Systemd-networkd crashes with core dump, this happends in Yakkety and
  Xenial.

that broke this.
Everything works just fine with Xenial without latest update or Yakkety Beta
2.

The log entries i see is:

+
+ SRU TEST CASE: See
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/4371#issuecomment-253697041
+
+ Regression potential: Very low, this just fixes an obvious type cast in
+ networkd and touches no code that applies to other network interfaces.
+ The service manager (pid 1) and other tools are entirely unaffected.

[Bug 1632575] Re: systemd starts two copies of ntp at boot time

2016-10-17 Thread Marius Gedminas
Unfortunately there were more unattended upgrades that require a reboot
since I filed this bug, so systemd-analyze can't see what happened any
more.

As for systemd service files, I believe ntp has none. systemctl status
ntp says

Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/ntp; bad; vendor preset: enabled)

which AFAIU means it's still using legacy sysvinit scripts.

[Bug 1634335] Re: nautilus windows does not fit

2016-10-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1634335/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1543280] Re: Synaptic fails with "W: Can't drop privileges for downloading as file '/root/.synaptic/tmp//tmp_sh' couldn't be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)"

2016-10-17 Thread Kristian Erik Hermansen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1522675 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1522675

The "fix" from John Ortiz is not a solution because it opens users up to
a security vulnerability where anyone / apps can hijack and gain root
privileges. This is now a security issue.

Man, this bug is a big show stopper for me. I use Chromium on my

not been able to use this feature since this bug came about.

[Bug 1634325] [NEW] Lenovo X250 failes to suspend after being docked

2016-10-17 Thread Jason Moore
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X250 and the ThinkPad Ultra Dock docking
station which is connected to two Lenovo monitors via DisplayPort.
Docking works fine but if I remove the computer from the dock and try to
suspend, the computer locks up (screen freezes no keyboard commands
work) and I have to hard reboot. The computer works fine after removing
from the dock except for this suspend issue.

[Bug 1634234] Re: apt-key leaves files in /dev open after exit

curtin is also busted in cases where the user provides a 'keyid', or
even a 'key' (data inline).

It seems we can/should probably make add_apt_key_raw write data to
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d ourselves rather than using apt-key.

overlayroot=crypt:dev=/dev/vdb,pass=somepass,mkfs=0

Which works when I create the LUKS device ahead of time, and set the
passphrase 'somepass'. But when I try

overlayroot=crypt:dev=/dev/vdb,mkfs=1

or just

overlayroot=crypt:dev=/dev/vdb

I get no overlay after reboot. I have also tried the "debug=1" parameter
and I'm not getting any debug output either. Where are the logs and/or
where should I be able to see the debug output?

As Dustin has so eloquently documented, it defeats the privacy of your
encryption if you have to specify the passphrase in clear text in your
unencrypted read-only directory. So the only way I will be using this is
if I can use the simple "overlayroot=crypt:dev=/dev/vdb" one-liner and
have the passphrase generated automatically on boot.

According to this discussion http://askubuntu.com/a/815056 on
Askubuntu.com, it is matter of an issue with the installer (virt-install
looking for i386 installer but should be looking for amd64 installer).
The bug is reportedly fixed on upstream, but not available yet for the
packages.

[Bug 1634271] Re: arm64: kprobes disabled

2016-10-17 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- kprobes are not available on arm64, a useful debug feature available on all
other supported Ubuntu architectures. I failed to catch this when I reviewed
the yakkety config because I was just looking for regressions vs. enabling new
features (arm64/kprobes is new in 4.8).
+ kprobes is currently enabled for all Ubuntu architectures except arm64. This
excludes a useful debug feature, which is required by certain userspace
provided by Ubuntu, such as perf's probe command. I failed to notice this in my
yakkety config review because it is a new feature in v4.8.

  [Test Case]
- sudo perf probe schedule
- sudo perf record -e probe:schedule -aR sleep 1
+ = Failure case =
+ ubuntu@arm64:~$ sudo perf probe schedule
+ kprobe_events file does not exist - please rebuild kernel with
CONFIG_KPROBE_EVENTS.
+ Error: Failed to add events.
+
+ = Success case =
+ ubuntu@arm64:~$ sudo perf probe schedule
+ Added new event:
+ probe:schedule (on schedule)
+
+ You can now use it in all perf tools, such as:
+
+ perf record -e probe:schedule -aR sleep 1
+
+ ubuntu@arm64:~$ sudo perf record -e probe:schedule -aR sleep 1
+ [ perf record: Woken up 1 times to write data ]
+ [ perf record: Captured and wrote 0.185 MB perf.data (61 samples) ]

  [Regression Risk]
The proposed fix enables a config for an already-upstream feature, so
regressions will have upstream support. The config change mostly results in
building new code vs. modifying existing code. The notable exception is that
arm64's notify_page_fault() will now get code to call kprobe_fault_handler() -
but only in the case that this newly enabled feature is being used (if
kprobe_running()).

[Bug 1628289] Re: snapd should depend on squashfuse (for use in containers)

2016-10-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Stéphane, or anyone else affected,

Accepted squashfuse into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squashfuse/0.1.100-0ubuntu1~ubuntu16.04.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1634298] [NEW] X11rdp server does not close session properly when client network dies

2016-10-17 Thread Vladislav Roussinov
Public bug reported:

- Observed under Ubuntu 14.04.
- X11rdp installed using the X11rdp-o-matic script
- Connect from a Windows 7 or 8 machine through a remote desktop connection

X11rdp stores the session related files into /tmp/.xrdp directory. Once
connected several socket files are created in the /tmp/.xrdp directory;
once the user disconnects from the session if the sesman.ini is set to
keep the session alive for the client to be able to resume working after
he reconnects a file named xrdp_chanserv_session_xx is created into the
/tmp/.xrdp directory. once the client reconnects to the given xx session
this file is removed from the location.

However if the client's internet is cut off even for a second and he doesn't
have the possibility to disconnect from the RDP session the mentioned
xrdp_chanserv_session_xx file is not created. When the client tries to
reconnect he only sees a grey screen. the xrdp session is never "released"
automatically and the only way to reconnect to the X11rdp host is to restart
either the xrdp service or the host by itself, in this way losing the initially
created session.
i'm adding an extract of the xrdp.log showing how the client is trying to
connect to the server and after several attempts it gives up due to the missing
xrdp_chanserv_session_xx file.

Hi. I found out how i can reproduce the error: bei deleting the .log files
from /var/log/. So there is still the question why these files disappear
accidentally from time to time...

[Bug 1510344] Re: Keyboard Backlight Turns on at boot

2016-10-17 Thread Cristian Contescu
OK, apart from the dbus denying in #98 which helps with the turning
fully on when the screen locks, in order to avoid the backlight turning
on during boot time, you need to mask (it cannot be disabled) the
systemd-backlight@leds\:dell\:\:kbd_backlight service:

sudo systemctl mask systemd-
backlight@leds\:dell\:\:kbd_backlight.service

Hope it helps until a proper fix is released.

Cheers,
Cristi

[Bug 1634234] Re: apt-key leaves files in /dev open after exit

2016-10-17 Thread David Kalnischkies
That isn't directly the fault of apt-key. It uses gpg which in its >=
2.0 versions has split its operations into a multitude of daemons for
security reasons. The daemons should be terminating themselves a few
seconds after the directory they operate in disappears. That is at least
the case for gpg-agent, but "a few seconds" is obviously too slow if you
are in a hurry, so apt-key tries to kill it via gpgconf --kill gpg-agent
(which isn't supported in all gpg version, but at least in the one in
ubuntu I hope). The manpage tells me that this isn't supported for
dirmngr through, which is the daemon left in your case, so solving that
from the apt-key side isn't exactly easy (short of implementing a sub-
subprocess supervisor in shell script…) so I would feel tempted to
declare that the problem of gpg and invalid for apt-key.

That said, your apt-key command is bad and should be replaced. Getting
keys from a keyserver is hopelessly insecure (it is better with recent
gpg versions) but still: Your use of a short-keyid screams security
problem due to easy collisions and hkp is a cleartext protocol so just
asking for MITM (and at least older gpg versions do no checks at all on
the received key(s)).

I guess the simplest & best solution is to ship the key in your preseed
script and drop it with an appropriate name (ending in .gpg) in
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ – as a bonus, your system will not need gnupg
installed (at least in terms of apt), gpgv will be enough.

[Bug 1510344] Re: Keyboard Backlight Turns on at boot

2016-10-17 Thread Cristian Contescu
The same problem on a Dell Latitude E5570:
- keyboard goes on full full-brightness at boot time
- keyboard turns on after screen lock exactly when the screen goes off (even if
the keyboard backlight is off)
- the auto turn-off after the specified amount of time (set in the BIOS and
visible in the /sys/class/leds/...) is completely dismissed - the keys stay on
all the time

$ cat /sys/class/leds/dell\:\:kbd_backlight/stop_timeout
10s
