[Bug 76395] snd-mpu401 present but no midi available

2006-12-19 Thread falcaf
Public bug reported:

Bonjour,

Here is my hardware : motherboard Asus P4S8X-X, intel pentium 4 with integrated
soundcard AD1980 and integrated gameport MPU401 compatible.
In bios, joystick port is set on 0x200 and midi port on 0x330. , irq 10
I use ubuntu 6.10
My purpose is to connect my midi keyboard to the computer.
It's not an hardware problem, when I use another distri (demudi1.2 or 1.3, I
don't remember), everything works fine, but demudi is no more supported now...

With ubuntu, the MPU device appears everywhere : in /proc/asound/cards listed
with index 1 (index 0 is for AD1980)
in lsmod (snd-mpu401), in dev/sndstat, /proc/ioports .. everytime with the
good port and good irq ; lsmod gives also snd-seq, rawmidi and the other ones

It appears in qjackctl when clicking on 'connect' and then on 'midi' : the
device is here, both in 'in' and 'out' windows, but non-connectable ; when
trying connect the device a line appears brievely between the selected devices
(mpu401 in and, for example, mx44 synthetizeur and disappears immediatly.
When trying same thing with the program aconnect, I obtain 'I/O error' (not
exactly because the error message is in french).
So I've taken an old card on another computer (ensonic, snd-ens1371) that I use
just for midi , but I have to soon put it back...

It took me a long time to make a lot of trys, without result : everything seems
ok, except midi is just not working ; I don't know if it's due to ubuntu
settings or kernel/patch  fault.
I've tried with the kernel shipped with ubuntu 6.10 (distri that I use) and
with a customed one (vanilla 2.6.19 kernel with Ingo Molnar realtime patch)
with the same result.

cordialement,

Re: [Bug 75992] Re: installer crash, WinXP corrupt

2006-12-19 Thread Antanas
Hi again,

my last expieriences:
I ran Baltix 2.0 (Ubuntu 6.06) installation again on the same machine, but
with network cable disconnected. Walla! Installation successful and dual
boot works. WinXP is alive!
I notice that on LiveCD booting Nautilus starts verrry slow (more than 15
min, I can't wait more..). Again with disconnected network cable it starts
in less than 1 minute.
As I was mentioned earlier the same problem and the same solution
(disconnect network cable) I found in the ubuntu Lithuanian forum.

Thanks

 Hello,

 thanks for replay. My answers follows.

 2006/12/17, Henrik Nilsen Omma [EMAIL PROTECTED] :

  Hi. Are you able to tell if the WinXP system has been damaged or whether
  it just does not appear in the GRUB boot menu?

 After PC's power-on routine it stops with following message:
   Searching for master boot record on IDE-0 ... OK
   Error loading operating system
 Seems as GRUB not works.

 Which version of Ubuntu
  was this?

 this is Baltix Live-Install CD (Ubuntu 6.06)

 Are you able to boot Ubuntu now?

 Only from LiveCD. From HD - no.

 can you get to the data on
  the disk from the live CD?

 Yes.

 My case isn't tragical. I have backup image. But in general it may be a
 problem.

[Bug 76396] Abiword ignores DPI setting for zooming, assumes 72 dpi (1440 dpi / 20)

2006-12-19 Thread Constantine Evans
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: abiword

Akin to bug #44672 in Evince, Abiword also ignores the system's and
user's DPI settings (Xft.dpi and xorg.conf) for purposes of zooming.
This was also discussed in bug #62347 in abiword, but was beyond the
scope of that bug.

It appears that Abiword uses a resolution of 72 dpi for zooming, which
would make sense as 72*20=1440. This should be relatively easy to fix in
the GNOME and Gtk versions - I should be able to write a patch that will
scale the given zoom by screen_dpi/72 to get the zoom that Abiword
should use.

I will report this upstream and try to fix it later.

[Bug 60991] Re: Ubuntu install window hangs on Abort the installation?

2006-12-19 Thread mwtoews
Unfortunately, my apartment in was broken into, and sadly I don't have
that iBook anymore! The best I can do is to provide details of the
hardware: 1st generation Apple iBook from December 2001, 600 MHz G3
processor, 20 GB HD (with OS 10.4 installed on HFS+; no other partitions
or special settings), 128+256 MB RAM, CD-R/DVD drive, Firewire, 2xUSB,
and an airport card.

Perhaps someone else has similar hardware? Otherwise this bug report is
of little use at the moment. I recall that is was simple to reproduce.

[Bug 76152] Re: extra VGA output on laptop

2006-12-19 Thread Anaxagold
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 36550 ***

I have tested your xorg.conf file and it is a progress. But :

- I can see my desktop background image on the 2 screens, but the
desktop (toolbars, icons ...) is displayed and active only on the builin
LCD screen

- curiously the mouse cursor can be moved on the 2 screen (Xinerama
effect). It is possible to move a windows on the 2 screens but only
partly because the mouse is uncapable to clic and catch an objet on the
extra screen.

- using the keyboard Fn+F8 to commute between the 2 screens freezes the
desktop (the mouse has lost its position).

[Bug 75570] Re: Skype not in edgy-commercial

2006-12-19 Thread Stuart Bishop
This was a report, not a question.

The issue is that people who installed Skype under dapper using the
repository and have upgraded to edgy now have a broken skype
installation. There is no migration procedure. Perhaps this is an
upgrade issue, that if skype was installed from dapper-commercial then
the external skype repository needed to be added automatically? Perhaps
a dummy package needs to be created informing users of how to upgrade
their skype installation?

[Bug 76398] Can't use maildir to retrieve mail in Evolution

2006-12-19 Thread Evan Klitzke
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce the problem:

1) Open up evolution
2) Create a new account (or edit an old one)
3) Set the Server Type in the Receiving Mail tab to Maildir-format mail
directories
4) Try to select a path

The problem here is that the dialog box is broken and wants you to
select a regular file (not a directory). If you select a bogus regular
file, then edit the gconf key and replace the bogus file with the actual
maildir, everything works correctly.

[Bug 49325] Re: Ubuntu 6.06 livecd installer damages extended partition

2006-12-19 Thread hob4bit
Yes bug still occurs with Ubuntu 6.10 livecd. It is also a bug
in Debian 3.1 installation disk.

The thing is I want to install on existing partitions. The installer
should NOT touch my partition table at all. In the pass I have used
Mandrake, SuSE and Knoppix but none of them change my
partitions.

I just fix my partitions using the partition manger 2.40 dos application.
The bug may well be in the partition tool both both Ubuntu Debian
uses. It is difficult to spot unless you display the sector/cylinders.
Most people use GUI so am not even aware of the problem.

Problem does not seem to cause trouble but its not nice for Ubuntu
installer to even touch my partition table if I want to use existing
partitions. Maybe Ubutu installer should add an option to use
existing partition and if selected shoudl not touch it.

Thanks

[Bug 68988] Re: password prompt doesn't accept @ symbol

2006-12-19 Thread Colin Watson
getty does this, so reassigning to util-linux. It appears to be
intentional, as it's documented in the man page:

   getty has several non-standard features that are useful for
   hard-wired and for dial-in lines:

   o Adapts the tty settings to parity bits and to erase,
  kill, end-of-line and uppercase characters when it reads
  a login name. The program can handle 7-bit characters
  with even, odd, none or space parity, and 8-bit charac-
  ters with no parity. The following special characters
  are recognized: @ and Control-U (kill); #, DEL and back
  space (erase); carriage return and line feed (end of
  line).

[Bug 36247] Re: Kontact sidebar with knode even if knode not installed

2006-12-19 Thread Vasilij Pupkin
Every intergrateable component (/plugin) of Kontact should be installed
not by Kontact, but by the components themselves. E.g. if you install
KNode, it installs its component into Kontact, same for KMail etc :)

It is really annoying for newbies to see a cryptic error message for
something they usually don't even know or think of something different.
A backward step for the usability.

If a Doe clicks on News (at least it is so in my russian i18n - News on
Russian), he thinks of latest news and not of newsgroups - and if he
clicks there, he doesn't get wrong (from his POV) functionality, but an
error message about something being broken.

Re: [Bug 74980] Re: The issues powernowd init script.

2006-12-19 Thread Sergii Golovatiuk
Mathew, thank you for looking into this. My machine supports ondemand
and the problem is not in powerd at all. The problem is in
use_ondemand() function

In start function you have

   if use_ondemand
   then
   log_end_msg 0
   return 0
   fi

So once use_ondemand is called

use_ondemand() {
for x in /sys/devices/system/cpu/*; do
echo -n ondemand $x/cpufreq/scaling_governor;
status=$?
if [ $status != 0 ]; then
return $status
fi
done
return 0
}

use_ondemand() returns zero since it can write into scaling_governor BUT
if use_ondemand will stop executing the script since it has return
statement. You just need to change it to if ! use_ondemand or just
remove that statement at all.

Hope this helps

[Bug 76409] rpc.gssd doesn't process -d option correctly

2006-12-19 Thread Liam Bedford
Public bug reported:

(this applies to feisty at least)

If you run rpc.gssd -d /var/run/ccache, you get an error message
about ccachedir path name too long. This is due to a bug in the
code below:
utils/gssd/gssd.c, line 121:
-   if (ccachedir[sizeof(ccachedir-1)] != '\0')
+   if (ccachedir[sizeof(ccachedir)-1] != '\0')

I don't think this is a security issue, as you can't get an arbitrary

[Bug 70018] Re: Crashed downloading a pdf with save link as...

2006-12-19 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 45008 ***

There seems to be a moderate number of reports with the same behaviour
so unless someone thinks the opposite I'm going to merge those common
reports.

The bug reports with same sythoms are: bug #45008, bug #64734, bug
#65183, bug #68168, bug #70018, bug #70185, bug #70797, bug #71033, bug
#72392, bug #72488, bug #72650, bug #73403, bug #74720, bug #75129, bug
#75835, bug #75846,

We still need more information on this bug, so please any new
comment/attach should go into bug #45008 as it might be the master bug
of this problem. Please try to follow the hints in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingFirefox it will be of great help for us
in tracking down this problem.
