[Bug 185787] [NEW] [Hardy] gnome-localization-properties is completely broken

2008-01-24 Thread Caleb
Public bug reported:

gnome-localization-properties (SystemPreferencesLanguage and
Location), as installed in Hardy, doesn't actually do anything... the
buttons don't work, and there seems to be a missing list of regions
somewhere. I'm attaching a screenshot of it.

[Bug 111771] Ditto.

2008-01-24 Thread Dan Lenski
I have the same problem here. Sometimes seahorse crashes, and then ssh
seems not to work. My workaround is to blank out the ssh-agent
variables on the command line:

$ SSH_AGENT_PID= SSH_AUTH_SOCK= ssh wherever

It's a really frustrating bug, because ssh doesn't work and gives no
indication why unless you do ssh -v. Otherwise it just waits forever.
I wish there was a way to tell GNOME that seahorse has crashed, and to
restart it and update the environment variables for new shells.

[Bug 145747] Re: Sound system locks up

2008-01-24 Thread Derek
Fixed in Hardy, upgraded mom's machine, everything is fine. Well, the hardy
update was a little rocky, but she rebooted ok.
FYI, aforementioned local laptop was failing to boot 2.6.24 - 2.6.22 booted
fine.
... then again, the local laptop was also freezing without acpi=off soo, not
best case for comparing. Damn Gateway MX3412.

[Bug 185791] [NEW] Ristretto not opening files

2008-01-24 Thread Sean Collins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ristretto

First saw ristretto in the list for update-manager this morning. Thought
it looked interesting, so tried it. The File..Open chooser showed
folders enabled (could be opened), but all files disabled (could not be
opened). Closed and restarted ristretto (from command line) several
times. Could not open files - chooser showed all files greyed out.

Tried right-clicking the file chooser to enable Show hidden files,
same result, all files greyed out. On next start of ristretto, I could
open files. I believe (can't remember exactly) that disabling show
hidden files got me back to the all files greyed out state. Last time
it showed the file chooser with all files greyed out, I used the
File..Recently used menu to re-open one of the files that I couldn't
open via the File chooser. Since I used the Recently used menu, I
haven't been able to recreate the problem - it always shows files
enabled for opening in the file chooser.

[Bug 185789] [NEW] Installation in the wrong folder

2008-01-24 Thread Jithendra
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 141048 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141048

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-extension-gwget

The epiphany-gwget-extension is getting installed in the wrong folder.
I've epiphany Web Browser 2.20.1 and the extension is getting installed
in the /usr/lib/epiphany/2.19/extensions folder. Since epiphany is off
version 2.20.1 it looks for all extensions in the 2.20 folder instead.
Manually copying the extension files to the 2.20/extensions folder,
shows the extension in the list of loaded extensions.

The extension works as expected but the problem is only with the
installation. I tried downloading a couple of files and gwget is
activated and downloads the files.

[Bug 178895] Re: Audacity does not mesh with PulseAudio

2008-01-24 Thread Michael Chang
At the following page, it's recommended to stop pulseaudio entirely when
running audacity...
http://www.pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup#Audacity

As far as I can tell, in Gutsy, Audacity uses PortAudio as its audio
subsystem, and right now PortAudio doesn't appear to support PulseAudio
as a backend. Apparently, somebody started work on such a backend
(https://tango.0pointer.de/pipermail/pulseaudio-
discuss/2007-November/000890.html) but it's not in active development.

Personally, I've also found that recording from audacity launched via
padsp causes crashes on my system when I record audio (although not when
I play audio). While I think configuration might be a factor, the fact
that few people have been recommending the use of padsp and audacity
makes me think that it's not a supported configuration for one reason or
another.

[Bug 153676] Re: full-screen windows sometimes hide windows that should be above them

2008-01-24 Thread Bogdan Butnaru
You have to download the source to compiz, make a small change, compile
and install it.

To download:
$ apt-get source compiz

The change: Find in the file src/window.c these lines:

  if (stackingMode != CompStackingUpdateModeNone)
{
 Bool aboveFs;
 aboveFs = (stackingMode == CompStackingUpdateModeAboveFullscreen);
 mask |= addWindowStackChanges (w, xwc, findSiblingBelow (w, aboveFs));
}

And change the line that starts with aboveFs to:

 aboveFs = (stackingMode == CompStackingUpdateModeAboveFullscreen) ||
(stackingMode == CompStackingUpdateModeInitialMap);

Then you need to compile it:

$ sudo apt-get build-dep compiz
$ ./configure
$ make

(You need to be in the root directory of the package, which gets
created by apt-get source in the first step. It's the one above the
src directory. If you compile it several times, you don't need to run
the first command each time; once is enough.)

Then you need to install it, which is actually the most annoying part.
You just run

$ sudo make install

and it puts the new compiz in /usr/local/bin. That's easy enough, but
you have to modify the /usr/bin/compiz file, which is a script, to run
yours instead of Ubuntu's. If you know a tiny bit of scripting it's easy
though. The annoying thing is that on every update of compiz the file
gets re-written. I just keep a copy somewhere and replace it when that
happens, but I'm sure there must be a better way...

(Note that in the package installed by Ubuntu the executable is called
compiz.real, and compiz is a script that runs it with some
arguments. The compiled one has the executable called compiz and no
script (that I can see). I suppose you could play with the ./configure
script, if you're so inclined.)

[Bug 184686] Re: When compiz is enabled, videos and visualizations don't work properly

2008-01-24 Thread Travis Watkins
The problem is in the Intel driver. I'm not sure how Fedora could not
have this problem as it requires using EXA (to get textured Xv output)
for video and someone to implement redirected direct rendering for
OpenGL.

We will, however, most likely have a partial workaround for this in
compiz for hardy. It won't make transparent video work but the rest
should. It'll be a huge hack though so the driver should still be fixed.

I cannot anything else:
- change hostname - I accept and close, no change no error
- add DNS server, close, no change no error
- add host, close, no change no error
However:
- I enabled my wireless card, changed roaming to static WEP, entered some
random data for essid, key,... - after I clicked ok, the wireless connection
got broken for about a second and then connected straight back to the router
with usual WPA2 roaming mode settings. I got the same permission error and
roaming mode was back in the settings dialog.

[Bug 185798] [NEW] Dolphin servicemenus creation

2008-01-24 Thread EagleScreen
Public bug reported:

One proposition for Kubuntu Catchup:
Create manually servicemenus (actions) for Dolphin is not user-friendly.
Ubuntu has nautilus-actions for its file manager Nautilus to doing this
user-friendly.
I suggest the creation of an application as like as nautilus-actions for
Kubuntu (KDE/Qt), to create customized servicemenus (actions) for Dolphin on an
easy way.

[Bug 163309] Re: [wish] support for Epson Stylus DX-4050 scanner

2008-01-24 Thread Nate
I can confirm that this problem also occurs with the Epson Stylus Photo
RX595 all-in-one.

In my case, lsusb gave:

Bus 004 Device 007: ID 04b8:083c Seiko Epson Corp.

So, the magic line in /etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules was:

# Epson RX595
SYSFS{idVendor}==04b8, SYSFS{idProduct}==083c, MODE=664, GROUP=scanner

Scanning now works perfectly, though sane detects the scanner as
something else

$ scanimage -L
device `epkowa:libusb:004:007' is a Epson PM-A840 flatbed scanner

[Bug 185803] [NEW] New Printer dialog box contains grammatical error

2008-01-24 Thread Kevin McDonald
Public bug reported:

This is minor, but in Ubuntu Gutsy (possibly previous version, I don't
know), the New Printer dialog box contains the following incorrect
text under the Provide PPD file section:

PostScript Printer Description (PPD) files *can often found* on the
driver disk...

The marked section should read, can often *be* found.

Obviously this is not a show stopper, but possibly it is something
fairly easy to repair.

Yes, I can see where you're coming from here, but, seeing as neither is
incorrect, I think that it's fine, and you can change it if you want
to.

[Bug 185805] [NEW] Need a way to list high urgency updates only

2008-01-24 Thread Kent Tong
Public bug reported:

This is a very serious issue for anyone deploying Ubuntu in an enterprise
environment.
We keep track of available updates to our Ubuntu LTS 6.0.6 servers using
apt-get -s upgrade with the feeds from the dapper-updates dist and
dapper-security dist. However, we're getting frequently many updates from the
former and most of which are non-critical ones (here is an example:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/dapper/+source/linux-meta/2.6.15.51).

Is it possible to somehow only list those with a high urgency? I can't
just remove the ubuntu-updates URL from the source list as it could
contain both critical and non-critical updates.

[Bug 185804] [NEW] [needs-packaging] BadRAM Linux Kernel Patch

2008-01-24 Thread gQuigs
Public bug reported:

This is a packaging request for the BadRAM Linux Kernel patch available
for free under the GPL here: http://rick.vanrein.org/linux/badram/

About BadRAM
My objective is to patch the Linux kernel in such a way that it can handle
defective RAM modules. With defective RAM, I mean RAM which has some bits wrong
at some (known) addresses. Normally, such RAM is considered useless and thrown
away; the larger RAMs get, the higher the chances of failing addresses. With
ever growing RAM sizes, it would therefore be pleasant to have an alternative
to discarding of defective RAM chips.

Instead of requesting this patch be added to the default linux kernel
which has been invalidated in many bug reports in the past, this is a
request for the patch to be packaged. Perhaps it could be packaged
similar to *-kernel-source, linux-patch-*, or kernel-patch-*.

[Bug 185629] Re: window manager crash nonload programs

2008-01-24 Thread Susan Cragin
Re-install fixed crashes in Firefox, oddness in windows, etc. Still
sometimes have odd delays, but I don't think this bug report will
contribute anything that issue.

The only thing re-installation didn't fix was the running program icon issue
for Dragon NaturallySpeaking running with wine.
The error message I got when trying to load Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.0 with
WINE was:
Window Manager Warning: Invalid WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0x2e3 specified for
0x2e5 (DragonBar)
However, I did load Skype's linux version, and the running-program icon works
for that. The problem may be with WINE.

Perhaps you should close this bug out.
