[Bug 33649] Re: root raid installs have bad grub config

2008-07-28 Thread tricky1
It is very disappointing to see that all alfas of intrepid still have
that problem. I wonder how this deeply rooted bug shall be corrected in
the few weeks remaining if currently nothing seems to be done in that
direction?

Upstream rc8 changelog:

2008.06.11 -- Version 2.1_rc8

* Added client authentication and packet filtering capability
to management interface. In addition, allow OpenVPN plugins
to take advantage of deferred authentication and packet
  filtering capability.

* Added support for client-side connection profiles.

* Fixed unbounded memory growth bug in environmental variable
code that could have caused long-running OpenVPN sessions
with many TLS renegotiations to incrementally
  increase memory usage over time.

* Windows release now packages openssl-0.9.8h.

* Build system changes -- allow building on Windows using
  autoconf/automake scripts (Alon Bar-Lev).

* Changes to Windows build system to make it easier to do
partial builds, with a reduced set of prerequisites,
where only a subset of OpenVPN installer
components are built. See ./domake-win comments.

* Cleanup IP address for persistence interfaces for tap and also
  using ifconfig, gentoo#209055 (Alon Bar-Lev).

* Fall back to old version of extract_x509_field for OpenSSL 0.9.6.

* Clarified tcp-queue-limit man page entry (Matti Linnanvuori).

* Added new OpenVPN icon and installer graphic.

* Minor pkitool changes.

* Added --pkcs11-id-management option, which will cause OpenVPN to
query the management interface via the new NEED-STR asynchronous
notification query to get additional PKCS#11 options (Alon Bar-Lev).

* Added NEED-STR management interface asynchronous query and
needstr management interface command to respond to the query
  (Alon Bar-Lev).

* Added Dragonfly BSD support (Francis-Gudin).

* Quote device names before passing to up/down script (Josh Cepek).

* Bracketed struct openvpn_pktinfo with #pragma pack(1) to
prevent structure padding from causing an incorrect length
to be returned by sizeof (struct openvpn_pktinfo) on 64-bit
  platforms.

* On systems that support res_init, always call it
before calling gethostbyname to ensure that
  resolver configuration state is current.

* Added NTLMv2 proxy support (Miroslav Zajic).

* Fixed an issue in extract_x509_field_ssl where the extraction
would fail on the first field of the subject name, such as
the common name in: /CN=foo/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Made Linux ip addr del failed error nonfatal.

* Amplified --client-cert-not-required warning.

* Added #pragma pack to proto.h.

[Bug 252617] [NEW] Installing MySQL-Server in chroot

2008-07-28 Thread André Herrmann
Public bug reported:

This happens, if I preinstall mysql-server on a customized live cd. In
this case the problem occcured by using the reconstructor tool. In UCK
its the same problem.

The Problem is partly discussed on the launchpad site of Ubuntu
Customization Kit

The error occurs at first inside chroot. There mysql-server cannot start
service. With a little fix package it is possible continuing the build
anyway.

If I start my Customized Live DVD the Error you receive here occurs.

If you install the system mysql-server works absolutely properly.

The Problem for me in this case is, that I cannot implement databases on
the live CD.

Hope you can circle the problem. At the Moment I do this part of working
with an installation-script for the webgui on my customized Ubuntu.

Best wishes and good luck in finding the source of the error

Greetings

Andre

Hi Guys!

Since a few (3 days? or less..) I have experiencing Mail server

emails to me.. and those never came. So, I've searched some logs and i
found this:

Starting amavisd: Error in config file
/etc/amavis/conf.d/05-domain_id: Insecure directory in $ENV{PATH}
while running with -T switch at /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-domain_id line 7.

This is when i try to start amavisd-new, and i noticed this since
postfix cannot filter emails:

What is wrong¿? I cant remember if this or related package was upgraded
these days... And i really want to get my server running again. I didn't
find anything in the web.

Thanks.

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-07-28 Thread ceg

I just noticed that with slowly-appearing drives (with md devices on it) the md
device will not exist on the regular run of init-premount/mdadm. But since
introducing another waiting loop into the coldplug driven boot does not make
much sence it'll be preferable to just do degration with failure hooks after a
full rootdelay.

That means that with a degraded md array two wainting loops will have to
time out. (the one in local-top/cryptroot and the rootwait in local)
But this is now an issue of local and local-top/cryptroot.

So the remaining list for package mdadm is down to the array degration
of md devices on which the fstab depends in /etc/init.d/mdadm.

BTW /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/cryptroot contains code to
determine cryptdevices that the rootdevice depends on. Similar approach
may work to find md devices the rootdevice depends on. It may help to
identify the particular arrays to degrade and solve this bug in a way
that does not introduce new problems.

[Bug 240519] Re: sybase_* functions missing in php5-sybase for hardy

2008-07-28 Thread Adam Conrad
The reason sybase_affected_rows didn't get aliased is because this was
renamed in the mssql extension to mssql_rows_affected, so the
s/mssql/sybase/ aliases didn't catch that.

To get old sybase_ct users happy, you need to add an alias like so:

PHP_FALIAS(sybase_affected_rows, mssql_rows_affected,
NULL)

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-07-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package initramfs-tools - 0.92bubuntu7

---
initramfs-tools (0.92bubuntu7) intrepid; urgency=low

  * scripts/functions:
- add_mountroot_fail_hook(): set up symlinks to hooks in tmp directory
- try_failure_hooks(): new function that executes each fail hook in
lexographic order, exiting successfully if a hook succeeds
- panic(): remove the fail hook calling logic, now provided by
  try_failure_hooks()
  * scripts/local:
- get_fstype(): FSTYPE must be initialized to unknown in case the fstype
  call does not set it
- root_missing(): new function to provide the oft-called set of checks on
  the ROOT device
- mountroot(): use root_missing(), and try the failure hooks before giving
  up
  * Fixes required for (LP: #120375), lots of help from Kees Cook, thanks!

Hardy Heron is working fine, so it hasn't crippled me (haven't noticed any
problems so far).

 Hi Michael,

I got a query to select using the existing samba config file.
I selected Diff, thinking I could go back (to use the original) but I then
cancelled and the configuration errors continued.
The LC_ALL errors pervaded the whole upgrade configuration changes.

 thanks for you help.

 regards
 Mike

This has been fixed in the development tree of Ubuntu Intrepid for
further testing. It's not available for Hardy (or anything prior to
Intrepid, rather) at this time.

If you would like to test this in Ubuntu Intrepid, follow the
instructions on this wiki page:

[Bug 252477] [NEW] Should NOT have both kwin-3d and compriz options available by default

2008-07-28 Thread RMS-mit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-backports-modules-intrepid-generic

I have installed Intrepid Alpha3 version of Kubuntu and I found the
options to enable kwin 3d desktop effects. However I also found the
ubuntu compirz setup tool in the applications list (I think under
utilities or system). This is potentially confusing as KDE4.1 should use
kwin's 3d desktop by default. If users really want compirz instead they
can install the package themselves. If they do have compirz and kwin
(say they install the gnome desktop as well as the KDE4.1 desktop) the
ubuntu compirz utility should allow for the following:-

1) Apply compirz settings only to the desktop user is currently running in (eg
if running in gnome desktop do not replace kwin in kde desktop.)
2) If applying compirz to the kde desktop make sure kwin 3d effects is disabled
and is reinstated if compirz is later turned off.
3) maybe hide compirz utility/options when running kde desktop or at least make
it clear kwin has it's own 3d effects.

[Bug 213973] Re: Wrong keyboard layout after LTS upgrade

2008-07-28 Thread Kristian Kißling
Confirm. Same behaviour with Ubuntu LTS 8.04. Keyboard starts with US-
Layout after Reboot. One has to change manually to de_DE.

Maybe putting setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout de -variant basic into
rc.local could be a workaround, bit I didn't test it yet.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 46462] Re: RXVT not using .Xdefaults

2008-07-28 Thread Jonathan Marsden
rxvt is currently compiled to use XGetDefault().

XGetDefault() does indeed use values from ~/.Xdefaults, but only after
they are merged into the resource database.

This happens at session startup (as the original reporter apparently
discovered by accident), or you can run:

  xrdb -merge ~/.XDefaults

after editing ~/.Xdefaults, to update the resource database.

On this basis, this issue is not really a bug, simply a decision made by
the packager. So this is Invalid : NotABug.

[Bug 252415] Re: remake (and make) memory free() error

2008-07-28 Thread Philip Ashmore
Modifying debian/rules by adding --with-dmalloc to the ./configure
invokation and rebuilding provides an interim solution.
The package would then require libdmalloc5 (5.5.1-1) in addition for
installation.

Should I report this against the make package as well ?

I'll leave it to your judgement as only you will know if this is
relevant to upstream - in your case, make.

[Bug 252345] Ubuntu Raid implementation looks like mockery

2008-07-28 Thread tricky1
On Hardy all distros (including server!) do not correctly implement Raid
1 together with crypted partitions or lvm.

The whole installation process requires a well thought out strategy
taking into consideration that the initramfs of a degraded system might
be inappropriate and that it is not possible to create a new image
before the system is up again...

With degraded arrays it all depends on the type of raid.

For raid 1 (mirroring) the user might well decide to continue booting
(automatically or after manual confirmation?).

For other raid types this is high risk, but in some special cases might
be necessary.

See also bug Bug 33649 pending for more than 2 years.

[Bug 159594] Re: Crash to white screen of death (possibly Firefox?)

2008-07-28 Thread Michael Nagel
copied over from a duplicate:

This is the same bug I reported earlier as the white screen of death:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/159594

In that report, I speculated that it might be Firefox-related, but now
I'm pretty certain that it is not related to Firefox, but is most
visible there because that's the main application I use on the afflicted
machine.

The crash usually results in a totally white screen, though I have seen
at least one case of a bar code like pattern in the lower right, and one
case where the entire display was striped with various colors. In every
case the machine is completely hosed. There is nothing to be done but
cut the power and reboot. Near as I can recall, the fan is always
running when it is in that state. I hope that is not symptomatic of any
thermal problem or related to the crash, but at least the machine hasn't
started smoking (yet).

I have not been able to find any particular stimulus that makes the
crash reproducible. However, I am fairly sure it is related to mouse
movements and that the crash can only happen when the mouse is moving.
The visible display (of the white screen) may be related to a driver
conflict, but that's also kind of speculative. However, I strongly
suspect the problem is related to window-focus problems the machine
exhibits pretty often. These are normally recoverable events, but I
suspect the crash is a case when the same root problem is not caught at
the recoverable condition, but just goes all the way to death.

The frequency of the crash is around once per day, though sometimes I
won't see it for several days, and other days there may be two of them.
I don't recall seeing more than two in a short period, but it's already
to the point where I feel I can't rely on the machine for any serious
work in Linux--it can crash at any time.

As noted in the other bug report, I'm looking for any kind of diagnostic
data or some way to make the bug reproducible.

The afflicted machine is my only Sharp running Linux, and is also the
only one with an AMD CPU. Various other distinctions, including a TV
tuner (which I'm not trying to use from the Linux side).

I can confirm that this bug occurs on Inspiron 700m with alpha 3 install
- Salavan's fix https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-

Since I upgraded to the latest version (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) to solve this
issue I'm not able to retest or verify this bug again.

I can confirm that package mythtv depends on ttf-liberation in the
latest ubuntu release (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) and MythTV in general is working
fine too.

[Bug 252485] [NEW] Mdadm segfault on booting Hardy

2008-07-28 Thread tricky1
Public bug reported:

When an installation of Hardy with 2 correctly matching drives holding a raid 1
(mirroring) set is booted with an USB stick connected, some bios will assign to
the USB stick a device name like sdb that normally would be assigned to one of
the sata drives.
In such cases mdadm reproducably generates a segfault with the following error
message:

mdadm[2691] segfault at 4 eip 61751 esp bfab4e90 error 4

The whole booting process must be analyzed taking into consideration all
possible combinations of degraded arrays or changing hardware
configurations like aditional or missing drives, usb sticks etc. and the
booting sequence including udev rules need thorough rework.

[Bug 241449] Re: Problem in sharing sound between firefox-flash and exaile, audacious, audacity

2008-07-28 Thread Jafet Morales
The same happens to me when I run both, Firefox and Amarok. I can only
hear sound in whichever one of the two I start listening to a sound
first.

So if I start a video in Youtube I will be able to hear it. But then I
can't hear anything in Amarok. So I have to restart both and play music
in Amarok. But then I cannot hear anything in Firefox.

[Bug 225206] Re: First menu click directly opens it's first entry

2008-07-28 Thread Craig
If it helps, I was going to report a bug exactly the same as this, but
updated some extension and it stopped occurring.

When I was typing the bug report I went to check on my extensions to
list them in the report. I noticed the Gmail Notifier and Google Gears
extensions needed to be updated from my prior upgrade to Firefox 3.0.1.
After I performed the updates and restarted, this bug went away. It is
probably worth noting that Gears was disabled for being incompatible but
the Gmail notifier was still enabled, but just out of date.

System:
Dell Latitude D620
Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop with all updates
Gnome 2.22.3
Firefox 3.0.1

[Bug 182704] Re: Multimedia Keys Don't Work

2008-07-28 Thread Lauri Niskanen
I have this problem now. There was never anything with the older
versions, but around Intrepid Alpha2 I got this problem. It worked fine
on the earlier Intrepid..

So the multimedia keys and some of the shortcuts don't work, if I have
numlock on. It depends on the target command, if it works. For example I
can start terminal with any key. Even with the multimedia keys. But
multimedia commands, calculator and lock the screen aren't working with
any key combination.

I have Razer Tarantula, if that helps.

[Bug 252487] [NEW] Additional field Start tracknumber in GUI

2008-07-28 Thread Markus Drexelius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

The tracknumbers starts with number 1 for each CD that I insert. When
ripping multiple disk volumes (e.g. audiobooks) it would be very helpful
to change starting the numbering with a number other then 1.

I suggest to implement an additional field Start track number in the
GUI where the user can enter the number of the first track. Sound-juicer
than increases the number by 1 for each following track.

The feature disc number seems not to work with any mp3 player, e.g.
samsung YP-K3 doesn't sort the tracks with multiple discs in the right
order, so it seem, that it doesn't use the tag discnumber in a correct
way.

[Bug 249937] Re: xargs complains command line is too long, but kernel allows command lines of arbitrary length

2008-07-28 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
In Ubuntu the maximum page allocation for env+arg is hard coded and
limited to 32 pages of 4KB.

If you look at the include/linux/binfmts.h file, you will find the
following near the top:

/*
 * MAX_ARG_PAGES defines the number of pages allocated for arguments
 * and envelope for the new program. 32 should suffice, this gives
 * a maximum env+arg of 128kB w/4KB pages!
 */
#define MAX_ARG_PAGES 32
