RE: [U2] UV 10.2 issues
Gabe, We are running UV 10.2 on Win 2000 and had a customer on Win 2003. We do not use OFF to disconnect, we make the user hit the X in the upper right corner (using SB Client). We then run a script that will bypass the Close, New Session, Disconnect display. We did not receive any errors, but in UV the port would not be logged off. According to IBM this issue was related to group locks being left when logging off. Mike Mike Dallaire Mortgage Builder Software Inc. Re: [U2] UV 10.2 issues
Hi Mike, If I am understanding your email correctly, this is a VERY DANGEROUS thing to do. Using OFF (or any of the other logout commands either directly or from within the application) will close the session neatly. Simply clicking on the X at the top right of the window terminates the network connection without asking UV to shut down nicely. If you are lucky, it will catch the lost connection and tidy up. If you are unlucky, it will leave locks around and may even corrupt files. I have seen this on client sites and have had to repair damaged files that were corrupted by this sort of action. We're not talking about an odd lost record here but structural integrity probelms that effectively result in total loss of a business critical data file. RE: [U2] UV 10.2 issues
FYI, in the Release notes for 10.2.2, there are these two corrections related to locking: 8776Due to the fix for Issue 7691, locks may have been left on a dynamic file if the client timeout occurred while the program on the server was updating a dynamic file. This problem has been fixed. 9187When logging of a UniVerse telnet session, using either the QUIT or OFF commands, an application error similar to the following example occurred: Source : IBM UniVerse Category: None Event ID: 1004 Description: UniVerse error: Wait for server threads failed. Win32 error: 6. The handle is invalid.. This problem has been fixed. Note: This issue could also result in user login information being incorrectly maintained and displayed through the uvlictool and the LISTU command after the user logged off. In certain situations, a lock associated with the user might also be left behind. --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/

Mike, Are you willing to share that 'bypass' script? It would cut down the annoyance factor at one of my clients. - Chuck Mike Dallaire wrote: We then run a script that will bypass the Close, New Session, Disconnect display --- u2-users mailing list u2-users@listserver.u2ug.org To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
RE: [U2] UV 10.2 issues
Martin, We execute the off as part of the script along with an exit session so we bypass the display. So it isn't that we don't do it, bad wording on my part, we just do it a little differently. Thanks for bringing this up though. Mike Mike Dallaire Mortgage Builder Software Inc. RE: [U2] UV 10.2 issues
Chuck, No problem, here is the script we have in the client. It is executed by the basic subroutine after it. Trigger Response [script_started()] /off{enter} [exit_session(266)] Basic subroutine SUBROUTINE * INCLUDE TUBP USER.INCLUDE.H CRT CHAR(27):_m[exit_session(330)]:CHAR(27):\: RETURN END HTH, Mike Mike Dallaire Mortgage Builder Software Inc. [U2] UV 10.2 issues
A while back I mentioned some problems we had found with UV 10.2 (see below). According to IBM, 2 of these issues have been resolved and will be included in the next release of UV. Which, to my understanding, will be soon. Mike 1. When exiting out of an SBClient session by clicking on the X in the upper right corner the session will close, but the UniVerse Port is left logged in. IBM informed us there is also an issue with group locks, see excerpt below. It has come to light that there was a problem introduced in UniVerse 10.2 where if the QUIT or OFF verbs were being used, an application Error evernt was created and group locks were being left active. Do you recall if your customer appeared to be experiencing active group locks? IBM is shooting for a tentative fix date sometime this month for this issue. 2. When using callHTTP with a client side certificate the POST will Return an error because of changes in the new openssl being used.
