[Bug 45930] Re: debdiff to enable evtest

2006-06-21 Thread Micah Cowan
I don't think that's the reason: at least, it doesn't seem to be for me.
My joystick is /dev/input/js0, I want to use that, not some event* name
like evtest forces.

jstest works fine, with the exception that it segfaults when it tries to
print out the names of the buttons.

The ioctls that fill in axmap and btnmap fill in all-zeroes. For axmap,
that results in a proclamation that all the axes are named X. For
btnmap, that /segfaults/, because the values are expected to be in the
range [BTN_MISC, KEY_MAX], and no error-checking is done.

[Bug 36036] Re: dd segfaults which it doesn't with the breezy package (on dapper)

2006-06-21 Thread Xavier Claessens
I think the problem isn't the w_bytes. gettext should remove the
%PRIuMAX and replace it by something like %llu. So w_bytes goes for the
%llu and human_readable() is for %s in the string. The segfault comes
because gettext doesn't replace %PRIuMAX by %llu so fprintf doesn't
reconize %PRIuMAX and so he gives w_bytes to the %s, w_bytes isn't a
string so it segfault. I you remove the w_bytes of course it doesn't
segfault, but it doesn't realy solve the problem which is the
%PRIuMAX.

grep PRIuMAX *
Binary file coreutils.mo matches

So coreutils is the only program which has PRIuMAX in translations. If
you look at the fr.po (or what ever is your local) there is some
%PRIuMAX is the translation strings.

I don't know how gettext works but I think the %PRIuMAX shouldn't
appear in the .mo file. coreutils is the only package which has it...
Does someone knows a package which has %PRIuMAX in the C code but not in
the .mo file (or maybe it is removed by gettext in .pot or .po don't
know) ? All I know by googling is that it seems that PRIuMAX is a
special string that gettext should handle in some way. If you add #,
c-format in the .po file and compile it the problem goes away because
gettext does more tests and replace %PRIuMAX by something like %llu,
that's the proof that %PRIuMAX shouldn't appear in .mo files.

[Bug 50529] msttcorefonts lacks the 'Tahoma' font

2006-06-21 Thread Conrad Knauer
Public bug reported:

According to http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ as of April 30, 2006
there was A long awaited overhaul. Many things are fixed, links
updated. Selects a random mirror. Uses tahoma from word 97 viewer
instead of the ie6 update so no windows license is needed.

I have downloaded the word 97 viewer in question (e.g. from
http://dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/corefonts/wd97vwr32.exe) and then
extracted it with these commands, only slightly altered from the
sourceforge version of msttcorefonts:

cabextract --lowercase --directory=cab-contents wd97vwr32.exe

cabextract --lowercase --directory=cab-contents cab-contents/viewer1.cab

The EULA (see license.txt) states in part:

---
This EULA grants you the following rights:

- Installation and Use. You may install and use an unlimited number of

copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT.

- Reproduction and Distribution. You may reproduce and distribute an

unlimited number of copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT; provided that each

copy shall be a true and complete copy, including all copyright and

trademark notices, and shall be accompanied by a copy of this EULA.
Copies

of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT may be distributed as a standalone product or

included with your own product.
---

Thus the Tahoma font, now being available from a package of nearly
identical licensing as the others, should be added back to the files
downloaded by msttcorefonts. Please set this as a whishlist type bug
if approved.

[Bug 50387] Re: Default privacy settings don't respect privacy

2006-06-21 Thread railk
A seems normal enough to me, as it's meant so friends can see whether I'm
available to answer they're instant message.
B... I like the bit where chat partners can see whether i'm typing anything, I
do find that generally useful. Delivered notifications is also fine I guess,
since my partner might be interested whether I'm getting his messages or not.
The other option, the displayed notification, seems rather excessive...
C, I also fail to see the rationale behind this feature of the jabber protocol.
The point of the protocol is that it is universally the same, what difference
does it make which client or OS I'm using?
However I accept that all 5 options here are invasion of privacy, however
minor, so if a high level of privacy is a target of the defaults, then all 5
options should be disabled. If, on the other hand, a target is similarity to
other clients of the protocols, I guess they should be left enabled.

For the record, MSN accounts in Kopete also have such privacy options.
Send client information is ticked by default, and the What's this? entry
recommends that it is left ticked (no reason given).
Send typing notifications is also ticked by default
and Expose my Jabber account to other users, also ticked by default if you
have a jabber account with your account's ID entered in the associated box.

[Bug 50536] Edimax Wireless Lan Cardbus causes system failure

2006-06-21 Thread wannabesurfer
Public bug reported:

My EW-7108PCG card is recogniced when I do a fresh installation of
Dapper, but does not connect to the internett. I am using RT2500 driver,
but the device is not correctly recogniced in Device manager.

When the card does show up in syst-admin-networking I make it default,
and configure it. I have tried static as well, but no connection. On
restart, the device is not recogniced, I can not find it in networking.
I have to take the card in and out a couple of times, then it apears
sometimes. But then when recogniced in networking, the system then start
acting wird. Most programs do not open. I have to take the card out and
restart.

If I leave the card inside during restart or when turning on the laptop,
system stalls after login and password recognition. Have to force

[Bug 50537] Zoom doesn't work in totem-xine

2006-06-21 Thread ashrack
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-xine

I recall being able to zoom in and out of a movie in totem. I think it
was using the 'R' and 'T' keys. I can't do it anymore - anyone has a
solution for this? I usually zoom in when watching widescreen movies
since I don't mind cutting off some of the sides to gain additional
height on the screen.

ps. 3 ppl have already confirmed this bug

[Bug 50538] Disks manager does not recognize format of luks encrypted partition

Hi,

I have a 2GB luks-encrypted partition on my HD, (which is handled properly with
pmount-hal when login in) but

Also, when entering an access path (to replace none) and clicking on

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 47046 ***

Thanks for your report. At present, you must reformat system partitions
(e.g. /, /boot, /usr, or /var) during installation; bug 47046 is filed
to note that the partitioner should warn you about this up-front. If you
are upgrading an existing installation, then please see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DapperUpgrades rather than using this installer.

[Bug 49171] Re: no changelogs for packages from dapper-updates

2006-06-21 Thread Munckfish
I too have had absolutely no changelogs for any updated packages in
Dapper. The updates manager briefly flashes a message saying
Downloading the list ... then the display area becomes completely
blank.

If I move to Synaptic, select one of the upgradable packages and then
click on Package (in the menu) Download Changelog, it reports Failed
to fetch the changelog.

E.g. for the update of acpi-support on Wed 21st June 06 I get the
following error msg:

Failed to fetch the changelog for acpi-support
URI was:
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/a/acpi-support/acpi-support_0.85/changelog

If I navigate to the URL above in my browser I find that acpi-
support_0.85/changelog does not exist in

2006-06-21 Thread Blue
The biggest problem of all is that it is very hard to pinpoint the
problem, as it seems that the xserver itself does not produce any error
at all when dropping the connection. Such an error could help identify
the circumstances when such a connection drop occcurs, but yet again
there is no error on the xserver side...

[Bug 40125] Re: Doesn't bring the network back online when resuming from suspend / hibernate

After a bit of googling I discovered that I need to comment out all the
entries in /etc/network/interfaces except the loopback interface for
n-m to work correctly. Have done so and n-m now finds interfaces on
resume from suspend. Would be good if the n-m install took care of this
step or at least posted a debconf warning.

[Bug 50550] Chatroom crashes Firefox

Have installed Sun JRE as linked from Synaptic.

When I visit a SigmaChat chatroom (the one in question is private, but
there is a demo at http://www.sigmachat.com/demo.html) it lets me log

I cannot find any debug information.

It is not just the one window, it is all instances of Firefox.

[Bug 50551] Alien can't install i386 rpm packages on amd64

2006-06-21 Thread forsberg
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alien

Trying to install an rpm for i386 on an amd64 ubuntu, I get the
following error:

dpkg-gencontrol: error: current build architecture amd64 does not appear
in package's list (i386)

Since the ia32-libs are installed, the application will run just fine
once it's installed. I think this is true for most i386 rpm packages
that one might want to install on the amd64 architecture.

A command line parameter for changing the architecture of the resulting
.deb would be very useful for this case.

[Bug 50554] removable devices should only show up on the desktop of the user who can access them

2006-06-21 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug reported:

Currently if you plug in a removable device it is mounted and shown on
all users desktops, even though only the user who plugged it in can
access the device. this breaks for example if you plug in a device
before you use the switch user function and want to access the device
with the new user. This bug is even worse if you work in a big multiuser
environment like a ltsp setup with many thin clients and users, in the
case 50 users plug in 50 devices on 50 thin clients you end up having 50
icons on the desktop (imagine a user who didnt even plug in *any* device
but wants to do his work sitting in front of such a desktop :) )

[Bug 50492] Re: hangups and flickering after update

These are actually two bugs, the update-manager cares for removal of

have to remove xscreensaver manually if you dont use the automatic

[Bug 30499] Re: No reboot/no shutdown after upgrade

2006-06-21 Thread brstilson
I encountered the same thing after I upgraded, but the solution for me
was actually quite simple.

Go to System Administration Login Window and type your password at
the prompt. (alternatively, you could do a 'sudo gdmsetup' in the
terminal)

In the Local tab, you will probably find that under the Menu Bar
section, the Show Actions Menu option is not checked. Check it, as
well as Include Hostname Chooser... below it. Clicking your shutdown
button in the upper right corner should now include the reboot and shut
down options.

Ealden,
You didn't have the problem of this bug in the first place, just like Simon
Hepburn. You both just had a misconfigured system. The rest of us have
correctly configured systems, but we are having trouble with getting the
network back online after resume. We need to take manual action, where
NetworkManager should just take care of this without any action required.

This bug is still valid and not fixed.

Logging in through gdm fails if group execute permission is not set for

[Bug 6367] Re: udev enumeration should use /sys/bus not /sys/devices

2006-06-21 Thread Björn Janßen
Two things i forgot:

The T2xs i have had available for testing were T20s, T21s and T23s. All
with at least 256 MB RAM, varying HDs but all with DVD-drive in the
Laptops Ultrabay. I also had two Type 2631 docking stations available.
All showed the same behaviour when running a 2.6.15 kernel. Stock Debian
and Ubuntu 2.6.12 kernel were running fine. A 2.6.16 from ZenWalk
GNU/Linux showed not the same problems but panicked on booting in the
dock.

The other, more important thing is that enabling/disabling the PCI Power
Management Feature in the BIOS led to erratic (really unpredictable, the
previous issue was predictiably switching hda, hde in alternating turns)
behaviour even with the above mentioned workaround.
