There are lots of possibilities. Localisers have collected some of their advice in the localisation guide: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/guide/start You can see a list of project that are using Pootle already: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/live_servers Some of these are language teams, like the Basque team. Many others are for projects that want to make things easier for localisers. Pootle can help you to coordinate a team of helpers, even if it is just to give suggestions from time to time. Since it has some features for quality control, it is also a nice platform for newcomers to get some training with terminology suggestions and the quality checks. I hope the localisation guide will give you some ideas on how to spend your time best. I think the process is the other way round. First you contact the projects and offer to do Papiamento for them. You're lucky in the sense that PAP is a rare language and with most projects you will not have to deal with existing PAP translators. But the first step would be to contact the project developers, post messages on their forums and mailing lists, and ensure that you are able to follow their l10n systems yourself. This is what I do with Decathlon also... for me it's just more complicated because I often have to deal with existing translators who may not wish to use Pootle and in some cases don't want assistance. It may also be a good idea to periodically send incomplete translations to those projects so that they know you're still there and working. If you are granted submit rights to their CVS or similar, you may be able to set up Pootle with it so that the latest POT file is always on Pootle and the latest PO file is periodically updated in their CVS, automatically. If you have the technical know-how, you will be in much better control of what you can do. If you're using someone else's Pootle server (eg you're using locamotion.org's server) you are at the mercy of whoever is in charge there and also at the mercy of whatever services they are using. This is not necessarily a bad thing, if the server you're using is run by competent people, but if you're a technically skilled person yourself, I'm sure you'll appreciate being in control. Hi folks, I am new to Pootle (Server) concept. Lately I have done some translation/localization work for the Language Papiamento. My interest goes in general to all open source projects/programmes that can be utilized for educational purposes. I want to tackle translations in papiamentu for a set of open source projects on a structured manner. My Question: Is it wise to start my own Pootle Server where I can host my own translation programme? Eventually I want also to involve more people to translation of papiamento resources.
