[Bug 415756] [NEW] Please remove acidlab - not maintained upstream

[Bug 415761] [NEW] Accidental double click on update-notifier starts two instances

2009-08-19 Thread bsh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

Hello
I have experienced this many times: when the notification of updates appears on
the taskbar/tray, I sometimes double-click it to open up the update manager (as
in my experience, double clicking is the most frequent way of restoring windows
minimized to the tray). It then starts two instances of update manager, which
work in parallel, and one of them gives an error sooner or later, that files
are locked etc. (obviously by the other instance).
This is not really a bug, maybe a cosmetic thing, but I think, the notifier
should have something to prevent double clicking.

Ubuntu version affected: all, from 7.04 upwards
DE: XFCE 4.4 4.6, Gnome *all*

[Bug 415759] [NEW] External monitor requires switching VT to activate

2009-08-19 Thread Matthew Lai
Public bug reported:

On my laptop with Intel integrated graphics (X4500), if I connect an
external monitor via the VGA port, and use System-Pref-Displays to set
it to only use the external monitor (and disable the laptop monitor
altogether), when I reboot (happens on every boot), GDM will show on
both screens (this is expected), but once I login, both screens become
black. I need to switch to another VT (both screens would show the VT)
and back to see my GNOME desktop. After that, my laptop screen would
display the VT I switched to, and the external display would show my
GNOME desktop.

I am not sure what part of the system (Xorg, Intel driver, GNOME) is at
fault, but I will try to blame GNOME first :).

Expected behaviour - the external screen shows the GNOME desktop on
login, and the laptop screen should be turned off.

This is on Karmic alpha 4. I didn't notice this behaviour in 9.04 (or
maybe even earlier 9.10 alphas, that I'm not sure).

Thanks!

Oh, good catch! Using the KMS names (VGA1, LVDS1) seems to work for me as

Ah, that's right the names have changed. Sounds like you've got stuff

to this that you think should be addressed as well now that you've
straightened out the naming scheme, please open new bug reports (we like

of the status of stuff otherwise.)

[Bug 415768] [NEW] funny alt/meta mapping with sun type 7 keyboards

2009-08-19 Thread Jayen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Ubuntu 9.04
kdebase-workspace 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2

I have a Sun Type 7 keyboard.
I run: kcmshell4 keyboard_layout (or otherwise open kde's keyboard layout
options)
I choose Sun Type 5/6 from the Keyboard model list
I hit apply

Now alt+tab brings up the window list, but meta+tab and meta+shift+tab
rotate me through the list. Weird indeed! Also, meta+left click to
drag windows, even though the window behaviour explicitly says alt+left
click. Weirder!

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia
Package: kdebase-workspace-bin 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa5 (I upgraded while
I was reporting the bug, so this is wrong)

Here is a patch on the bzr branch at ~ubuntu-core-dev/installation-

I haven't updated the translations and probably it's a patch that is
best applied upstream if the bug exists there.

[Bug 415773] [NEW] [Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2000 (RG404UA#ABA)] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-08-19 Thread miki
Public bug reported:

Updates as of Aug 18.
Other issue with screensaver not starting.
Power management set to 'blank' when I close lid. I closed lid and an hour
later laptop was in standby mode. However laptop would not come out of
standby. Had to reboot. Reboot lost everything, probably signalling crash
report.

[Bug 127315] Re: F-Spot puts photos in Photos folder not Pictures folder

2009-08-19 Thread rugby471
Okay attached is the debdiff that solves this bug.

What the patch does if when F-Spot finds that the
'f-spot/import/storage_path' gconf string has not been set yet
(basically the first time the user uses the application) it will check:

Does the directory 'XDG_PICTURES_DIR/Photos' exist?

(this all translates, so in Spanish this would be Imágenes/Fotos)

If it does not, then F-Spot will create the directory, if it does, then
it continues. Finally F-Spot will set the default storage path for the
users Photos to be:

'XDG_PICTURES_DIR/Photos'

I have tested this patch thoroughly and it builds + works perfectly on
Karmic. The patch also fixes a few debian packaging things.

I am subscribing Ubuntu Main Sponsors

[Bug 413656] Re: Local root exploit via CVE-2009-2692 (incorrect proto_ops initializations)

2009-08-19 Thread Bremm
Hi everyone,

I noticed before kernel update (15.49) that sctp and libcrc32 modules
were loaded (2.6.28-15-generic) and AFAIK, SCTP stills experimental.
Well, since config.gz isn't available under /proc, could I use /usr/src
/linux-headers-2.6.28-15-generic/.config as reference?

Thanks in advance

(Sidenote: I've just lost my previous text -- it was much better but a
bit longer -- because lauchpad logged me off before I submit this
posting)

[Bug 385232] Re: [i965] UXA Freeze

2009-08-19 Thread Lenar
So you know, I have no intention to open another bug. I've written here a big
bunch
of information, attached a number of dumps and so on. To replicate that
information in
another bug is time-consuming and pointless to me, I don't have time for this
circus.

And where is this one freeze rule per person written? It's not nice to say
aftwerwards that
you have rule when you have not made to rule known and accessible to those
governed by it.

So you use the information I've attached here or not - I don't care. I tried to
help, I failed, freezes still
happen.

[Bug 415785] [NEW] madfuload is not called from udev

2009-08-19 Thread David Monniaux
Public bug reported:

madfuload is a firmware uploading tool necessary for certain external
sound cards used by e.g. musicians. It does not work properly: while it
can be manually invoked, the udev script does nothing.

Madfuload expects command lines such as:
madfuload -v -l -3 -f /usr/share/usb/maudio/ma004103.bin -D /dev/bus/usb/002/002
(and if does this manually, the firmware gets uploaded).

It is invoked from:
/lib/udev/rules.d/42-madfuload.rules

It's probably just a matter of fixing the udev rules.

[Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)

2009-08-19 Thread Colin King
SRU Justification:

Impact: HP Mini 1000 speakers do not work, and audio only works through
the headphone jack.

Fix: Patch attached includes correct Intel HDA audio verb table and
mixer settings to enable speakers for the HP Mini 1000 (Audio chipset:
IDT 92HD75B2X5, Vendor Id 0x111d7608, Subsystem Id: 0x103c361a, Revision
Id: 0x100102).

Testcase: Without the patch, no speaker output. With the patch, speakers
work and also headphone jack plug/unplug works reliably.

This has already been tested by myself on two different HP Mini 1000
builds with BIOS revision F.10 and also by Jonathan T (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/318942/comments/184 )

[Bug 415786] [NEW] apport doesn't respect gnome proxy settings

2009-08-19 Thread derLars
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport-gtk

Release: Karmic 9.10 (i386)
Package: apport, apport-gtk 1.7-0ubuntu2

when trying to submit an error message, the connection times out. This
seems to be due to apport ignoring the proxy settings of gnome, since
I'm behind a web proxy here.

Re: [Bug 355729] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv6000 (RP165UA#ABA)] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-08-19 Thread Zaargh
Hi,
I was experiencing problems with suspend and resume - after suspending i had
to hard reset my laptop, because i had nothig more than black screen when I
tried to resume. Now, unfortunately, I dont't know, I'm on holiday and my
computer was left home. I'll mail you as soon as I get back home, get
updates and try it out.
And, by the way, my computer is not dv6000. It's HP Pavilion dv9000 series.

Greetings,
Jakub Andrzejewski

2009/8/19 Steve Conklin steve.conk...@canonical.com

This bug report was triggered during a time when experimental testing
for suspend/resume failures was generating false positives, and may not
 be a real failure.

Are you experiencing any problems with suspend and resume? If not we can
 close this bug.

 Thank you

[Bug 277211] Re: Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth card can't turned on in Ubuntu

2009-08-19 Thread PomCompot
Get a Dell Latitude D530 with an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
[Golan].

Can confirm this. I have fought 1 entire day with this problem trying
also solution on Ubuntu forums and launchpad bugs to not having to boot
to Windows. I finally boot to Windows, activate the bluetooth and it
works in Ubuntu then.

I can confirm that sudo dellWirelessCtl --info give me the same
information than the BIOS, but this information seems false because the
bluetooth was really off. It seems that's a very specific problem of the
wireless card driver.

Note: This also have activated the bluetooth LED that was off before,
only indication of the real status of bluetooth it seems.

[Bug 413665] Re: xorg nearly 80% CPU load since 9.0.4

2009-08-19 Thread StefanF
I read both sites, but did not find any hint there that solved my
problem. The problem occurs also when simply booting the Kubunty CD,
therefore I thought that providing a list of running applications and
daemons was not necessary. I also wrote that killed everything that I
can kill, leaving only a minimum KDE desktop remaining.

The reportbug command was not useful in my case because the computer was
so slow that I was not able to get the internet connection working.
Therefore I had to write the bug ticket manually on another computer
with a working Ubuntu installation.

What additional info do you need?

[Bug 410305] Re: screen flickering on dell laptop

2009-08-19 Thread Aurelien Naldi
It seems to have been a problem with the in-kernel part of the driver and KMS,
fixed in the latest kernel update (2.6.31-6):
* I spotted some flicker in usplash and text console as well
* booting without KMS removed it
* it is gone, even with KMS enabled in 2.6.31-6 (and back if booting again on
2.6.31-5, it was not fixed by one of the other updates)

For the record, here is a short answer to your question:

The symptoms are similar to that of bug #399829:
many redraw trigger screen flickering, for exemple moving windows of the gdm
animations, even text scrolling in a terminal
the only difference is that changing the resolution did not work arround it for
me, otherwise, the flickering looked like the one in the video linked in bug
#399829.

[Bug 351305] Re: Ubuntu freezes when it loses wireless signal (also very weak signal)

Vitor, thanks for the response.
The backports package will be contained in the feature release. The drivers
that are released after Jaunty will go into backports module, so that Karmic

I'm going to close this bug, please feel free to reopen it if this

Yes I want to open a new bug, because the internal mike is not working in my
MEDION AKOYA laptop.

2009/8/19 Leann Ogasawara leann.ogasaw...@canonical.com

 Hi dompie,

Care to open a new bug regarding the internal microphone issue? The
reason I ask is it's helpful to the development teams if bug target one
specific issue against a specific set of hardware. Otherwise it can
often get confusing reading through bugs where the majority of the
comments no longer apply. Also enabling the microphone will likely
require a different patch. For now I'm marking this particular bug Fix
 Released. Thanks!

[Bug 379157] Re: [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens)

2009-08-19 Thread Jordi Puigsegur
I first tried to use a live CD but didn't know how to reboot after the
changes so I tried to use a boot USB stick but was not successful.

Since it might be a while until I am able to have a working USB stick
I'll use a live CD ,but here I have doubts. I understand how I can
install the patch in a live CD but I don't know how to test that the
patch works. Before formatting I could just reboot the computer after
every xorg.conf change and test everything but in a live CD I cannot
reboot ... how do I test that the new X configuration works after
installing? And how do I go back to a working conf. to submit the files?

Thanks,
Jordi.
