[Bug 1953239] [NEW] Files with multiple consecutive spaces cause errors

2021-12-04 Thread Boris Gjenero
Public bug reported:

I was trying to use checkinstall to create a package for projectM music
visualizer which I compiled. I already made a tar.xz and was doing "sudo
checkinstall tar -C / -xJf /d/projectm-linux-x86_64-20211102.tar.xz" and
that was failing with a bunch of errors after "Installation successful":

 Installation successful
==

Copying files to the temporary directory...tar:
./usr/local/share/projectM/presets/presets_eyetune/New Creation Sensation -
AdamFx,Flexi,Amandio c n Martin - Star to Another World ft Hexocollie n Shadow

tar: ./usr/local/share/projectM/presets/presets_mischa_collection/Stahlregen &
AdamFX closer to god through bacon.milk: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

There is a lot more of this. These files indeed do not exist in the
.tar.xz or on disk once it is extracted. I tracked down a bunch of the
files, and all the corresponding files which do exist have two
consecutive spaces in the file name. Apparently checkinstall turns two
consecutive spaces into a single space, and then fails to find the file.

As a simple test, I created a .tar.gz with "/usr/local/Hello World"
(with two spaces between Hello and World) and "/usr/local/Hello World"
(with a single space). Creating a package via "sudo checkinstall tar -C
/ -xzf /d/break_checkinstall_spaces.tar.gz", only the file with a single
space gets included, though I don't see the "Cannot stat: No such file
or directory" error.

Using --fstrans=0 or --fstrans=no doesn't help.

[Bug 95925] Re: debsecan should be either adjusted (for ubuntu) or removed

2021-12-04 Thread Todd Taft
The unofficial database proposed in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debsecan/+bug/95925/comments/12
appears to work. It's at least a major improvement on the current
situation.

I'd suggest that Ubuntu officially adopt the server-side tool and that
appropriate updates are made to the defaults distributed with the
package so that writing manual overrides to SUITE and SOURCE are not
needed in /etc/default/debsecan to get usable results.

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-04 Thread Doug Smythies
When the frequency seems stuck at 800 MHz, then please put a load on a
CPU and look at the pstate request and granted MSR's.

Example, where I force CPU 2:

$ taskset -c 2 yes > /dev/null

and then look at the request and granted pstates:

$ sudo rdmsr --bitfield 15:8 -u -a 0x199
8
8
48
8
30
8
8
8
8
33
8
8

and

$ sudo rdmsr --bitfield 15:8 -u -a 0x198
48
48
48
48
48
48
48
48
48
48
48
48

So, and as expected, I am asking for the highest patete possible for CPU
2 and being given pstate 48 on all CPUs.

In the broken configuration the audio output is initially detected as "internal

[Bug 1953234] Re: Unable to detect cache hierarchy for CPU 0

2021-12-04 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1953234/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

2021-12-04 Thread Ufos92
Reading the debugging instructions:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelHibernate

1. `sudo pm-suspend` works from no-DE tty3 (ctrl+alt+f3).
2. `sudo pm-suspend` from GNOME goes: dark screen, gets me back into GNOME with
all my windows open, but soft-locks the system. Need to ctrl+alt+f3 and `sudo
reboot`.
3. `(sudo) systemctl suspend` from no-DE tty3 doesn't have any effect. Calling
it again tells me a suspend process is in progress...

[Bug 1946794] Re: unity-tweak-tool: GLib-GIO-ERROR

2021-12-04 Thread Brett Bogert
Sebastien,

Got the changes done and tested but could not get the patch header via
quilt to work so we are sans patch header. Clearly the other patch
writers have another way to get a header into the patch so if we can
find out how they are doing it I will be glad to add it and redo the
 debdiff.

Built using pbuilder and debuild. Installed via gdebi. Tested all 3
selections of antialiasing as well as all 4 selections of hinting as
well as other items that I needed to change. Works as intended and I
will attach the debdiff to the bug report.

Let me know what I need to do next.

[Bug 1953235] [NEW] systemctl suspend stopped working: laptop immeadeately wakes up again

2021-12-04 Thread Ufos92
Public bug reported:

I always suspend my laptop using `systemctl suspend`. It worked for a
year as expected until today.

Buggy Behavior: after `systemctl suspend` the seemingly usual suspend
happens, however the laptop wakes up immediately. Things get more weird
from here, as I need to input my password twice to get back into GNOME.

Troubleshooting I did:
1. apt update && apt dist-upgrade
2. Disabled nvidia-suspend.service, nvidia-persistenced.service,
nvidia-resume.service
3. Booted with an earlier kernel version where it used to work: `5.11.0-40`,
`5.11.0-38`
3. Detached all devices, and the power cable
4. Rebooted into a separate user that has no tweaks, gnome-extensions etc
5. The issue persists -- I attached relevant parts of `journalctl`: from the
time when I used `systemctl suspend` till a minute or so after I logged back
into GNOME.

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-04 Thread Doug Smythies
Try changing to the powersave governor. If something else set another
pstate request and the intel_pstate driver doesn't know about it, then
with the performance governor it might never send a new pstate request.

All of this is very similar to a few months ago, on askubuntu and the path of
investigation is the same.
References:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1360985/all-cpus-stuck-at-800mhz-ubuntu-20-04-3

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1379048/intel-pstate-driver-not-being-loaded-when-added-to-grub-file

To check all operating parameters I do not mean to use cpufreq-info. I
mean do:

grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/*

and

grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/*

For posting herein, and as a long as you have checked that the repeated
information is the same, the second one can be shortened to (choose
whatever CPU you want):

grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/*

[Bug 1919026] Re: cinnamon-settings-users: User dialog holds if user creates a user that already exists

2021-12-04 Thread Joshua Peisach
Hello, I've been busy with school and life - Cinnamon 5.2 is currently
WIP in Debian experimental

This shouldn't slow anything down significantly. The only slowing that
could happen is processing and checking the issue on info change.

I can agree that this may not be as important but it shouldn't cause any
error. I tested the patch a lot before I finished submitting it to LM
and I think it will be fine for Ubuntu.

[Bug 1935849] Re: [SRU] Reenabling toolbar in two-pane view causes the toolbar on each pane to think its two separate nemo main toolbars

2021-12-04 Thread Joshua Peisach
So the patch works in Focal - same process except there is no button
cobbling at the top. But what does the autopkgtest regression mean now
that it is gone? It seems to not have caused an issue-this shouldn't
have caused any in the first place. Now all the autopkgtests has passed.
Now what?

[Bug 1953234] [NEW] Unable to detect cache hierarchy for CPU 0

The system-

Ubuntu 20.04 Server with Xfce - Updated

Raspberry Pi OS is having the same issue - for reference:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/Raspberry-Pi-OS-64bit/issues/195

This may be related to missing cache directory in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0

I'm requesting assistance to have the cache be detected.

Please let me know what additional info to provide (or if this request

[Bug 1953231] [NEW] Samba vfs_full_audit not working as it should

2021-12-04 Thread maravento
Public bug reported:

SO: Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS x64
Samba: Version 4.13.14-Ubuntu
BUG: Duplicate IP

Conf:

full_audit:success = mkdirat read pread write pwrite renameat unlinkat
full_audit:failure = none
full_audit:facility = LOCAL7
full_audit:priority = notice

According to the doc:

%I the IP address of the client machine.
%m the NetBIOS name of the client machine (very useful).
%S the name of the current service, if any

so why show duplicate IP?

out:

PS: what is the equivalent of "rmdir" in the new version (not in the official

[Bug 1945221] Re: CPU frequency stuck at minimum value..again Ubuntu 20.04.3

2021-12-04 Thread Doug Smythies
If the intel_pstate scaling driver is "active" then "powersave" is the
default governor. If the driver "passive" or the is the acpi-cpufreq
driver during boot, then the default governor will be "ondemand". Note
that "active-powersave" is crudely the equivalent of "passive-ondemand".
You can eliminate these default settings by stopping and disabling the
"ondemand" service. Without the service, the governor will be as defined
by the kernel configuration file or the grub command line. Recently,
Ubuntu has changed to "schedutil" as the default in the kernel
configuration.

$ grep CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT /boot/config-5.11.0-40-generic
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_PERFORMANCE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_POWERSAVE is not set
# CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_USERSPACE is not set
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_DEFAULT_GOV_SCHEDUTIL=y

For these "few minutes" you mention, please run a load, for example "$
yes > /dev/null", while at the same time running the following turbostat
command in another terminal:

sudo turbostat --Summary --quiet --show
Busy%,Bzy_MHz,IRQ,PkgWatt,PkgTmp,RAMWatt,GFXWatt,CorWatt --interval 10

And check all operating parameters after the slow down looking for any limiting
change.
Post the turbostat output here.

[Bug 1953229] [NEW] Issues with installer and default config and permissions

2021-12-04 Thread pqwoerituytrueiwoq
Public bug reported:

The only config the end user should need to mess with is the
audio_output section, this process is enough of a PITA without the
frustration of dealing with parts that should just work

There are 2 issues:

1. When mpd is installed it is configured to use /var/lib/mpd/tag_cache
however this file is not created by the installer. the installer should
have done this

touch /var/lib/mpd/tag_cache
chown mpd:audio /var/lib/mpd/tag_cache

2. The default config file is set to use /run/mpd/pid to store the
running instance's id, however mpd lacks permission necessary to create
the /run/mpd directory

Even if the user runs sudo mkdir /run/mpd && chown mpd:audio /run/mpd as
soon as the mpd service is closed this directory is deleted

[Bug 1953228] [NEW] hp-check looking for hpaio file which has been renamed?

2021-12-04 Thread Batwam
Public bug reported:

when running hp-check, I get the following error:
'/etc/sane.d/dll.d/hpaio' not found.

when looking into this folder, I have a file but it is names hplip. Looking at
the content of the libsane-hpaio, this is where the hplip file comes from and
there is no hpaio files created. I have done a symlink (ln -s hplip hpaio) and
it seems to be happy now:
 hpaioHPLIP-SANE-Backend
REQUIRED- 3.20.3 OK 'hpaio found in
/etc/sane.d/dll.conf'

suggest to update the hp-check routine so that hp-check should look for a file
called hplip rather than hpaio

[Bug 1952158] Re: squid does not accept WCCP of Cisco router since 3.5.27-1ubuntu1.12

2021-12-04 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Hi,

The patch was backported from Squid 4 as no patch for Squid 3 was
available. The code in wccp2.cpp is almost identical. The resulting code
in wccp2.cpp is almost identical to the code in 4.13 in impish, so I
suspect you'll hit the same regression with current versions of Squid.

The only two commits that are different are the two following commits,
which I don't believe could be causing the regression you are seeing:

https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/commit/7f7b4fd3f9af404d5bc528f7a73320f3ed1cc7d4
https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/commit/43b6575c9823248357a1eca8a55db76fd6c848ca

It would help to be able to test your environment with current versions
of Squid to determine if this is caused by the upstream fix or not.
Thanks!

[Bug 1898383] Re: tcsh filename pattern matching fails

2021-12-04 Thread Alain
Pattern matching is broken in numerous ways in this version.
For example:
echo .[a-z]
will match .. in a directory, which it should definitely not!
Any other shell available does this properly.

[Bug 1950666] Re: system crash when removing ipmi_msghandler module

2021-12-04 Thread Ioanna Alifieraki
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]

Commit 3b9a907223d7 (ipmi: fix sleep-in-atomic in free_user at cleanup SRCU
user->release_barrier)
pushes the removal of an ipmi_user into the system's workqueue.

Whenever an ipmi_user struct is about to be removed it is scheduled as a
work on the system's workqueue to guarantee the free operation won't be
executed in atomic context. When the work is executed the
free_user_work() function is invoked which frees the ipmi_user.

When ipmi_msghandler module is removed in cleanup_ipmi() function, there is
no check if there are any pending works to be executed.
Therefore, there is a potential race condition :
An ipmi_user is scheduled for removal and shortly after to remove the
ipmi_msghandler module.
If the scheduled work delays execution for any reason and the module is
removed first, then when the work is executed the pages of free_user_work() are
gone and the system crashes with the following :

BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: c05c3450

  CR2: c05c3450

  [TEST CASE]

The user who reported the issue can reproduce reliably by stopping the ipmi
related services and then removing the ipmi modules.
I could reproduce the issue only when turning the normal 'work' to delayed
work.

  [WHERE PROBLEMS COULD OCCUR]

- TBD
+ The fixing patch creates a dedicated workqueue for the remove_work
+ struct of ipmi_user when loading the ipmi_msghandler modules and
+ destroys the workqueue when removing the module. Therefore any potential
+ problems would occur during these two operations or when scheduling
+ works on the dedicated workqueue.

  [OTHER]

- Upstream is affected too, working on a patch to address this.
+ Upstream patches :
+ 1d49eb91e86e (ipmi: Move remove_work to dedicated workqueue)
+ 5a3ba99b62d8 (ipmi: msghandler: Make symbol 'remove_work_wq' static)

[Bug 1953222] Re: apache2 won't start

2021-12-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

(this bug report can be converted into a question)

In order to process this bug report, we need more details.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1953222

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1953225] [NEW] Mnemonics appearing on startup

2021-12-04 Thread Akbarkhon Variskhanov
Public bug reported:

1) Xubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
2) xfce4-appmenu-plugin (0.7.3+dfsg1-2ubuntu0.1)
3) Mnemonics should only appear on hover or menu activation
4) Mnemonics appear on initial launch

Whenever xfce4-panel starts, xfce4-appmenu-plugin has all of the
mnemonics automatically enabled, even on inactive state. To make them
disappear, user has to click on any menu item, which is annoying.
Another option is to add `gtk-enable-mnemonics = 0` to
$HOME/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, which also disables all mnemonics
altogether, and that's objectively worse.

Mnemonics should not be autoshown on initial panel launch. Only on
consequent hover or activation.

Screenshot included.

[Bug 1941752]

2021-12-04 Thread Richard Johnson
Created attachment 144195
New crash information added by DrKonqi

gwenview (21.08.1) using Qt 5.15.2

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
1. used darktable to create a jpg from nef
2. opened jpg with showfoto (success, including metadata)
3. attempted to open jpg with gwenview, immediate app abort

- Unusual behavior I noticed:
* all tools are in default configuration
* Gwenview frame started to open but then aborted.

This machine is now kubuntu 21.10, and both qwenview and darktable have
been updated since the original bug report.

This issue is solved now. I don't know if the Ubuntu packers fixed it or if it
was me.
In case it is the latter, I added the "proposed" repository and manually went
through all nvidia files in aptitude and then was able to update.
It installed a 650 and a 655 version of one of the files and that solved the
dependency issue. Those files can be removed after the upgrade.
It did skip a Kernel version though, so from 21 to 23.

[Bug 1953223] [NEW] USB device is not detected during boot, again

2021-12-04 Thread Jarkko Toivonen
Public bug reported:

I have an ethernet adapter (ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit
Ethernet) attached to a USB-C port of my laptop. After update to kernel
5.4.0-90-generic it stopped working again. Same problem with
5.4.0-91-generic. Detaching and reattaching the adapter doesn't help,
but after suspend and resume it starts working again, until the next
boot. I had the same problem earlier and it was fixed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1939638 , but the
bug got reintroduced in kernel 5.4.0-90-generic most likely due to this
patch:

* Fix cold plugged USB device on certain PCIe USB cards (LP: #1945211)
 - Revert "UBUNTU: SAUCE: Revert "usb: core: reduce power-on-good delay time of
  root hub""

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04. USB2 ports work without problems.

[Bug 1953224] [NEW] Ubuntu patch can be dropped

2021-12-04 Thread Alexis Bienvenüe
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainers,

This is not really a bug but a simplification suggestion.

As far as I understand the Ubuntu patch for auto-multiple-choice in
auto-multiple-choice 1.5.1-2ubuntu1, it can be dropped since debian version
1.5.1-2.
Indeed, the dependency to gnome-icon-theme-symbolic has been added, that is
provided by adwaita-icon-theme-full in Ubuntu.
See
https://salsa.debian.org/georgesk/auto-multiple-choice/-/commit/6dc909f87e55449e

Regards,
Alexis Bienvenüe.

[Bug 1953222] Re: apache2 won't start

2021-12-04 Thread apsaras
The apache2 error log did not have more information:

/etc# ls -l /var/log/apache2/
total 0
-rw-r- 1 root adm 0 Dec 4 10:48 access.log
-rw-r- 1 root adm 0 Dec 4 10:48 error.log
-rw-r- 1 root adm 0 Dec 4 10:48 other_vhosts_access.log

The config file that is tripping it up is /etc/apache2/mods-
enabled/alias.conf, which apart from empty lines and comment lines
contains

Alias /icons/ "/usr/share/apache2/icons/"

Options FollowSymlinks
AllowOverride None
Require all granted

I don't know why this would be a problem.
