2015-05-10 Thread greatgnu
I tried cairo dock and docky. Ughh, so heavy an full of useless nonsense!
Really didn't like them. I finally managed to solve the issue with plank
(which is a great dock - fast and simple, only 20 mb ram usage..great!).

Right click on desktop - create launcher. You create your launcher, assign an
icon, a path .. Then you cut and paste that launcher in a folder of your
choice (I placed each launcher in the folder of the application). Left click
hold and move the launcher (example - Musique.desktop) over the plank dock
and release the left mouse bottom - that's it: you have your launcher in
plank!

cheers!

Welcome to the Trisquel community!

If you are concerned about passing windose malware to your friends who use

[Trisquel-users] Plank docky

2015-05-08 Thread greatgnu
I installed the plank docky and I like it very much. It's lightweight, simple
and nice. The problem is I can't find a way to keep in the dock custom
launchers - example - I'd like to place the launcher for musique or for
Popcorn-Time in the docky, so I open musique and right click on the icon on
the dock but there is no keep in dock option. Then I went to
/home/.config/plank/launchers and created the .dockitem files for the
applications I'd like to add and see that there are new launchers in the dock
but it doesn't work. I also created the .desktop files in the
/home/.local/share/applications folder.

Has anyone tried this docky? If so, do you know of a workaround? I asked on
their IRC channel a couple of times but there were like 5 people there and
total silence, no response at all..

p.s - what is the most lightweight dock that you've ever used?

I did a search. There are several posts dealing with Bubbuntu and acer one

they suggest installing some proprietary driver. If they do.. don't!! And
don't try skype! skype is spying on its users and selling their data. That is
at least what I've read on several websites, and being proprietary software

really think it does so! Proprietary software is very bad for several other
reasons. I hope those links can give you an idea and point you in the right

Re: [Trisquel-users] Watching live streaming video without Flash

2015-05-20 Thread greatgnu
When I want to see a sportsing event (baketball) I stream it with VLC. You
need to find an address and you want to paste it in VLC (ctrl+v).

This page contains some addresses - http://iptv-zak.blogspot.it/

There are several websites like this one on the net. Problem is most
streaming addresses change in a couple of days or weeks at most. The good
thing is that those websites usually give you the latest addresses which
should work.

Say you want to stream a foosball match. You need to know on which TV channel
it is. Once you know the channel, you need to find the address of the channel
and paste it in VLC.

Example - You find Barcellona vs Juventus is on Bein 1.

You paste this address in VLC and bring the popcorn.

Is the package cpufrequtils installed by default on Trisquel 7?

Geshmy - Well, I guess Iceweasel is no more secure than Abrowser. By
default I would say Icecat is the best broz out there. I don't think Trisquel
site is vulnerable. It is a complicated matter. You shouldn't just change
your browser because of that..

Maybe try asking in IRC?

The server rejected the handshake because the client downgraded to a lower
TLS version than the server supports.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Icedove hangs (window goes gray) frequently in Trisquel 7.0

I have no idea but a quick search gave me these links:

A couple of them is talking about an alert sound that points to an
inexisting file.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1265209

Basically in few words that is this:

Hi again, all sorted. I found a known TB bug with the same problem and some
suggestions that disabling the new mail sound alert would fix it. I tried
that but it still froze. I then disabled the 'show message alert' function
(which hadn't worked anyway) and now new emails are coming in fine, no
freezing.

Re: [Trisquel-users] How to shut up Windows users

2015-07-01 Thread greatgnu
I'm not gonna click on that link. I don't care much about windo$e users. I
find them boring.

You shouldn't waste your time with those who don't care and don't listen.

I will tell you the big points you should use to educate someone you care
about to switch to the magnificent GNU OS:

- free software respects you and everyone around you. It is made by a
community for the community. Transparency.

- Free software is about freedom and social justice (instead private OSes are
about dependency and profit for the corporations)

- why pay for a backdoored OS that keeps restricting your possibilities (DRM
and malware) and sells your private info to the highest bidder?

- Why in the world should one give money to some idiot like Bill Gapes or
whatever?

-You pay for software that you cannot share with your friends and sometimes
not even use on a different hardware than the one you're on when you made the
purchase. Really? How stupid is that?

- You will not catch a virus on GNU. Your hard-drive is not gonna fragment
with usage. Your Os will be fast and smooth on day 718 as it was on day 1.

- apt update upgrade takes care of all the software on your computer.
Everything is always magically updated to the latest version.

- You pay for an antivirus that gives you a mere illusion of safety (the
windozz OS is backdoored and there is no anti-whatever for that).

- Performance on a same computer when comparing GNU and Winzozz is clearly
stellar on GNU and shitty on Winzozz (and on that ShitOS it gets worse with
time due to the registry stupid architecture, malware and fragmentation etc
etc..)

-BSOD. Need I say more? Stability and reliability.

- People install windose and all they learn about their OS is how to change
the wallpaper :P
With GNU you decide how your desktop should look like and set it exactly how
you want it.

- If you install and use GNU for some time you may actually learn something
even if you are not a programmer..

I'm sure there are more points.
Feel free to add.
cheers!

Jei: sure! But many don't have the knowledge or just don't want to take the
trouble of setting their own server. But I agree that it is the best possible
solution.
I personally trust and use riseup. But this one seems pretty decent too (the
ruggedinbox mail).

I didn't try it (yet) but this seems an easy way to set up a webmail server:
