I have tagged it as update regression and bumped the priority.
Rafael is working on a fix already (thanks!).
Furthermore we reset the phasing of [1] to reduce the number of people getting
the update.

And thanks for the report Victor and Bill.

P.S. I have added a todo to the regression tests to add such a iothread
config to catch this earlier next time.

I have uploaded a source package that overseeds existing bionic version
at:

So anyone facing this issue can keep the PPA and have a mitigated
version for now.

[Bug 1885663] [NEW] RTL8822BE wifi regression

2020-06-29 Thread Philip Johnson
Public bug reported:

This wireless adapter worked well under 18.04.4 (kernel 5.3) but has
poor range after installing 20.04 (kernel 5.4). This is testing a
2.4GHz connection. While the received signal strength appears to be the
same with either kernel, the transmitted signal is much weaker under the
5.4 kernel (as assessed from the wifi access point running OpenWrt): the
5.4 kernel yields ~10-20 lower dBm than the 5.3 kernel. This greatly
reduces the usable wifi range.

To summarize testing:
5.3.0-28-generic (Booting off a 18.04.4 live USB) shows good signal.
5.4.0-39-generic (latest supported on 20.04) is problematic
5.6.0-1011-oem (installed from standard repos) is problematic
mainline kernel 5.8.0-050800-generic shows good signal.

Ideas to further narrow down this regression?

[Bug 1885419] Re: QEMU crash using virtio-scsi with iothread

2020-06-29 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thanks for the feedback.

It looks like this happens because of:

/*
 * There cannot be two concurrent aio_poll calls for the same AioContext (or
 * an aio_poll concurrent with a GSource prepare/check/dispatch callback).
 * We rely on this below to avoid slow locked accesses to ctx->notify_me.
 */
assert(in_aio_context_home_thread(ctx));

added by the last update:

qemu (1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.27) bionic; urgency=medium

  * d/p/ubuntu/lp-1805256*: Fixes for QEMU on aarch64 ARM hosts
- aio: rename aio_context_in_iothread() to in_aio_context_home_thread()
- aio: Do aio_notify_accept only during blocking aio_poll
- aio-posix: Assert that aio_poll() is always called in home thread
- async: use explicit memory barriers (LP: #1805256)
- aio-wait: delegate polling of main AioContext if BQL not held
- aio-posix: Don't count ctx->notifier as progress when polling

[Bug 1801626] Re: secureboot-db installs new vars without explict owner permission

2020-06-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
$ systemctl cat secureboot-db.service  | grep Condition
ConditionPathExists=/sys/firmware/efi/efivars/db-d719b2cb-3d3a-4596-a3bc-dad00e67656f

If db is empty, the var doesn't exist, and secureboot-db.service does
not run.

If db is populated, we populate dbx, to prevent known vulnerable

** Description changed:

  [Availability]
This is a meta package for https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM
that means the package doesn't exist in Debian or Ubuntu archive yet.
- oem-sutton.newell-cadby-meta 20.04~ubuntu1 for focal in
ppa:oem-solutions-engineers/oem-projects-meta
+ oem-sutton.newell-cadby-meta 20.04~ubuntu2 for focal in
ppa:oem-solutions-engineers/oem-projects-meta

  [Rationale]
We want to improve the hardware support for ThinkCentre M70s/t, M80s/t and
M90s/t on focal.

  [Security]
  No CVE/known security issue.

  [Quality assurance]
I have used ppa:oem-solutions-engineers/oem-projects-meta to check this
package on ThinkCentre M70s/t, M80s/t and M90s/t and it works as expected.
oem-sutton.newell-cadby-meta will be upgraded to 20.04ubuntu1 or latest
version from OEM archive.

  [Dependencies]
  It only depends on ubuntu-oem-keyring.

  [Standards compliance]
This package should have met all requirements of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM.

  [Maintenance]
Canonical OEM Enablement Team will take care of the maintenance.

  [Background information]
  Please check https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MIRTeam/Exceptions/OEM for details.

Please make sure you have attached the debdiff generated by the "oem-
metapackage-mir-check" script from lp:ubuntu-archive-tools into the bug

[Bug 1885417] Re: rxe_cfg is missing

2020-06-29 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
You're right.. it is funny because that man page exists for eoan. Focal
should not have that man page (and it does not when checking existing
source packages). Somehow the man page was copied in
"manpages.ubuntu.com" 20.04 session).

Bionic

rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man5/iwpmd.conf.5.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man7/rxe.7.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/iwpmd.8.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/rdma-ndd.8.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/rxe_cfg.8.gz

Eoan

rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man5/iwpmd.conf.5.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man7/rxe.7.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/iwpmd.8.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/rdma-ndd.8.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/rxe_cfg.8.gz

Focal

rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man5/iwpmd.conf.5.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man7/rxe.7.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/iwpmd.8.gz
rdma-core: /usr/share/man/man8/rdma-ndd.8.gz

Nevertheless, you're probably looking for:

/usr/share/doc/rdma-core/rxe.md

now: it shows that you should use "rdma" command in order to configure a
soft-roce (RXE) device:

iproute2: /usr/bin/rdma

And the "rdma" command comes with iproute2 package.

I'm moving this bug to Ubuntu project.

Does the problem still happen if you disable the user-theme extension?
You can disable it in the 'Extensions' app (gnome-shell-extension-
prefs).

[Bug 1885330] Re: System unresponsive to keyboard and mouse clicks when changing screen background

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If the mouse cursor still moves then that means Xorg is still running
and it was gnome-shell frozen. But we need to find out if it was just
frozen or the result of a crash. Please use this command:

  pidof gnome-shell

to check the process ID before and after the freeze and tell us if it
changes.

Also immediately after the next freeze please run:

  journalctl -b0 > post-freeze.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1885552] Re: gnome shell crashes if screen is locked

2020-06-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I suggest you start by removing these extensions as we find extensions
cause a lot of bugs:

'dash-to-pa...@jderose9.github.com',
'walkpa...@walkpaper.blinkbp.github.com', 'system-
moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com', 'clipboard-indica...@tudmotu.com',
'appindicatorsupp...@rgcjonas.gmail.com', 'openweather-
extens...@jenslody.de', 'workspace-indicator@gnome-shell-
extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'binance_ticker_moni...@jiraiya279.gmail.com', 'sto...@infinicode.de',
'dynamic-panel-transpare...@rockon999.github.io', 'panel-
o...@berend.de.schouwer.gmail.com'

If the problem still happens without extensions then please follow these
steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1885240] Re: LED clock display jumbled on virtual console

2020-06-29 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

The next step is to identify whether this bug is present in the upstream
project, introduced in Debian packaging, or introduced in Ubuntu's
modifications. If Ubuntu has not introduced the problem, we should get a bug
filed in the appropriate upstream bug tracker. Are you able to help with

[Bug 1580731] Re: augeas-lenses filter for PHP files doesn't match php7.0-* files

2020-06-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've reproduced the issue and verified Jon's PPA fixes it. I've respun
his patch to update the version (there's been one security update since
his PPA) and added DEP3 info while I was at it. I've posted the
refreshed work to my own PPA:

  https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/ubuntu/augeas-sru-lp1580731

I can carry the SRU forward for this.

[Bug 1884288] Re: LapBook Pro touchpad (HTIX5288:00) sometimes does not work when machine is restarted

2020-06-29 Thread Ian Hand
No worries Califa, I was basically saying that it looks like a signal
integrity issue where there are errors with reading the touchpad driver
when laptop is starting up after a restart or shutdown.

An older bug issue on another forum seemed to have come across this, in
both Arch Linux and Ubuntu:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=231540

The user at the very end of that page describes exactly what you
experience with Windows working fine.

[Bug 1882042] Re: [SRU] Linux, Ubuntu, 18.4, CI, OLP15, PRTS, Audio/video is out of sync/lag when enter Suspend during playback

2020-06-29 Thread Hui Wang
And updated the [Potential Regression Risk].

thx.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Users reported the audio and video is out of sync when entering suspend
during playback on bionic.

  [Fix]
The mainline pulseaudio already has the fix for this issue, and the fix is
already in the eoan, focal and groovy, but it is not in the bionic.

  [Test Case]
open a online video on the firefox, while it is playing, suspend the system,
wait for 30 seconds, resume the system, the audio and video is still on the
sync.

- [Regression Risk]
+ [Potential Regression Risk]
Low, these 2 patches are already in the mainline pulseaudio, and already in
the eoan, focal and groovy.
+
+ Most of the change is in the suspend/unsuspend on alsa sink/source, the
potential regression risk is the playback/recording stops working after
+ machine suspend and resume or playback/recording has an obvious discontinuity
before suspend and after resume. I have done the test on a Lenovo and a Dell
machine, the playback/recording worked well after resuming.

Install the 18.04 on a Lenovo and a Dell machine, run apt-get dist-
upgrade.

Open Software & Update, enable bionic-proposed

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install pulseaudio
check the puleaudio is 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.9

Open the browser and play a online video from sohu.com, suspend the
machine, wait for 20s, resume the machine, the sound and video is still
in sync.

[Bug 1580731] Re: augeas-lenses filter for PHP files doesn't match php7.0-* files

2020-06-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Automation of configuration editing cannot be done for PHP installations
+ on Xenial using augeas. The location of php configuration files moved
+ in php7, to a directory augeas doesn't look in.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ - Create lxc container
+ $ sudo apt-get install php7.0-cli
+ $ sudo apt-get install augeas-lenses augeas-tools
+ $ augtool ls /files/etc/php
+ ## (no output)
+ - Add the PPA
+ $ augtool ls /files/etc/php
+ 7.0/ = (none)
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Since this makes the PHP configuration accessible to augeas where it
+ wasn't before, behaviors to watch for would relate to php configuration
+ issues when augeas (or puppet) are in use. It is expected that by now
+ most administrators will have worked around the problem by using some
+ other method to configure php, so it is unlikely users would experience
+ behavior regression.
+
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ This adds the "/etc/php/*/*/*.ini" path to the php lense for augeas,
+ following what upstream has done, and that we carry in newer versions of
+ Ubuntu.
+
+
+ [Discussion]
+
+ While it is true that Xenial is old at this point, enterprises that use
+ configuration automation software like augeas sometimes still need older
+ versions of Ubuntu (e.g. via ESM). PHP has been a popular choice for
+ many enterprises in the past, so it is expected that PHP 5 -> 7.0
+ upgrades are still relevant. So, given that, plus the simplicity of
+ this fix it seems still worthy of SRU.
+
+
+ [Original Report]
+
The filter list in /usr/share/augeas/lenses/dist/php.aug includes:
  /etc/php*/*/*.ini
  /etc/php*/fpm/pool.d/*.conf

This will match the php5-fpm package files:
  /etc/php5/fpm/php.ini
  /etc/php5/fpm/pool.d/*.conf

But not the php7.0-fpm package files:
  /etc/php/7.0/fpm/php.ini
  /etc/php/7.0/fpm/pool.d/*.conf

Puppet handles this badly because augeas won't report that anything has
changed trying to set options in /etc/php/7.0/fpm/php.ini, so it does
nothing instead of reporting an error:

Debug: Augeas[php_sessions](provider=augeas): Will attempt to save and only
run if files changed
Debug: Augeas[php_sessions](provider=augeas): sending command 'set' with
params ["/files/etc/php/7.0/fpm/php.ini/Session/session.gc_maxlifetime",
"604800"]
Debug: Augeas[php_sessions](provider=augeas): Skipping because no files were
changed
Debug: Augeas[php_sessions](provider=augeas): Closed the augeas connection
