Re: [translate-pootle] Adding a permalink button to make linking to string in edit mode easier
Hi Asheesh Samuel I agree that this would be a nice feature. Upon clicking the permalink, if the user is not logged in, Pootle should automatically take the user to the login page and then, upon successful login, to the string. I don't have any time for such a feature at the moment, since Pootle still needs polish and stabilizing. But I'm definitely open to patches. Also, could you put the request into Bugzilla Asheesh? At present, the best way to get that URL is to move to the next or previous segment, then click the relevant segment itself (to give it focus, may not be necessary, depending on your browser), and then right-click the Edit link that pops up on the right-hand side. Something that comes up frequently is that we want translators to translate a few particular strings with high urgency. It would be nice to see something like a permalink icon to each string so that we could grab that link and send it to translators. I was thinking of adding this into the Creative Commons Pootle templates, perhaps linking the external link image used by MediaWiki (e.g. http://upload.wikimedia.org/skins/monobook/external.png ) to what I'm calling the permalink URL. Perhaps at the start of the string, so that muscle memory can find it each time. What do the rest of y'all Pootlers think? Is this something that you'd be interested in? -- Asheesh. Hi Asheesh, I have always thought about permalinks, they are useful and it only implies creating an hyperlink for each unit pair. Anyway, I don't think the MediaWiki external link image is the most appropriate way to display them. This image would mean, as you said, an external link, and the link points inside Pootle. Also, the image is popularly recognized as an external link, and not as a permalink. I would add the unit number at the beginning of each translation unit row. Then, I would either link the permalink directly or make the permalink appear when hovering the mouse, just like the Python documentation[1] does. Julen.
