[Bug 90950] Re: windows unable to access samba

2007-05-08 Thread TomasHnyk
Then it is not a bug in samba but in kcontrol. I close this bug. If you feel
like it, fill a bug againsta kcontrol, but that would require more investing
what is not working. For the behaviour of kcontrol as of now seems to me
koherent, because? (from smb.conf)
SECURITY = USER This is the default security setting in Samba 3.0.
which means that it actually work (because if there is no security line,
security = user is used).

RE: [Bug 113272] Re: own compiled programs appears as upgrading needed

2007-05-08 Thread Abraham J . Palma López
oh, ok. As you say i think it's not a bug. But maybe a functionality apt should
have. i mean, i need to know if there is a new version of the programs i have
compiled myself. well, i don't really 'need' it, but since update manager lets
you know when a new version of your installed programs has been released, it's
a good idea that it does the same for every package you may have installed with
dpkg.
i am not a programmer but i think something like 'Check only version number'
may work.
Then, someone could download source code, compile, make and install the
debian package of, say, version 1.0.0, without bothering at 'force version' for
that package, not having the upgrade manager asking him to upgrade that package
that doesn't need upgrade, and asking only when there is actually a new version
number. Amazing that apt let you choose between an stable and unstable
versions, but forget the packages you want to compile yourself.

Probably i have mistaken putting that like a bug, but i don't know where i
can ask for such functionality.

[Bug 73429] Re: /usr/local/lib is not properly supported

2007-05-08 Thread Kjmph
I concur. Using Feisty Fawn, /usr/local/lib is still not a part of the
ld.so.cache.

Usual Linux semantics is the distro packages go into /usr/lib while
third party builds go in /usr/local/lib.

Creating and adding /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf and
rerunning ldconfig will solve this problem, but this isn't setup by
default.

[Bug 90950] Re: windows unable to access samba

2007-05-08 Thread SolidSource
tomashnyk,

I no longer have the problem, fixed by completely re-writing the
smb.conf manually. I believe the problem falls with the GUI configurures
- so as I am using kubuntu - the samba configurator of kcontrol doesn't
seem to work correctly anymore which it did work in edgy... to a point.

So, if anyone is having this problem and is trying to use a GUI to get
it to work, try just manually writing it from the original default
smb.conf.

note: there are several other GUI (configurators or just programs)
problems with feisty...they should have waited to release it.

[Bug 63418] Re: CPU soft lockup during boot if ipw3945 kill switch is on

2007-05-08 Thread balak
Hi All,

I am seeing the same issue on ubuntu Feisty Fawn on my averatec 2150. It has a
wireless on/off button and if I turn it off by mistake, the computer doesn't
boot. This laptop does not have the intel wireless card - it is a "RaLink Mini
PCI wireless built in IEEE 802.11b/g" according to this page:
http://www.tux.org/~gkwms/av2150.htm
Should I file a separate bug (since the wireless card is different ?) or will
it be contained in the same bug

I am running kernel 2.6.17 (amd64).

Once this started, I am having trouble booting up even with the wireless
on.

thanks!

[Bug 112383] Re: Data loss when disk full in GNOME!

2007-05-08 Thread dunDer
I'm using Linux for about six years so I know where settings are kept, and I
didn't remove them ;)
Some folders in /home/user/.gnome2 became empty after disk was full surely
gedit and mozilla settings. All plugins from seamonkey gone. It was very
strange because I was not even using seamonkey at that time - I closed it and
then afer running again there was only default settings (bookmarks were kept
but all plugins were missing). Gedit kept plugins but plugins settings was gone
(snippets) ... . There wasn't any information in GNOME - just data loss. Also
Ardour settings gone. It was surely some problems in .gnome2 hidden folder, but
not every application lost it's settings so it's really strange. I think it
might be a problem when disk is full and application, for ex. seamonkey or
gedit is trying to save settings but there's no space on the disk, so the old
settings are removed and the new cannot be saved. If problem will not be
localized I think it'll be a good idea to include in default installation some
disk monitor tool.

[Bug 112924] Re: Firestarter deamon doesn't start on boot

2007-05-08 Thread RichardOs
Hi.

I'm having the same problem with the fireestarter daemon failing to
start on boot-up.

Another solution I found in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2513846&postcount=14 is to change
the firestarter prefix in /etc/rc2.d from S20 to a slightly bigger value
(in the example S22).

This seems to permit the firestarter service to start normally.

Well, until you or someone reproduce this bug and provide the

[Bug 113383] Recommend to close: Feisty: TGIF saves zero byte XPM images

2007-05-08 Thread Bernhard Hailer
Well,

I have to withdraw this one. It turns out that the observed behavior has
nothing to do with the Ubuntu update procedure. The problem occurs if I
don't save my tgif files in my home folder /home/mydir. If I use any
subdirectory like /home/mydir/whathaveyou/whatever/, then the export
does not work. I will have to figure out whether that's a bug in tgif or
my setup. Since this happens on a freshly installed system, I guess it
is a bug in tgif.

Sorry!
Bernhard

No, that is a completely different bug. That bug only happens when you
use scim in an application linked to libstdc++5, such as the official
firefox binary from mozilla.org, or acroread from adobe.com.

That problem is reported in Ubuntu as well, for example bug #39026.

As said, this option doesn't guarantee to fix symbol collision. And
Debian/Ubuntu doesn't use it.

Re: [Bug 93413] Re: vpnc dead peer detection disconnects immediately

2007-05-08 Thread DevenPhillips
I vote that we implement the patch to be able to disable DPD. The patch is
currently available in the repository for vpnc. I think this is the best
solution. Unfortunately, as mentioned in previous posts, this breaks
compatibility with the graphical tools. Personally, I think that going
forward is a better step than backward.

[Bug 111030] Re: dmraid no longer sees partitions in Feisty after upgrade from Edgy

I appreciate all the comments. Thank You.

#cat /etc/kernel-img.conf
do_symlinks = yes
relative_links = yes
do_bootloader = no
do_bootfloppy = no
do_initrd = yes
link_in_boot = no

My system is pretty clean, recent (march 2007) install of edgy, so I'm not sure
why that file didn't have the "postinst_hook" line. Should I add it now?
yes, I have a dual boot, so I need the dmraid.

[Bug 38281] Re: Cannot start a fullscreen VNC session

2007-05-08 Thread John Pye
This bug is still present in Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty.

The error message is as shown in the screenshot originally posted.

I was connected to a Win2k machine via an SSH tunnel to an intermediate
FC5 machine.

vncviewer --version
VNC viewer version 3.3.7 - built Mar 8 2007 21:56:52

tsclient --version
  Terminal Server Client for GNOME

In Win2k, I have the current TightVNC installed, although I'm not sure
if that's the problem.

[Bug 113497] ubiquity does not generate correct menu.lst

2007-05-08 Thread Polygon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I am not sure of this is a ubiquity bug or maybe a grub bug, but ill
will report it here first just in case.

Ok, so ever since Breezy, the ubuntu installer (ubiquity) has not
generated the correct menu.lst . It has messed something up along the
line, and even though i forget what it messed up in breezy and dapper,
when it happened to me again in feisty i took logs of it so hopefully
this can be fixed.

So basically, i install ubuntu and it restarts, and when im brought to
grub to select what OS to choose (ubuntu or windows) i pick the top
ubuntu one and it says "not found" and then i can go back to the menu.
This also happens with the "safe mode" and "memtest" options.

For this instance, i had to change using grub the line that says "root:
(hd0,1) " to "root: (hd0,0) or else nothing will boot.

And for reference, here are my "menu.lst"'s before, just fresh after a
fiesty install and after i edited it so its correct. (these two files
are attached)

[Bug 113407] Re: The program 'gimp-remote' received an X Window System error

2007-05-08 Thread Cyril Adrian
More info:

The problem seems only to happen to a newly started machine, when my
girlfriend tries to access a photo via a symlink to my account (photos
are stored on my account using my user rights set to 755).

I tried, using her account, to open a photo she downloaded and tada! it
worked. And AFTER having done that, trying to open a symlinked photo
worked!!

It also happens with my account using the test case above (I can
reproduce it any time) and with any photo, mine or hers, symlinked or
not.

I really don't understand. Any tip on how to catch that bug would be
welcome.

Thanks

Cyril

[Bug 107976] Re: feisty crashes on boot, "/" system disk does not exist

2007-05-08 Thread Valerio F. Laube
> So you typed (/dev/hda1), instead of (hd0) in the advanced options during

- I have type (hd0,0), but /dev/hda1 also should work. This will install Grub
in bootsector of /dev/hda1.
But remember, in this case you must have another boot manager installed. I have
Xosl. Or maybe you can make a floppy for booting Ubuntu in /dev/hda1.

> so i should install feisty on /dev/hda1 not on /dev/hda2 because that causes

The system should work installed in any partition, with Grub in MBR or in
bootsector. But I only could boot Ubuntu Feisty when it was installed on
/dev/hda as primary partition and Grub installed entirely in bootsector of the
same partition.
I don't understand why. This is not the normal behavior.

Seems that have a new kernel in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/2.6.20-15.27.
Maybe, we can wait for an version 7.04-1 with this new kernel ? There are so
many Ubuntu users and others trying Ubuntu who can't install Feisty.

If you don't know how to apply a patch, you should probably wait for the
patched kernel to appear in the repositories, then use the standard ubuntu
update tools such as apt, synaptic or adept to retrieve and install the new
kernel. If this patch is an *official* ubuntu kernel team patch, or is
accepted by the team, then it shouldn't take long to get posted. The longer
they wait to get the fix out, the more bad press ubuntu will get, so its in
their interest to get a fix ASAP. Sorry, can't help you with the specifics of
applying the patch, since I haven't tried patching/building a new kernel in
linux.

[Bug 113492] beryl crashed during light usage load

2007-05-08 Thread anoni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: beryl-core

I'm not really sure what event caused the beryl crash, but can say that
i have the nvidia 9755 beta driver installed on a core2 duo nvidia 980i
motherboard (iirc) having 2 gig ram and a geforce 8800 (hence the beta
driver need).

this latest version of beryl has not shown any problems since doing the
adept update to the 0.2.1 version before this crash. oddly enough, the
visual effects enabled by cursor/mouse actions are still working. just
the app represented in the tray has core'd. sorry for not providing
more technical info. i'm new to kubuntu but an old school unix guy ;-).

[Bug 113493] Gnome weather report doesn't search for next location entry

2007-05-08 Thread Kjmph
Public bug reported:

(Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04)

The problem is that the search bar for the weather app doesn't search
for next entries which match.

If you go to preferences for the weather app in the gnome panel and
click the location tab there is a "find" text area on the bottom. To
reproduce this type in Santa Barbara and then "Santa Barbara Zulia" in
Venezuela is selected. However, find next is grayed out. This obscures
the fact that there is a Santa Barbara, CA, USA location further down
the list.

** Affects: Ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 89602] Re: gimp crashes

2007-05-08 Thread Matthew Koyle
This was a problem resulting from a partial upgrade to feisty (before
release) and, as I recall, was a result of a dependency not requiring
the appropriate version of a required library. I am marking it as
rejected so people don't need to worry about it any more.

** Changed in: gimp (Ubuntu)
   Status: Needs Info => Rejected

I would also like to see this fixed, if indeed it is specific to Ubuntu.
I haven't searched this out to see if its by design or not.

[Bug 113488] Text gets excessively spaced

2007-05-08 Thread dhcolesj
Public bug reported:

When viewing various modules in BibleTime 1.6.2 in Fiesty Fawn, some
lines will space the words out so far that an excessive amount of
scrolling is necessary to see the word.

There are no other steps than to use the modules, (Bibles, Books,
Devotionals, Commentaries, and Lexicons) all of them appear affected at
various times, depending on the size of the window, and where you are.
