how to debug it? Maybe using the serial port (I have the
docking station with RS232). Or I can try some older releases and find
the last one that was working if it helps.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

I just wanted to say that the package I had in my kde-test-good PPA was just an
experiment, nothing actually intended to be uploaded. Before finishing
completely the fixing of this, I had to pause for a while my work on Ubuntu
(I'm sorry about that).

After catching up again with the work I was doing I see the problems I
spotted initially (the entropy starvation and the tests hanging) were
solved, thank you!

However there are still at least a couple of problems more with this package.
Right now, I'm doing some experiments here:
https://launchpad.net/~panfaust/+archive/ubuntu/gpgme/

Yes, it's not something acceptable for uploading for now! But I hope to
get something finished soon.

Cheers.

The packages builds without this issue in debian unstable.

A little experimentation shows that is a ubuntu sbuild/pbuilder and
ppa, setting -pie in the hardening options allows the build to proceed
with the Qt bindings building properly.

Not being overly familiar with the hardening, I am unsure if dropping
that feature set is relatively harmless, or massively undesirable and
  potentially harmful.

However, in a ppa build, but NOT in my local sbuild/pbuilder chroot,
the resulting build then hangs on the (python?) tests on starting or

I would note that this is the first gpgme version from gpg directly,
with the Qt bindings built. These will be essential for future KDE
applications and frameworks, as the gpgmepp previously built in KDE's
  own packages is being dropped.

If you want to be able to select English, why not install the English
language packs? OTOH, what you say does make some sense. I'll have a
look at it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665853] Re: Gnome Flashback: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration

2017-02-18 Thread Thomas Mayer
@mitya57 @muktupavels thanks for reporting back.

Directory /var/lib/lightdm was empty in my case:

/var/lib/lightdm# ls -lh #as root user
insgesamt 0

Copying

/home//.config/monitors.xml

to

/var/lib/lightdm/monitors.xml

does not fix this issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665919] [NEW] Asus Xonar DGX - snd_oxygen - Linux 4.4

2017-02-18 Thread Valentin Crone
Public bug reported:

Hello,
On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, the update manager was just upgraded my kernel from
3.13.0-87 to 4.4.0-62, and now my sound card is unusable. (Driver regression?)

03:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788
[Oxygen HD Audio]

who uses snd_oxygen (module)

Before the update: All speakers works perfectly.

After the update:
Right speaker -> Works
Left speaker -> Doesn't work, and make noise
Center/Rear left and right/Subwoofer -> Doesn't work at all.

Please fix this if you want to make the update usable.

The sound card works perfectly with Linux 3.13 and even with Windows 7.

So now I'll remove this update.

Thank you,
Valentin CRÔNE

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665853] Re: Gnome Flashback: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration

2017-02-18 Thread Thomas Mayer
The path was wrong in #6 (I forgot the /.config/

Copying

/home//.config/monitors.xml

to

/var/lib/lightdm/.config/monitors.xml

fixes this issue for me (see image attached).

Btw.: After upgrade to new HWE/Xorg I had to resize my monitors to get
rid of similar situations for the gnome session itself. That could be
done by reajusting resolution two times (go for wrong resolution and
back to right resolution). But that could be done via GUI (system
settings/displax devices). Be that a bug in itself or not, I think it is
not convenient, at least.

However, the GUI setting did not affect lightdm monitor settings. Only
copying monitors.xml to /var/lib/lightdm/.config/ did.

For lightdm, I think this is a bug, just because it requires non-GUI
user interaction. Average users should not be tricked into such
situations.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665853] Re: HWE 16.04.2: Login Screen goes partially black after upgrade (Dual Screen)

2017-02-18 Thread Thomas Mayer
I still get syslog entries

Feb 18 20:16:52 lat61 gnome-session[3090]: ** (gnome-flashback:3185): WARNING
**: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration
Feb 18 20:16:52 lat61 gnome-session[3090]: ** (gnome-flashback:3185): WARNING
**: Could not make default configuration for current output layout, leaving
unconfigured

Now that the login screen works correctly (after manual intervention), I
think this is a separate issue, which should be handled with a separate

  I'm using ubuntu 16.04, up-to-date, HWE kernel 4.8.0-36-generic.

On dual screen setup, during system login, the first screen stretches
over a part of the second screen (about 25% of it), whereas the rest
of the second screen is black. Like this:

  # # #<<|...#
  # Login# #<<|.Black.#

The part marked with "<<" is the rightest part of the background image
of the first screen. I've seen this after updating to xorg/xserver-
hwe-16.04, whereas installing the hwe kernel alone did not make this
  happen.

Nevertheless, I can login and everything is fine again. Both screens
look as they should. (I had to reconfigure monitors once after
  updating to xorg/xserver-hwe-16.04).

No, the fact that the tweaks to the ucfr script helped means your
installation *as a whole* is corrupted. egrep is /bin/egrep, which is part
of the grep package. There is no reason for egrep to fail, but grep -E to
work, except a corrupted system. Likewise, the '$' syntax is valid bash
shell syntax, so if this is failing, somehow the script is being run under
an interpreter that isn't bash.

What kind of weird detection are they doing?

Bug description:
The User-Agent string for the browser is similar enough to the Android
browser User-Agent, that it creates a poor experience when browsing
the web on an Ubuntu phone. An inordinately large number of web sites
persistently advertise to "install our app" instead of providing the
best web experience; an app which cannot be installed.

This is exacerbated by the pervasiveness of webapps on Ubuntu phone,
which simply embed the mobile web site with webapp-container, and
still result in seeing such advertisements, despite the fact that the
"app" on Ubuntu is already installed, and the Android apps being
  advertised are simply not installable.

Having all the big web sites telling users of Ubuntu that they should
be using Android instead, is not very good for the user experience at
  all.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1647204] Re: 1.8.0-2 FTBFS in zesty 17.04

2017-02-18 Thread Jose Manuel Santamaria Lema
Hi again, I think I'm done now with a proposal for upload, the package was
tested in this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~panfaust/+archive/ubuntu/gpgme

Note that I also tested a rebuild of kf5-kdepim-apps-libs against it; right now
kf5-kdepim-apps-libs is failing against the current version in -proposed,
making some autopkgtests fail and blocking the migration of some kde libraries.
See, for instance:
https://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/proposed-migration/update_excuses.html#kiconthemes

So we would really appreciate if someone could upload this fixed
package.

If you think the proposed fix can be improved, suggestions are welcomed
:)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1656155] Re: System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-02-18 Thread Viacheslav
I did fresh install.

Currently I am on Ubuntu 16.04 with `uname -r` -> 4.4.0-62-generic. I
checked Ubuntu 16.10 on Feb 17 2017, sorry, but didn't check kernel
version, but assure it was fresh as possible (after install I made `sudo
apt upgrade`).

Also I found that, maybe, all freezes occur in Chrome browser (in my
scenario), so respectively to assumptions that Intel Graphic is guilty
in this bug I switched off GPU support in Chrome settings and keep
watching my laptop.

Title:
  System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

Status in libdrm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have a 1-month old Acer Aspire F5-573-58VX that came with Win-10
installed. It relies on its Intel i5-7200u for its graphics (HD 620).
It runs Win-10 with no problems (other than Win-10 itself), so I do
  not suspect the hardware.

I succeeded in dual-booting Ubuntu 16.04 with EFI and secure-boot both
enabled, but was suffering random freezes at 3-30 minutes of use, even
after setting the c-state limit in grub. It hangs both with and
without Intel microcode. So I upgraded to 16.10 hoping that a newer
kernel would have a fix in it.

It's still freezing at random (many apps, and sometimes using only the
desktop controls). It still has the c-state parameter in grub.

It appears that if I leave the system untouched with the cursor in an
empty area, then no freeze will occur (I can see display changing) as
long as I don't touch anything. Bittorrent runs reliably overnight,
and then the machine can freeze within seconds of my moving the cursor
to a control in the morning.

Thunderbird is also suspicious: I can work most of an hour OK as long
as I never move the cursor over the scroll slider in the folder pane.
However, bringing the cursor close enough to change the slider's
appearance will usually freeze the machine. Update: I've now
experienced a freeze while the cursor was stationary and I was merely
typing into an email message window.

When it freezes, the machine goes quiet (it's not spinning). There's
no message to the GUI, only a sudden halt. When frozen, soft restart
and reboot (ctrl-alt-back & ctrl-alt-del) both fail. Only a forced
power-off has had any effect. (I'll try your alt+sysreq combos in my
  next freeze).

Synaptic says I have an intel driver update utility installed, but I
don't know if it has run. When I try to sudo it, I am told that the
command is not found. I have been unable to locate it in the file
system. If anyone knows where that goes (or where to hunt), that might
  be helpful.

I do not (yet) know how to ssh into the sick machine to get kernel
logs or crash dumps. I'm a user-space programmer, not a sysadmin, so I
have a learning curve to open the firewall enough to allow an
intrusion, and more learning curves for the cryptic debugging tools.

  var/log/kern.log has this:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1582191] Re: Boot stalls for 90 seconds on mdadm

2017-02-18 Thread jhansonxi
May be related to bug #1568097 which had the same messages.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1582191

Title:
Boot stalls for 90 seconds on mdadm

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On a fresh Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 LTS Server install, the boot stalls for
exactly 90 seconds when using a fairly complex partitioning setup.
After this, everything works as expected.

  The partitioning is as follows:
  /sda GPT
  /sda1 ESP (/boot/efi)
  /sda2 raid1 md0 ext4 (/boot)
  /sda3 raid1 md1 luks,passphrase ext4 (/)
  /sda4 raid1 md2 luks,key zfs
  /sdb GPT
  /sdb1 ESP (copy of /boot/efi)
  /sdb2 raid1 md0 ext4 (/boot)
  /sdb3 raid1 md1 luks,passphrase ext4 (/)
  /sdb4 raid1 md2 luks,key zfs
  /sdc GPT
  /sdc1 luks,key xfs
  /sdd GPT
  /sdd1 luks,key xfs
  /sdd2 luks,random swap

This may be an installer or mdadm bug instead - I have not been able
to exactly determine the cause of the bug.

I have several identical servers, all showing the same symptom, so it
should not be due to broken hardware (although design flaws are on the
  table).

The key seems to be in these lines from journalctl:
  ...
May 16 14:06:08 molnix kernel: bridge: automatic filtering via
arp/ip/ip6tables has been deprecated. Update your scripts to load br_netfilter
if you need this.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1567035] [NEW] Wi-Fi Completely Disabled after Lid Shut Suspend on Dell Latitude 3340

2017-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Wi-fi becomes disabled sometimes after the lid on the laptop is shut and
the OS is suspended for a time. Bluetooth is turned off when this
occurs.

The network settings first reports "Wi-Fi is disabled" when the OS is resumed.
If the user then disables and re-enables Networking or Wi-Fi via the menu
option , the status of the Wi-Fi changes to say "Wi-Fi is disabled by hardware
switch".
Toggling the Fn-PrtScr keyboard hardware networking switch has no effect and
does not actually re-enable the Wi-Fi. Running "sudo rfkill unblock wifi" also
has no effect.

The only known workaround is to restart the machine.

Moving this to NetworkManager so it gets triaged. I think this may be a
duplicate of an existing bug there.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571882] [NEW] 5GHz Wi-Fi Intermittently Disconnects on Dell Latitude 3340

2017-02-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When connected to a 5GHz (802.11ac) WPA2 wireless network with UFW firewall
enabled at system startup , I experience intermittent issues where the Wi-Fi
completely disconnects and the 5G network is no longer displayed in the list of
Wi-Fi Networks.
Toggling the "Enable Wi-Fi" option resets the Wi-Fi and allows the user to
reconnect.

The latest A10 firmware version is installed on the laptop.

I confirmed that the 5G network was still up and running , so the issue is most
likely not on the router network end.
I have no custom firewall rules that would cause this behaviour , but I do see
a lot of multicast address resolution requests being blocked in the ufw logs.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: linux-image-4.2.0-35-generic 4.2.0-35.40~14.04.1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1665914] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

2017-02-18 Thread Shelby Jueden
I have just encountered this same problem. I don't have the stylus but
the system does freeze when I touch the screen.

Title:
Ubuntu 16.04 freezes on Thinkpad X61 Tablet when touched by the stylus

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have (up to date) Ubuntu 16.04 on IBM Thinkpad X61 Tablet. I can use
the stylus to move the cursor – but when I touch the screen with it
(i.e. click), the system immediately freezes.

When I touch it without X, in the text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1) it does not
  freeze.

I tried to debug it over network, but the network also freezes at the
  same moment.

When I try QubesOS (with kernel 4.1.13-9.pvops.qubes.x86_64) on the
same machine, the stylus works correctly and the system does not
  freeze.

Any tips how to debug it? Maybe using the serial port (I have the
docking station with RS232). Or I can try some older releases and find
the last one that was working if it helps.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1567744] Re: USB NICs get too long name for ifupdown aliases or bridge names

2017-02-18 Thread Peter Ziobrzynski
Good that we have a workaround - "net.ifnames=0 biosdevname=0". Still, I
think we need to reevaluate the importance level of "medium" - this is
toxic.
