[Bug 1845756] Re: lubuntu - strange movement of wallpaper on monitor.settings change (or next login)

2021-06-24 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu impish daily QA-test on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

adjust displays to match my setup (grr
https://bugs.launchpad.net/openbox/+bug/1845756).

Note: My first attempt to orient the screens to match my setup was
reversed (top at bottom, bottom at top) so it was adjusted a second time
quickly... it was after this re-adjustment that top monitor was black &
my-bottom-monitor contains op of wallpaper..

logged out, login again and still wallpaper on my bottom display (top
half), no wallpaper on top display...

right-click on top display black-background shows openbox menu, right-
click on bottom display (with wallpaper) shows lubuntu/lxqt menu

And please download and install the latest amd64/build generic deb files
in https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.13-rc7/ (see
section "How do I install an upstream kernel?" in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds) and reboot, let us know
if the problem can still be reproduced and paste your "uname -a" command
output in a terminal (ctrl+alt+t) here.

[Bug 1933289] Re: bleachbit fails to launch as root in Ubuntu 21.04

2021-06-24 Thread Andrew Ziem
First, please update to a new version. The latest release is version
4.3.0 beta, which will soon be 4.4.0 stable with little change. There's
also 4.2.0 stable that is much newer than version 3.9.

Ubuntu has a "no rolling release policy," so its repositories will not
keep BleachBit updated. You can find newer versions here

https://www.bleachbit.org/download
https://www.bleachbit.org/news/bleachbit-430-beta

If you experience this problem in a new version, then please review the
comments in this discussion of the same problem
https://github.com/bleachbit/bleachbit/issues/562 .

If you can add more information about this problem happening with a new
version of BleachBit, please report it here
https://github.com/bleachbit/bleachbit/issues/new/choose

[Bug 1921539] Re: Add support for SBAT

2021-06-24 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
the one mario uploaded to bionic queue missing the debian/rules change.

I put one with those change in https://launchpad.net/~ycheng-
twn/+archive/ubuntu/fwupd-bionic-sbat-1

per quick check, the major diff from current one in debian buster are
the two arm patch:

0010-uefi-capsule-Sync-linker-scripts-with-latest-used-by.patch
0011-uefi-capsule-Include-crt0-for-arm-and-aarch64-that-a.patch

juliank think we don't need those, so I didn't include them.

[Bug 1933452] Re: secondary portrait monitor is not portrait during boot

2021-06-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This is somewhat related to bug 1873164. In both cases they are
landscape displays that just don't yet know which way is up.

Since we don't have access to the user monitor config (or know which
user) during boot, it's not possible to find out that way. It is however
sometimes possible to read from the monitor over i2s bus which way it is
rotated. I've never seen that implemented in real software though.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => plymouth (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- secondary portrait monitor is not portrait during boot
+ Portrait monitor is not portrait during boot

[Bug 1932548] Re: [Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201] Video conferences constantly freeze when I am on wireless [8086:a0f0]

2021-06-24 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
@skidooman

1. the ucode should be in /lib/firmware, please check kernel log, if the latest
firmware is loaded
$ journalctl -k | grep "loaded firmware version"

2. the iperf test for local area network performance, you need such scenario
your PC (with problem) <-Wireless-> Access Point <-Ethernet-> Any PC (testbed)

Install iperf3 on both side PC $ sudo apt install iperf3
For testing Tx, run client command on your PC and server command on test bed.
For testing Rx, run server command on your PC and client command on test bed.

server command: $ iperf -s -i 1
client command: $ iperf -c  -t 100 -i 1

you can monitor the throughput instantly on client side. the key point
is the rate should comply your Wi-Fi selected modulation and stable.

For example, you can see the bit rate by running $ iwconfig, the
throughput roughly should be the half of the theoretical rate, which is
the bit rate you are using now, sometimes it may constraint by the bus
speed, but that's the other story. I think the most important part for
video conference is stability, you can focus on that.

[Bug 1930641] Re: memory leak in xorg-server 2:1.20.9-2ubuntu1.2~20.04.2

2021-06-24 Thread Jan Newmarch
I swapped my environment (gnome-fallback, chromium-browser, evolution,
libreoffice, gnome-terminal) for a vanilla env of ctwm, xterm and
firefox. After 4 days the memory usage stayed at 0.6%. Confirm that it
is not a bug in xorg but in one of the other apps, as suggested by
Daniel. So I need to check all other apps to see which one is causing
the memory use and report it to the offending one. I've changed the
status of this bug report to invalid. Thanks Daniel!

[Bug 1931136] Re: Don't unhook ExitBootServices() when EBS protection is disabled

2021-06-24 Thread dann frazier
I was able to reproduce this w/o any chainloading. Just booting a
hirsute image in QEMU w/ SecureBoot enabled was enough. I verified that
I'm still seeing this issue w/ the current hirsute cloud image:

BdsDxe: loading Boot0001 "UEFI Misc Device" from
PciRoot(0x0)/Pci(0x1,0x2)/Pci(0x0,0x0)
BdsDxe: starting Boot0001 "UEFI Misc Device" from

I then mounted the image externally, updating only shim-signed:

Unpacking shim-signed (1.48+15.4-0ubuntu5) over (1.47+15.4-0ubuntu2) ...
Setting up shim-signed (1.48+15.4-0ubuntu5) ..

After that, the image booted up fine.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  This is a regression in shim 15.4 that causes a crash in shim when
chainbooting.

  Also, the machine resets when you exit grub, rather than going back to
  the EFI shell when launched from it.

  [Test plan]

- TODO for the chainboot, something similar to
- https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/8770
-
- For grub exit, we can easily launch VM and then EFI shell and then load
- shim from in there, type exit in grub and should be back to EFI shell.
+ Boot an Ubuntu hirsute image in Secure Boot mode. While this issue was
+ originally seen while chainbooting in
+ https://github.com/lxc/lxd/issues/8770 - it was shown to be also
+ reproducible just by booting a hirsute instance.

  [Where problems could occur]
  In exiting shim, failure to boot, etc.

[Bug 1933555] [NEW] Needs new package libstringprep-java

2021-06-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libscram-
java/2.1-1/+latestbuild/amd64

libscram-java (1.0.0~beta.2-3 to 2.1-1) is not transitioning due to a
dependence on a package in Debian's New:

Migration status for libscram-java (1.0.0~beta.2-3 to 2.1-1): BLOCKED:
Rejected/violates migration policy/introduces a regression
Issues preventing migration:
libscram-java unsatisfiable Build-Depends-Indep on amd64:
libstringprep-java (<< 2.0)
missing build on all
blocked by freeze: is a key package (Follow the freeze policy when applying
for an unblock)

libpgjava requires libscram-java, so is also blocked.

There's probably nothing we need to do on the Ubuntu end except wait for
this to go through in Debian.

I was able to backport these changes to our 4.15 kernel and get it
booting w/ the MDS workaround enabled. One option is to SRU those (and a
number of follow-up Fixes: changes for them). Presumably that's of some
security benefit, though I'm not sure how significant of one. It also
isn't clear exactly why those changes are needed for compat with the
firmware MDS workaround.

[Bug 1933391] Re: FTBFS with PHP 8.0 on Impish

2021-06-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
One of the reasons the original patch did not apply is because php7-ext/
got merged into php-ext/ at one point (commit
b8d29e9f58440f1d75bddf77df3d25fd6367af20 specifically).  The files in
the two directories are roughly similar, though, and as along as same
changes are applied to both then we should be fine.

Another reason the patch doesn't apply is due to refactoring the
wrappers to new API calls that this version doesn't have.

The patch also updates the php test, but in our version we don't even
have the test framework in place to run it. Easiest to just omit the
test case change.

Anyway, working through all that I got a buildable package. I'm going
to go ahead and directly upload it, so we can get openldap & co. moving
but when you're back from vacation I'd appreciate if you'd give the
patch a glance over to sanity check.

The autopkgtests failed in my local environment, but it's not "clean" so
may have tripped over past database entries. So it may get stuck
migrating, but at least having the built package in -proposed will let
some things process a bit further.

[Bug 1933550] [NEW] libapache2-mod-shib2: Installation fails because of unmet dependencies

2021-06-24 Thread Jon Green
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainers,

I'm seeing the following error when trying to install the libapache2
-mod-shib2 package. This causes the package to fail to install.

```
$ sudo apt install libapache2-mod-shib2
Reading package lists... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
Depends: libshibsp7 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxmltooling7 (>= 1.6.0-5) but it is not
```

There are no "held broken packages" on this system.

System information:
```
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
```

Package information:
```
$ apt-cache policy libapache2-mod-shib2
[Bug 1931725] Re: initramfs-tools & kernel: use zstd as the default compression method
2021-06-24 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
@cborntra
v5.13 ubuntu kernel's s390 configuration with zstd -22 --ultra
compression is 8.5 MB, whereas gzip -9 is 11M.
Thus for gzip to win at bootspeed the decompression speed has to
compensate for 2.5M of i/o and be faster than zstd.
Unaccelerated decompression comparison still gives me faster
decompression with less i/o with zstd compressed kernel image.
At Canonical we still do not have z15 mainframe available for us to
benchmark this.
[Bug 1743247] Re: B2 Python APIs are missing
2021-06-24 Thread Kenneth Loafman
Two options for now:
- upgrade to the _latest_ (dev) version of duplicity,
- revert to b2sdk==1.7.0 until duplicity 0.8.20 is released
To revert do: _sudo pip install -U b2sdk==1.7.0_
There are multiple options for latest:
- Latest snap builds - “sudo snap install duplicity —classic —edge"
- Latest pip3 builds - “sudo pip3 install --pre duplicity"
- Latest duplicity PPA -
https://code.launchpad.net/\~duplicity-team/+archive/ubuntu/duplicity-develop-git
Note 1: UNINSTALL duplicity first if it was installed from a different
source..  This is due to divergent install locations, especially between
repository installs and the other forms.
Note 2: Launchpad PPAs contain builds for Bionic 18.04, Eoan 19.10,
Focal 20.04, Hirsute 20.10 and Impish 21.04.
Note 3: Xenial 16.04 works with Snap and Pip installs, but cannot be
built under Launchpad PPAs at the moment.
[Bug 1452641] Re: Static Ceph mon IP addresses in connection_info can prevent VM startup
2021-06-24 Thread Peter
We have the same issue with Rocky.
One of my SQL wizard colleague helped me with some query, which can change the
block_device_mapping table, and the RBD host/username/ports (if you change the
number of ceph monitors, you'll need it)
Since we have multiple Zones, and our change will only affect Zone1, and
since we have iSCSI storage too, we needed a bit more precise query.
Also my colleague pointed out, that the connection_info is JSON, and
since the MariaDB 10.2.3 have support for json, he used them, just to be
sure not to mess up the syntax.
So the three query (use with caution, and - of course - your own risk!):
update block_device_mapping as b set connection_info =
json_replace(connection_info, '$.data.auth_username', 'dev-r1z1-c4e')
where instance_uuid in (select i.uuid from instances as i where
i.deleted_at is null and i.availability_zone = 'Zone1') AND
JSON_EXISTS(b.connection_info, '$.data.hosts') = 1 and b.deleted_at is
NULL;
update block_device_mapping as b set connection_info =
json_replace(connection_info, '$.data.hosts', JSON_ARRAY("10.1.58.156",
"10.1.58.157", "10.1.58.158")) where instance_uuid in (select i.uuid from
instances as i where i.deleted_at is null and i.availability_zone = 'Zone1')
AND JSON_EXISTS(b.connection_info, '$.data.hosts') = 1 and b.deleted_at is NULL;
update block_device_mapping as b set connection_info =
json_replace(connection_info, '$.data.ports', JSON_ARRAY("6789", "6789",
"6789")) where instance_uuid in (select i.uuid from instances as i where
i.deleted_at is null and i.availability_zone = 'Zone1') AND
JSON_EXISTS(b.connection_info, '$.data.hosts') = 1 and b.deleted_at is NULL;
[Bug 1927868] Re: vRouter not working after update to 16.3.1
2021-06-24 Thread Jorge Niedbalski
Hello,
I reviewed the code path and upgrade in my reproducer, following the approach
of upgrading neutron-gateway and subsequently neutron-api doesn't works because
of a mismatch
in the migrations/rpc versions that causes the ha port to fail to be
created/updated,
then the keepalived process cannot be spawned and finally the
state-change-monitor
fails to find the PID for that keepalived process.
If I upgrade neutron-api, run the migrations to head and then upgrade
the gateways, all seems correct.
I upgraded from the following versions
root@juju-da864d-1927868-5:/home/ubuntu# dpkg -l |grep keepalived
ii  keepalived   1:1.3.9-1ubuntu0.18.04.2
 amd64Failover and monitoring daemon for LVS
clusters
root@juju-da864d-1927868-5:/home/ubuntu# dpkg -l |grep neutron-common
ii  neutron-common   2:15.3.3-0ubuntu1~cloud0
 all  Neutron is a virtual network service for
Openstack - common
--> To
root@juju-da864d-1927868-5:/home/ubuntu# dpkg -l |grep neutron-common
ii  neutron-common   2:16.3.2-0ubuntu3~cloud0
 all  Neutron is a virtual network service for
Openstack - common
I created a router with HA enabled as follows
$ openstack router list
+--+-++---+--+-+--+
| ID   | Name| Status | State |
Project  | Distributed | HA   |
+--+-++---+--+-+--+
| 09fa811f-410c-4360-8cae-687e7e73ff21 | provider-router | ACTIVE | UP|
6f5aaf5130764305a5d37862e3ff18ce | False   | True |
+--+-++---+--+-+--+
===> Prior to upgrade I can list the keepalived processed linked to the
The reason for those keepalived processes not re-spawned is
1) The ml2 process starts the router devices by requesting a rpc call on the
device details. This
one fails with different oslo target versions.
Therefore is required for the neutron-api migrations to be applied
before the gateways.
2021-06-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.  Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware.  I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation.  Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware.  In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!
[Bug 1933541] [NEW] Groovy update: upstream stable patchset 2021-06-24
2021-06-24 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:
SRU Justification
Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:
[Bug 1933540] [NEW] duplicity falsely reports B2 python SDK not installed, fails backup to B2
2021-06-24 Thread Noxy
Public bug reported:
Description:Ubuntu 21.04
Release:21.04
duplicity:
  Installed: 0.8.17-1build1
  Candidate: 0.8.17-1build1
  Version table:
 *** 0.8.17-1build1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hirsute/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
What I expected to happen: duplicity successfully backs up to B2 when I
run `duplicity ~ b2://@`
What happened instead: duplicity immediately fails with the error
"BackendException: B2 backend requires B2 Python SDK (pip install
b2sdk)".
duplicity was working fine for me backing up my local machine to BackBlaze B2,
when I was running 20.10. After upgrading to 21.04, now I get this problem.
Both b2 and b2sdk are installed by pip and pip3, with and without sudo.
I do use pyenv to manage different Python versions but pyenv global is
set to system when I use pip to try to troubleshoot this, so this should
not be interfering
[Bug 1871963] Re: dpkg fails to install grub-efi-amd64 signed and shim-signed
2021-06-24 Thread Pieter De Wit
I am seeing this too (late upgrade to the system)
For me, this is caused by /usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install:
# /usr/lib/grub/grub-multi-install
mount: /var/lib/grub/esp: special device /dev/sdb1 does not exist.
I have a /dev/sdb, but it's a raw disk, no part. table
# ls /dev/sdb*
/dev/sdb
Thanks :)
[Bug 1933539] [NEW] Intermittent messaging errors: 'NoneType' object has no attribute '__getitem__'
2021-06-24 Thread Zachary Zehring
Public bug reported:
Package Versions
python-oslo.messaging/bionic,now 5.35.0-0ubuntu1
python-amqp/bionic,now 2.2.2-1
Description
===
We have a customer who keeps experiencing issues with Heat stack
creations/deletions. After investigation, we found that Openstack services
(neutron, nova, heat itself, etc) can encounter an error with RMQ message
passing, where the service involved gets a MessageDeliveryFailure [0] and the
stack fails. This failure can manifest at any point of the creation/deletion
and can lead to instances being stuck forever in the BUILD state and other
oddities.
>From the error output, it looks a lot like a previously fixed issue for
py-amqp where a connection closure causes channel issues [1].
Workaround
==
None found so far other than retrying the Heat stack creation/deletion.
[Bug 1933391] Re: FTBFS with PHP 8.0 on Impish
2021-06-24 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
I have few more additions to this bug. Whilst I am still struggling with
the after-effects of the first shot, I'd like to mention them here so as
to hopefully unblock others or at least give ideas that might help.
If you check the condition of the package, it's sort of broken. At least
the autopkgtest. Check the Debian tracker: all red (:/) and there's an
RC bug for that, too. This means that even if you get around to
"building" this, there will still be autopkgtest failure. I haven't yet
inspected what the problem is but I know that it's going to bite us here
as well. So just fixing the build isn't the only thing we're trying to
achieve here.
Furthermore, if you see, the package has been removed from testing
because it's not suitable for a stable release. Going along those lines,
I think I would personally prefer to ask the AA to remove this package
from the "release" pocket and just let it be there in the "proposed"
pocket until things are fixed in Debian or at least we have somebody
here who cares for this. And I am pretty sure that it's reasonable
enough to ask this.
Once this happens, the package would no longer be a problem for openldap
or anything else. In case it sees a fix then, awesome, else, oh well!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Personally, I don't think it's worthy of fixing this unless we *really*
care about it, which looks unlikely. Thoughts?
[Bug 1933361] Re: Audio Problem, soundcard not detected
2021-06-24 Thread Víctor
Why do I need to install nothing when an Ubuntu Update is installed?
It has no sense. The Ubuntu Update must have all the things that the
update need.
I have installed this:
sudo apt install linux-generic
and this:
sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04
but it doesn't work.
This bug is also a problem on focal. When trying to install in a
container, the service fails to start with:
I can confirm that the ConditionVirtualization=!container directive
added to the service file addresses the issue.
[Bug 1933391] Re: FTBFS with PHP 8.0 on Impish
2021-06-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
I took a shot at backporting the patch, however no sign of mapi.so in
the build log; I gather something more is involved than just this patch
to get php8 working.
Regarding the idea of removing php-mapi and z-push, it looks like z-push
is just an enhancement to kopano.  I don't think we'd risk breaking
anything beyond kopano if we removed it for impish.  We could then re-
evaluate it down the road when debian has moved to php8.
