[Bug 207437] [NEW] Hildon only: Cheese crashes when using menu items About, Quit
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cheese When running Cheese on the hildon desktop, choosing either of the two menu items Quit or About will cause the program to crash. Quit crashes with a SIGABRT, and About with a SIGSEGV (see attached debug output). Note that in the case of Quit, the error does not occur when quitting Cheese by tapping the hildon desktop "X"; in this case the program exits normally. I'm using Cheese version 2.22.0-0ubuntu2, on a device running UME. NOTE: This bug applies *only* to Cheese running in hildon mode. The corresponding menu items work without error when running Cheese on the desktop. I'll attach some debug output. I haven't had a chance yet to investigate this further. ** Affects: acton Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: cheese (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ume -- Hildon only: Cheese crashes when using menu items About, Quit https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207437 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 207445] [NEW] Adept dist-update error window is too small
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: adept If the filename in an error message is longer than the width of the error window, the filename is truncated and other elements of the window are placed beyond the right edge of the window (including the Close button). There is no scroll bar or other indication that the window should be made wider. This was encountered while upgrading from Kubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 beta. [Bug 207441] [NEW] Hardy Beta - smbfs/cifs issues
Public bug reported: "smbfs" is not installed by default, which it probably should be if this is to be used in the enterprise. Or is there an alternative, as I have been using "smbfs" for a few releases now and am not sure if how to mount SMB shares has changed for Hardy. I installed smbfs, and then put some entries into /etc/fstab, so they automount on startup. On startup, for each entry in the /etc/fstab file, I get the following in dmesg: [ 70.495504] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4 socket. Aborting operation [ 70.495569] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -101 But the shares are mounted, and a nautilus session opens up (which is also annoying...) Also logging off with CIFS shares mounted in /etc/fstab, it sits with an error message, and does not shutdown or restart. This also happened with Gutsy, and was fixed using a script I found on the Ubuntu Forums. Is there an alternative way to mount the shares so that this doesn't happen, or should the timing of the mounting and dismounting be changed so that it works? I think it is related to the starting of network- manager and CIFS shares trying to connect on startup *before* the network is up, and dismounting the shares *after* network-manager is stopped. I'm looking back through these old reports to see if I can close them or get them closer to being fixed, and it's crazy how many I'm finding that have no replies of any sort. It's only about 6% that seem to be left behind, but then you have tens of thousands of bugs, that ends up being a lot. I would like to think that the Bug Control team is doing a better job these days, with more help and experience. Of course, it's hard to tell. I'm thinking that it's a bit out of control, though. -- there was some problems at the end of installation process, installer wasn't be able to install grub https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 190934] Re: [hardy] keyboard modifiers randomly forgotten
normally, xev only logs key press events when you actually press a key. but when the modifiers stop working it sees a continuous stream of key press/key release events. following is a sample key press/key release/key press sequence from xev when the modifier keys stop working. KeyPress event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x3a1, root 0x5a, subw 0x0, time 28763460, (171,-12), root:(1529,853), state 0x0, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x3a1, root 0x5a, subw 0x0, time 28763494, (171,-12), root:(1529,853), state 0x100, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x3a1, root 0x5a, subw 0x0, time 28763494, (171,-12), root:(1529,853), state 0x100, keycode 101 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False you can see that the second keypress event shown has the same timestamp as the previous keyrelease event. this is the same for all the ones i looked at. so perhaps this phantom key press/release could be preventing key modifiers from working properly, eg you press shift, but then this phantom keypress occurs before you get a chance to press the i key, so the shift is cancelled and the i comes out lowercase. -- [hardy] keyboard modifiers randomly forgotten https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/190934 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 207409] Re: [HARDY] xserver-xorg does not auto-configure correctly

[Bug 201887] Re: Slim USB Apple Keyboard not working correctly..
This patch solved my problem with wrongly mapped keys. I am no kernel-hacker, but it also seems odd that locale specific mappings are done in the kernel anyway. This is my first official kernel-patch, so I have no clue of what to do to get it merged in the Ubuntu kernel? Eric, I managed to compile a kernel with your patch applied and it solved the "virtual keypad" problem for me. I hope you will be successful in getting it applied to Ubuntu kernel. Mario, I managed to change the pb_fnmode to 2 and it solved the 'fn' key problem for me. The other behavior might be default for Mac users, but I am not a Mac user. I just bought this nice keyboard for my PC, so it seems very odd to me that 'F*' keys must be so difficult to use. Well, that's _very_ strange. I've patched event.c, so that it tests each loaded event against "button/lid" and outputs the event in case it matches: diff -u acpid-1.0.4/event.c acpid-1.0.4/event.c --- acpid-1.0.4/event.c +++ acpid-1.0.4/event.c @@ -283,6 +283,11 @@ fclose(fp); return NULL; } +if (!regexec(r->event, "button/lid LID 0080 000f", 0, NULL, 0)) { +printf("EVENT: '%s'\n", val); +printf("MATCH!\n"); +} + } else if (!strcasecmp(key, "action")) { if (check_escapes(val) < 0) { acpid_log("ERR: can't load file %s\n", file); Then compiled it just using "make" and started it in debug mode ("./acpid -d") and part of the output confirmed the match: [Wed Mar 26 23:48:50 2008] DBG: parsing conf file /etc/acpi/events/lidbtn EVENT: 'button[ /]lid' MATCH! Does it work for you if you use "event=button[/ ]lid" (changing the order of space and slash)? Another possibility would be to try "event=button[/[:space:]]lid". btw: "sudo invoke-rc.d acpid restart" should be enough to reload acpid. ** Changed in: acpi-support (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Daniel Hahler (blueyed) Status: New => Incomplete -- lid event not recognized by acpi event rules https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163265 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 205079] Re: kubuntu Hardy Heron could not install libc6
Addition to previous post: I checked term.log _before_ I clicked close, it was zero length then as well. Richard's workaround worked fine. Even after closing the update-manager, warnings about packages not installed due to failed dependencies kept coming up until I killed the corresponding python processes. Then everything worked fine, except for the -386 kernel waiting for the root filesystem indefinitely. -generic worked, and this is probably unrelated. So, here's a short wrap-up of the workaround process, starting from when you get the offending message (preceding # means no shell input): #close the error window; click the close button on the update-manager window and confirm. more error windows might pop up ps ax#show all processes #there will be one or more "python /tmp/*"-like processes. kill all of them. cd /var/cache/apt/archives sudo dpkg -i libgcc1_* libc6_* sudo dpkg -i debconf* liblocale-gettext-perl_* perl-base_* apt-get -f install kdesu "adept_manager --dist-upgrade-devel" # wait for it to finish, reboot when requested, wait for fsck and automatic second reboot, enjoy 8.04! # if needed choose "generic" kernel -- kubuntu Hardy Heron could not install libc6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/205079 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
