[Bug 1745799] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() from AbortServer() from FatalError() from xwl_log_handler() from wl_log() ["wl_registry@2: error 0: invalid global wl_output (20)\n"]

2022-02-11 Thread Aurimas Fišeras
I can reproduce the crash on 3 different notebooks:
 1. Lenovo ThinkPad P14s with AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U with Radeon Graphics
 2. Lenovo ThinkPad T480 with Intel i7-8550U with integrated Graphics
 3. Lenovo ThinkPad x220 with Intel i3-2310M with integrated Graphics

It doesn't matter, if external monitor (or two) is connected, or not, if
scaling is enabled (125% or 200%), or not - crash is reproducible every
time.

[Bug 1956461] Re: Creative HD720p webcam doesn't work

2022-02-11 Thread Doug Brown
I believe this bug was caused by this commit in the kernel:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/sound/usb/quirks-
table.h?id=48827e1d6af58f219e89c7ec08dccbca28c7694e

A patch to fix the issue was committed to the kernel 11 days ago:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/sound/usb/quirks-
table.h?id=4ee02e20893d2f9e951c7888f2284fa608ddaa35

It appears that the problem is that after the buggy original patch, the
snd-usb-audio module takes over the entire webcam and prevents the
uvcvideo driver from accessing it. No idea how long it will take Ubuntu
to bring this patch into their kernels. In the meantime, I'm assuming
you could work around it by doing something like this (with the webcam
plugged in) to force the uvcvideo driver to load first:

sudo modprobe -r snd-usb-audio
sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo
sudo modprobe uvcvideo
sudo modprobe snd-usb-audio

[Bug 1960582] Re: [critical] dpkg error while processing - can't install nor upgrade

2022-02-11 Thread Duong Phan
To clarify this : i didn't make any change to the system.
I just upgraded from ubuntu 20.0.1 and get that error.
Step to reproduce :
-in Ubuntu version 20.0.1
 $ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade -> (no error)
 $ sudo apt dist-upgrade
 sudo apt autoremove
 sudo apt install update-manager-core
 sudo do-release-upgrade -d
 after upgrade
-in Ubuntu version 22.04
 sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade -> show above error
so please verify that it's not a bug from upgrade older version to jammy
thank you,

[Bug 1958242] Re: mesa update freeze/crash screen before login

2022-02-11 Thread rcornet
I was reticent to install some random ppa. But since compiling it myself
would be some adventure. I removed my personal stuff and other data,
changed passwords and then installed the kisak ppa.

And it seems to work without issue. Just as well as in 20.04.5.
The current version in the ppa is 21.3.6.
I have no idea what was broken in 21.2.6.
Was there really a need for messing with r300 drivers?

dmesg shows neither errors or weird warnings about mesa.

Everything seems ok.
Only thing I don't know what else might have been installed from that ppa.
Yes I'm a little paranoid.

[Bug 1959970] Re: Microphone-mute LED regression with 5.13.0-28 kernel update

2022-02-11 Thread jeremyszu
Hi Max,

Understood.
For bug1955691, it mentions "HP" and "mic-mute" only without product name that
is because the product is pre-market when preparing the patch. We should not
announce the support earlier than HP.

This issue seems to me is not a regression.

This function could be separated to few parts:
1. hotkey
2. mute/unmute
3. LED

Could you please confirm below in both -27 and -28 kernel?
1. sudo evtest # when pressing mic mute key
2. when press hotkey the OSD should pop-up.
3. >After logging in to GNOME, opening the Sound settings and toggling the
microphone mute state does cause the LED to follow future changes.
Try to mute/unmute mic in gnome sound settings to see whether LED toggled as
expected.

2022-02-11 Thread d
Reproduced on latest centos kernel 3.10.0-1160.53

It's so strange that this keeps on happening I tried disabling swap and

[Bug 1958502] Re: Please merge newt 0.52.21-5 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2022-02-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package newt - 0.52.21-5ubuntu1

---
newt (0.52.21-5ubuntu1) jammy; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #1958502). Remaining changes:
- Install/remove alternatives for the ubuntu palette.
- Don't install python-newt example files.
- Add correct build-dependencies on python3-all-dbg and
  libpython3-all-dbg, needed due to debian/patches/snack.patch.
- Revert Debian's dropping of /etc/newt/palette.original, used as an
  alternative in Ubuntu.
- Remove libnewt0.52.preinst altogether, which contains destructive
operations with none of the appropriate version guards.
- Drop call to update-alternatives --auto in our postinst, which would
  clobber the user's settings.

[Bug 1845214] Re: Keyboard NumLock indicator turns off on connecting another keyboard

2022-02-11 Thread Stuart Longland
I've noticed the same thing… both on Ubuntu, and lately on Gentoo as
well, so I'm thinking maybe something in udev / kernel has changed?

I use FVWM2 as my desktop on both OSes. My desktop runs Ubuntu 20.04
(AMD64).

On my laptop (Panasonic CF-53, which runs Gentoo) it's particularly
insidious, plugging in the YubiKey (mine's a 5C which I use with a USB-
A-C adaptor) causes NumLock to be turned on, and if your PIN code uses
letters over the right-side of the keyboard, guess what? You're
unwittingly typing numbers now! Cue confusion when the YubiKey rejects
the PIN you just entered.

I've locked myself out of the YubiKey once because of that -- had to go
in with the PUK and unlock it.

My desktop doesn't seem to secretly turn NumLock on; the state is
retained, just the LED turns off.

If we can figure out what mechanism is doing it in Ubuntu, I'll chase up
what's doing it Gentoo-side.

A user that tries to install vanilla-gnome-default-settings (or its reverse

[Bug 1960403] Re: Kubuntu constantly freezing on ThinkPad T510

2022-02-11 Thread Jonas Gamao
the following packages were updated that fixed the issue: libegl-mesa0
libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0 libxatracker2 mesa-
va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers xserver-xorg-video-
amdgpu libllvm13

I'll try to run apport-collect some other time, but right now, it's
officially stuck.

$ journalctl -r --grep apport

[Bug 1960608] Re: python-pip >= 21.3.1+dfsg-3 fails pip3-root.sh autopkgtest with python3.10

2022-02-11 Thread Stefano Rivera
As I understand it, this is because pip expects the installation layouts
in sysconfig to be correct since Python 3.10. Previously it used the
layouts in distutils.sysconfig.

See:
* LP: #1940705
* LP: #1408092
* https://github.com/pypa/pip/pull/10358

The correct resolution here is to enable sysconfig-debian-schemes.diff
in Python 3.10. I'm not sure why this hasn't been enabled, yet.

[Bug 1960683] [NEW] Garbled/overlapping text in Systemsettings -> Users

2022-02-11 Thread Jan Rathmann
Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:

1. Boot Kubuntu Jammy daily-live image (VirtualBox is sufficient)
2. Start Systemsettings
3. Click on "Users"

The headline text looks "garbled", more than one copies of the same text
are overlapping each other (see screenshot).

This happens both on Jammy and Impish with Backports-PPA. It seems to be
independent of using X11 or Wayland.

I could _not_ reproduce this with Neon stable or unstable live image, so
it's possible that this is a specific problem of Kubuntu.

Kind regards, Jan

[Bug 1960679] Re: Dekstop icon extension can't handle moving icons to a to-be-empty spot

2022-02-11 Thread Omar Abdul'Azeez
After further investigation... it doesn't seem to be exactly what i
thought it was. It seems to be that when dragging around the lowest icon
in the selection everything else keeps getting a bigger gap between the
dragged icon and itself and that's why I thought the top icon remained
in place when dragging the bottom icon to a lower position... it just
happened to gain a gap that put it in it's previous position

passing the build tests in my 'junk drawer' PPA which is used for build
tests on all archs with proposed enabled
(https://launchpad.net/~teward/+archive/ubuntu/junk-drawer/+packages).

There was no FTBFS and I have committed a patch containing the upstream
branch changes to the Debian Salsa, and will be uploading that to
Mentors shortly for them to include there in Unstable (it's seemingly
reverse-compatible with teh older OpenSSL as well in unstable); once
this is there I'll sync it down to Ubuntu and we'll see if it succeeds
in Jammy like it does in the PPA.

[Bug 1958502] Re: Please merge newt 0.52.21-5 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2022-02-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks, the merge seems correct and I've uploaded now. I wonder if some
of the delta could be removed or sent back to Debian though. Also the
example being removed was documented in the changelog but not done it
seems and the history of the package doesn't make clear why it was done
in the first place, maybe a futur delta simplication to be done there?

[Bug 1960679] [NEW] Dekstop icon extension can't handle moving icons to a to-be-empty spot

2022-02-11 Thread Omar Abdul'Azeez
Public bug reported:

You can easily test this by setting up 2 or more icons on the desktop in
any way then moving them in such a way that one of the icons will be
moved to the spot where another icon currently is, but that other icon
is also being moved by the same action to another empty spot.

Behaviour: icons that are moved to the spot described above will stay in
place

Note: it has to do with the order the icons are moved so if you try
moving icon 1 where icon 2 currently is and they are both moved
correctly, try to move them so that icon 2 is moved where icon 1 is and
it will have issues

[Bug 1958592] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in mieqEnqueue() from queueEventList() from QueueKeyboardEvents() from xf86PostKeyEventM() from xf86PostKeyboardEvent()

2022-02-11 Thread Lars Rune Præstmark
It happened again, this time on the Lubuntu desktop, and this time I'm
pretty sure there was a crash file with "xorg" in the name, but running
ubuntu-bug might just have renamed it without sending anything...
Anyway, it seems it wasn't the only thing that crashed, so might as well
give you the link to the error report that does appear to have got sent:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/2138bbc8-8b76-11ec-87d9-fa163e6cac46

That probably doesn't help a lot. But yeah, mentioning that something
else seems to have crashed at the same time seems like the type of thing
that probably doesn't matter but maybe it does. I've also heard from
another person who got the crash today, not sure if that was on Ubuntu
or something else (I do hope distributions have some coordination rather
than fixing the bugs independently of each other, but I've started to
wonder if they do).

If it is getting annoying that I tell you every time I notice anything
new, it's okay to tell me to stop.

[Bug 1960669] Re: the display doesn't appear after suspend, i915

2022-02-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1960669/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1957001] Re: [RM] python-sqlsoup

2022-02-11 Thread Corey Bryant
Some notes from vorlon on this:
vorlon> Steve Langasek coreycb: so, python-sqlsoup would have already been
removed except that the epigrass that drops the dependency is still in
-proposed and hasn't migrated
12:23 PM coreycb: and that's because the new epigrass requires python3-numba,
which was removed because it wasn't ready for python3.10...
12:24 PM coreycb: I could remove epigrass from the release pocket and then the
rest would sort itself out, but I don't really want to do that until I see some
evidence of numba being fixed, given that this was supposed to be a "temporary"
removal

Upstream numba now supports python 3.10.

I heard from ginggs (Graham Inggs) the new numba needs
https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/onetbb uploaded to unstable first. The Debian
maintainer (Diane) mentioned the same and there have been problems getting
onetbb built:

[Bug 1952222] Re: io_uring regression - lost write request

2022-02-11 Thread Stefan Metzmacher
5.14.0-1023.25 seems to work fine.

I used the steps similar to
https://lore.kernel.org/io-uring/CABVffEM79CZ+4SW0+yP0+NioMX=shhoobcefbhqs6g6hex2...@mail.gmail.com/

cmake -DPLUGIN_{MROONGA,ROCKSDB,CONNECT,SPIDER,SPHINX,S3,COLUMNSTORE}=NO
-DWITH_URING=ON ../mariadb-server
make -j8
mysql-test/mtr --mysqld=--innodb_use_native_aio=1 --nowarnings --parallel=4
--force encryption.innochecksum{,} --mysqld=--innodb_io_capacity=5
--mysqld=--innodb_io_capacity_max=9

And it failed twice with 5.14.0-1022.24, while it finished twice on
5.14.0-1023.25

[Bug 1960464] Re: mysql breaks apt, system, can't even be uninstalled

2022-02-11 Thread Lena Voytek
Hello,

I am unable to reproduce this error but may be able to with some
additional information.

Do you know when mysql was auto-installed on your system?

Were you trying to install any packages before the reboot with apt-get
install or were you just running apt-get upgrade before it stalled?

Does the file /var/log/mysql/error.log still exist on your system and if
so would you be able to provide its contents?

Thanks

[Bug 1959971] Re: increase /boot partition size

2022-02-11 Thread Brian Murray
I tested an installation of the daily image of Ubuntu 20.04 from
2022-02-11 (using lvm and encryption) and my boot partition has a size
of 1.44G. This falls within the range we expected so I'm setting this to
verification-done.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  All new installs of 20.04.

  [Test case]
- 1) Install Ubuntu 20.04 on a system
+ 1) Install Ubuntu 20.04 with encryption (this'll create a separate /boot
partition) on a system
  2) Validate that the size of the /boot partition is greater than or equal to
768MB; should be somewhere between 768MB and 1536GB.

- [Regression potential]
- This may adversely affect installs on tiny disks, by taking up more space for
the /boot partition than was previously taken, at the cost of / or /home. As
such, failures to install due to insufficient space on a partition, or failure
to partition a disk that was previously working should be investigated as
possible regressions.
+ [Regression potential]This may adversely affect installs on tiny disks, by
taking up more space for the /boot partition than was previously taken, at the
cost of / or /home. As such, failures to install due to insufficient space on a
partition, or failure to partition a disk that was previously working should be
investigated as possible regressions.
This is a corner case in general since there is no requirement to allocate a
separate partition for /boot in the default configuration, and if you are using
a non-default configuration where /boot must be a separate partition, you
probably also don't have a disk so small that an additional 256MB of disk usage
is a problem.

  ---
The kernel in Jammy is a bit larger than the one in Focal and our previous
/boot partition size calculation (LP: #1716999) likely didn't take into account
adding modules like nvidia to the initramfs. Subsequently, we need to revisit
the size calculations for Focal.

I'm utilizing cryptsetup and nvidia modules and have a 164M initrd when
using lz4 (the default in Focal) compression. Using the same formula we
previously did we end up with this:

  2* (3*11 + 4*164 + 11) = 1400

So modifying the maximum size to 1536 seems reasonable, the current
minimum is 512 which is actually a bit too small for an initrd with less
  modules e.g.:

  2* (3*11 + 4*62 + 11) = 584

So the minimum should also be increased to 768.

The default compression level for Jammy is currently being discussed and
until that is decided we shouldn't make changes to partman-auto for
  Jammy.

[Bug 1948008] Re: Copying and pasting files between desktop and Nautilus does not work

2022-02-11 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I just mechanically applied the MR which Daniel pointed at. Let's see if
Daniel or Dariusz is able to say more.

Please note that the desktop icons package used in 20.04 is not the same
as in 22.04. 22.04 uses a fork, and the projects have diverged quite a
bit by now.
