[Bug 41780] Re: Muse fails to start and segfaults.

2006-10-12 Thread zettberlin
Muse runs fine setuid

This is not an option, isnt it considered ucool to run big beasts like Muse
setuid??
Plus: as I said, muse runs like a charm if max-user-freq can be tweaked to
1024, I now use a rt-kernel for edgy from ubuntumusique, that is more or less
configured like the older Dapper-Kernel and again: problem solved.

So the result is:
muse does not run in edgy if an official standardkernel is being used

So I have to avoid kernel-upgrades to keep the apps functioning, because
the problem is ignored by the maintainers of the official kernel

[Bug 65769] crashed after problem with 'close multiple tabs' dialog

2006-10-12 Thread Duncan Lithgow
Public bug reported:

(X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20060601 BonEcho/2.0
(Ubuntu-edgy))

I had two tabs open, one with an mpeg clip which had finished playing (I
think in embedded vlc). I clicked to close firefox, got the window
boarder of the usual warning about closing multiple tabs - but inside
the boarder was still the still image from behind, when I moved it (a
copy of) that section of the image moved with it. I clicked to close the
whole thing and after a very short pause it crashed.

2006-10-12 Thread John Vivirito
Thanks for your report. Your idea might get more attention and have
the possibility of being implemented if you would submit a
specification for this.

You should first check whether it already exists at the Ubuntu specs
page (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+specs) in Launchpad. If
that is the case, feel free to contact the drafter of that spec about
your comments/suggestions. Otherwise you can start writing a spec
following the steps described in

[Bug 65772] Latex2html missing perl-doc depend

Public bug reported:

Subject: Latex2html missing perl-doc depend
Date: Thu, 07 Sep 2006 16:09:02 -0700
User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5.0.5 (X11/20060728)

Package: latex2html
Version: 2002-2-1-20050114-4
Severity: minor

latex2html package lists perl-doc as a suggested package and allows
installation without perl-doc. However, installed latex2html will not
run without perl-doc and issues the following error message before
exiting:

You need to install the perl-doc package to use this program.

Thus, perl-doc should likely be a depend for latex2html installation.

Severity: important

According to debian bug 381544, the ndiswrapper script in
ndiswrapper-common fails when /bin/sh points to dash.

As dash is required by ubuntu-desktop, this is a bit of a problem.

The solution is to run ndiswrapper with bash:

sudo bash -x /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper

(as pointed out by Marco Nenciarini)

The issue is resolved in debian package ndiswrapper 1.22-1 as of august
7th, and it would be really great to get it into the ubuntu packages.

[Bug 65780] VGA output jack doesn't work with Toshiba Satellite M70-CL3

2006-10-12 Thread Zack Weinberg
Public bug reported:

I cannot get the VGA output jack to work with my Toshiba laptop:

* if booted with nothing attached to the jack, the magic key combination
that's supposed to switch between sending the display to the built-in
LCD panel and sending it to the VGA port does nothing at all.

* if booted with a monitor attached to the jack, both the monitor and
the LCD panel show the boot sequence up to the point where X starts up;
then both go blank, and nothing - not the magic keystroke, not
unplugging the cable, not switching to a text console, not blindly
forcing a shutdown - will bring either back again until the next boot.
(That is, if I blindly force a restart, I don't see the shutdown splash
screen at all, but then I do get a boot screen again.)

The video chip is an ATI Radeon XPRESS 200M; I am using the free (Xorg)
drivers, not fglrx. I'll attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this bug.
Please see #64931 for lshal and lspci -v, #64927 for dmesg. Yeah, I'm
having a lot of driver issues with this laptop.

[Bug 65533] Re: dansguardian installation / configuration not user friendly

2006-10-12 Thread Computer For Families
First, I want to make sure that it is known how appreciative I am for
all of the help that I have received from towsonu2003. Second, I am a
volunteer to the Computers For Families (CFF) program www.sbcff.org , as
part of the IBM On Demand Community program, that is offering free
computers to elementary school students in order to erase the digital
divide in Santa Barbara. Last, the CFF program mission is simply a
computer for every child who can't afford one. We want to replace
Windows 2000 with Edubuntu on the donated computers, therefore, we need
to replace the Windows only content filter, that is donated by
Cybersitter, with DansGuardian.

[Bug 65764] Re: Password last-changed date displayed as epoch-1

2006-10-12 Thread Rocco Stanzione
It looks like what I'm asking for is pretty close to the intended
behavior, from userconfig.py:

if self.userobj.getLastPasswordChange()is None:
self.lastchangelabel.setText('-');

Notice the lack of a space between () and is, which looks like a
typo. If that's not the problem, it's probably one of the FIXME's in
unixauthdb.py, or a disconnect between None (the string) in
unixauthdb.py and None as it appears above.

[Bug 65784] post-install uses root-access to mysql without pass

2006-10-12 Thread Max Lindner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula-director-mysql

When I try to install bacula-director-mysql, post-install fails because
it tries to connect to the Database as root without password.

I guess this is not the way intended.

Maybe a interface to enter the root-pw of the MySQL would be better than
let the post-install fail.

Or a hint that there is a SQL file which must be 'executed' before
bacula-director is usable. I think letting post-install fail is the
worst choice.

[Bug 65551] Re: waste basket: not updated in real time

2006-10-12 Thread gerard
Thx for your answer, here are the answers to your questions.

Even worse today w/ the latest update:

I drag and drop a folder from /home/gerard (it's me!!) to the trash, and all
the icons of the Desktop disappear (including the trash).
To get them back, I need to logout/login again

Other way of doing it (w/ the same folder, same place):
1-right click on the folder, then erase (=trash icon on the pulldown menu). The
folder jumps into the basket, I checked it by opening the trash BUT the tash
icon did not change its status, looks empty.
2-select the folder, depress the delete key: same result

To answer your question, I do not use Nautilus on Xubuntu, Thunar only
which is quite good

[Bug 65782] Re: man-db provides no means for packages to index their manpages

2006-10-12 Thread Kyle H
The -f option, upon looking at the source, appears that it may do what
needs to be done. The manpage for mandb(8) states that it's only for
the use of man(1) when it discovers an out-of-date page. I am unable to
determine the code from there. If -f does indeed allow an arbitrary
manpage to be added to the index, then the documentation needs to be
updated to explain that, and (possibly) the Ubuntu (and perhaps Debian)
package standards examined for possible manpage addition requirements.

[Bug 27075] Re: kdesu hangs when password is still in sudo memory [kdesu hangs after using sudo from konsole]

2006-10-12 Thread mexlinux
I have just updated my Dapper to KDE 3.5.5 wich is announced to support sudo in
kdesu.
Kde su does not hang anymore, but it asks for password everytime (it does not
keep sudo time)

[Bug 65241] Re: Error while generating message list when accessing inbox

2006-10-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. Do you still have that issue with the current
package? A patch has been uploaded that could fix the issue

Could you post the output of executing

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

in Konsole?

[Bug 54713] Re: wrong icon used in panel

2006-10-12 Thread Richard Hughes
Ahh, but that breaks the icons used in the panel
system/preferences/powermanagement for example - the 22x22 icons are
chosen and upscaled to 24x24. Probably what has happened is there is a
bug in the menu code, and the index file has been bodged to fix the
menus.

[Bug 65716] Re: renamed topics not updated at the location bar

2006-10-12 Thread Rafał Próchniak
I reopen, because it doesn't work for me in Edgy either (epiphany
2.16.1).

Perhaps I wasn't clear with my description, so I attach screenshots of
Bookmarks editor to show what's the problem.

There are four bookmarks under portale topic. Three of them (BBC,
Gazeta and Onet) were added, when the name of the topic was news. One
(WP) was added after the topic name was changed to portale. You can
see what happens, when I enter news and portale in the search bar
(the same happens with the location bar).

[Bug 65614] Re: Evolution using too much memory won't close

2006-10-12 Thread Sebastien Bacher
what do you mean by keep posting text dumps from Evolution? If you
provided one backtrace that's enough, no need to give extra work to bug
triager, they already got load of bugs without having to get several
time mention of the same issue. -dbg and -dbgsym package do the same
job, the difference is that only some packages used to build a -dbg
where -dbgsym are made without modifying the package

Re: [Bug 62196] Re: e1000 Driver Regression: Kernel Panic on Removal

2006-10-12 Thread Andrew Spott
well... thats not a big deal

So this is a workable solution to this problem at the moment (though i'm
kind of curious what caused the e1000 module to suddenly start making the
machine crash when suspending, and why that problem hasn't been fixed)

[Bug 42217] Re: 100% cpu utilisation during DNS resolution

2006-10-12 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Robert,

Until yesterday that bug report was assigned to the mozilla-firefox
package, which hasn't been in use since Hoary. As well your initial bug
report only mention that it occurs in mozilla. I was simply trying to
figure out which application you see this problem so that we assign
this report to the correct package. Is it in Mozilla? In Firefox? In
the old Firefox from Warty/Hoary?Then me or someone else can try to
reproduce it, and possibly find if this is solved or not in the latest
versions Ubuntu ship with Edgy.
