[Bug 823878] Re: bind interfaces only requires a manual change to /etc/init/smbd.conf

2012-12-25 Thread Borim
A solution for the future can be the use of the network-services event.
It is mentioned in the upstart cookbook
(http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#networkservices) and Bug #701576
also target the introduction of this event.

In the cookbook it is announced for 11.10.

I checked the existence of the network-services event with Ubuntu 12.10
by starting Ubuntu with the debug switch. But I can not find the
network-services event in /var/log/dmesg where all triggered events are
listed.

So I guess the network-services event is still not implemented. In the
case the network-services event gets added, smbd should use it to fix
this bug.

Hello Christopher,

I hope this email finds you well.

Things are getting really tough and boring for me. I tried the same
instruction and receive a message the no such file or directory exists.
When I open the crash folder it is empty.

The system is not stable and the libreoffice is still crashing !

I don't want to shift back to windows and I still believe in this great
project and would do the best to contribute to its success, but please help
me process my daily work on it without shifting back.

I can imagine the loads of work you do and can imagine the pressure you are
under, but still feel happy for your success, which makes weak people like
me to add more pressure asking for your professionalism.

Please advise.

[Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0)

2012-12-25 Thread Philip Langdale
Dirk, As discussed above, mtpfs will never work with an Android 4.x
device due to how it uses libmtp. No updates to libmtp will ever change
that.

As for your mtp-detect error, that's likely due to another application
already talking MTP to the device (eg: if you'd attempted to mount with
mtpfs, or if gvfs ptp was trying to communicate with it - which will
happen automatically if you have a default Unity desktop, or if gvfs mtp
is communicating with it, if you're using my version of gvfs). The MTP
protocol only supports one application communicating with the device at
a time, so if another one tries to do connection initialization, the
device gets confused and can respond in fairly unpredictable ways.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-25 Thread Kayvan Javid
@Brian: As per my comment #590 i tried the Quantal 3.5 kernel from the
precise repo, and it did not help.

I have also given a fresh install of Quantal with its stock 3.5 kernel a
go on a spare drive I had lying around, and within 20mins of playing a
video in XBMC, hard lock.

Here is an Xmas present from me (well Canonical and the kernel devs
really), to everyone on this thread, just installed the mainline daily
build kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/daily/current/ which happens to now be 3.8, on my Quantal
fresh install, its been rock solid with an uptime of 14hours. Playing
video and using XBMC like this previously would have locked several
times by now.

Fingers crossed it has solved it for me, someone, somewhere has plucked
the needle from the haystack and this will go away in Ringtail, or
whichever distro gets 3.7 - 3.8 kernel.

If a patch to xorg-video-ati fixes a bug while using fglrx, that would be
 surprising indeed.

The component field of this report says Radeon. It's unlikely for fglrx
and radeon to be affected by one and the same bug. It's possible that
fglrx has a similar bug though.

[Bug 1093610] [NEW] Menu bar invisible

2012-12-25 Thread Jan Heitkötter
Public bug reported:

After starting Audacity, its main menu bar is invisible, though usable
after pressing F10 key. The menu bar will be displayed properly after
entering the Preferences dialog.

Removing Audacity's configuration directory does not help.

I've taken some screenshots to illustrate the problem.

[Bug 1093611] [NEW] After the last update, the scheduling of déjà-dup is not working anymore

2012-12-25 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Public bug reported:

Recently there was an update of the deja-dup package, and since then, I have
found that the scheduling is not working anymore.
I mean that I have turned on Automatic Backup, and set a backup every day.
This has always worked, since the installation of Ubuntu 12.04 last April, but
now no more. In the settings window is displayed that the next backup is for
today, but the backup never happens. Tomorrow it will be the same thing, and so
on.
To backup my data I have to start the process manually through the settings
window with the button Run backup now (or whatever it is in English).

[Bug 1093288] Re: Huawei modem assertion g_variant_is_object_path

2012-12-25 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Interesting; it didn't get any primary port according to:

Dec 23 07:01:15 alan-pc modem-manager[3599]: error Failed to organize modem
ports: (0) Failed to find primary port.
Dec 23 07:01:15 alan-pc modem-manager[3599]: marshal_object: assertion
`g_variant_is_object_path (path)' failed
Dec 23 07:01:15 alan-pc modem-manager[3599]: failed to marshal parameter 1 for
signal DeviceRemoved

Please, try to get debug logs as suggested before, to try to see what's
happening. I now have a Huawei e220 myself and cannot reproduce it.

[Bug 1077696] Re: mounted samba share stops working for file access

2012-12-25 Thread anapivirtua
** Description changed:

Ubuntu 12.10 - same problem when acessing SMB shares from two computers
same for shares both on Ubuntu 12.10 server, and a windows server.

- Reproduce;
+ Reproduce;
it helps if you play a video/movie using vlc or mplayer from share. the
file should be open for hours. (use pause)
  - when unpaused, the file will play fine.
-no new big files on that share will open, small files may work.
unmounting + remounting the SMB share may fixe the problem, but other
processes may be affected:
VLC - while stuck with such samba problem, is impossible to kill, same for
smplayer
  sudo killall vlc -s KILL
  .. will not kill it.
and so unmounting the share takes 10 attempts..

[Bug 1093626] [NEW] Ubuntu LiveUSB not working on USB 3.0

2012-12-25 Thread Teodori Serge
Public bug reported:

Hello,
Ubuntu cannot boot from a USB Drive when it is plugged in a USB 3.

I have a new Sony Vaio Ultrabook without an optical drive, but with only
2 USB 3.0 entries. I created with Unetbootin a bootable Ubuntu 12.10
amd64 USB disk. The PC starts in UEFI mode and Grub2 is launched, where
I choose Try Ubuntu. After one minute the Ubuntu loading screen
disappears, and a shell is opened BusyBox nad initramfs. A message
is also issued: The root device cannot be found

In the shell, I went to /dev and tried to find my USB drive, but it
wasn't there! In my opinion the Linux kernel in Ubuntu is unable to find
or use USB 3.0 ports during boot.

seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to

[Bug 1093626] Re: Ubuntu LiveUSB not working on USB 3.0

2012-12-25 Thread Teodori Serge
Well how am I supposed to do that if I can not boot? The shell launched has
only basic programs like cat, ls, etc.
Grub2 loads the kernel and its initramfs correctly, but then when control is
given to kernel, it is unable to use the device where it should find the root
filesystem.

If you want to reproduce the error, use a Sony Vaio SVT1312V1ES,
meanwhile I will try to get more details about this problem and the PC
USB ports.

[Bug 374927] Re: Sparse package doesn't run on 64 bits system

2012-12-25 Thread Dave Gilbert
Hmm, this is a bit messy

On raring:
  sparse t.c
/usr/include/stdc-predef.h:30:11: error: unable to open 'bits/predefs.h'

so I add a -I:
sparse -I/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu t.c
/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/gnu/stubs.h:7:12: error: unable to open
'gnu/stubs-32.h'

then we have Stéphane's original error.

If I add another to point to the correct gcc path (sparse seems to be
using a non-existent one):

sparse -I/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu -D__x86_64__ -I
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.6/include t.c

almost works, although it's hitting a
/usr/include/stdio.h:347:41: error: attribute '__leaf__': unknown attribute

I guess the age of the sparse version doesn't help either.

Dave

[Bug 1090534] Re: Freeze when waking up from suspend

2012-12-25 Thread Benedikt Haus
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1089339 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089339

This problem occurs only when Ubuntu is installed in CSM mode (BIOS emulation +
MBR partition table) or when live CD systems are booted while in CSM mode.
In order to leave this CSM mode and use the native UEFI mode, I had to
install Windows 7 in UEFI mode. After doing that, suspend to RAM works in
Ubuntu live CD systems. It still works after installing Ubuntu and wiping
Windows. (I had to use boot-repair from ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair to get
Ubuntu to boot.)

In the
case the network-services event gets added, smbd should use it to fix
this bug.

I don't understand fully.
My installation uses the default windows installation. (UEFI), i then have
Ubuntu on a separate partition, and have used boot-repair to fix the boot.
What does i require do make suspend work?

Totally agree with Andrew Mcmillan here. This is not a duplicate. This
problem means the computer will never shutdown. I too had an NFS mount
defined in /etc/fstab and removing this means this computer now shuts
down in very good time. The fix from the original poster will work too.

[Bug 1088796] Re: Grub2 won't boot Win7 on hybrid msdos/ldm disk

2012-12-25 Thread Ronni
Well, your guess is as good as mine. At least it boots up if I edit
grub.cfg to boot it as an MSDOS disk, so it's not problem, just a bother
if grub updates the config.

Whether Windows will boot from a dynamic disk; this is the way the disk
has been setup from factory and when the disk is changed to the primary
disk it boots up fine as well.

Raymond, the output is below. BTW I will not have access to the problem
computer for further testing for awhile.

As for your question about front audio panel, there is only one mic and
one headphone jack.

As for jack states, I'm not sure I understand.

[Bug 1093643] [NEW] When printing PDF files, halfway trough printer restarts from first page with garbled text/collors

2012-12-25 Thread Lucas
Public bug reported:

When I print a PDF file, somewhere halfway in the printing process the
printer restarts from page 1.

On the pages already printed, colours don't look right. On the first
page after it restarted printing, text is in the wrong font, on another
place on the page then it should be, and colour isn't right either.
Subsequent pages are OK.

This happens each time I print a PDF file double sided. Might also occur
when printing other files or single side, I have not tried that yet.

3) What I expected to happen:
The document to get printed from first to last page with colours and font and
layout similar to the document displayed on screen. I'm really happy with my
printed document.

4) What happened instead:
The document got printed, first few pages where OK except for colours, then the
printing restarted from the first page, first page completely messed up,
subsequent pages somewhat OK. Lots of paper wasted, and unhappy user.

Added a picture of the most misprinted page, this is the first page of
the document second time it is printed in the same print job. For
comparison, it should look like

[Bug 1093640] Re: package python 2.7.3-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: cannot access archive: No such file or directory

2012-12-25 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1093644] [NEW] Blank screen on resume from suspend

2012-12-25 Thread Vsevolod Kukol
Public bug reported:

when resuming from suspend, the screen remains blank, while the system
ist still operational (logging in using ssh works).

* restarting X doesn't help (sudo restart lightdm through ssh)
* disabling KMS (nomodeset) doesn't help, still blank screen after pm-suspend
* updating to xorg-edgers kernel 3.7.0-7 doesn't help
* mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ (3.8.0.999) didn't
work either
* playing around with acpi_os_name had no effect

I tried following the debugging instructions from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend, but I have no
/sys/power/pm_trace (even on mainline kernel)

The system is a brand new Samsung 535U3C-A03 with an AMD A4-4355M
(integrated Radeon HD 7400G).

[Bug 1093644] Re: Blank screen on resume from suspend

2012-12-25 Thread Vsevolod Kukol
** Attachment added: dmidecode.log

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093644/+attachment/3467584/+files/dmidecode.log

** Description changed:

when resuming from suspend, the screen remains blank, while the system
ist still operational (logging in using ssh works).

  * restarting X doesn't help (sudo restart lightdm through ssh)
  * disabling KMS (nomodeset) doesn't help, still blank screen after pm-suspend
  * updating to xorg-edgers kernel 3.7.0-7 doesn't help
  * mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ (3.8.0.999) didn't
work either
+ * playing around with acpi_os_name had no effect

I tried following the debugging instructions from
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend, but I have no
  /sys/power/pm_trace (even on mainline kernel)

The system is a brand new Samsung 535U3C-A03 with an AMD A4-4355M
  (integrated Radeon HD 7400G).

[Bug 1088796] Re: Grub2 won't boot Win7 on hybrid msdos/ldm disk

2012-12-25 Thread Phillip Susi
I forgot you said it worked with the other config. This is odd. If you
run ls /, do you get the same results with the modified config as with
the regular one?
