With networking all kinds of things are happening and isolating the problem is imperative. For instance, in order for anyone to log into our UD server, running on Windows 2008 R2, they need to have a Windows user and be a member of the appropriate group(s) (those given to the dbms directory). Active Directory adds a level of abstraction, but you should be able to create a simple domain user who has access to the machine. Anyway, once the user is created and they're a member of the same group that the dbms directory gives full privileges to, then you should be able to log in to the UV account (I can in UD). When I make a telnet connection I should be able to see the UV login prompts. This is also where problems might arise; if you can't see the UV login prompts your problems are prior to the user/group and UV login issue. So, I guess my question is; can you be more specific regarding your problems? e.g. what appears, what you've tried, what were the results, etc? HTH, Bill - Original Message - *From:*

Like Bob, I had a similar problem on Windows 2003 (UV 10.2.10) and found it was permissions on the temp folder that was causing the problem. Check ENV at TCL to see if the temp folder for UV is different from the temp folder you use when logged into windows. By default Windows is C:\temp and UV is C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temp. You have got to have write access to the folder for it to work. [U2] [UV] UV ODBC Driver Install Problem {unclassified}
Morning all I am having a problem with installing the UV ODBC 10.3 client on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64-bit server. The Rocket availability matrix shows that this server version is supported by 10.3 client. I am trying to install the ODBC drivers from the UniVerse Client 10.3 CD, which has been copied onto the servers D drive, whilst logged on as a local administrator. The install completes without error and there are no related events in the application or system logs. After a server reboot, the ODBC Admin tool shows the default User DSN's UV/ODBC Sales Sample and UV/ODBC Service Sample and these are configured with the IBM UniVerse ODBC Driver. However when you try to configure them, you get pop up windows with the error messages The setup routines for the IBM UniVerse ODBC Driver ODBC driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver and Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed Component not found in the registry. Clicking on the Drivers Tab shows that only some SQL ODBC drivers are installed. I have tried re-installing the drivers to no effect. I checked the registry and the drivers are all listed, including the Microsoft drivers that should also be showing in the drivers tab of the ODBC Admin tab. However when I check the System32 folder, the uvodbc.dll driver is not there. I copied in the uvodbc.dll driver from another installation but that made no difference. I suspect it needs registering but I don't know how to do that outside of an install program. I found an email on this list from 9 Jun 09 where John Wahl had a problem with the UniAdmin tool on W2k8 server and Michael Dallaire noted he had a similar problem with the UV ODBC drivers on a 64 bit system. However, there wasn't a lot more detail. Can anyone elaborate? Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Re: [U2] [UV] UV ODBC Driver Install Problem {unclassified}
The solution is that Windows server 64-bit has 2 versions of the odbcad32.exe executable. A 64 bit version by default in the C:\Windows\System32 folder and a 32bit version in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder. If you use the one in the SysWOW64 folder, it picks up the 32 bit ODBC drivers without a problem. This is, of course, perfectly logical and understandable. *grin* My thanks to Ross Craig for the spot-on help. Re: [U2] UniVerse on Windows 2003 Server - Environment {unclassified}
Hi Mike, We run our Dev and Test UniVerse 10.2.10 servers in a virtualized environment. The ESX servers are connected to a EMC SAN via fibre channel. We have noticed a bit of slow down in the virtual servers at odd times as well. Our user load on these servers is small (10 - 15 users) but they can be running large processes during tests. The ESX servers that host the UniVerse VM also host a lot of other VMs (such as BizTalk servers, SQL servers, file and print servers and Web / share point servers). Any above-the-norm activity on any of these can cause a slow down on the other VM as resource contention kicks in. Do your virtual host servers use SAN storage? Also, what other VM are hosted on the hardware and what are their activity patterns like? I have found that if one VM is doing a lot of disk I/O, it can take the ESX server a minute or so to balance the load to give the other VM a chance. [U2] [UV] Locked License Seat {unclassified}
Hi all, I have a small problem with a license seat (42) that is being consumed by a PID (2160) according to uvlictool, but that is not showing up in PORT.STATUS or the Windows tasklist. I have tried uvlictool clean_lic -a and both kill 2160 15 and kill 2160 9 with no effect. UniVerse has been restarted several times since it started to show up and that hasn't shifted it. ANALYZE.SHM advises that there is no printer segment attached to the PID so it just seems that it is a tied up license issue. I cannot find any info on anything besides uvictool that would allow me to examine or clear the license, so before I escalate this to IBM, does anyone have any ideas? UniVerse 10.1.18 on Windows 2003 Server R2 Thanks for you help. [U2] [UV] using distributed files with multi level data files possible? {unclassified}
We have a few distributed files on UV 10.1.18 on Windows 2003 32 bit. 64 bit files would be better but I thought there were limitations in their use on a 32 bit OS, especially with DYNAMIC files? I seem to remember from the UV internals course that UV/Net can have problems accessing the file. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Wow, the 64bit is an easy solution. I tried something with either the create-file or the resize command 6 months ago and it failed with my conclusion at the time that it must not be supported on our windows 2003 platform. RE: [U2] UVODBC Account Activation {unclassified}
Hi, A clean account is almost necessary. ODBC is very picky and we found that our data was OK but that the dictionaries were full of 10 years worth of difficulties :) It was easier to create a new account, populate the VOC with file pointers to the data files but create the dictionary locally. Then we could put only the data items we wanted to expose into the dictionary. This allowed us to format data differently from what the users needed to see and ensure that clean dictionaries were presented. Firstly, do you need this file in your account? Oddly enough, most of my hard to fix problems with ODBC have been caused by the various preparation/export programs crashing on system files we've never touched. If you don't need it, delete the VOC entry. I had it crash on PTERM.FILE - a system-supplied multi-part file. Secondly, go to pickwiki, find the page on Universe, and then look at the page on ODBC. You might find it useful as it describes my tribulations with 9.6. Bear in mind that these export routines process EVERYTHING, so the entire account needs to be nice and clean, not just the files you're exporting :-( Cheers, Wol -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mac Bhyat Sent: 25 June 2008 14:44 To: u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org Subject: RE: [U2] UVODBC Account Activation Hi, I know it's a very old version of uv - maybye 9.5 or possibly even 9.4 Mac -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Anthony Youngman Sent: 25 Jun 2008 12:41 To: 'u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org' Subject: RE: [U2] UVODBC Account Activation Not that I know much about this error but ... [U2][UV] UV ODBC and SQL 2005 {unclassified}
Hi, We are looking at updating our MS SQL servers to MS SQL 2005. Currently we use UV ODBC build 7084 (Client 10.1.A) on the SQL server (Windows 2000) to connect to our UV 10.1.18 instance running on Windows 2003. Is anyone aware of any problems with the ODBC driver on the 10.1.B Client (build 7049)? Is it a better fit with SQL 2005 than the 10.1.A client or should I leave well enough alone? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
