Re: [Trisquel-users] Which is the easiest way of making an .html file with Trisquel Belenos?
In the O.S I have been using during these last 9 years it was an option of one of the browsers I could use. But I can't find something similar here. I gather your OS of nine years was Puppy. Just curious, what exactly is the "missing" feature you can't find in Trisquel? Pale Moon, Developer Tools, Geany, text tags?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trouble with add-ons on ABrowser
I've had no issues installing Noscript or any other extension. The issue has always been that Trisquel's built-in customized addons manager doesn't work. The workaround has been for a few years to go to https://trisquel.info/en/browser
Re: [Trisquel-users] is it possible to upgrade from trisquel 7 to trisquel 8
This might work, but have you tested it, and is it the recommended method?
Re: [Trisquel-users] is it possible to upgrade from trisquel 7 to trisquel 8
You can also run update-manager -d, which allows you to upgrade to prerelease versions
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does PlayOnLinux work with Trisquel 8?
While I definitely see the value in sharing CLI knowledge and skills, I think it's important to start with a link to a disclaimer along the lines of: "On a desktop GNU-Linux system like Trisquel, installing software using anything other than the package manager (via apt-get or a GUI like Synaptic or Add/ Remove Applications), and especially compiling programs from source code, can result in a number of things you may not expect, including but not limited to: * programs that don't run correctly, or at all * problems identifying and installing dependencies; all the other programs that the program you are trying to install needs to run correctly * having to manually update to newer versions if and when they become available (apt-get update will not help you here) * having to manually uninstall the program if you no longer want it (apt-get remove and apt-get purge will not help you here) * security vulnerabilities, and /or race condition bugs, introduced into your system due to a lack of testing of programs you've manually installed with the distro you're using When installing software that is not included in the default repositories of the distro you're using, it's best to test the program on a clone system on a separate partition, or another computer, running the same version of the same distro. This makes it less likely that you will bork your main system, and more likely that you will be able to connect to the net to seek advice on how to fix any problems you run into. Finally, when using a 100% free code distro like Trisquel (or Parabola or any of the others endorsed by the FSF), installing software from PPAs, or from the web, or compiling from source, can result in proprietary software being introduced into your system." Is there a page on the wiki communicating something along these lines? If not, I will create one, and anyone is welcome to improve the text.
[Trisquel-users] GPG KEY
Where can I find the GPG key (file) for Trisquel 8? I did found an old one in one of the mirrors but it gave me a bad signature.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Does PlayOnLinux work with Trisquel 8?
There are only small warning notices on https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-software-installation-trisquel-different-windows and https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/installing-packages-without-internet-connection Instead, there could be a link to a whole document page with the text you suggest.
[Trisquel-users] Re : GPG KEY
Here it is: http://jenkins.trisquel.info/archive/trisquel/trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg
Re: [Trisquel-users] GPG KEY
Thanks MAgic Banana, but that is the key that I downloaded before ... maybe I'm doing something wrong and you can light me up. This is what I got on the directory that I'm working on (by the way, how do I enter code on this forum?): trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso.asc trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso.md5 trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso So the command that I'm using are the following: gpg --import trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg gpg: key 8D8AEBF1: "Trisquel GNU/Linux (Trisquel GNU/Linux signing key) " not changed gpg: key 0C05112F: "Trisquel GNU/Linux " not changed gpg: Total number processed: 2 gpg: unchanged: 2 But then this is what happen: gpg --verify trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso.asc trisquel_8.0_amd64.iso gpg: Signature made Sun 18 Jun 2017 10:53:40 PM CDT using DSA key ID 8D8AEBF1 gpg: BAD signature from "Trisquel GNU/Linux (Trisquel GNU/Linux signing key) " I have been a Slackware user for years and that always work for me, so do I am doing something wrong?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Iridium installation
So, does Iridium allow you to watch NetFlix on Trisquel? For the record, there are good reasons not give money to NetFlix, or the media corporations they pass much of that money on to, due to their support for DRM: https://www.defectivebydesign.org/netflix Here's a guide to some source of DRM-free video, although be warned, it's a bit out-of-date: https://www.defectivebydesign.org/guide/video
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 codename "Flidas" Release Candidate is ready for testing
Hi david, thanks! This is what I'm waiting for.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas Artwork
Wow, it looks neat! This might be interesting as an enhancement. Would you agree on having it included upstream?
Re: [Trisquel-users] ebook reader advice
True, but it is a known vector the delivery of malware, at least on Windows: https://blog.checkpoint.com/2015/05/12/the-microsoft-help-file-chm-may-enslave-you/ Also, there seems to be no default program for opening .CHM files on Trisquel 7. I decided to take the risk and open one, but the system tells me no program is available to open such a file.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does PlayOnLinux work with Trisquel 8?
This is incredibly cool! :D thank you so much for this! One question though: what about files/directories that is part of the playonlinux program but does not contain "playonlinux" in its name?
[Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
Like for example playing music from an external speaker via bluetooth
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
install the bluez stack normally. (I'm not on a trisquel pc at the moment so can't check whether it's in the trisquel repo's, sorry.) http://www.bluez.org/
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
gnome-bluetooth is already installed in Trisquel 8. From this page it seems that you just need to setup your device (it may be seen by gb as 'Headset' or something like that) and enjoy your music :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
Install Blueman sudo apt install blueman
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
Cool, I got it to work with the BlueDevil package :) Are there any performance differences between the packages or do they just different GUI/UX?
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
cheers
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
BlueDevil brings KDE dependencies. It's big. Blueman is for MATE. Small in size.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I connect to other devices via bluetooth in Trisquel 8?
Archwiki has an entry on bluetooth. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth
Re: [Trisquel-users] is it possible to upgrade from trisquel 7 to trisquel 8
To be honest that's the method I used. The only bug I've found is reported here: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/testing-trisquel-8-upgrade-process Been using Flidas since than.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas Artwork
Sure! The image attached in my comment is lower resolution than the original because the full resolution image exceeded the maximum upload size. Where should I upload the full resolution image?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel needs to be rebooted and based on Ubuntu 18.04
After all, does anyone give me a brief easy conclusion? I cannot understand which assertion is more reasonable. I am a begginer, but, >since Trisquel 8 is based on an almost 2 year old system. sounds strange. That's understandable. I mean, why does it be based on 2 year old system? might be a begginers' natural question. I am not going to let them speed up. And it seems that basically they don't intend them to speed up. I am not also going to criticize something. But I wonder to seem that discussion stopped on the way in spite of not having a valuable and reasonable conclusion. If I am misunderstanding that, please correct me:) At least for me, it seems that discussion stopped on the way.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wi-Fi Adapter Requires Unplug and Replug to Allow Connection to Wi-Fi Networks
I found a workaround. I made a simple bash script called "toggle-networking.sh", with the contents: #! /bin/bash nmcli radio wifi off && nmcli radio wifi on This turns my wifi off and then back on. I can run it from my desktop.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel needs to be rebooted and based on Ubuntu 18.04
> But I wonder to seem that > discussion stopped on the way in spite of not having a valuable and > reasonable conclusion. You are somewhat new to the forum, so you may not realize that this discussion has been had many times already. I think many of us would find it boring to continue to have it again, and there is no point because Trisquel 8 is days from being released. Trisquel 8 came later than Trisquel releases normally do. We all know that. As long as it is released before Ubuntu 18.04, the development of Trisquel 9 has not been delayed. The circumstances that delayed Trisquel 8 have changed, so Trisquel 9 will probably be released faster. There's not much else to say that hasn't already been said. signature.asc Description: PGP signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] Flidas Artwork
Here are some screenshots using the both the original background and the bluified one for comparison. My version isn't necessarily better. The colors in the original are beautiful and more interesting than the blue version, but I think the blue works better with some of the icons and makes the white text on the desktop more readable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Does PlayOnLinux work with Trisquel 8?
I think this is a great idea. > Finally, when using a 100% free code distro like Trisquel (or > Parabola or any of the others endorsed by the FSF), installing > software from PPAs, or from the web, or compiling from source, can > result in proprietary software being introduced into your system." This part is especially important. I try to remember to mention it whenever I help someone add a PPA, but it would be great to have something to link to along with the other points you raise. > Is there a page on the wiki communicating something along these > lines? If not, I will create one, and anyone is welcome to improve > the text. That would be awesome, thank you. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel needs to be rebooted and based on Ubuntu 18.04
I see. Thanks. So am I understand to that: •Trisquel 8 was delayed unexpectedly reason (I understand lacking manpower and Mr. Ruben was worked at FSF are main reason), so the delay forced to basing Trisquel 8 on Ubuntu 16.04. (Releasing Trisquel 8 which is based on Ubuntu 18.04 before release of Ubuntu 18.04 is impossible) ? And I want to support something if the reason of delay of newer OS has serious problems, and if I can do something support. Many people probably think so, but does >The development of Trisquel 9 has not been delayed. The circumstances that delayed Trisquel 8 have changed, so Trisquel 9 will probably be released faster. means that project solved the problems which delayed the development of Trisquel 8? Could you tell me that how the circumstances was improved? I was guessing that the primary problem was an economical problem. And lack of skillful developers (I have no idea how many people have skill which can develop even OS) might be as well. As my guess is correct, is there something which we (even begginers) can do for it? just chant? And it has nothing to do with it but do you like Cuban music? (I know I know we have argued once about off-topic :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel needs to be rebooted and based on Ubuntu 18.04
> so the delay forced to > basing Trisquel 8 on Ubuntu 16.04. Not exactly. Trisquel 8 was always going to be based on 16.04. It just took longer than usual. Trisquel 9 was always going to be based on 18.04, which is why development of Trisquel 9 can't begin until 18.04 is released later this month. Normally, versions of Trisquel are released about 6 months after the corresponding Ubuntu release[1]. > Could you tell me that how the circumstances was improved? From an announcment[2] several months ago: "The good news is that at the FSF my workload has normalized through this last year, and now I have regained the time to commit myself to weekly development meetings and other necessary work." > is there something which we (even begginers) can do > for it? We can help wrap up Trisquel 8 development by testing the newest ISOs[3] and reporting[4] any remaining bugs. Writing and translating documentation is another way to help. Would you be interested in translating documentation to Japanese? > And it has nothing to do with it but do you like Cuban > music? I'm not familiar with much Cuban music. [Trisquel-users] Re : GPG KEY
It is to authenticate packages, right? If so, execute those commands in a terminal: $ wget http://jenkins.trisquel.info/archive/trisquel/trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg $ sudo apt-key add trisquel-archive-signkey.gpg
[Trisquel-users] Re : ebook reader advice
xchm is in Trisquel's repository.
Re: [Trisquel-users] GPG KEY
Yes I am trying to authenticate the package. The md5sum mathc so we are good on that part. I can't use apt-get because right now I am using Freenix (FreeSlack) and that is why I was trying to ensure that I have the right package from the right person. The way that I add the key file is using the command gpg --import. When I executed the last command (gpg --import) it doesn't gave me any error.
