Re: [Bug 189504] Re: snmpd eats memory

2008-09-12 Thread airween
Hello,

first, thanks for your help,

Ok but I asked if you could try this on hardy?

currently no, that's a productive server, and we don't have any backup
hardware for that.

btw: the problem has solved partially, snmp eats the memory, but
system hasn't crashed till I upgraded it.

a.

 Thanks
 chuck

[Bug 269488] [NEW] iSCSI installation doesn't report initiator ID

2008-09-12 Thread Roger Mach
Public bug reported:

During installation, an iSCSI initiator ID is generated using the iscsi-
iname utility, but the user is never given an opportunity to configure
the iSCSI target to allow that ID to access the storage. This could be
fixed by either A) displaying the target ID that will be used and
pausing the installation until the user can set up the iSCSI target to
allow that ID, or B) allowing the user to specify a particular target ID
to be used instead of using the output of iscsi-iname. Even better
would be to do both A and B to allow the most flexibility.

Also, whatever iSCSI ID is used during the install should be configured
in the installation target filesystem so that when the system reboots
the same ID is used.

[Bug 262264] Re: Fails to join a domain: Unknown pam configuration

2008-09-12 Thread Steve Langasek
Running domainjoin-cli on my system, I end up with the following in
/etc/pam.d/common-auth:

# here are the per-package modules (the Primary block)
auth[success=2 default=ignore]  pam_krb5.so minimum_uid=1000
authsufficient pam_lwidentity.so
auth[success=1 default=ignore]  pam_unix.so nullok_secure try_first_pass
# here's the fallback if no module succeeds
authrequisite pam_deny.so
# prime the stack with a positive return value if there isn't one already;
# this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code
# since the modules above will each just jump around
authrequiredpam_permit.so

This, of course, is not the intended behavior...

Yes, I think we need to fix this for Ubuntu by implementing support for
pam-auth-update.

[Bug 262584] Re: Intrepid LiveCD installer didn't set up boot files correctly

Gave the same problem on Alpha 5 (except with 2.6.27-2. I still haven't
been able to install Intrepid (64-bit). It only puts the initrd on /boot
plus a vmcoreinfo file, but not the vmlinuz file.

When I changed menu.lst to boot from the Hardy kernel (2.6.24-19), I can
boot Kubuntu. But if I try to mount /boot, I get unknown ext2
filesystem. If I try to mount the CD, I get unknown ISo9660
filesystem. So I haven't found a way to manual get the Intrepid kernel
onto my /boot partition yet.

(= 2.5), which should make it installable. Can you try start a update
using sudo aptitude full-upgrade; if there is a dependency problem it
should error out/give you some options to solve it with a description
of the specific problem. You can just say quit after the first option
has been presented; but please attach the complete output from the run.

Also these two outputs could be helpful:
apt-cache policy python2.5
apt-cache policy libpythonize0

I resolved the issue by creating an html signature from scratch. Problem
seems to appear when you attempt to alter an existing signature from
plain text to html.

2008-09-12 Thread airween
Hello,

first, thanks for your help,

Ok but I asked if you could try this on hardy?

currently no, that's a productive server, and we don't have any backup
hardware for that.

btw: the problem has solved partially, snmp eats the memory, but
system hasn't crashed till I upgraded it.

a.

 Thanks

[Bug 257383] Re: [RS485] hard freezes if booted with second monitor attached

2008-09-12 Thread Martin Vysny
Sorry about the zip, I'll post plaintext from now on.
The model's Samsung LE37S71B - it is a bit older model and is no longer
manufactured AFAIK.
The most important news is that with most recent radeon driver (from intrepid's
repository) the problem went away, the computer boots correctly and the freeze
no longer occurs. Even the driver's DRI works, both with XAA and EXA. Many
thanks!

[Bug 160015] Re: sata_via hotplug does not work

Another boot and this time gparted sees both drives attached to the SATA

[Bug 269285] [NEW] gnome panels freeze when opening invalid ftp bookmark

2008-09-12 Thread Kasper Sørensen
Public bug reported:

I have a FTP bookmark which usually works fine, but the other day the
server was offline and when I click the bookmark through the gnome
panels (Places - Bookmarks - my ftp) then all of the gnome panels
freeze for a couple of minutes, untill an error message is displayed
stating that the FTP is unavailable. In this time I'm unable to open the

[Bug 224077] Re: Outdated (buggy) GNUmed version (0.2.8.2) in Hardy

2008-09-12 Thread shilbert
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnumed-client

SInce Hardy has been released the semi-automatic reporter has reported
quite some bugs. Most of them are due to Hardy shipping an oudated
  version (0.2.8.2).

Meanwhile the Debian packages have seen quite a few bug fix releases. We
are up to 0.2.8.6 now which fixes the reported bugs.

Please consider updating the version in Hardy as it really just a bugfix
release and no new dependencies or code was introduced. This is a drop
  in replacement.

- Meanwhile a slightly less buggy (but still not yet up to date) version is
here:

Please read about it in our Wiki:

[Bug 269287] [NEW] eog window window border should minimize around the picture at best fit

2008-09-12 Thread mr. adams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Is there a way to reset the default window size in relation to image
size in EyeOfGnome?

I find that opening an image of almost any size (or viewing it at Best
Fit) there is invariably an empty space of approximately 125px to the
left and right of the image. Is it possible to minimize the border
area around the image (upon launching eog)? I often find myself manually
resizing the window pane along the horizontal access.

I simply don't understand what the empty screen real-estate to the left
and right of the image within the EOG window is for.

[Bug 254975] Re: Intel ICH4 not detected under 2.6.24-19-generic

2008-09-12 Thread aquilarubra
Hi, I have the same problem. I have an Ensoniq 1371, and I use the module
snd-ens1371 (which should be perfectly supported). In dmesg I see that there is
an irq conflict. Irq 10 is taken by ACPI, and then the slot is unavailable for
the soundcard. Thus, modprobe fails loading. With lspci -v I see that the
module is loaded, but since there is the IRQ conflict, it does not work. aplay
-l gives no soundcards.
I tried downgrading to the linux-image-2.6.24-18-generic kernel with the same
results.
I tried linux-image-2.6.27-* Alpha 3, and it works perfectly. So, it is really
a kernel problem concerning IRQ assignment in the 2.6.24* kernels.
I would suggest that everybody with this problem gives a look at dmesg.

[Bug 269007] Re: totem-gstreamer-video-indexer crashed with SIGSEGV in init_vlc_rl()

2008-09-12 Thread Reinhard Tartler
after looking a bit closer into the code, it seems that an internal
table got somehow corrupted. How that can happen is totally unclear to
me. In order to investigate the issue deeper, I'd really need an example
file demonstrating the crash.

The problem might be that gstreamer-ffmpeg is expecting ffmpeg to have
an h263 encoder and decoder, but we stripped the encoder registration
out. Again, something I cannot easily tell without access to an example
file that demostrates the crash.

It looks different to #88746. You mention you have one USB drive that
works, and one that does not; can you confirm this happens even if there
are inserted into the same USB port. That would definitely make it
different to #88746.

If that is the case, can you eliminate the possibility that your Relay
drive is defective by trying it on a different computer.

[Bug 57091] Re: proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_syncookies=1 should be seriously considered to permit SYN flood defense...

2008-09-12 Thread alecm3
We installed 2 production servers and suddenly we started getting
strange connection problems, with no errors in the application or system
logs. The problems were highly intermittent, but amounted to being
unable to connect to a port our TCP server was receiving client internet
connections on.

After 3 days of debugging (netfilter, the server application, writing
custom bash/awk programs to poll and graph netstat, doing tcpdumps) the
problem what traced to random SYN attacks.

It turns out that net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies=1 is commented out in the
*server* edition of Ubuntu 8.04!

After all this wasted time (and upset users), my only reaction is
WTF...? We have many SuSE production servers, starting from 9.0 and
they all came with syn cookies enabled. Messages like

possible SYN flooding on port 80. Sending cookies.

are *very* common in /var/log/messages, anybody who has run a heavily
loaded server with many connections has seen tons of them.

A developer above seems to answer that use of this option causes the
system to violate the TCP standard. I guess SuSE developers understood
better that a server-intended Linux distribution is not a computer
science exercise, but an operating system that is *actually used* for
production servers.

[Bug 135324] Re: Gutsy: OpenOffice thumbnails transparent

2008-09-12 Thread Bruce van der Kooij
Here's a version of the tracker thumbnailer written in Python which uses
the Python Imaging Library (PIL) to modify the background color to white
(works for all ODF types). It's quite similar to the one presented in
the Ubuntu Forums earlier
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76566), but that one didn't
change the background color so had the same transparency issue.

This could replace the Tracker version but would (I assume) bring in
some unwanted dependencies (Python, PIL etc.). Is there a separate
thumbnailer package such as thunar-thumbnailers?

Also the shadow effect on PDF thumbnails seems to be generated by
evince-thumbnailer (evince-thumbnailer -s 128 test.pdf test.png). I
didn't replicate this.

actually I've just measured some firefox heavy IO activity, but as Nick

the slowdown that I felt was probably due to the large write of 5.5MB in 5
seconds you can see at 18:28:31 - some random IO activity I guess.

[Bug 269291] [NEW] Keyboard layout is automatically switched on application startup only with Compiz enabled

2008-09-12 Thread Daniel Ursache-Dogariu
Public bug reported:

System info:

Ubuntu 8.04.1
Compiz 0.7.4
Gnome 2.22.3
gnome-applets 2.22.2-0ubuntu2

Steps to recreate the behaviour:

Close all desktop windows. In Keyboard Preferences add three layouts (ie: USA,
Rou, Cze). Select Rou as default and after that untick Separate layout for
each window. Choose the USA layout from the Keyboard Indicator Applet.
When you start Firefox, the global layout is automatically switched to Rou.
Switch the layout through the applet again to USA. When you start another
application (ie: System - Preferences - Keyboard) the global layout is switched
back to Rou. For other applications (ie: Totem Movie Player) the layout isn't
automatically switched.

This behaviour happens ONLY with Compiz enabled. If it's disabled then
the layout doesn't switch automatically when starting new applications
(it remains to what is currently selected on Keyboard Indicator Applet).

[Bug 269289] [NEW] [gutsy] Suspend/hibernate just switches to a console

2008-09-12 Thread Ketil Malde
Public bug reported:

I've been (mostly) successfully using suspend/resume on my laptop until
recently. Now the 'pm-suspend' command (as well as the 'suspend' entry
in the GDM) simply switches to a blank text console (blinking _ cursor
only). Nothing else happens, but I can switch back to either text
consoles or graphical consoles with key combinations (Alt-Fx, Ctrl-

[Bug 225400] Re: web page - X server crash/blank, no display until reboot [Q965]

2008-09-12 Thread AnttiKaihola
I'm experiencing the same issue using the 2.2.1 version of the Intel
driver on a Dell Inspiron 500m. Everything works in normal orientation,
but when I rotate left, Totem (and the Firefox plugin) hangs the system
when it's trying to display either a video or a visualizer.

I tried to change the video output from v4l2 to v4l with gstreamer-
properties, but it didn't make any difference.

I'm currently running a multi-head setup, but the problem occurs also
when using only the laptop's own TFT.

Here's output from lspci and xdpyinfo:
