[Bug 1939467] [NEW] GIMP crashes when I tried closing a dock
Public bug reported: Recently did the following. 1. Upgraded linuxmint 19.2 to 19.3 2. Upgraded GIMP 2.8 to 2.10 using the Kesselgulasch PPA I noticed that after the update, GIMP retained the UI layout of the previous version. While attempting to rearrange the layout to something more manageable, I tried closing an exisint dock and it crashed. Output of the bug report below ``` GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.10.14 git-describe: GIMP_2_10_12-511-ga4f55d6c7e C compiler: Using built-in specs. [Bug 1422626] Re: Terminal not maximized when tiling
If it helps, I've put the following code in my .bashrc if [ "$DISPLAY" ]; then activ_win_id=`xprop -root _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW` activ_win_id=$(echo $activ_win_id | awk '{ activ_win_id=substr($0,41,9); print activ_win_id; }' ) xprop -id $activ_win_id -remove WM_NORMAL_HINTS fi I think this removes the WM_NORMAL_HINTS from any terminal emulator. [Bug 1872229] [NEW] screen backlight can't be changed
Public bug reported: Hi, changing the screen brightness in the Ubuntu settings does not change the brightness of the screen. Changing the brightness for example with the fn keys changes the value in /sys/class/backlight/dell_backlight/brightness but not the screen brightness. There is also a /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight but changing the brightness file there manually also has no effect. The acpi_backlight=vendor option did not work out. [Bug 1427981] Re: pthread_join failure
I saw ESRCH problems on one of our applications, which unfortunately leads to aborts() from within libmicrohttpd under certain circumstances. Looking at your sample code, I guess that its main problem is the way you're receiving the thread return value off pthread_join(). Look carefully at it, you're getting a void * assigned to an integer (submitted through the void ** supplied to pthread_join())! So that int shall hold all of a pointer, which formally won't work, and may or may not work, depending on whether or not you're on a 32 bit architecture. You are, however, on a amd64 host, so the program isn't correct here. -f{no-,}stack-protector may change the stack layout, that's why you're seeing differences in testcase execution. That said, on success, your index variable (i) is overwritten by the NULL pointer received from the thread function on success. That's why you always start with i=0 after a successful pthread_join(). That, unfortunately, invalidates the test case, and I need to continue to find the root cause of my very own problem. ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1427981 Title: pthread_join failure To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1427981/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1742603] Re: Kernel 4.13.0-26.29~16.04.2 Causing Crash
I am seeing the same problem I think. The system crashes on boot in kernel 4.13.0-26-generic in Ubuntu , but boots fine on 4.10.0=42-generic. I have a Dell Precision T3600 with a Xeon E5-1620 CPU. ecause the system doesn't boot (even in recovery mode), I cannot run apport-bug to file detailed logs. I can upload a screenshot of the crash if necessary. What I can report from memory is that the crash comes from dereferencing a NULL. On my most recent attempt, the last [Ok] message before the crash related to the sound card, and another one comes up after the error message related to the keyboard. Then everything freezes. I have no reason to believe that either of these modules is actually the culprit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742603 Title: Kernel 4.13.0-26.29~16.04.2 Causing Crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1742603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1418552] [NEW] dhclient uses lots of memory on systems with many interfaces
Public bug reported: This is with 4.2.4-7ubuntu12, but since there's not a lot of code changing in ISC dhcpd (and its client), I guess this is a quite general problem: We're currently preapring a box to test a captive portal, thus this system has a hugh amount (ie. 1000) interfaces bridged to a physical network port. Calling dhclient (with a custom script to configure the different interfaces independently by using non-default routing tables) works perfectly find for the first few interfaces. However, when there are already a few hundred interfaces up, it takes longer and longer for each new dhclient instance to get an IP address. As strace reveals, it seems dhclient scans all interfaces, even several times, during start-up. I guess that it prepares data for each interface that's already configured with an IP address, thus wasting a lot of memory for no good. This should be reported upstream. ** Affects: isc-dhcp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1418552 Title: dhclient uses lots of memory on systems with many interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/isc-dhcp/+bug/1418552/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1199959] Re: Xorg freeze
My initial prognosis of not working on UEFI is incorrect. I think it is the upgrade to 13.10 or 13.04. My laptop sometimes has this same problem and UEFI is not enabled on it. This is a very bad intermittent bug. My computer cannot start up. I honestly do not understand why it has been about a month and the bug has not even been given any priority. At one point I had to reboot 20 times, rebooted into safe mode, rebooted again, and it magically worked. [Bug 1199959] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I am following this link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen This seems to only happen after I switched to UEFI booting from normal booting on the same computer with the same hardware and same OS version. The problem (I think) is happening in step 6. I don't think this is an xorg bug but I don't know what package this goes with. Every so often I will turn on my computer, it will boot, and not display a splash screen. I changed boot parameters in /etc/default/grub to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=drm.debug=0x4 plymouth:debug It will boot and display a mess of startup text like normal. It will then pause for a second, the text on the screen will change (I think it is switching resolutions), it will flicker and die. I get a black but active screen. The LED on the monitor doesn't denote inactivity but active and black. Here is the output of /var/log/plymouth-debug.log. I turned on debugging and had to reboot 4 times before the screen wasn't black. This bug is almost always reproducible. Oh, of more interesting note, I added nomodeset to the startup but that played havoc with unity. I had a gray or black bar on the left section of the screen where the application bar hides and nothing could overwrite it fully. I could have a cursor light up a few characters in this section but withdrawing the window from this section turned it back to solid gray. However, it did boot flawlessly. [Bug 882699] Re: Déjà Dup fails with Got status code 500 when starting backup
There was another strange bug which happened when I created a new backup folder, it wouldn't backup. It would sit there a spin and use all of my ram and eventually crash my computer. I didn't back up for about 2 months which was terribly disappointing and very dangerous for me. I wish someone had said that this is the fix: 1) log onto the Ubuntu One account and remove from sink all of your backup folders 2) start Backup (deja-dupe) 3) configure it to back up whatever folders you want 4) hit start and this will create a new fresh backup. This is not ideal as it wipes the previous set and the upload of around 15GB isn't a trivial amount of time but this is far better than getting a 500 error or crashing my computer. Hopefully a new backup will not be required every time I upgrade ubuntu but for now it seems to work well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882699 Title: Déjà Dup fails with Got status code 500 when starting backup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/882699/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 882699] Re: Déjà Dup fails with Got status code 500 when starting backup
Adding to the fray. This worked perfectly for me in 11.12 and broke in 12.04 apparently with the upgrade. I am creating a new folder and changing backup location. [Bug 72475] Re: apt segmentation faults (core dump) in feisty
I am running Feisty Fawn Herd 1 (AMD64), and I'm also having this issue. The temp fix as listed above: sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin worked for me. All apt-related commands would SEGFAULT in this scenario. I kept the .bin files from /var/cache/apt incase I would need to reproduce this. I am running: apt: Version: 0.6.46.3ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 apt-utils: Version: 0.6.46.3ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 If I copy the .bin files back into /var/cache/apt and try to run an apt- related command, I will get a SEGFAULT again. I can't determine if this is still an open issue with Feisty. If it is still open, please let me know and I will upload the .bin files. Thanks! -- apt segmentation faults (core dump) in feisty https://launchpad.net/bugs/72475 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
