[Bug 90950] Re: windows unable to access samba
Then it is not a bug in samba but in kcontrol. I close this bug. If you feel like it, fill a bug againsta kcontrol, but that would require more investing what is not working. For the behaviour of kcontrol as of now seems to me koherent, because? (from smb.conf) SECURITY = USER This is the default security setting in Samba 3.0. which means that it actually work (because if there is no security line, security = user is used). ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Rejected -- windows unable to access samba https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE: [Bug 113272] Re: own compiled programs appears as upgrading needed
oh, ok. As you say i think it's not a bug. But maybe a functionality apt should have. i mean, i need to know if there is a new version of the programs i have compiled myself. well, i don't really 'need' it, but since update manager lets you know when a new version of your installed programs has been released, it's a good idea that it does the same for every package you may have installed with dpkg. i am not a programmer but i think something like 'Check only version number' may work. Then, someone could download source code, compile, make and install the debian package of, say, version 1.0.0, without bothering at 'force version' for that package, not having the upgrade manager asking him to upgrade that package that doesn't need upgrade, and asking only when there is actually a new version number. Amazing that apt let you choose between an stable and unstable versions, but forget the packages you want to compile yourself. Probably i have mistaken putting that like a bug, but i don't know where i can ask for such functionality. - LLama Gratis a cualquier PC del Mundo. tomashnyk, I no longer have the problem, fixed by completely re-writing the smb.conf manually. So, if anyone is having this problem and is trying to use a GUI to get it to work, try just manually writing it from the original default smb.conf. note: there are several other GUI (configurators or just programs) problems with feisty...they should have waited to release it. -- windows unable to access samba https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90950 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 112383] Re: Data loss when disk full in GNOME!
I'm using Linux for about six years so I know where settings are kept, and I didn't remove them ;) Some folders in /home/user/.gnome2 became empty after disk was full surely gedit and mozilla settings. All plugins from seamonkey gone. It was very strange because I was not even using seamonkey at that time - I closed it and then afer running again there was only default settings (bookmarks were kept but all plugins were missing). Gedit kept plugins but plugins settings was gone (snippets) ... . There wasn't any information in GNOME - just data loss. Also Ardour settings gone. It was surely some problems in .gnome2 hidden folder, but not every application lost it's settings so it's really strange. I think it might be a problem when disk is full and application, for ex. seamonkey or gedit is trying to save settings but there's no space on the disk, so the old settings are removed and the new cannot be saved. If problem will not be localized I think it'll be a good idea to include in default installation some disk monitor tool. >From the syslog: May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.382000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.382000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.383000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.383000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.384000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.384000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.385000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device May 4 08:59:20 adam kernel: [73279.385000] scsi 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device There was no errors on the disk, after freeing space everything was working fine. lspci: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset Host Bridge (rev 04) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82845 845 (Brookdale) Chipset AGP Bridge (rev 04) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM USB (Hub #1) (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM USB (Hub #2) (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM USB (Hub #3) (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 42) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801CAM ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801CAM IDE U100 (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM SMBus Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] 02:00.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1520 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 01) 02:00.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1520 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 01) 02:02.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. Hi. I'm having the same problem with the fireestarter daemon failing to start on boot-up. Another solution I found in http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2513846&postcount=14 is to change the firestarter prefix in /etc/rc2.d from S20 to a slightly bigger value (in the example S22). [Bug 113383] Recommend to close: Feisty: TGIF saves zero byte XPM images
Well, I have to withdraw this one. It turns out that the observed behavior has nothing to do with the Ubuntu update procedure. The problem occurs if I don't save my tgif files in my home folder /home/mydir. If I use any subdirectory like /home/mydir/whathaveyou/whatever/, then the export does not work. I will have to figure out whether that's a bug in tgif or my setup. Since this happens on a freshly installed system, I guess it is a bug in tgif. Sorry! Re: [Bug 93413] Re: vpnc dead peer detection disconnects immediately
I vote that we implement the patch to be able to disable DPD. The patch is currently available in the repository for vpnc. I think this is the best solution. Unfortunately, as mentioned in previous posts, this breaks compatibility with the graphical tools. Personally, I think that going forward is a better step than backward. [Bug 113497] ubiquity does not generate correct menu.lst
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity I am not sure of this is a ubiquity bug or maybe a grub bug, but ill will report it here first just in case. Ok, so ever since Breezy, the ubuntu installer (ubiquity) has not generated the correct menu.lst . It has messed something up along the line, and even though i forget what it messed up in breezy and dapper, when it happened to me again in feisty i took logs of it so hopefully this can be fixed. So basically, i install ubuntu and it restarts, and when im brought to grub to select what OS to choose (ubuntu or windows) i pick the top ubuntu one and it says "not found" and then i can go back to the menu. This also happens with the "safe mode" and "memtest" options. For this instance, i had to change using grub the line that says "root: (hd0,1) " to "root: (hd0,0) or else nothing will boot. And for reference, here are my "menu.lst"'s before, just fresh after a fiesty install and after i edited it so its correct. I tried, using her account, to open a photo she downloaded and tada! it worked. And AFTER having done that, trying to open a symlinked photo worked!! The longer they wait to get the fix out, the more bad press ubuntu will get, so its in their interest to get a fix ASAP.
