[Bug 113254] 2.6.15-28 kernel kills natsemi ethernet w/o promiscuous mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15 When booting into linux-image-2.6.15-28-386 on a 6.06.1 LTS box, the natsemi ethernet card refuses to see any network traffic, unless I use a program like tcpdump and turn on promiscuous mode. If I leave tcpdump on, I'm able to use the card as normal, but if I turn it off, it stops functioning again. Booting with 2.6.15-27-386 works fine. Below is the lspci -vv output for the box (when booted in -27). [Bug 105637] Re: Network-Manager not working with madwifi
I'm still having issues, but it might be linked to the acerhk kernel module (which is the wireless led controller). [Bug 82312] Re: [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go)
@ Sitsofe I think you're doing (and have been doing) a good job - you will always have some people overreact or not understand you, however your advice was valid and given in a nice way. @ Simon We all learn by making mistakes (at the beginning). Actually, we all learn *if* we accept we can make mistake and listen to other's advices without overreacting you will discourage people from writing bugreports entirely. Launchpad and bug reporting have been new to most of us at the beginning. At the time, we also had our Sitsofe helping us like he just helped you, and thanks to them we have learnt to use it better - that's why you too have been able to find helpful and relevant information here. To summarize what you can do if you happen to be in the same situation again : open a new bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug and fill it will all the information you got, then you can write a nice comment here I've got a different problem but it might be related, could you please see add here a link towards your bug report and tell me if it's a duplicate?. Then edit your bug description with a link to this bug, explaining that it could be related to it. This way you don't just get help, you also will _provide_ help for the ones with the same problem you have (many people might be affected by the bug you encounter), because it would be hard for them to find the solution hidden in a bug concerning another problem :) ** Summary changed: - [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go) + [nvidia-glx] X is blank after upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go) without UseDisplayDevice DFP ** Description changed: + Binary package hint: nvidia-glx + I have a Dell Latitude C840 with an nVidia graphics card (and the nVidia driver). I rebooted and found that my X terminal is completely blank. I got the login-ready-sound and thought I would go on and enter my login name and password, then the harddrive started working and the login- sound sounded. Everything seem to work fine except I can't see a thing. - On Edgy I had beryl installed after a few unsuccessful attempts (also - tried compiz). I had it working well though. Perhaps this had something - to do with it. + Adding + Option UseDisplayDevice DFP + to the Screen section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf solves the problem -- [nvidia-glx] Using nvidia-glx driver, X is blank after install or upgrade (laptop/Geforce Go) without option UseDisplayDevice DFP https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/82312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 35638] Re: Hl-1050 is not detected properly
I have a similar problem with my Brother HL-1440 connected by USB port, on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty). This is a recent and up-to-date clean installation of the official release download, not an update from prior release. At first, the printer was detected and printed a test page ok. After some use, I started having erratic behavior of the printer. Documents would queue but not print even though I didn't change anything relating to the printer and the printer was still on and ready. For no apparent reason, the printer started working again under Feisty, for a while. Then failed to print again. The lpinfo -v output shows that the usb printer is detected sometimes (as direct usb://Brother/HL-1440%20series) and after repeated lpinfo executions, the printer mysteriously disappears from the lpinfo output. When the printer is detected by lpinfo, doing a printer properties dialog shows the printer as a detected local printer on USB #1 and a test page prints fine. When the printer is not detected on lpinfo, doing the printer properties shows it as a Network Printer of type IPP Printer on Cups server (IPP), with URI= usb://Brother/HL-1440 series and the print- test-page sends data to the print queue but it hangs with Test Page job status showing as printing:job-printing and printer status saying that the printer was not ready (but it was). To force the printer to be detected again, I can unplug and replug the USB cable to it. The lpinfo -v shows it again, for a while, but it comes and goes and sometimes comes back. I thought the printer's sleep mode might be causing the driver to drop out, so to speak, but the Ready LED on the printer doesn't seem correlated with the times when the lpinfo can't see the printer and when it can.Once when I unpllugged and repllugged the USB cable, while a job was hung up in the print queue (printer icon in system tray), the stopped print job started and the test page actually was sent to the printer and it printed. When I do lpinfo -v, the system monitor shows 100% CPU load. top shows about 99% of the time is in cupsd. This goes on for quite a few seconds (maybe 10 to 20) then lpinfo produces its output. Also, when installing a printer, the search through the printer database takes a very long time, whcih has been reported in other bugs. Once I showed the printer properties dialog and it said Status: Printing: No %%BoundingBox: comment in header! and the connection tab showed that the printer had been detected as a network printer but this time with URI= parallel:/dev/lp0. Also, I have noticed that sometimes the lpinfo output includes direct parallel, direct canon, and direct epson entries, but they sometimes disappear from repeated executions of lpinfo. This erratic behavior almost defies description. The same hardware operates perfectly when I boot into Windows XP. -- Hl-1050 is not detected properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/35638 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 113264] upgrading selected packages doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager Try to upgrade only five, of let's say six upgrades avalaibles. You'd think that is enough to take out the mark over that package you don't want to upgrade. Actually, if you do so, and hit Upgrade, the manager will select everything again, and won't let you upgrade until you have every package upgrade avalaible selected.
