[Bug 1962346] Re: Ubuntu reboots instead of powering off if a software updates exists

2022-03-03 Thread Ben Aceler
I can say, that I have this dialog only if I have a flatpak updates, not
apt updates.

As far as I can say, the dialog itself works as intended. The bug is,
that the Ubuntu box is rebooting instead of turninging off.

[Bug 1962346] [NEW] Ubuntu reboots instead of powering off if a software updates exists

2022-02-25 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

When I want to turn off a computer, I got a checkbox "Install deferred
updates" (see screenshot, I'm not sure if my back-translation is
correct).

If the checkbox is checked, Ubuntu box reboots instead of powering off.
It is not "rebopot to install updates". It just reboots to desktop
again. If I uncheck the box, it powers off normally.

[Bug 1958975] [NEW] linux-image-5.13.0-28-generic hangs randomly

2022-01-25 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Kernel image 5.13.0-28 hangs with "BUG: Bad page state in process
". Using previous build (5.13.0-25) solves the problem.

The symptoms are that the system just hangs up. Only hardreset works.

I started ubuntu-bug with 5.13.0-25 kernel, because the system is stable
with this kernel, but I also add a journalctl output with -28 kernel to
indicate the problem.

[Bug 1943586] [NEW] Gthumb crashes when trying to open files exported by Darktable

2021-09-14 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce: export a file from darktable (I attached one). Open
it.

$ gthumb 0002.jpg
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
  what():  basic_string::at: __n (which is 19) >= this->size() (which is 19)
Аварийный останов (стек памяти сброшен на диск)

As far as I can say from "basic_string" thing, EXIF or XMP tags are broken.
Maybe it's a bug of Darktable, but gthumb shoudn't crash anyways.

[Bug 1928344] [NEW] Video recording lasts only 30 seconds

2021-05-13 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Gnome3 have an ability to record a screencast using alt+shift+ctrl+R
hotkey combo.

After pressing this combination, a red dot appears in the top panel, and
a screencast starts. But it lasts only 30 seconds and stop recording
after that.

[Bug 1909037] [NEW] Weird sorting occurs on numbers sequence filenames

2020-12-22 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

I have a lot of files from the camera, named ACE_0001.nef, ACE_0002.nef
and so on. I imported these files into darktable. Darktable places a
corresponding xmp file near every nef file, resulting in
ACE_0001.nef.xmp, ACE_0002.nef.xmp and so on.

The problem is, for files less then 100 in numbers, xmp files are sorted
before nef files, but starting ACE_0100.nef* xmp files are sorted after
nef.

See attached screenshot.

[Bug 1903383] Re: XWayland applications respect scale only if a scaled output is primary on a mixed-scale setup

2020-11-07 Thread Ben Aceler
** Description changed:

The bug occurs with any XWayland application. I tried VSCode, Chrome,
  Audacity, Darktable...

I have two monitors with a different DPI. One is 4K HiDPI monitor and
the second in LowDPI 2K monitor. I can setup 200% scale for a HiDPI
monitor and 100% scale for a LowDPI. All native gnome applications are
  fine.

The bug: when I select LowDPI monitor as a primary, XWayland
applications stop scaling on a HiDPI monitor. They run 100% scale on
both monitors. If I select HiDPI monitor as the primary, XWayland
- applications scales fine — 200% on the primary monitor and 100% on the
- secondary.
+ applications scales 200% on both monitors.

[Bug 1903383] [NEW] XWayland applications respect scale only if a scaled output is primary on a mixed-scale setup

2020-11-07 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

The bug occurs with any XWayland application. I tried VSCode, Chrome,
Audacity, Darktable...

I have two monitors with a different DPI. One is 4K HiDPI monitor and
the second in LowDPI 2K monitor. I can setup 200% scale for a HiDPI
monitor and 100% scale for a LowDPI. All native gnome applications are
fine.

The bug: when I select LowDPI monitor as a primary, XWayland
applications stop scaling on a HiDPI monitor. They run 100% scale on
both monitors. If I select HiDPI monitor as the primary, XWayland
applications scales fine — 200% on the primary monitor and 100% on the
secondary.

[Bug 1877589] [NEW] Wayland windows does not redraw itself

2020-05-08 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure, if it is not a bug of certain Wayland applications.

Under Ubuntu 20.04, Gnome 3.36, some Wayland-native applications, namely
Audacity(2.3.3) and Firefox (76.0), does not redraw themselves unless I
change their size, or switch to another window or overview. For example,
audacity does not redraw current position marker, and I need to click
with a mouse, or resize the window to see it. Firefox sometimes just
freeze, until I click or until I resize its window, or I switch to
overview.

What kind of trace shoud I perform to obtain more information?

[Bug 1811570] [NEW] Ubiquity format partition on filesystem change even "format" is not set. Potential data loss.

2019-01-13 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

For some reason, Ubiquity recognized my ext4 partition as ext2. So I set
up the proper filesystem type - ext4, proper mount point, and didn't
(checked it twice) set a checkbox "format partition".

After installation the partition was formatted.

Steps to reproduce:

0. Set up a virtual machine, to avoid actual data loss.
1. Create a test partition with an ext2 filesystem.
2. Store some test data on it.
3. Run Ubiquity installer and create some other partitions needed to install
Ubuntu.
4. Set a mountpoint for the test partition, change a filesystem type, do not
set "format partition" checkbox.
5. Install Ubuntu.

Expected result:
Test data will be stored on a test partittion, Ubuntu will fail to boot due to
filesystem mismatch.

Actual result:
Test partititon will be empty.

This issue can be resolved in two ways:
1. If formatting partition should be be mandatory, the checkbox "format
partition" must be set up and disabled, so the user will know, that the
partition will be formatted.
2. If formatting partition is not mandatory, then Ubiquity shouldn't format the
partition.

2018-12-25 Thread Ben Aceler
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic ubuntu wayland-session

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 18.04 Pop!_OS flavour, AMD RX 560, AMD Ryzen 5 2400G (video
disabled), proprietary AMD drivers 18.40, Gnome Wayland session, 4k
  monitor.

I tried to use ubuntu-bug, but it says, that xwayland is not officially
supported package and quit. Feel free to ask any logs or command output.

The problem is, that the output is corrupted in a small windows, like
popup menus that contains less than 4 lines, or certain applications
that can make a window size small — like glxgears. This happens only for
xwayland clients, native wayland apps are OK.

  See screenshot attached.

[Bug 1809656] [NEW] Small windows output corrupted in XWayland clients

2018-12-24 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

[Bug 1734745] [NEW] NM assumes avahi ip addres and default gw for disconnected device

2017-11-27 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

I have an Ubuntu 17.10 box with WiFi and Ethernet devices. The ethernet
device is not connected at all. The WiFi is connected to WiFi network.

The problem is, the connection drops itself after a while. I did some
research and find out, the NM creates a new connection for the ethernet
device, assuming Avahi IP for that connection, actually making this
device a default route in a routing table. Thus, all outgoing packets
are going through a non-connected ethernet device instead of gateway in
WiFi network.

See commands output for details.

If I delete that default route manually, re-run dhclient to get a new
route or disconnect enp9s0 using NM, the internet start working again.

[Bug 1440884] Re: ktorrent shows the icon only when downloading

2015-04-23 Thread Ben Aceler
OK, this is not a tkorrent bug. Ktorrent sets icon as actvie while
download and as passive otherwise:

ktorrent/trayicon.cpp:152

status_notifier_item-setStatus(core-getQueueManager()-getNumRunning(QueueManager::DOWNLOADS)
  0 ?
KStatusNotifierItem::Active :
KStatusNotifierItem::Passive);

So, the issue is, how Unity handle passive icons. It just doesn't show
them.

[Bug 1445514] [NEW] Can't install fglrx with the new quantal Xorg stack in Trusty

2015-04-17 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

With the new 14.04.2 update, Xorg stack is now from Utopic, so the
packages named as xserver-xorg-core-lts-utopic, xserver-xorg-input-all-
lts-utopic and so on.

But fglrx (and fglrx-update) drivers from the repository depends on
xorg-video-abi-11 (or xorg-video-abi-12 and so on) which is somehow does
not provided by xserver-xorg-core-lts-utopic, and provided only by
xserver-xorg-core.

So, the user can't install fglrx driver anymore.

Looks like a crash, doesn't it? Guest OS didn't start at all.

I can't say exactly about update or upgrade, because I never tried to
start to VMs simultaneously before. Two or more KVM boxes or several VB
boxes works fine.

select activate or equivalent. Release the left mouse button.

Actual result: the application will start or show itself up, but will

[Bug 1157433] Re: checkbox ask for user password even after closing if not provided

2013-03-22 Thread Ben Aceler
OK, but I closed the checkbox's windows. I expect, that this also close
all backends and subprocesses. Of course, it's not a major bug, but
still, if I close the window, I expect the application to shut down.

[Bug 1157276] [NEW] Fullscreen windows are not fully fullscreen

2013-03-19 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Fullscreen windows are not really a fullscreen — there is a 1px lag
between the window and the border of the screen. And if there is another
window under current — I can click on it, it will raise. If not, I can
click on the desktop.

Restore window and make it fullscreen again fixes the issue, but next
time I start an application, the problem appears again.

Provided screenshot for firefox above clementine — you can see elements
of clementine right to firefox's scrolling bar.

[Bug 1032193] [NEW] usb 3.0 module get lost from initrd every upgrade (packaging problem)

2012-08-02 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

I have an external USB3.0 HDD. It is connected all the time, and so I
put it in /etc/fstab under /mnt/disk.

The problem is — every time I get linux kernel upgraded, I lost my disk
with error message /mnt/disk cannot be mounted. Continue to wait, or
Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery. After pressing M I
realize, that there is no xhci module and there is no /dev/sdb also.
Skipping mounting let me boot the rest of the system, without external
disk.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-3.2.0-XX-generic temporary solves the
problem.

[Bug 392382] Re: Blink tray icon setting doesn't work in Ubuntu Linux

2011-05-29 Thread Ben Aceler
I can confirm the bug on Natty. The bug itself depends on an icon theme
— for example, it works with Faenza and Gnome-colors.

As a workaround, I deleted pidgin icons from these themes — this cause
pidgin to use the default icon, which is working fine.

Please reopen.

[Bug 708766] [NEW] Extra question for mark folder as read action (usability bug)

2011-01-27 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I mark folder as read using a drop-down menu on a folder, Evolution
gives me a choice to mark all messages in the current folder, or in the
current folder and all subfolders. Any time I want to do so, I get a

To avoid such extra question, I suggest to create to different menu

confirmation on it.

Oh, I see. Yes, I use thuinderbird 3.0.4 from repository and lightning

I installed lightning 1.0b from contribs from mozilla's ftp site:
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/1.0b1rc1/contrib/linux-x86_64/

It works. So, I think, lightning-extension package in Lucid's repoditory
have to be updated, otherwise it's useless.

[Bug 398387] [NEW] firefox does not follow mouse cursor settings with KDE

2009-07-12 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

The default cursor theme for KDE is oxygen, but firefox change the
cursor shape to DMZ. Such behavior is only for Forefox, other GTK apps
doesn't have such issue. If you change the cursor theme using gnome-
control-center under KDE, or you use Gnome instead of KDE, the problem
does not appears, too.

The bug can be reproduced under all versions of KDE from 4.0.0 to latest
4.2.95.

[Bug 372141] [NEW] Some apps set Primary Buffer with auto select

2009-05-05 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

There are two buffers in X.org — the Primary Buffer and the Clipboard
Buffer, as described here: http://www.jwz.org/doc/x-cut-and-paste.html

But lots of programs, like x-chat or azureus, or any other (all are GTK-
based, so I think, it is a GTK feature) or even gnome-run dialog push
a text into primary buffer even whet it's auto selected, like
autocompletion in gnome-run or autoselect fo the servers in x-chat's
server list.

Such behavior makes primary buffer unuseable, because autoselected text
usually doesn't make sense, but corrupt primary buffer. The proper
behavior, for my mind, is to push the text into primary buffer only with
the user input like mouse selection.

[Bug 369677] [NEW] Compose input broken in GTK apps

2009-04-30 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

The problem occured after upgrade from Intrepid to Jaunty. In the GTK+
based apps, when I try to enter …, using Compose key + dot + dot, I get
a strange symbol — ˙. In other apps like Qt based or Java apps or even
wine apps I get ….

I think, it's a GTK+ bug, but I'm not sure.

2008-11-26 Thread Ben Aceler
Well. I downloaded 2.0.0~rc2-0ubuntu6 :) Manually. It is the latest
(26-11-2008) package at archive.ubuntu.com. I think, it is for jaunty,
but it works.

Still waiting for 2.3.

[Bug 259214] Re: wired connection settings are lost after reboot

2008-11-05 Thread Ben Aceler
OK, according this conversation, I set up eth0 with system interface
disabled, close the network-manager windows, open it again and set
system interface to enable. Only after that policy-tool asked me for
sudo password, so I think, that the problem is, that network-manager
does not update system-wide config file every time it alter the network
settings. But I don;t know what to do with non-system settings.

[Bug 291812] [NEW] Samsung ML1610 prints garbage in 8.10

2008-10-31 Thread Ben Aceler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

The bug is for Ubuntu 8.10 only (cups 1.3.9) - not for any older
version.

The bug is - when printing any document - from PDF, OpenOffice, Firefox,
not matter, KDE or Gnome, printer make a garbage line on the left side
of the paper. The rest of the image prints fine. Bug reproduces onto
installed system (Ubuntu and kubuntu), LiveCD and x86_64 LiveCD (both -
ubuntu).

After loading from 8.04 LiveCD, printer works fine - so this is not a
printer problem.

[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP

2008-09-14 Thread Ben Aceler
IMHO, firefox can be renamed as Daniël H. said, into something obvious.
The problem is deeper - Mozilla maybe first, but not last software
product, which have they own trademark and/or other restrictions, and
Ubuntu needs some mechanism to solve such problems in the future.
