[Bug 1673016] Re: Tomcat7 post installation script does not honor dpkg-statsoverride entries

2021-10-05 Thread Miriam España Acebal
Hi,

the affected version here ( 8.5.16-1) belongs to Artful which reached
EOSS (End of Standard Support) so I'm afraid it can't be fixed.

The bug was fixed in Debian for 8.5.38-2+rm version, and tomcat8 is
present in Xenial with a lower version (8.0.32-1ubuntu1.13 ) (EOSS too)
and in Bionic with a higher version (8.5.39-1ubuntu1~18.04.3) (so it's
fixed for this). For this reason, I will mark the bug as "Won't fix".

** Changed in: tomcat8 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Triaged => Won't Fix

[Bug 1836694] Re: memcg_test_3 from controllers in LTP failed with Bionic/Focal/Hirsute

2021-10-05 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
More test results, it will take about:

* 50 minutes to run on F-gcp-5.11 g1.small
* 38 minutes to run on B-gcp-4.15 g1.small
* 40 minutes to run on H-gcp-5.11 g1.small
* 36 minutes to run on X-gcp-4.15 g1.small

Also, it will take about 7m30s on I-azure-5.13 Standard_B1ms

So I think a 60 min timeout (LTP_TIMEOUT_MUL=12) should be OK.

Theres a significant delay after apt completes the step "Fetched 23.1 MB

[Bug 1946149] Re: Bionic/linux-aws Boot failure downgrading from Bionic/linux-aws-5.4 on r5.metal

2021-10-05 Thread Ian May
** Description changed:

When creating an r5.metal instance on AWS, the default kernel is
  bionic/linux-aws-5.4(5.4.0-1056-aws), when changing to bionic/linux-
- aws(4.15.0-1113-aws) the machine fails to boot 4.15 kernel.
+ aws(4.15.0-1113-aws) the machine fails to boot the 4.15 kernel.

If I remove these patches the instance correctly boots the 4.15 kernel

  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-September/123963.html

- But after successfully updating to the 4.15 without those patches
- applied, I can then upgrade to a 4.15 kernel with the above patches
- included, and the instance will boot properly.
+ With that being said, after successfully updating to the 4.15 without
+ those patches applied, I can then upgrade to a 4.15 kernel with the
+ above patches included, and the instance will boot properly.

This problem only appears on metal instances, which uses NVME instead of
  XVDA devices.

AWS instances also use the 'discard' mount option with ext4, thought
maybe there could be a race condition between ext4 discard and journal
flush. Removed 'discard' mount and rebooted 5.4 kernel prior to 4.15
kernel installation, but still wouldn't boot after installing the 4.15
  kernel.

I have been unable to capture a stack trace using 'aws get-console-
output'. After enabling kdump I was unable to replicate the failure. So
there must be some sort of race with either ext4 and/or nvme.

[Bug 1946149] Re: Bionic/linux-aws Boot failure downgrading from Bionic/linux-aws-5.4 on r5.metal

2021-10-05 Thread Ian May
** Description changed:

When creating an r5.metal instance on AWS, the default kernel is
  bionic/linux-aws-5.4(5.4.0-1056-aws), when changing to bionic/linux-
aws(4.15.0-1113-aws) the machine fails to boot 4.15 kernel.

If I remove these patches the instance correctly boots the 4.15 kernel

  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-September/123963.html

But after successfully updating to the 4.15 without those patches
applied, I can then upgrade to a test kernel with the above patches
included, and the instance will boot properly.

This problem only appears on metal instances, which uses NVME instead of
  XVDA devices.

AWS instances also use the 'discard' mount option with ext4, thought
maybe there could be a race condition between ext4 discard and journal
flush. Removed 'discard' mount and rebooted 5.4 kernel prior to 4.15
kernel installation, but still wouldn't boot.
+
+ I have been unable to capture a stack trace using 'aws get-console-
+ output'. I enabled kdump and was unable to replicate the failure. So
+ there must be some sort of race with either ext4 and/or nvme.

[Bug 1946175] [NEW] gnome disk cannot read SMART data (and self tests) from nvme

2021-10-05 Thread gdp77
Public bug reported:

It is impossible to select "SMART data and self test" option for nvme
disks. Nvme disks are becoming more common and this functionality should
be added.

I was able to read smart data from my nvme SSD using HDSentinel (linux
version). So it certainly can be done.

[Bug 1946131] Re: Corruption of display data

2021-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please attach a photo of the problem. Does it
occur in GNOME or just XFCE?

Also the attached Dependencies.txt seems to show a lot of packages
including graphics packages are from "unknown" origin and don't match
what should be in Ubuntu 21.10. If you can then I would recommend
reinstalling the OS and avoiding all PPAs.

[Bug 1930903] Re: Frequent kernel oops related to nvidia / nv_drm_master_set

2021-10-05 Thread Duane Johnson
Additional helpful insights from osmoticum on the Nvidia forum:

The Xorg modesetting DDX seems to be fighting with the Nvidia DDX for
DRM nodes

[ 463.657] (II) modeset(G0): using drv /dev/dri/card0

but

[ 463.658] (II) Applying OutputClass "nvidia" options to
/dev/dri/card0

Nvidia appears to be adding a lot of DRM related stuff to the kernel
driver (so it looks a lot like a real DRM driver to userspace now) and
the modesetting DDX is getting further into its initialization.

In my case, pointing the modesetting DDX to only look at non-Nvidia
devices (the kmsdev option) and ensuring all the Nvidia kernel modules
are fully loaded (instead of having them load on-demand) before starting
X worked around this. The latter is for some weird race condition where
the Nvidia driver is only partially loaded and
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/blob/master/config/udev.c#L135
fails, which causes modesetting to load regardless (it’s hardcoded in
xf86platformAddDevice)

The WARN_ON itself can still be triggered by simply opening a Nvidia
primary DRM node though, e.g. with
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/drm/-/blob/master/tests/drmdevice.c,
when some other DRM client like X or fbcon already has master. Because
of https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/367748 the Nvidia kernel
driver can no longer use its internal grabOwnership to report if DRM
master can be taken.

[Bug 1945842] Re: Newer kernel still has no display w/ KMS enabled

2021-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1944397 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1944397

Roger,

The kernel logs of bug 1945535 and bug 1945805 look like that and they
are both currently marked as duplicates of 1944397. In all cases the vc4
HDMI errors are recurring and take multiple forms even on the same
machine.

Also, if you want to report new issues in future then please open your
own new bugs.

[Bug 1945817] Re: Change default Amharic font from Abyssinica SIL to Noto Serif Ethiopic

2021-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hey @carnage-mode, where did you go? ;)

I have looked a bit more into this, and my understanding is that there
are two packages — fonts-sil-abyssinica and fonts-freefont-ttf — with
fonts which can render Amharic and which are installed by default on
Ubuntu.

But only by installing fonts-noto-core, without uninstalling any of the
others, I notice a significant difference at e.g.

since it makes use of "Noto Sans Ethiopic".

Final freeze for Ubuntu 21.10 is tomorrow, but if you confirm very soon
that it would be helpful, I can change it so that fonts-noto-core is
automatically installed if you install the Amharic language. If you
would like to see more extensive tweaks, it will need to be discussed
further after the Ubuntu 21.10 release.

Let me know.

[Bug 1944397] Re: HDMI does not display anything with Impish RPi desktop image

2021-10-05 Thread satmandu
@waveform The issue might be with the bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb...

sudo dpkg -i linux-firmware-raspi2_5-0ubuntu0~21.04~ppa1_arm64.deb ;
sudo flash-kernel --force 5.11.22-9021-raspi ; sudo reboot

Result: no video.

sudo dpkg -i linux-firmware-raspi2_5-0ubuntu1~ppa1_arm64.deb ; sudo
flash-kernel --force 5.11.22-9021-raspi ; sudo reboot

Result: no video.

cd /boot ; sudo cp dtb-5.11.22-9021-raspi
/boot/firmware/bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb ; sudo reboot

Result: Video!

sudo flash-kernel ; cd /boot ; sudo cp dtb-5.11.22-9021-raspi
/boot/firmware/bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb ; sudo reboot

Result: Video!

So maybe there's an issue with the bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb which the newer
firmwares are installing causing issues with the newer kernels?

Working firmware versions I am seeing that work with the older 5.11
bcm2711-rpi-4-b.dtb:

[Bug 1891785] Re: choose-w misaligned (regression)

2021-10-05 Thread gregrwm
A solution is available, with a updated copy of tmux, and a recipe, see:

http://github.com/tmux/tmux/issues/2636#issuecomment-817542083

** Bug watch added: github.com/tmux/tmux/issues #2636
   https://github.com/tmux/tmux/issues/2636

** Description changed:

choose-window produces a sensibly aligned list
  on centos7 (tmux-1.8-4.el7.x86_64):
  (0) 0: htop "umari"
  (1) 1: bash "umari"
  (2) 2: bash- "umari"
  (3) 3: bash* "umari"

  and ubuntu xenial (tmux 2.1-3build1):
  (0) 0: [tmux]- "jocur"
  (1) 1: bash* "jocur"

but more recent versions produce an annoyingly misaligned list due to the new
session line:
  (0) - 0: 4 windows (attached)
  (1) ├─> 0: man- (1 panes) "e540"
  (2) ├─> 1: bash (1 panes) "e540"
  (3) ├─> 2: ssh* (1 panes) "e540"
  (4) ├─> 3: bash (1 panes) "e540"

so when you choose a window from the new choose-window list, you have to
look carefully and choose "the wrong window" or you get the wrong
window! is there a way to fix or workaround this problem?

because this shows 0 on windows other than window 2:
  $ tmux bi w choose-t -wF'#{==:#{window_index},2}'
  (0) - 0: 1
  (1) ├─> 0: 0
  (2) ├─> 1: 0
  (3) ├─> 2: 1
  (4) ├─> 3: 0

thus this eliminates windows other than window 2:
  $ tmux bi w choose-t -wf'#{==:#{window_index},2}'
  (0) - 0: 6 windows (attached)
  (1) └─> 2: ssh* (1 panes) "e540"

so similarly since this shows 0 on the session line and 1 on each window:
  $ tmux bi w choose-t -wF'#{window_format}'
  (0) - 0: 0
  (1) ├─> 0: 1
  (2) ├─> 1: 1
  (3) ├─> 2: 1
  (4) ├─> 3: 1

you'd expect this to eliminate the session line, and restore proper alignment
of the choose-window listing, but strangely it just doesn't:
  $ tmux bi w choose-t -wf'#{window_format}'
  (0) - 0: 4 windows (attached)
  (1) ├─> 0: man- (1 panes) "e540"
  (2) ├─> 1: bash (1 panes) "e540"
  (3) ├─> 2: ssh* (1 panes) "e540"
  (4) ├─> 3: bash (1 panes) "e540"

so a fix or workaround would be greatly appreciated!

Apologies.

flash-kernel --force 5.11.0-1017-raspi results in working video, using
the firmware that came with it.

Using newer firmware does not fix the system.

(Now testing the kernel at https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~juergh/hirsute-

[Bug 1944397] Re: HDMI does not display anything with Impish RPi desktop image

2021-10-05 Thread satmandu
5.11.0-1017-raspi is fine, also using the same latest hexxeh firmware.
(Not using the .dtb files from the hexxeh repo.)

[Bug 1944397] Re: HDMI does not display anything with Impish RPi desktop image

2021-10-05 Thread satmandu
Here is more debug logging from using the latest RPI firmware from
https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commits/master

(Using the 5.13.0-1008.9-raspi kernel, obviously.)

My display is blank, but the system thinks that the display is working,
as I have ffplay playing a video stream upon automatic login and I can
hear the audio.

[Bug 1946005] Re: php8.0: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-10-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yeah, if you could wait until Nov 4th (or 11th) before uploading
openssl3, that'd give me a better shot at getting php transitioned.

FWIW, the issue isn't building php 8.1 itself; generally this will come
into universe automatically via sync from Debian when the archive first
opens. The real issue is that to get it moved into main as the default
php version (and deprecate php 8.0) requires rebuilding the entire PHP
ecosystem successfully on 8.1. The 8.0->8.1 transition is more modest
than 7.4->8.0 was, but even so it might be optimistic that this will be
finished in a week.

An upstream kernel since 4.2.0-22-generic has resolved the issue with this

Thank you.

Yes, only the vendors can fix the firmware, unless you use FLOSS
firmware like coreboot based firmware for example.

Unfortunately, my track record of getting vendors to fix their firmware
is not so good, as you are only one customer using this weird operating
system and not Microsoft Windows. But fingers crossed.

Additionally you might want to point them to the Firmware Test Suite
(FWTS) [1].

Hi Paul.

Okay yes.  I will mark as fixed and open up new for other issues you
clarified as linux.  Thanks for your help.

For the firmware issues should I be reaching out to the vendors?

The original bug seems to be solved now. As there are over ten comments
already, could you mark it as fixed, and create new issues?

[Bug 1521173]

2021-10-05 Thread cspadijer
Are you good with me using kernel: 5.11.0-37-generic  or would you
prefer I use a different kernel?
The X555U is currently running Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon.

FYI:
I tried removing pci=noaer and it does boot now (without your patch).
It has been a while since I tried removing pci=noaer and new kernels get
installed all the time so not sure what kernel first started allowing it
to boot without needing that line.
However, there are still many errors on boot.

[Bug 1946156] [NEW] [snap] Chromium hangs and is unstable in reproducible ways

2021-10-05 Thread Abonnementspaul
Public bug reported:

As described on this issue:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1256489

Briefly, moving around selected text from the browser and opening
comboboxes are very prone to make the browser freeze for a minute or so.

The binaries distributed by Canonical via Snap do not behave as
expected. Google Chrome builds and AppImage Chromium builds do. This
issue did not occur weeks ago.

I believe the issue comes from the build from Canonical. Issue
reproduced with Snap builds from Stable and Beta channels.

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
