[Bug 269488] [NEW] iSCSI installation doesn't report initiator ID
Public bug reported: During installation, an iSCSI initiator ID is generated using the iscsi- iname utility, but the user is never given an opportunity to configure the iSCSI target to allow that ID to access the storage. This could be fixed by either A) displaying the target ID that will be used and pausing the installation until the user can set up the iSCSI target to allow that ID, or B) allowing the user to specify a particular target ID to be used instead of using the output of iscsi-iname. Even better would be to do both A and B to allow the most flexibility. Sorry about the zip, I'll post plaintext from now on. The model's Samsung LE37S71B - it is a bit older model and is no longer manufactured AFAIK. The most important news is that with most recent radeon driver (from intrepid's repository) the problem went away, the computer boots correctly and the freeze no longer occurs. [Bug 254975] Re: Intel ICH4 not detected under 2.6.24-19-generic
Hi, I have the same problem. I have an Ensoniq 1371, and I use the module snd-ens1371 (which should be perfectly supported). In dmesg I see that there is an irq conflict. Irq 10 is taken by ACPI, and then the slot is unavailable for the soundcard. Thus, modprobe fails loading. With lspci -v I see that the module is loaded, but since there is the IRQ conflict, it does not work. aplay -l gives no soundcards. I tried downgrading to the linux-image-2.6.24-18-generic kernel with the same results. I tried linux-image-2.6.27-* Alpha 3, and it works perfectly. So, it is really a kernel problem concerning IRQ assignment in the 2.6.24* kernels. I would suggest that everybody with this problem gives a look at dmesg. -- Intel ICH4 not detected under 2.6.24-19-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 269007] Re: totem-gstreamer-video-indexer crashed with SIGSEGV in init_vlc_rl()
after looking a bit closer into the code, it seems that an internal table got somehow corrupted. How that can happen is totally unclear to me. In order to investigate the issue deeper, I'd really need an example file demonstrating the crash. The problem might be that gstreamer-ffmpeg is expecting ffmpeg to have an h263 encoder and decoder, but we stripped the encoder registration out. [Bug 57091] Re: proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies=1 should be seriously considered to permit SYN flood defense...
We installed 2 production servers and suddenly we started getting strange connection problems, with no errors in the application or system logs. The problems were highly intermittent, but amounted to being unable to connect to a port our TCP server was receiving client internet connections on. After 3 days of debugging (netfilter, the server application, writing custom bash/awk programs to poll and graph netstat, doing tcpdumps) the problem what traced to random SYN attacks. It turns out that net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies=1 is commented out in the *server* edition of Ubuntu 8.04! After all this wasted time (and upset users), my only reaction is WTF...? We have many SuSE production servers, starting from 9.0 and they all came with syn cookies enabled. Messages like possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies. are *very* common in /var/log/messages, anybody who has run a heavily loaded server with many connections has seen tons of them. A developer above seems to answer that use of this option causes the system to violate the TCP standard. I guess SuSE developers understood better that a server-intended Linux distribution is not a computer science exercise, but an operating system that is *actually used* for production servers. -- proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies=1 should be seriously considered to permit SYN flood defense... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/57091 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 135324] Re: Gutsy: OpenOffice thumbnails transparent
Here's a version of the tracker thumbnailer written in Python which uses the Python Imaging Library (PIL) to modify the background color to white (works for all ODF types). It's quite similar to the one presented in the Ubuntu Forums earlier (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76566), but that one didn't change the background color so had the same transparency issue. This could replace the Tracker version but would (I assume) bring in some unwanted dependencies (Python, PIL etc.). Is there a separate thumbnailer package such as thunar-thumbnailers? Also the shadow effect on PDF thumbnails seems to be generated by evince-thumbnailer (evince-thumbnailer -s 128 test.pdf test.png). I tried to change the video output from v4l2 to v4l with gstreamer- properties, but it didn't make any difference. I'm currently running a multi-head setup, but the problem occurs also when using only the laptop's own TFT.
