[Bug 113254] 2.6.15-28 kernel kills natsemi ethernet w/o promiscuous mode

2007-05-08 Thread Nathan Walp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

When booting into linux-image-2.6.15-28-386 on a 6.06.1 LTS box, the
natsemi ethernet card refuses to see any network traffic, unless I use a
program like tcpdump and turn on promiscuous mode. If I leave tcpdump
on, I'm able to use the card as normal, but if I turn it off, it stops
functioning again. Booting with 2.6.15-27-386 works fine. Below is the
lspci -vv output for the box (when booted in -27). Let me know if there
is anything else that might prove useful in tracking this down.

do not satisfy. Screen fonts are substituted with printer fonts what
leads into dearranged layouts when printing i.e. a webpage with firefox.

[Bug 105637] Re: Network-Manager not working with madwifi

2007-05-08 Thread damagedspline
I'm still having issues, but it might be linked to the acerhk kernel
module (which is the wireless led controller).

I need to activate the led, deactivate it, rmmod ath_pci, kill
networkmanager, modprobe ath_pci, restart network manager, reactivate
the led and only then it works. btw, it networkmanager doesn't show
nearby routers unless manual connection attempt was commenced...

It might be a hardware design issue other then bug in networkmanager (beside
the non-scanning part).
(I use Fujistu-Seimens laptop branded Amilo A1650G)

[Bug 106683] Another workaround

2007-05-08 Thread Mario
Another workaround I found (other than manually partitioning or killing
processes) was to create a swap file on a connected USB disk (roughly
following instructions under To add a swap file at
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-8.0-Manual/custom-guide/s1
-swap-adding.html; I used a 640MB file, which is probably way too much).
As soon as I did that everything went smoothly, even though I started
with just 2MB free. I could provide more detailed information if
anyone's interested.

[Bug 93822] Re: Logitech Quickcam Messenger camera microphone doesn't work

2007-05-08 Thread Andrew Turner
You need to download the kernel source code, patch it using the patch
supplied here, and recompile it...search the forums for tips on how to
do this if you are interested. I have attached a 32bit compiled usb
audio module which includes patch #2 (for product id 0x08f6 - if you
have a camera with product id 08f0, then there is a compiled module
posted somewhere above) so you don't need to do any patching/compiling
yourself. Just drop it into
/lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/sound/usb/

[Bug 113259] localeconf exits if you try to select to override any of the functions

2007-05-08 Thread Narf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: localeconf

I do 'dpkg-reconfigure localeconf' to select my locales, and it gives me the
option to override the default one for some of the variables(LC_MESSAGES for
example).
However, if I select to override it - the configurator just exits without
changing anything(even no error message).

This existed since Edgy, but my computer at home was already configured, so I
didn't notice it.
I've also noticed that there are only UTF-8 locales in Feisty? I'm sorry to

crying out about local file names, if I knew where to look for
sources.
I tried looking for sources at xfce.org and g_path_is_absolute is
seen only once in mousepad/main.c version 0.2.12 from a tarball -- and
it's commented out:

/*  if  (!g_path_is_absolute(argv[1]))
filename =
g_build_filename(g_get_current_dir(), argv[1], NULL);
else */
filename = g_strdup(argv[1]);

If this is it, then my next bug would be about hard to track down
assertions in gtk.

You might be able to request a backport of the new version to previous
versions, but we don't do that stuff, and there's not really another
 option.

Sorry, but a backport to Dapper is not possible, because it hasn't all
required build dependencies. boinc_5.8.17-1 build-depends on
libcurl3-openssl-dev (= 7.15.5) but Dapper only has 7.15.1-1ubuntu2. If you
want to run BOINC 5.8 you have to upgrade your machine at least to Feisty,
for which a backport is possible and already has been requested:

[Bug 113259] Re: localeconf exits if you try to select to override any of the functions

2007-05-08 Thread Narf
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: localeconf

I do 'dpkg-reconfigure localeconf' to select my locales, and it gives me the
option to override the default one for some of the variables(LC_MESSAGES for
example).
However, if I select to override it - the configurator just exits without
changing anything(even no error message).

- This existed since Edgy, but my computer at home was already configured, so I
didn't notice it.
- I've also noticed that there are only UTF-8 locales in Feisty? I'm sorry to
say, but ... that sucks. :(

[Bug 82312] Re: [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go)

2007-05-08 Thread Loïc Martin
@ Sitsofe
I think you're doing (and have been doing) a good job - you will always have
some people overreact or not understand you, however your advice was valid and
given in a nice way.

@ Simon
We all learn by making mistakes (at the beginning). Actually, we all learn *if*
we accept we can make mistake and listen to other's advices without
overreacting you will discourage people from writing bugreports entirely.
Launchpad and bug reporting have been new to most of us at the beginning. At
the time, we also had our Sitsofe helping us like he just helped you, and
thanks to them we have learnt to use it better - that's why you too have been
able to find helpful and relevant information here.

To summarize what you can do if you happen to be in the same situation again :
open a new bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug and fill it
will all the information you got, then you can write a nice comment here I've
got a different problem but it might be related, could you please see add here
a link towards your bug report and tell me if it's a duplicate?.
Then edit your bug description with a link to this bug, explaining that it
could be related to it.

This way you don't just get help, you also will _provide_ help for the
ones with the same problem you have (many people might be affected by
the bug you encounter), because it would be hard for them to find the
solution hidden in a bug concerning another problem :)

** Summary changed:

- [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go)
+ [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go) without
UseDisplayDevice DFP

** Description changed:

+ Binary package hint: nvidia-glx
+
I have a Dell Latitude C840 with an nVidia graphics card (and the nVidia
  driver).

I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty just yesterday (28 Jan 2007). A few minor
problems with the upgrade came up and it seems like I managed to fix
them OK. I rebooted and found that my X terminal is completely blank. I
got the login-ready-sound and thought I would go on and enter my login
name and password, then the harddrive started working and the login-
sound sounded. Everything seem to work fine except I can't see a thing.

- On Edgy I had beryl installed after a few unsuccessful attempts (also
- tried compiz). I had it working well though. Perhaps this had something
- to do with it.
+ Adding
+ Option UseDisplayDevice DFP
+ to the Screen section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf solves the problem

[Bug 35638] Re: Hl-1050 is not detected properly

2007-05-08 Thread Stanley Sokolow
I have a similar problem with my Brother HL-1440 connected by USB port,
on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty). This is a recent and up-to-date clean
installation of the official release download, not an update from prior
release. At first, the printer was detected and printed a test page ok.
After some use, I started having erratic behavior of the printer.
Documents would queue but not print even though I didn't change anything
relating to the printer and the printer was still on and ready. For no
apparent reason, the printer started working again under Feisty, for a
while. Then failed to print again. The lpinfo -v output shows that
the usb printer is detected sometimes (as direct
usb://Brother/HL-1440%20series) and after repeated lpinfo executions,
the printer mysteriously disappears from the lpinfo output. When the
printer is detected by lpinfo, doing a printer properties dialog shows
the printer as a detected local printer on USB #1 and a test page prints
fine. When the printer is not detected on lpinfo, doing the printer
properties shows it as a Network Printer of type IPP Printer on Cups
server (IPP), with URI= usb://Brother/HL-1440 series and the print-
test-page sends data to the print queue but it hangs with Test Page job
status showing as printing:job-printing and printer status saying that
the printer was not ready (but it was). To force the printer to be
detected again, I can unplug and replug the USB cable to it. The lpinfo
-v shows it again, for a while, but it comes and goes and sometimes
comes back. I thought the printer's sleep mode might be causing the
driver to drop out, so to speak, but the Ready LED on the printer
doesn't seem correlated with the times when the lpinfo can't see the
printer and when it can.Once when I unpllugged and repllugged the
USB cable, while a job was hung up in the print queue (printer icon in
system tray), the stopped print job started and the test page actually
was sent to the printer and it printed. When I do lpinfo -v, the
system monitor shows 100% CPU load. top shows about 99% of the time
is in cupsd. This goes on for quite a few seconds (maybe 10 to 20)
then lpinfo produces its output. Also, when installing a printer, the
search through the printer database takes a very long time, whcih has
been reported in other bugs. Once I showed the printer properties
dialog and it said Status: Printing: No %%BoundingBox: comment in
header! and the connection tab showed that the printer had been
detected as a network printer but this time with URI= parallel:/dev/lp0.
Also, I have noticed that sometimes the lpinfo output includes direct
parallel, direct canon, and direct epson entries, but they sometimes
disappear from repeated executions of lpinfo. This erratic behavior
almost defies description. The same hardware operates perfectly when I
boot into Windows XP.

[Bug 113264] upgrading selected packages doesn't work

2007-05-08 Thread Abraham J . Palma López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

Try to upgrade only five, of let's say six upgrades avalaibles. You'd think
that is enough to take out the mark over that package you don't want to
upgrade. Actually, if you do so, and hit Upgrade, the manager will select
everything again, and won't let you upgrade until you have every package
upgrade avalaible selected.
You can do it via console: apt-get install 'package-you-want-to-upgrade', but i
think it should be done by the upgrade manager as well.

[Bug 113257] Report Needed

2007-05-08 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Baka Tamás for submitting this report.

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on
[1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during the crash
and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thanks in advance.

H. Montoliu

[Bug 111030] Re: dmraid no longer sees partitions in Feisty after upgrade from Edgy

2007-05-08 Thread Tormod Volden
swage, running sudo update-grub should normally rebuild the menu.lst with all
installed kernels. Please verify that your /etc/kernel-img.conf contains:
postinst_hook = update-grub

[Bug 96470] Re: 7.04 beta upgrade: proprietary driver in use, but not upgraded - xorg fails to start

2007-05-08 Thread Loïc Martin
I've seen reports of nvidia-glx users having their proprietary drivers
upgraded with Feisty final release.

This bug seems like a problem that only occurred during Feisty's
development. harrydb, can you confirm?

If this bug isn't updated (=other people also affected with Feisty
final), I'll close the bug in a few days (it can still be reopened), so
please let us know if the bug is still there for you :)
