[Bug 45930] Re: debdiff to enable evtest
I don't think that's the reason: at least, it doesn't seem to be for me. My joystick is /dev/input/js0, I want to use that, not some event* name like evtest forces. jstest works fine, with the exception that it segfaults when it tries to print out the names of the buttons. The ioctls that fill in axmap and btnmap fill in all-zeroes. For axmap, that results in a proclamation that all the axes are named X. For btnmap, that /segfaults/, because the values are expected to be in the range [BTN_MISC, KEY_MAX], and no error-checking is done. -- jstest SEGFAULTs with usb joystick https://launchpad.net/bugs/45930 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 36036] Re: dd segfaults which it doesn't with the breezy package (on dapper)
I think the problem isn't the w_bytes. gettext should remove the %PRIuMAX and replace it by something like %llu. So w_bytes goes for the %llu and human_readable() is for %s in the string. The segfault comes because gettext doesn't replace %PRIuMAX by %llu so fprintf doesn't reconize %PRIuMAX and so he gives w_bytes to the %s, w_bytes isn't a string so it segfault. I you remove the w_bytes of course it doesn't segfault, but it doesn't realy solve the problem which is the %PRIuMAX. grep PRIuMAX * Binary file coreutils.mo matches So coreutils is the only program which has PRIuMAX in translations. If you look at the fr.po (or what ever is your local) there is some %PRIuMAX is the translation strings. I don't know how gettext works but I think the %PRIuMAX shouldn't appear in the .mo file. coreutils is the only package which has it... Does someone knows a package which has %PRIuMAX in the C code but not in the .mo file (or maybe it is removed by gettext in .pot or .po don't know) ? All I know by googling is that it seems that PRIuMAX is a special string that gettext should handle in some way. If you add #, c-format in the .po file and compile it the problem goes away because gettext does more tests and replace %PRIuMAX by something like %llu, that's the proof that %PRIuMAX shouldn't appear in .mo files. -- dd segfaults which it doesn't with the breezy package (on dapper) https://launchpad.net/bugs/36036 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have downloaded the word 97 viewer in question (e.g. from http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/corefonts/wd97vwr32.exe) and then extracted it with these commands, only slightly altered from the sourceforge version of msttcorefonts: cabextract --lowercase --directory=cab-contents wd97vwr32.exe cabextract --lowercase --directory=cab-contents cab-contents/viewer1.cab The EULA (see license.txt) states in part: --- This EULA grants you the following rights: - Installation and Use. [Bug 50387] Re: Default privacy settings don't respect privacy
A seems normal enough to me, as it's meant so friends can see whether I'm available to answer they're instant message. B... I like the bit where chat partners can see whether i'm typing anything, I do find that generally useful. Delivered notifications is also fine I guess, since my partner might be interested whether I'm getting his messages or not. The other option, the displayed notification, seems rather excessive... C, I also fail to see the rationale behind this feature of the jabber protocol. The point of the protocol is that it is universally the same, what difference does it make which client or OS I'm using? However I accept that all 5 options here are invasion of privacy, however minor, so if a high level of privacy is a target of the defaults, then all 5 options should be disabled. If, on the other hand, a target is similarity to other clients of the protocols, I guess they should be left enabled. For the record, MSN accounts in Kopete also have such privacy options. Send client information is ticked by default, and the What's this? entry recommends that it is left ticked (no reason given). Send typing notifications is also ticked by default and Expose my Jabber account to other users, also ticked by default if you have a jabber account with your account's ID entered in the associated box. -- Default privacy settings don't respect privacy https://launchpad.net/bugs/50387 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50554] removable devices should only show up on the desktop of the user who can access them
Public bug reported: Currently if you plug in a removable device it is mounted and shown on all users desktops, even though only the user who plugged it in can access the device. this breaks for example if you plug in a device before you use the switch user function and want to access the device with the new user. This bug is even worse if you work in a big multiuser environment like a ltsp setup with many thin clients and users, in the case 50 users plug in 50 devices on 50 thin clients you end up having 50 icons on the desktop (imagine a user who didnt even plug in *any* device but wants to do his work sitting in front of such a desktop :) ) ** Affects: gnome-vfs (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Martin Pitt Status: Unconfirmed ** Changed in: gnome-vfs (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged = High Assignee: (unassigned) = Martin Pitt -- removable devices should only show up on the desktop of the user who can access them https://launchpad.net/bugs/50554 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 50492] Re: hangups and flickering after update
These are actually two bugs, the update-manager cares for removal of xscreensaver on upgrades, the document https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DapperUpgrades should mention that you have to remove xscreensaver manually if you dont use the automatic upgrade process. Please file a second bug for the flickering issue that happens after you removed xscreensaver. [Bug 30499] Re: No reboot/no shutdown after upgrade
I encountered the same thing after I upgraded, but the solution for me was actually quite simple. Go to System Administration Login Window and type your password at the prompt. (alternatively, you could do a 'sudo gdmsetup' in the terminal) In the Local tab, you will probably find that under the Menu Bar section, the Show Actions Menu option is not checked. Check it, as well as Include Hostname Chooser... below it. Clicking your shutdown button in the upper right corner should now include the reboot and shut down options. -- No reboot/no shutdown after upgrade https://launchpad.net/bugs/30499 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 40125] Re: Doesn't bring the network back online when resuming from suspend / hibernate
Ealden, You didn't have the problem of this bug in the first place, just like Simon Hepburn. You both just had a misconfigured system. The rest of us have correctly configured systems, but we are having trouble with getting the network back online after resume. We need to take manual action, where NetworkManager should just take care of this without any action required. This bug is still valid and not fixed. -- Doesn't bring the network back online when resuming from suspend / hibernate https://launchpad.net/bugs/40125 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 50492] Re: hangups and flickering after update
1. This isn't a bug in the ubuntu-docs source package, so I'll open a target for upstream ubuntu-docs. (2. For what it's worth, I think that where an upgrade path is supported via the GUI update-manager and not via apt, this is a bug.) [Bug 46883] Re: No Networking after Suspend
I also had this problem. The solution was to comment out all lines in /etc/network/interfaces except the loopback interface. n-m cannot control already configured interfaces. [Bug 6367] Re: udev enumeration should use /sys/bus not /sys/devices
Two things i forgot: The T2xs i have had available for testing were T20s, T21s and T23s. All with at least 256 MB RAM, varying HDs but all with DVD-drive in the Laptops Ultrabay. I also had two Type 2631 docking stations available. All showed the same behaviour when running a 2.6.15 kernel. Stock Debian and Ubuntu 2.6.12 kernel were running fine. A 2.6.16 from ZenWalk GNU/Linux showed not the same problems but panicked on booting in the dock. The other, more important thing is that enabling/disabling the PCI Power Management Feature in the BIOS led to erratic (really unpredictable, the previous issue was predictiably switching hda, hde in alternating turns) behaviour even with the above mentioned workaround. -- udev enumeration should use /sys/bus not /sys/devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/6367 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
