[Bug 1869558] Re: After the update of "grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93.16+2.02-2ubuntu8.15" ubuntu doesn't boot (Block device required error)
I'm not sure if it's even the same bug, but my system now boots normally using grub2 1.93.16+2.02-2ubuntu8.15, but i have to manually edit the boot entry at bios, and use the file /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi, instead of /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/shimx64.efi (and now I'm unable to use secure boot). So, is there some problem between my bios and shimx64.efi? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1869558 Title: After the update of "grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.93.16+2.02-2ubuntu8.15" ubuntu doesn't boot (Block device required error) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1869558/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1872266] [NEW] Activities missing stuff when using dual monitors
Public bug reported: This is mostly just cosmetic, but when I use a second monitor with my laptop, and click the Activities in the upper left-hand corner, it looks like it is missing the bottom half of the icons for the applications, and perhaps other things I'm searching for. [Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts
I reproduced this with Win10 x64 up to date on 4/11/2020 and the stock "quick create" versions of Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.10 as referenced and selected from the Hyper-V manager. Default options all the way. No updates installed after initial installation. This machine has AMD Ryzen 7 3800X and 32GB memory, NVMe SSD system drive -- it's fast. Default network adapter for the VMs. ipv6 enabled or disabled on underlying NIC and the vEthernet default switch (I tried both ways). 18.04 goes from "start" to X login in 11 seconds, including having to press through a console "error: no such device: root / press any key to continue" glitch. 19.10 goes from start to a Grub menu in about 3 seconds. 11 more seconds through console message about Spectre mitigation, then the Ubuntu splash screen of 5 dots on purple background, then console cursor holds for about 1:40. Then X login finally. System load during the long delay on network, disk, CPU under 5% during this time. Then suddenly a flurry of console messages followed by X login window. Seems very clear that the boot process is waiting for a long failed timeout somehow before proceeding. By accident I discovered the following with 19.10. Select "system startup" from the grub menu. Result is Windows logo screen "Hyper-V UEFI / No boot devices were found." The "restart" button is not functional, have to "power off" the VM because "shutdown" fails. Re-power on without closing the connection window, and 19.10 proceeds through same sequence from "start" to X login in about 12 seconds: spectre mitigation message on console, Ubuntu splash, console cursor, then possibly the flurry of console messages (but so fast invisible), then X login. I can get through the sequence above of grub "system startup" then power-off, then restart to the X login from scratch in 25 seconds, whereas about 120 seconds if I just start and wait through the timeout. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1848534 Title: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1848534/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872258] [NEW] GS injects invalid metadata, causing "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored"
Public bug reported: Hi! GNOME Software currently injects invalid AppStream metadata in Focal, causing a complaint message like "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." on every APT update. I don't know as squid, named and samba (to name a few) generate many denials trying to read /proc/sys/kernel/random/boot_id. None of those are explicitly trying to use the DynamicUser feature. [Bug 1872001] Re: 5.3.0-46-generic - i915 - frequent GPU hangs / resets rcs0
This is probably the same as bug #1871867, can you confirm? I've had this bug ever since upgrading to Ubuntu 18.10 (i.e. the Linux 5.3 kernel series). However before the 5.3.0-46-generic update (when I was on 5.3.0-45-generic and earlier versions), I had this issue (freezes of around ~10s) only a few times per day. After the 5.3.0-46-generic update, this bug happened several times per hour, sometimes repeating in the timeframe of minutes. Though I only rarely get the "GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x, hang on rcs0" message prior to the "Resetting rcs0 for hang on rcs0" message, for what's it worth. To put this into numbers, from April 4 to April 9 (daily usage), I only got 6 freezes, whereas since the update to 5.3.0-46-generic (which I performed on April 10), I've got 122 hangs already. This makes using the whole system really annoying. There are some interesting discussions about this bug on https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=250765, though note that there seem to be multiple bugs and it got worse with later kernel versions, including unrecoverable freezes on kernel 5.4 (which were reported in Ubuntu as bug #1861395). I've reverted to Linux 4.19 LTS mainline kernel from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ for now, and haven't had any more freezes yet. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872001 Title: 5.3.0-46-generic - i915 - frequent GPU hangs / resets rcs0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1872001/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1863434] Re: 20.04 grub menu not visible
I'd like to add myself into the mix here . . . with a recent apt update/upgrade in both Lu 20.04 and U-MATE 20.04 . . . "grub" and a few other packages were run and subsequently the visible grub page that shows my 5 linux installs was wiped . . . leaving only the ubuntu systems as bootable in my '12 MacPro. I have a somewhat "complicated" set up with multi-booting OSX and linux in two out of three drives, but until this recent round of ubuntu updates I never had a GUI window open in the console saying, "grub doesn't know where to go, where should it go?" . . . and then having a "universal" effect on "grub" such that only ubuntu was showing from one EFI disk image. The first time I ran this I was in Lu 20.04 . . . and that busted up grub pretty good, had to get my SG2 disk out and after numerous reboots was able to find my way to an older OpenSUSE based grub window . . . and then I could boot the various other options . . . . But it was only after running the Lu upgrade that this problem happened. I posted to Lu-devel list serve . . . waiting for a reply on that one. To "fix" the problem I booted into Lu 20 and I chrooted over to the OpenSUSE filesystem Yast and used their os-prober . . . and rebooting a number of times I found that indeed "grub" was using the TW grub window and I was able to choose among a few of my systems. While I was doing that I rebooted into U-MATE 20.04 today and ran an apt update/upgrade and sure enough there again was "grub" and a few other "grub" packages . . . for scientific purposes I just ran it . . . and around 95% of the install, again the GUI window opened asking me, "Grub can't find itself, where do you want grub to go?" This time I checked all three of the options, and after finishing the upgrade I rebooted into OSX bootmanager and this time two out of three disks only booted U-MATE?? So the ubuntu "grub" seems to be commandeering the controls and setting grub to just boot . . . itself??? >From the console in U-MATE 20 I repeated my maneuver of chrooting into TW and running the os-prober . . . once again I have a "main grub" menu . . . visible to my aging eyes. . . . Seems like there is some kind of issue working around through the various OSs using EFI boot and grub . . . I believe I had a similar issue over in TW a few months back, which is what got me to the "chroot" solution . . . and possibly in Siduction as well . . . problem still seems to be happening . . . . -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1863434 Title: 20.04 grub menu not visible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1863434/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Well, my approach was very simple : mail notification in terminal has worked for decades, I used in the 2000s, so why not use it again if it suits me ? They're not on an ISO yet but if you can try with the edge snap, you'll get a subiquity with these patches. https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/how- to-test-the-latest-version-of-subiquity/12428 has a few ways you can do this. [Bug 1872250] [NEW] ubutustudio-controls usb bridge control does not work when device is plugged in
Public bug reported: What is expected: changing the state of the "Bridge USB Devices to Jack When Plugged in" checkbox and then clicking the "Apply Audio Settings" button should either add or remove the USB device from the jack graph. However, if bridging is turned on and the device is plugged in: Selecting no bridging and applying will make the device vanish from the jack graph and then come back within a second. If the bridging is turned off and a device is present: Selecting bridging on and applying shows no action at all. If the device is not plugged in when the bridging is turned on or off, the seetting works correctly the next time a device is plugged in. [Bug 1872247] [NEW] activities overview area is too small on the primary display
Public bug reported: Precondition: the desktop is set to span 2 displays (or maybe more but I only have 2 displays). When the activities overview is invoked (e.g., after pressing the 'windows' key), the area where you see window thumbnails and search results is too short on the primary display. It is OK on the secondary display. The bug occurs if: - Display mode is "Join Displays" - The physical display setup has the primary display under the secondary display. As per the settings/display application, assuming display 1 is set to be the primary display, the bug will occur with the following physical display setup: 2 1 <-- (primary is display 1 and it's the one at the bottom) It doesn't matter which of the two displays is set to be the primary display. If display number 2 is set to be the primary one, and the physical display setup is like this: 1 2 <-- (primary is display 2 and it's the one at the bottom) then the bug also occurs. The bug doesn't occur in other physical display setups (e.g., side by side, or the primary on top). The bug doesn't occur when the display mode is "Mirror" or "Single Display". --- lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Focal Fossa (development branch) Release:20.04 apt-cache policy gnome-shell gnome-shell: Installed: 3.36.1-4ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.36.1-4ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.36.1-4ubuntu1 500 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: gnome-desktop3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "screenshot of the whole desktop. [Bug 1872053] Re: Local mail is never checked
I'd take one step back and ask the question: Why would anyone one a graphical system need to run a terminal emulator in order to get notified about new mail? Per https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rapid-photo-downloader this should be marked as Fix Released, so I'll mark as such. Damon, unfortunately, it's one week until Final Freeze, so unless Timo sees this and makes a new FFe, it's unlikely to happen. I can only approve from a Flavor Lead perspective, I have no control over the release team or the archive admins that are the ones that let packages in/updated in the archive beyond beta freeze. I approve from the perspective that, since the package is in the default installation for Ubuntu Studio, that it can affect that. That said, I'd gladly approve it, but it's not completely up to me at this point. ** Changed in: rapid-photo-downloader (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released ** Changed in: rapid-photo-downloader (Ubuntu) Assignee: Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871315 Title: FFe: rapid-photo-downloader 0.9.20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rapid-photo-downloader/+bug/1871315/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872235] [NEW] package shared-mime-info 1.9-2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shared-mime-info package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127
Public bug reported: When doing a distro-upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 shared-mime-info broke the whole process throwing errors about libicu60, which was installed as new in the upgrade process. While the system was broken, I forced a reinstall of libicu60 (apt install --reinstall libicu60) which then allowed shared-mime-info to be installable.
