[Bug 59403] Re: g-a-i postinst fails if X is not running

2006-09-16 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
Please don't be pathetic, Lee. With the provided patch the postinst
script doesn't fail anymore. So we are talking about some warnings, that
appear if the caching app cannot connect to the given x display. These
are not nice, but I am not sure if this a bug of high priority.

No, caching on the first run is a bad idea. The first impression counts.
There is nearly no howto that describes installing an app using gnome-
app-install. The long loading time is perhaps a reason for this.

[Bug 60764] Large file transfer gives error: Corrupted MAC on input

This can be reliably reproduced.

The problem does not occur if I tranfer it by "pushing" (ie. ssh-client on

[Bug 60765] Gnome-keyring-daemon takes up 100% CPU and all memory

2006-09-16 Thread Yachar
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce :
- open gnome-keyring-manager
- create a keyring.

Alternate : open evolution and try to store passwords with gnome-
keyring.

Nothing happens, gnome-keyring-manager doesn't freeze but evolution does
(maybe not multithreaded on this task ?).

The only thing to do to avoid all resources consumption is killing
gnome-keyring-daemon.

I tried to launch gnome-keyring-daemon through gdb, with follow-fork-
mode to "child", but gnome-keyring-manager strangely complains about
keyring-daemon not being launched. Not an expert debbuger though...

Fyi, I had some gconf related problems recently (no writable paths),
fixed as far as I can tell.

[Bug 56152] Re: Applications->Add/Remove just stops when cannot get a lock

2006-09-16 Thread DannyStaple
Tested in 0.2.11 on Edgy, behaviour different now.

App will no longer close, but selection will be gone, and the list will
revert to all (where previously in a category).

In 0.2.12 (which I updated to today), the behaviour of just closing was
shown again.

I am also beginning to wander if this could present a usability issue to
those just getting started on Ubuntu.

[Bug 59403] Re: g-a-i postinst fails if X is not running

2006-09-16 Thread Lee Revell
All I do to trigger the bug is ssh -X to the machine I want to upgrade,
su, and run apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.

Are you saying this is an unsupported upgrade method?

Why can't the application continue if it can't connect to X? This
should not be a fatal error.

Also, I think it's acceptable for gnome-app-install to create the cache
the first time it is run. Subsequent startups will still be fast.
Nautilus does the same thing - the first time you open a folder of
images it takes 60 seconds to display anything while it creates
caches...

[Bug 60757] knot cd 3: can't login in console mode

Public bug reported:

Hi

I can't login into the console of knot cd 3 since it asks for the login
credentials (whereas in other cd's it didn't and started a shell with

This makes it difficult to provide debugging information for people

correctly (which is my case since I suffer:

I've tried: ubuntu/ubuntu ; ubuntu/edgy ; etc with no success. If this

some information about where to find the login details would be nice.

2006-09-16 Thread Anita
Ok, here is what I did that works.

cd ~/.local/share/
mv mime bu-mime

Try to open an existing .png and it fails
Right-click/properties/ and choose something other than Image Viewer.
It then opens. Repeat and set back to Image Viewer. It works.

The same works for .jpg and .ogg.

Download fresh .png. It opens without doing anything.

The question is: What is in ~/.local/share/mime that is causing the
problem. I assume that some of that stuff in there is useful and should
be there.

Thanks,

The Applications->Add/Remove menu is a very neat feature, but if it is

  close and just stop.

- This behaviour is safe, but it would be someone more user freindly if
+ This behaviour is safe, but it would be somewhat more user friendly if
the dialog had buttons to retest, cancel (thus not applying but keeping
the application open) and close app.

  Steps to Reproduce:
  * Leave some other application open(update window after they were applied
perhaps?)
  * Make multiple package selections (I have done this at least twice now)
  * click apply
  * Dialog will pop up. Only option is to close

[Bug 42976] Re: Xcircuit menus don't work.

2006-09-16 Thread DannyStaple
I can still see this in Dapper. My numlock key was on, and I had the
locale error in the console too. My locale is set to en_GB.

Xcircuit 3.4.21-0ubuntu1

Also seen in Edgy, on version 3.6.24-1.

Another note on this issue, is that until I new about the numlock thing,
opening the colour palette menu can be fatal. If you have numlock on,
and open the palette, no other thing in X, the whole of X can get focus,
and not knowing at that point about the numlock thing, I had to ssh from
another box and do a pkill xcircuit. As I had "ctrl-alt" keys set as
handled by a server, I couldnt even switch to a VT.

[Bug 19101] Re: [Bug 19101] Re: nautilus's clever anti-hax0r detection is really dumb

2006-09-16 Thread Anita
I moved both files to my Desktop. I rebooted and the problem remains.
I also logged in as another user and did not have the problem opening a
.png. So, it is definitely something with my user.

I did look with dpkg -S to try to determine where the files came from.
They were not a part of any package. I imagine they must come from some
change made to the nautilus preferences. I do have kde installed as well
and have never used kde with the other user that is not having this problem.

Thanks,
Anita

[Bug 39598] Re: Unable to install and then uninstall.

2006-09-16 Thread Sebastian Grössl
I had this same problem, too. After uninstall failed i wanted to know
which files could not be deleted:

$ dpkg -L firestarter
/etc/firestarter
/etc/firestarter/non-routables
/etc/init.d/firestarter

Could it be that this problem is related to the fact that firestarter
puts new files (configuration for the firewall) into /etc/firestarter.
And then the purging routine wants to recursively delete the directory
/etc/firestarter which it can't?

This would explain your success with the method above, even after
reinstallation (since no new config files were created in the meantime).

[Bug 60748] No icon in window

Public bug reported:

is that the code looks for /usr/share/pixmaps/xarchiver.png, but only

[Bug 41956] Re: system freezes, asks for authentication for local machine

2006-09-16 Thread Joachim Noreiko
As per another bug I've reported (sorry, don't have the number), I get a
Nautilus window titled "Windows Network: 192.168.0.2 on 192.168.0.2"
with no contents. There is no indication of what I have done wrong in
the Connect dialog, and 192.168.0.2 is now listed as a mounted server
even though it doesn't exist.

Going to Places->Network and browsing to Windows Network then my
powerbook (which is shown) also gets me an empty window.

[Bug 58259] Re: zd1211 no longer working (missing firmware?)

2006-09-16 Thread Michael Vogt
It looks like a copying the file from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=129083&package_id=187875
into /lib/firmware/zd1211 fixes the problem.

Those files seems to be identical to the files in
/lib/firmware/2.6.17-7-generic/zd1211* (that are already installed),
just different names.
