[Bug 1831134] Re: Pods Cannot allocate memory, even with memory_over_commit_ratio set 10.0

2019-06-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Good to know Blake, thanks.

IMHO you should consider this a low prio, but very nice to have item.
Without it seems like calling for trouble later on.
Cases are:
a) Like John here unable to start guests they expected to be able to
b) (more critical) people that also changed vm.overcommit_memory to allow the
initial alloc breaking hard later on.

In a perfect world I'd envision a slider like this:

Overcommit ratio:
1.0*   10
|--||

* The recommended upper limit at (PhysMem-15%)+Swap
That way it would still be under the full control of the user, but this bug
here would not grow into a common issue.

Until such code that adds something like an "upper recommended bound" is
written you could just make things more clear with a comment at the
slider maybe?

Therefore I'd be happy if you would consider this as a feature request.

@John - from your POV are you fine for now with the explanations or is
there something else that was missed but is needed for you?

[Bug 1549388] Re: In some rare cases Postfix connect to a wrong MX server

2019-06-02 Thread Hector Martin
Lovely, so Ubuntu did nothing about this nasty bug (sending mail to the
wrong servers (!!!)) for 3 years, when all it required was a simple
package minor version bump, and now 14.04 support has ended and they can
wash their hands.

This kind of nonsense is why I don't recommend Ubuntu.

This is a bug report about QETH interfaces, which are an s390x-specific

`pavucontrol` [pulse audio volume control] and in the last Configuration
tab, turn off your sound [profile]. Count to 1 (ie. a short delay) then
return the profile setting to what it was before (ie. re-enable your
sound to your default or favorite profile).

Does sound return? (if it does, it'll be for the current session only;
this won't be permanent)."

and it did not work. I did this after resuming from suspend and no sound.
Even after doing this I still had no sound. Only way I have found so far
to get sound back is to shut off and then turn on, or to restart.

One of the issues is being addressed upstream:

So we can avoid merge diffs about this in the future (and I can refer
upstream patch for this particular fix).

2019-06-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

If you wake your system and it has no sound, can you please go to
`pavucontrol` [pulse audio volume control] and in the last Configuration
tab, turn off your sound [profile]. Count to 1 (ie. a short delay) then
return the profile setting to what it was before (ie. re-enable your
sound to your default or favorite profile).

Does sound return? (if it does, it'll be for the current session only;
this won't be permanent).

[Bug 1697122] Re: Package Firefox with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in environment to enable pixel scrolling with touchpad and touch gestures

2019-06-02 Thread Nate Graham
it's annoying for me too. The problem is that setting the envar just
substitutes some problems with different ones:
- Without this envar set, there is no touchscreen scrolling, and touchpad
scrolling goes three lines at a time rather than pixel-by-pixel
- With this envar set and a notification appears, touchpad scrolling is
interrupted and mouse wheel scrolling stops working entirely until Firefox is
de-focused and re-focused

The correct solution is to fix these bugs, not toggle between two broken
states. Chromium has different scrolling bugs, BTW.

[Bug 1830096] Re: Firefox 67 in Ubuntu 18.10 thinks it's an older version

2019-06-02 Thread Jonathan Johnsson
For those who come here and can't wait until this fix is released
(thanks for your hard work, people fixing this!) you can find
workarounds here (I can't say if the workarounds are safe or not):

https://old.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/brjj82/firefox_67_thinks_its_an_old_version_and_wont/

Running
MOZ_ALLOW_DOWNGRADE=1 firefox --ProfileManager
from bash worked for me, since I accidentally created a new profile when
exploring my options, and had to switch back to my original profile. I now have
access to my session, bookmarks and containers again.

[Bug 1831392] [NEW] input-libinput-hwe 0.28.1-1 touchpad cursor jumpinput-libinput-hwe 0.28.1-1 touchpad cursor jumpy and inaccurate y and inaccurate

2019-06-02 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

After upgrading x to hwe touchpad cursor is jumpy and inaccurate.
Ubuntu 18.04.02 (4.18.0-20-generic) thinkpad x240
libinput 1.10.4-1
input-libinput-hwe 0.28.1-1

I assume that my earlier version was 0.27.1-1. It was working smoothly.

I don't want to change touchpad drivers to synaptic because only
libinput supports multi touch gesture on my hardware.

2019-06-02 Thread Jonathan Johnsson
I just upgraded from 18.10 to 19.04, since it looked like a good time
given the release cycle, and I have this problem.

How do I "manually installing the Firefox 67 build for Ubuntu 18.04" (as
mentioned in the description)? In my case I guess it would be "Firefox
67 build for Ubuntu 18.10".

[Bug 1697122] Re: Package Firefox with MOZ_USE_XINPUT2=1 in environment to enable pixel scrolling with touchpad and touch gestures

2019-06-02 Thread uman
If this bug is not going to be fixed soon, I suggest Ubuntu should
bundle another browser in the next release.

Maybe it doesn't make a difference for people who are not used to using
a touchpad on other browsers (or Firefox on other OSes), but this bug
made Ubuntu-on-laptop absolutely maddening to use for me and I assume
for many others as well.

[Bug 1776475] Re: Unlocking existing session often requires several attempts.

2019-06-02 Thread gouri
## Thanks @vdrok

> automatically lock the session - when the screensaver is activated
> delay locking after screensaver for - 5 seconds
> lock screen when system is going to sleep - checked

Hmm, on my system the delay was set to something small (perhaps even 0).

## Thanks @mag3sh

> From further investigation, I noticed that chrome-remote-desktop was
starting Xsession and this was causing issues. I removed that package
and it fixed the issue.

I have no such thing as `chrome-remote-desktop` on my machine.

## Workaround (works for me)

This workaround was suggested by the fact that logs say everyting is
fine. Perhaps the session happens to be locked again before even
displaying?

* open xfce4-settings-manager,
* click icon "power manager",
* click tab "security",

Set like this :

* automatically lock the session - when the screensaver is activated
* delay locking after screensaver for - **15** seconds
* lock screen when system is going to sleep - checked

Thank you for your attention.

[Bug 1831388] [NEW] Wrong Scrolling Direction in Wi-Fi Networks Box

2019-06-02 Thread Jordan Taylor
Public bug reported:

To reproduce the bug:

Natural scrolling is turned on for trackpad scrolling.

2. Click "Wi-Fi Not Connected" to expand the wifi info
3. Click "Select Network"
4. Scroll in the box titled "Wi-Fi Networks" subtitled "Select a Network" using
a trackpad

Rather than scrolling up on trackpad causing the list of networks to
scroll down it scrolls in the direction of motion on the trackpad,
violating the selected natural scrolling setting

[Bug 1831387] [NEW] pkg-config returns bad paths

2019-06-02 Thread Stanislaw Pitucha
Public bug reported:

The pkg-config values for this package seem invalid:

root@6eedf8391cfd:/kalibrate-rtl# pkg-config --libs librtlsdr
-L -lrtlsdr
root@6eedf8391cfd:/kalibrate-rtl# pkg-config --cflags librtlsdr
-I/

This seems to effectively break compilation which relies on pkg-config.

Tested on 19.04

[Bug 1831386] [NEW] "fake" RAID 0 or RAID10, dmraid -tay reports incorrect size

2019-06-02 Thread Martina Nunvarova
Public bug reported:

Follow-up on:

https://askubuntu.com/questions/113561/how-to-modify-fix-incorrectly-
detected-dmraid-fakeraid-raid-10-array

I am not certain that dmraid is the cause of this error but it may be
the best place to start looking for it.

This issue was raised on askubuntu 7 years ago without a meaninful
reaction - therefore i do not want to rely on escalation from there.

Hence the assumption that a 32 bit integer is used for the number of

[Bug 1789059] Re: continual GUI freeze

2019-06-02 Thread Daniel Schürmann
** Also affects: mixxx (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
  Several times using the master branch with Qt 5.10.1 on Fedora, the GUI
  has completely frozen. At first I thought it might be related to using
  my touchscreen because it happened a few times within a minute or two of
  using my touchscreen with the overview waveforms. That seems to be a
  coincidence though because I just encountered the bug again without
  using my touchscreen at all. When this occurs, the audio keeps playing
  until the end of the track, which allows for a relatively graceful
  recovery if this happens during a performance (which has happened to me
  a few times now). I can tell the controller thread still runs okay
  because LEDs light up when I press buttons. However, there is no change
  in the audio from manipulating my controller. Unfortunately I have no
  idea how to reproduce this. The best idea I have currently for
  attempting to debug this is to run Mixxx in a debugger until the bug
  happens by chance.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Use Mixxx with the effected setup and verify that there is no GUI
+ deadlock.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Due to the changed way of building the GUI elements there might be
+ visual regressions. Nothing known though.

[Bug 1804513] Re: Cosmic: Mixxx 2.1.3 is not stable with Qt5

2019-06-02 Thread Daniel Schürmann
> The issues mentioned to be caused by the 'buggy' version do seem to be
high-impact, but from what I understand the application is still usable
- is that correct?

It depends on the definition of usable. You can start the application
play tracks, but it may stop a party, which is the most critical bug we
can think of. We actually do not know the effects very well, because the
cosmic build linked with Qt5 has bypassed our quality management. The
Mixxx 2.1.3 was tested and released with Qt4.8 only. It is strongly
recommended to not use this build because of that.

> Looking at the source, it looks to me that there is quite a lot of
unit-tests defined - are those being run during build time?

Most unit tests are unit testing against regressions inside the audio
engine. The tests are linked in a own binary, not the production binary
build on Launchpad, so we cannot detect link and packaging issues like
we face here. We execute them automatically in each PR and before
release on our own CI.

But IMHO the situation is way better now, thanks to the delay here: Mixxx 2.2.0
was released on 11th January, almost 6 month ago and it has landed in various
distros without mayor complains:
https://repology.org/project/mixxx/versions

> Finally, if we decide to include this SRU in our stable series, the
manual testing story will have to be improved.

Yes, some "smoke tests" with the production binary should be done help
such situation is not repeated.

I will update the test cases and the linked bugs.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   Mixxx 2.1 a Qt4 release was accidentally linked against Qt5. It suffers
  some critical issues which are fixed in the 2.2 release linked against
  QT5 the outstanding issues are:

   * GUI freeze due to a Xlib deadlock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1805559
   * Various GUI freezes and leaks https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1789059
   * No scaling with HiDPI screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1744861
   * Wrong waveform size and position with GLSL
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1530697

   Other non critical changes are:

   * Vectorize remaining raster graphics for better HiDPI support.
   * Add mix mode switch (Dry/Wet vs Dry+Wet) for effect units.
   * Add support for LV2 effects plugins (currently no way to show plugin GUIs).
   * Add preference option for selecting which effects are shown in the list of
available effects in the main window (all LV2 effects are hidden by default
and must be explicitly enabled by users).
   * Add 8 sampler and small sampler options to LateNight.
   * Add key / BPM expansion indicators to Deere decks.
   * Add skin settings menu to LateNight.
   * Add controller mapping for Numark Mixtrack Platinum.
   * Update controller mapping for Numark N4.
   * Add spinback and break for Vestax VCI-400 mapping.
   * Add preference option to adjust the play position marker of scrolling
   * Add preference option to adjust opacity of beatgrid markers on scrolling
waveforms.
   * Support IRC/AIM/ICQ broadcast metadata.

  The full list of bugs can be found here:
  https://launchpad.net/mixxx/+milestone/2.2.0

  [Test Case]

   * Start Mixxx on the console

   * Watch out for "Debug [Main]: Qt: 4.8.7"

   * all 2.1 Version must report a qt major 4 version and all 2.2 Versions
     must report a qt major 5 version

+ * Watch the GUI for random artifacts
+
+ * Load an mp3 track via drag and drop from Nautilus. Is the waveform shown
correctly?
+
+ * Play the track. Does it play without sound artifacts?
+
+
  [Regression Potential]

   Mixxx 2.2 was mainly the Qt5 release with many fixes around Qt. There
  are no known regressions since the release 2018-12-17. Using this
  settled version has less regression potential compared to back porting
  the QT5 fixes to Mixxx 2.1

  [Other Info]

   * The Debian upstream packages have been updated to 2.2.0

https://packages.debian.org/buster/mixxx
  https://packages.debian.org/sid/mixxx

   * See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/mixxx/+bug/1768148 for some
  history.

[Bug 1831140] Re: GNOME Magnifier Flickering when using none-full screen modes

2019-06-02 Thread Lee Clark
I couldn't figure out why I didn't see the issue in my VM. But
additional testing shows the issue in the VM. It depends on which
windows are visible. If you close all windows and return to the desktop
it always occurs.

Also enabling the 'Magnifier extends outside screen' checkbox also
causes the issues.

I've had a stab at working out what the problem is. I have an idea which
I have posted to the upstream bug report. But I've no way to test this

[Bug 1831384] [NEW] .desktop files not working in Ubuntu 19.04 Gnome

2019-06-02 Thread Jean-Christophe Baptiste
Public bug reported:

I use several instances of Firefox, that I usually launch from various
launchers.

For example, I have a `firefox-test.desktop` file in
`~/.local/share/applications`, that contains:

```
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Firefox-Test
StartupWMClass=firetest
Exec=firefox --new-instance --no-remote -P Test --class firetest %u
Icon=firefox-developer-icon
Terminal=false
Type=Application
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;text/mml;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
Keywords=web;browser;internet;pentest;
Actions=new-window;new-private-window;
```

It worked for ages, in many DE, including GNOME in 18.04.

But, in 19.04, clicking on my launchers does nothing.

On the other hand, the commands works from the terminal:

```
firefox --new-instance --no-remote -P Test --class firetest
```

2019-06-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1576326] Re: Xdg .desktop, .directory and mimetype files missing in the package

2019-06-02 Thread jre
@carlix and @pemartins

First off, please read this comment carefully and assume good will. It
might sound quite negative to you at first, but I'm really trying to see
what can be changed, and therefore try different view points on this
topic.

I can only check the comments in the Software-Center in Debian. There I
see an upvoted, 5-star comment with some explanations why "Launch" in
the Software Center cannot work, and later lots of 1-star "doesn't work"
comments. That makes me wonder if adding Wine to the "Software Center"
was the right decision. With multiarch (i386 needed on amd64 systems)
and workarounds as described in appdb.winehq.org needed for specific
programs, I still wonder if going the graphical way really helps people
(being able to right-click on an application to "Start with Wine", but
not seeing any error messages, might cause more trouble then help. And
expecting that you can "Launch" Wine is completely off). So my personal
feeling is to not lower the entry barrier too much, in order to not make
people having false expectations. In that way I think about removing
Wine from the Software-Center again.

Now, ignore that for now, and let's consider other options:

You gave me one example of comments about the right-click thing, so you
want the wine.desktop file installed. Regarding the security-
implications, and fileroller being preferred anyway: I don't think this
assumption is true on every system (based on what I remember from the
last time I had a thorough look at this). So this would need some
investigation first. Maybe there's a way to ensure Wine is not the
preferred application automatically.

However, I'm thinking about a new package "wine-desktop-integration",
which installs wine.desktop and maybe other things (e.g.
winecfg.desktop, which so far nobody here did care to submit upstream :(
). Would such a "wine-desktop-integration" package help? Or do you want
this stuff in the "wine" package itself? For the former I could just
put a warning in the package, for the latter the security issue needs to
be solved for sure, but even then I expect some opposition e.g. for
"cluttering menus".

@pemartins: Please elaborate. What system/desktop environment (DE) are you
on? Does your DE allow you to put files on the Desktop at all? Do you have an
applications menu?
E.g here (Debian Buster with Gnome as DE) I have the setting "Tweaks ->
Extensions -> Applications Menu" enabled, and see the installed Windows
application as expected in the "Applications - Wine" menu. I can also start
installed programs after hitting the "Super/Windows" key. However I just
noticed that Gnome 3.28 completely removed the option to show files on the
Desktop. You need e.g. the nemo-desktop file manager to keep this feature. So
I suggest you verify the contents of these folders (note that they might use
translated names on your system, or be configured completely different):

$HOME/Desktop
$HOME/.local/share/applications/wine/Programs
$HOME/.local/share/desktop-directories

If you find the files there, or after a search somewhere similar in your
home folder then Wine already works as expected, and the issue is
somewhere else.

Is there anything else in the Ubuntu comments, that is actionable?

Are there any packages/distributions which do, what your request here
(except the "old" Ubuntu packages which were superseded by "our"
packages)? E.g. as @pemartins confirmed, the wine-staging packages by
upstream (winehq.org) don't do this (and I guess that is for the reason
I stated in the beginning). So I'm interested in seeing if and what
others did.

[Bug 1831375] [NEW] Pride Month themed Wallpaper for Ubuntu

2019-06-02 Thread Jeb E.
Public bug reported:

I have a small idea for the Ubuntu community and brand image: Why not
put out a "Pride Month" themed default Ubuntu wallpaper? This could be
pushed to users as part of an update to the Ubuntu Wallpapers package as
an additional wallpaper and feature a light addition of the  rainbow
color spectrum easily added in GIMP or Inkscape.

Why not, I mean? Everyone is doing it, from Microsoft to Apple. This
will show a little support to the LGBT community and the world.

 Status: Confirmed
