[Bug 339847] Re: system-config-printer notification patch should auto-detect capabilities of notification daemon, so that it can get upstreamized
Tim, what do you think about making the following notification behavior the upstream default in system-config-printer? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#system-config-printer We do away with notification bubbles in general and instead, we do the following: * When a printer is added successfully using a matching printer driver, a “Printer added” notification bubble appears containing the text “`%s' is ready for printing.” and a “Configure” button. Instead, the Properties window for that printer should open unfocused directly. * When a printer is added successfully using a non-matching printer driver, a “Printer added” notification bubble appears containing the text “%s' has been added, using the %s' driver.” and a “Find driver” button. (system-config-printer 1.1 will also include a “Print test page” button.) Instead, the Properties window for that printer should open unfocused. * When you try to view jobs on a printer that requires authentication, an “Authentication required” notification bubble appears containing the text “Job requires authentication to proceed” and an “Authenticate” button that brings up an alert box saying “Authentication required for printing document `%s' (job %d)”. The notification bubble should be abolished, and the alert box should be invoked directly instead. * When a print job gets stuck for some reason, a notification bubble appears containing text “There was a problem processing the document” or similar, containing no buttons but staying open until it is clicked. This should be converted to an error alert box with an “OK” button. ken, pitti, Matthew, if Tim does not agree to make this behavior default, we need to have both this new and the old behavior available in the upstream code. By default, the new behavior should be used in the case that the notification facility is not supporting actions and the old behavior otherwise. In addition, a ./configure option should also allow to force the old or the new behavior. ** Changed in: system-config-printer (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High -- system-config-printer notification patch should auto-detect capabilities of notification daemon, so that it can get upstreamized https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/339847 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: Binary package hint: ubiquity Incomplete Language Support message, available (with translations) in language-selector package (/usr/share/language-support/incomplete- language-support-gnome.note), does not get shown after installation anymore even if it would be needed. Installed a fresh Jaunty from 20090303.1 daily-live, without network connection. To reproduce: 1. Use eg. VirtualBox, but with disabled network connection, to install Ubuntu in non-English language (I chose Finnish) so that language support will be incomplete after installation 2. After installation, enable network connection again and boot into Ubuntu Expected result: After staring at the cryptic (English) desktop for a while, a light bulb should appear (as in Ubuntu 8.10) telling that language support is incomplete. The text should be in in the installation language. From the dialog one can choose to go to language-selector which (now in jaunty!) correctly guides you through installing the complete language support, first refreshing repositories if needed. [Bug 337926] Re: vino: mouse cursor stays in upper left corner
I have similar problem that i think may be related. I can move the mouse pointer, but the local and remote pointers are offset from each other. As i move my local mouse pointer off the bottom of the vnc window, the remote pointer is still about 1/6th up the screen. I am on an Asus 901 with Jaunty Alpha running the same version of the package as the original reporter. Not sure if they are related. I have tried it using UltraVNC viewer 1.0.2 and TightVNC viewer 1.3.10 on WindowsXP. Also noticed in the Xorg log posted that X is using the Synaptics mouse driver. I am pretty sure mine is as well. Could there be an issue here? [Bug 337627] Re: Killswitch position detected as active indipendent from actual state after resume
Some updates: the state is now not explicitly disabled, but someway inbetween. Specifically, NetworkManager does not show the state as disabled, but the wireless led is inactive and no wireless networks are detected. Usually simply to toggle the Enable Wireless option in the NetworkManager context menu solved the problem (i.e. wireless get's activated), though some times the kernel panics on that operation. ** Summary changed: - Killswitch position detected as active indipendent from actual state after resume + Wireless driver hangs after resume, occasional kernel panic on 'Enable Wireless' -- Wireless driver hangs after resume, occasional kernel panic on 'Enable Wireless' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337627 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

that a device you want to use needs to be formatted with any kind of filesystem should be clear indeed ... the important part is that the device needs to be *partitioned* ... some windows applications format usb keys directly without creating a partition table, if your device shows up as /dev/sda instead of /dev/sdaX (where X is a number) in the output of dmesg after plugging it in, then it has no partition table. i would recommend using something like gparted to partition and format such an usb key. -- Jaunty Alpha 5: Usb stick (flash drive) does not pop up on the Gnome desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/335767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 97722] Re: Windows dual-boot can corrupt system clock even if time servers are enabled
trollord: set UTC=no in /etc/default/rcS. This setting will make Ubuntu read and write to the hardware clock in localtime, rather than UTC. Windows does the same by default, and thus you won't have problems with them fighting over the clock's timezone. This is the default (in Intrepid and Jaunty, anyway) for Ubuntu installations if Windows was installed first. David Nemeskey: Ticking Set date and time manually turns off NTP, so no, it wouldn't check the time servers on startup. If Kubuntu was not detecting your time zone change, then it's likely that your timezone wasn't set correctly, because tzdata contains information on time zone changes and is applied in (K)Ubuntu. Immediately afterwards pbuilder drops its privs down to nobody:nobody. I think this is most appropriately marked as not a bug. Feel free to disagree and/or offer suggestions :) ** Changed in: prevu (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- Sometimes prevu ask for sudo password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 333644] Re: [i915] no valid modes on LVDS / ASUS M6A notebook
Thank you MichaL. This definitely tells us that the problem is that xorg can't read the EDID information. Do you still have a working copy of Hardy around? If you don't have it installed, you may download a LiveCD and try it. Hardy has two drivers that would work with this card, the older i810 and the newer intel. You can switch between the two by adding Driver intel or Driver i810 in the Device section of xorg.conf (I'm not sure which one is the default). The i810 driver is discontinued and therefore not available in newer ubuntu versions. It would be great to know if both drivers work in Hardy or only the i810. If the intel driver works, I would like you to also add Option ModeDebug true to the Device section of your xorg.conf and upload the log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the same EDID related information as you just did for jaunty. Actually, if it only works with i810, it may be useful to have that information in that case as well. -- [i915] no valid modes on LVDS / ASUS M6A notebook https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
