[Bug 611854] [NEW] Cannot log in on launchpad in w3m (affects apport-collect in Ubuntu Server)

2010-07-30 Thread Friday
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: w3m

Using apport-collect on Ubuntu Server 10.04 it opens Launchpad in w3m,
but Launchpad doesn't work in w3m. When you try to sign in you get to a
point where you can either register, recover your password, cancel or
continue, but continue isn't selectable.

So in other words apport-collect is broken on Ubuntu Server.

Using w3m 0.5.2-2.1ubuntu1 and apport 1.13.3-0ubuntu2

[Bug 380907] Re: Text gets erroneously copied to the clipboard in GTK based applications

2010-07-30 Thread Craig Fowler
Wow, I reported this 14 months ago and had forgotten about it.

In short this bug has no meaning to me anymore. After experiencing some
other issues in (IIRC) Q3 2009 I abandoned Ubuntu and switched to Debian
testing. I find that much more reliable than Ubuntu stable.

I can say though that I can't reproduce this in Debian testing. I
assume that this means that [whatever made it right for me] in Debian
should make its way downstream to Ubuntu at some point - if not already.
Sorry I can't be more helpful but I don't have any Ubuntu machines left
to try and reproduce this on.

Another test: the fourth post popped up only on twitter.

should it be a facebook (anti spam) timeout?
hope to be useful.

[Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

2010-07-30 Thread drm / Gerard
Got the same problem in debian testing (squeeze) for a while. I tried
removing the wacom and synaptics input drivers and hope this will be
effective. I'll report back about that.

Following workarounds were more or less effective for me: rightclicking
on desktop after Super+D, restarting window manager (tried openbox,
fluxbox and metacity) with --replace, and replugging the mouse. But in a
few minutes the problem always reoccurred. I'm still not sure what
triggers it.

So afaics it has nothing to do with Ubuntu. Debian has the same
dependencies in xserver-xorg-input-all though.

Re: [Bug 611188] Re: Server disk was reverted as it were 1 month ago. How?

2010-07-30 Thread Phillip Susi
What does dmraid -n show?

Obviously the disks went out of sync some time ago and the reboot
resulted in the other disk being used now. The question is why, and is
the new data still on the other disk, or have they been resynced using
the old disk?

You should try mounting each disk directly read only rather than going
through the raid device and see if one of them has the correct data.

[Bug 602273] Re: PXE booting the desktop image fails to configure network

2010-07-30 Thread Mathieu Trudel
Wrote a (quick) patch that seems to correct the issue. That said, it's
making use of a function that is sourced from /init inside the initrd,
and apparently not in casper itself, which seems far from optimal.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to re-copy this function in casper-
functions or casper-helpers instead.

Note also: apparently the IPAPPEND 2 option is now required for pxelinux
to include BOOTIF in cmdline since casper doesn't just configure the
interface specified in initramfs.conf.

[Bug 611865] [NEW] Automatic set language for subtitles on first start

2010-07-30 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smplayer

On first start SMPlayer sucsesfuly detect system locale and set right interface
language, but not set same default subtitle language for autodetect subtitle

[Bug 93546] Re: [upstream] Openoffice.org Address data sources missing

2010-07-30 Thread NoOp
The address book options are showing up in Standard OOo 3.2.1; however do you
actually have any address data under the headers when you select the
Thunderbird address sources? I do not with:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100608
Lightning/1.0b2 Thunderbird/3.1
Nor with:
Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.11)
Gecko/20100701 Lightning/1.0b1 SeaMonkey/2.0.6
The issue is that, even though the address sources show up, mozilla are using a
different database structure for addressbooks in the most recent versions.

[Bug 611873] [NEW] initrd should have aufs mode

2010-07-30 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

Hi,

that's not a bug-report, that's a wish and proposal:

Would be nice if the initrd would support mounting a ramdisk/aufs over a
read-only root system in case the root file system is not writable or the user
requests on the command line.

It would allow to use and temporarily modify a linux system without
actually changing it. Or to have a root file system on a squashfs
compressed file.

Hadmut

[Bug 228806] Re: [MASTER] various unrelated crashes for firefox-3.0 and xulrunner-1.9

2010-07-30 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
Thanks to whoever provided the useful reminder about the tab setting in
response to the previous spleen venting.

I don' t know if this is really the same bug I'm seeing--and I don't
care anymore. After several years of using Ubuntu, I am now convinced
that it is going down the toilet and cannot be relied upon. This comment
(which was just interrupted by ANOTHER unprovoked Firefox shutdown--at
least the 3rd this hour), is just spleen venting. I'm just waiting for a
better alternative or to be forced all the way back to Microsoft. I am
NOT waiting for Ubuntu to get better. The trend line on Ubuntu is
absolutely clear: Right down the toilet.

I guess that's enough and I may as well post this before Firefox crashes
again.

Oh yeah. One more point of annoyance. A bug-reporting system that
strongly depends on a buggy piece of software is not worth much.
However, I've already suggested the obvious REAL improvement directed at
the root of increasing the regression testing.

[Bug 578138] Re: Thinkpad T400 (model 2765-TDG) fails to resume after second suspend

2010-07-30 Thread Miguel Martinez
Hello again,

I'm yet to test Intel without tp-smapi in kernel 2.6.32-24.
Nevertheless, the freeze after the second resume exists in my laptop
with 2.6.32-24, ATi w/ tp-smapi, ATi without tp-smapi, and intel w/tp-
smapi.

One thing I've noticed, however, is that on the first suspend-resume
cycle, the T400 will beep when you trigger the resume routines.
However, on the second cycle, the beep will come right before it
suspends. As far as I know, it never comes back to life. Funnily enough,
in Windows Vista Business 32bit (no suspend-resume issues), the beep
comes right at suspension. I don't recall the machine beeping on resume.

I hope this info helps anyone. If you suspect the blame actually lies in
my laptop, I'd also like to hear this.

Regards,

Miguel

[Bug 611874] [NEW] lockup when xrandr changes display

2010-07-30 Thread Dana
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

To reproduce, use two monitors.

1. Use xrandr to turn 1 ON and 2 OFF
2. go to screensaver/lock screen
3. Use xrandr to turn 1 OFF and 2 ON (i have a udev rule for this, a keyboard
shortcut would also work)
4. The lock dialog can not be seen. Typing in the password blindly does not
help. Using xrandr to turn 1 ON and 2 OFF again does not change this.
Switching to a VT and killing gnome-screensaver is the only way to log in.

This may be a duplicate from another bug, if someone did not realize xrandr
interaction was causing the problem.

my udev rule:

$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/98-video.rules

SUBSYSTEM==drm, \
ACTION==change, \
DEVNAME==/dev/dri/card0, \
RUN+=/usr/local/bin/toggle-display :0

and the helper script:

$ cat /usr/local/bin/toggle-display
#!/bin/sh

test -z $1 || export DISPLAY=$1

if xrandr|grep VGA1 connected 21 /dev/null; then
ON=VGA1
OFF=LVDS1
else
ON=LVDS1
OFF=VGA1
fi

xrandr --output $ON --auto --primary --output $OFF --off

[Bug 611877] [NEW] race condition in upstart network-interface.conf

2010-07-30 Thread Jarrett Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifupdown

I think there is an error in the Lucid /etc/init/networking-
interfaces.conf file. the pre-start script references /var/run but
/var/run is only available after mountall sends the local-filesystems
event.

So I think that maybe the start on condition in network-interfaces.conf should
be:
start on (net-device-added and local-filesystems)
instead of just
start on net-device added

Mu ubuntu does not do this I can leave it on for weeks even month where The
Windows I use needs rebooting some times 3 times a day, to just one time.

Oh yeah. One more point of annoyance. A bug-reporting system that
strongly depends on a buggy piece of software is not worth much.
However, I've already suggested the obvious REAL improvement directed at
the root of increasing the regression testing.

[Bug 610039] Re: firefox-bin crashed with SIGSEGV in sqlite3VdbeExec()

2010-07-30 Thread Chris Sherlock
After further troubleshooting, turns out that this is a specific problem
with a corrupted index.

The sqlite3 guys have developed a fix for sqlite3. From
http://www.sqlite.org/src/ci/83395a3d24:

If a database becomes corrupted such that an index is out of sync with
its table, make sure the corruption is detected and reported back. Do
not assume that indices always contain rowids for valid table rows.

This is being fixed in sqlite3 3.7.1

If anyone encounters this issue, they can do the following:

ch...@ubuntu:~/.mozilla/firefox/1u64q3v3.default$ for i in *.sqlite; do echo
Reindexing $i; echo reindex; | sqlite3 $i; done
Reindexing content-prefs.sqlite
Reindexing cookies.sqlite

[Bug 285892] Re: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x807f SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen

2010-07-30 Thread DjznBR
I think I have this bad block for a year now... the thing is that I
would never write much data on this disk. The problem started when the
headers actually started to cross over this spot, since I almost filled
the disk a couple of times.

I never cared to make a full surface scan using the factory tool from
SAMSUNG. Neither cared to do this with fsck. I've always relied on fsck
partial checks, and I think when the thing starts going really bad you
get warned. Otherwise, you don't.

So, download the factory surface scan app from your HDD website company,
and do a full scan. It may take an hour depending how large it is (40
minutes for this 160GB).

One thing for sure is that I will never be buying SAMSUNG hard drives
again. I remember someone said to me that they were a so-so hard disk
brand, and my previous disk was a Seagate Spinpoint in 2004 which I
believe it is still kicking ass for someone I sold to. Western Digital
made the RMA record for me, counting 3 RMA'ed drives in 2 years. So I
stopped buying from them too.

I am gonna buy a Seagate 500GB. However, I am gonna low-level format
this problematic drive and see if this bad block can be marked away. At
least I can still use it on a spare machine.

[Bug 228806] Re: [MASTER] various unrelated crashes for firefox-3.0 and xulrunner-1.9

2010-07-30 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
I don't mind discussing thing, but it seems pretty pointless. Actually,
on the two machines that I normally run under Ubuntu, I also am forced
to use older versions of Ubuntu because the newer versions are NOT
reliable enough. I am running the newest version experimentally on three
machines--but I can't rely on it. This is NOT progress.

For what little it is worth, I think the fundamental problem with Ubuntu
is that the economic model they are using is broken. It worked to a
certain point, but at this point the regression testing is clearly
inadequate. As a constructive suggestion, here is a link to a funding
model that might provide a better balance between new features and
keeping things working:

[Bug 611886] [NEW] maximized windows don't get redrawn

2010-07-30 Thread Marius Gedminas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

Practically every time I plug in an external monitor and set up dual-
head (1280x1024 external LCD connected over analog VGA to the right of
my primary laptop screen, 1280x800), maximized windows stop being
redrawn. I've seen this happen with xchat-gnome and chromium windows,
and even gnome-panel once or twice. The window content is drawn
correctly, but shows an outdated picture that doesn't represent the
current state. For example, scrolling, going back in history or opening
a new tab in chromium appears to have no effect; applets added to a
newly created panel aren't shown.

There's a workaround: unmaximize the window and maximize it again. The
window gets redrawn correctly and doesn't get frozen again. For gnome-
panel the workaround is to open its properties and check/uncheck Show
hide buttons.

I have found that my work-laptop containing an intel chip also has

So something races during boot in relation to graphics. How is it
decided that low graphics-mode should be initiated?

Re: [Bug 228806] Re: [MASTER] various unrelated crashes for firefox-3.0 and xulrunner-1.9

2010-07-30 Thread Charles D. Foster
If I rememebr the upgrade issues started about 7.04 up to 7.10 then I have
never been able to use the new OS Upgrade unless I download it and start fresh
losing my apps. Now I save  it to a second hard drive so not to lose them.
So if ubuntu design teams actually reads this we all who love the OS , would
like a fix to this. I write somewhere on the forum bug fix whatever but never
find or get a fix for the issue.
Thank you Shannon for sharing this with all of us .
I twould be funny if you and I are the only ones participating  in this
Launchpad report..
Ubuntu has a winning item and I don't know the pains they have in providing
this to us, but I would love more ease of upgrade to the system.
