[Bug 986205]

2021-03-27 Thread Björn Michaelsen
resolving as NOTOURBUG, as this is a caused by Ubuntu/Debian packaging:

 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-
openoffice/libreoffice.git;a=commitdiff;h=2e78f0d8b458d1da6d29fe295c7d89a7a376a8d8;hp=d7a82fb84cce7a92f9b84ee67b380f3282f0a19f

_rene_ commited a fix at Debian, so should be fixed with the next
releases of Ubuntu and Debian.

[Bug 1702407] Re: Startup crash after upgrading to 59.0.3071.109 on xenial

2017-07-07 Thread Björn Michaelsen
> @Björn: that crash on zesty, did it have a similar backtrace?

Ups, I miswrote: I saw that issue on xenial and on _yakkety_, not on
zesty. Forgot that I punted that. So NO report from zesty yet (but there
might as well be). Stacktrace looked similar from memory, and esp.
revitalizing with disable-extensions/disable-media-router worked.

Updating bug title as such.

** Summary changed:

- Startup crash after upgrading to 59.0.3071.109 on xenial
+ Startup crash after upgrading to 59.0.3071.109 on trusty/xenial/yakkety

2017-07-06 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Re comment #23:
- This happened to me on both xenial and also on zesty (though it took a while
to trigger on the later)
=> disabling media router (or clearing the profile) fixed it.

Also linking https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=833477 as it
says:

Chrome builds, not chromium (closes: #833477).

[Bug 1680336] Re: libreoffice java based extension cannot find java_uno due to wrong java.library.path

2017-04-07 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Indeed hardcoding the path to the URE is a bug in the extension, not in
LibreOffice.

That Ubuntus LibreOffice resides in proper
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesystem_Hierarchy_Standard directories
and not in /opt is not an Ubuntu invention, but comes from Debian. Also
~every other Linux distro does the same -- its fundamentally the right
thing to do.

Two free hints from IRC to forward to Deutsche Post when asking them to
fix this issue:

Generic hint on setup:
09:47:49 @sberg | Sweetshark, re
:
tl;dr; is the problem that they've got their own Java-based UNO-using process?
Then they should use that "simple bootstrap" stuff
()
or at least use 'unoinfo java' (for which they need to know how to find a LO
installation's

Or use preexisting solutions to this problem:
09:33:24@thorsten | Sweetshark sberg: bubli added that to noa-libre
(somewhere in the libo repo on github), IIRC that was the way du jour when we
discussed it

The latter refers to the custom class loader implementation at e.g.:
https://github.com/LibreOffice/noa-libre/blob/master/src/ag/ion/bion/officelayer/util/OfficeLoader.java

As such, while getting this setup boilerplate right now is a
unreasonable burden on extension developers as of now, there is nothing
wrong per se with Ubuntus LibreOffice here. Rather the extension needs
to do its setup right.

Beyond that, upstream LibreOffice SDK certainly could make this stuff
easier. But that can happen upstream _only_ as to allow extensions to be
able expend the more simple bootstrapping everywhere (from a specific
upstream version onwards).

[Bug 1680336] Re: libreoffice java based extension cannot find java_uno due to wrong java.library.path

2017-04-07 Thread Björn Michaelsen
As such closing invalid in LibreOffice/Ubuntu on this specific issue.
The specific issue needs to be fixed in the extension. The generic
trouble of a simpler bootstrapping is something for upstream to consider
indeed -- but unrelated to the specific issue mentioned here.

[Bug 1673790] Re: bump LibreOffice to 5.3.1 on zesty and fix autpkgtest dependencies

2017-03-20 Thread Björn Michaelsen
So the 1:5.3.1-0ubuntu1 upload stuck on an autopkgtest fail on i386:

https://objectstorage.prodstack4-5.canonical.com/v1/AUTH_77e2ada1e7a84929a74ba3b87153c0ac
/autopkgtest-
zesty/zesty/i386/libr/libreoffice/20170319_020124_b1ad7@/log.gz

the root cause was analysed and let to debian bug 858199:

 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=858199

The fixes by Debian have been cherry-picked as:

https://git.launchpad.net/~libreoffice/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/commit/?id=dad502be3258ede5e21393a90a4682607f3369bd

https://git.launchpad.net/~libreoffice/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/commit/?id=0f96dce6f2a623d22ffc858b2edd7518c94b0903

because of
https://git.launchpad.net/~libreoffice/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/commit/?id=c525f97bab587d69ce56cf81f2edbfb7ae685cd7
we need an (re-)upload for libreoffice and for libreoffice-l10n this
time around. This should be fixed for the future with:

https://git.launchpad.net/~libreoffice/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/commit/?id=485e71dffdaf408d17b51a8118d9bda303b914e3

So kindly requesting an upload of 1:5.3.1-0ubuntu2 for both libreoffice
and libreoffice-l10n as published here:

http://people.canonical.com/~bjoern/zesty/5.3.1/libreoffice-l10n_5.3.1-0ubuntu2_source.changes

http://people.canonical.com/~bjoern/zesty/5.3.1/libreoffice_5.3.1-0ubuntu2_source.changes

The diff should only be the three changes linked above (plus generated
changes).

You have unsupported third party packages installed: "openoffice-debian-
menus"

Remove this package (and other unsupported 3rd party packages should
they be installed) with:

 sudo dpkg --remove openoffice-debian-menus

to return your system to a healthy state. Dont install 3rd party
software if you dont know how to handle it.

Closing as invalid.

[Bug 1673419] [NEW] network-manager gets confused by switching to a hotspot network

2017-03-16 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Step to reproduce (on yakkety):
1/ Create a hotspot "connection"
2/ select "connect to hidden network" and select the created hotspot connection
=> signal icon goes off, which makes sense as client have to connect to use
now, not we to them
3/ Select "disconnect" to pull down the hotspot

Expected result:
Network manager applet returns to a state were available wifis are shown and
can be connected to.

Actual results:
No available wifi connections are shown.

[Bug 1655692] [NEW] snapcraft does not allow dynamically generated metadata

2017-01-11 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Snapcrafts metadata is expected to be static, which might be ok for
smaller packages, but bigger software will often dynamically generate
even metadata like desktop files.

E.g.:

/libreoffice-snap-
playground/tree/setup/gui?id=29980f3f79ea804fd32cf88f07b8eecfbb54ae96

are currently static dumps of files generated by an upstream build.
(Upstream source:
https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/gitweb?p=core.git;a=tree;f=sysui/desktop/menus;h=23368a604813950e5cb78a0574320c5333a3f1d4;hb=584262fed1368dba382d88dfd25fe35ac7d4b349)

Upstream updates to the desktop files will either be ignored currently,
or changes in the snapcraft package will be mangled over by
refreshing/regenerating from upstream (e.g. for updates in
localization).

So it would be great to allow snap package metadata be dynamically
generated by the build (or have a best practice for that).

[Bug 1649620] Re: stuff downloaded during "pull()" is deleted before "build()"

FWIW, as discussed on IRC this still need a documented best-practice
where to put stuff during pull() to be picked up during build() --
accompanied with a promise from snapcraft to keep that particular
practice working (or at least: providing proper warnings ahead of time
and an easy migration path in case it will be broken).

[Bug 1649620] Re: stuff downloaded during "pull()" is deleted before "build()"

2017-01-06 Thread Björn Michaelsen
So, just retried this locally with a clean environment, I see the same
issue: The stuff that was downloaded in "pull()" is deleted before
"build()".

Please advise on where to put stuff during "pull()", so that it is found
during "build()". The natural place would be parts/ -- but
that is deleted. There obviously needs to be a place were the stuff gets
put in "pull()", so that it can be picked up during "build()", best
without needing yet-another-copy. That place also needs to be clearly
documented.

In the best case this is just a trivial documentation change, so I allow
myself the liberty to set this to priority high as this is blocking
LibreOffice snapping.

** Summary changed:

- snapcraft local run differs from launchpad run
+ stuff downloaded during "pull()" is deleted before "build()"

** Description changed:

  Building:
-
https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-libreoffice/+git/libreoffice-snap-playground/tree/?h=xenial=d1b909a03e2ec4ac224babb75606fc4fcb70f5ce

on launchpad failed with a link error/missing symbols. Trying to
reproduce on a local xenial system, I find this failing as -- while the
pull() phase is executed -- the parts/ dirs are cleared for some reason,
leaving the machine without any source when it starts with the build
  phase.

I worked around that by adding a self.pull() at the start of def

Still an issue apparently:
https://code.launchpad.net/~canonical/+snap/libreoffice-snap-test

This blocks creating libreoffice-snaps on lp, which is pretty much a
requirement for providing timely updates.

As a sidenote, I am still wondering how this is supposed to work on lp
at all: If whatever is fetched during "pull()" is cleared before
"build()" -- how should there ever be anything to use in the second from
the first?

[Bug 1624571] Re: White lines visible around toolbars in LibreOffice when using GTK3 and a dark theme

2016-10-05 Thread Björn Michaelsen
> This is actually a bug in the GTK3 implementation of LibreOffice.

Well, rather its a fault of theme creators to ignore libreoffice-gtk3
despite it being around and shipped for testing since at least Ubuntu
12.04 -- exactly to bring it up to speed. The rushing to fix things now
is entirely self-inflicted (same goes for me fixing the Ubuntu themes
only this late, then again someone else could have at least given that a
try too).

[Bug 1619442] Re: An empty bar appeared above the toolbar after upgrade to version 5.2 (Unity7/gtk2)

2016-09-19 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Also not reproducible when updating from a prestine Xenial to Yakkety,
the update installs libreoffice-gtk3 (as it should).

Reproducible only after and explicit (and not recommended) "sudo apt
install libreoffice-gtk2 && sudo apt remove libreoffice-gtk3" then.

So this doesnt happen in default installs, only with ppa builds or when
explicitly removing libreoffice-gtk3.

[Bug 1619442] Re: An empty bar appeared above the toolbar after upgrade to version 5.2 (Unity7)

2016-09-19 Thread Björn Michaelsen
NOT reproducable on a fresh default yakkety install from 2016-09-19 daily ISO
(which defaults to gtk3).
Reproducable on there only when doing an explicit:

 sudo apt install libreoffice-gtk2
sudo apt remove libreoffice-gtk3 # also removes libreoffice-gnome

which should be a weird cornercase. => priority medium, libreoffice-gtk2
is fading away anyway (on Ubuntu and upstream).

Still need to reconfirm that a Xenial=>Yakkety upgrade always installs
-gtk3.

[Bug 1619442] Re: An empty bar appeared above the toolbar after upgrade to version 5.2 (Unity7)

2016-09-19 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Can confirm this with backport 1:5.2.1~rc2-0ubuntu1~xenial0 and gtk2
backend.

Workaround: Use gtk3 backend, installing libreoffice-gtk3 should be
enough (Please report back if that doesnt suffice, libreoffice should
prefer gtk3 over gtk2 if both are installed).

In case, gtk3 is installed but is ignored (which it shouldnt, please
report), forcing LibreOffice to gtk3 with:

 SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3 libreoffice

would be a workaround.

[Bug 1623580] [NEW] snapd strips Exec= lines from .desktop files which should be legitimate

2016-09-14 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

According to: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/snappy/guides/meta/
Desktop files with lines like:

 Exec=${SNAP}.${APP} %U

should be valid. However, libreoffice defines a "libreoffice" app in
snapcraft.yaml (https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-
libreoffice/+git/libreoffice-snap-
playground/tree/snapcraft.yaml?h=xenial#n73), but the exec lines like
(https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-libreoffice/+git
/libreoffice-snap-playground/tree/setup/gui/libreoffice-
writer.desktop?h=xenial#n24)

 Exec=libreoffice.libreoffice --writer %U

still get filtered out, thus rendering these .desktop files useless.

(21:20:57) elbrus: Sweet5hark: ok, but am I correct to say this is Ubuntu
specific?
(21:21:13) elbrus: In Debian, the build was OK (in pbuilder)
(21:22:47) Sweet5hark: elbrus: yes, this is likely ubuntu specific. testbuilds
up to libreoffice 5.2.0~rc4 were fine, then it broke, likely by a cups update.
(21:29:19) Sweet5hark: elbrus: you might help triaging if you downgrade cups

(21:30:16) Sweet5hark: elbrus: FWIW, "in Debian" is somewhat ambiguous, given

(21:57:02) elbrus: trying again with the CUPS env var
(22:15:03) elbrus: Sweet5hark: with your fix, winff builds in my pbuilder

(22:20:13) ricotz: elbrus, jbicha, it likely works if the host system has a
running cups instance
(22:29:42) elbrus: Sweet5hark: thanks a lot, I now have a successful build in

The theme needs the patching as per libreoffice-toolbars-320 branch

[Bug 1616982] Re: fix initialization of DEB_VENDOR for derivatives

2016-08-30 Thread Björn Michaelsen
If you fork Ubuntu packages, you have to fork them properly: This stuff needs
to happen downstream at ubuntuBSD anyway.
Note that the Ubuntu customization is NOT to be used for ubuntuBSD, there are
big warnings about that e.g. GOOGLEAPI_APIKEY_UBUNTU, so compiling the with the
Ubuntu config would be wrong anyway.

Finally, note that properly forked downstreams actually might depend on
the Ubuntu specific to be applied for them and this "fix" would break
them.

[Bug 1616548] [NEW] Cups causes LibreOffice unittests to loop in a sbuild

2016-08-24 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

When building LibreOffice 1:5.2.0-0ubuntu1 on a xenial host with a
yakkety sbuild, e.g. by:

sbuild -A -d yakkety-amd64 (...).dsc

this loops/busy hangs with unittests. This was working ok up to
5.2.0~rc4 (=final), it is a regression by a LibreOffice dependency, most
likely CUPS, which was updated.

I tried to inject debug symbols by running with a: --chroot-setup-
command and then run something along the lines of:

 apt install cups
 wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/278966811/cups-dbgsym_2.2~rc1-4_amd64.ddeb
 wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/278966816/libcups2-dbgsym_2.2~rc1-4_amd64.ddeb
 dpkg -i cups-dbgsym_2.2~rc1-4_amd64.ddeb
 dpkg -i libcups2-dbgsym_2.2~rc1-4_amd64.ddeb

before starting the build proper, but I got only marginally better debug
info. The hanging LibreOffice test processes usually have 2-4 child
processes. The parent and one of the childs are busy, while the rest
idle.

Here is a stacktrace of the busy child:

Program received signal SIGPIPE, Broken pipe.

Here is a stacktrace of the busy parent:

Thread 3 "CUPSManager cup" received signal SIGPIPE, Broken pipe.

) at emit.c:145
#6 0x in ?? ()

When pressing "c" in gdb to continue, both processes stop very quickly again
with the SIGPIPE.
Venturing a guess: Is the signal handling of CUPS b0rked? As fgetspent reads
the shadow file[1], maybe there are missing permissions or other sandbox issues
that CUPS doesnt handle error cases for properly?

[Bug 1612226] [NEW] Calc EDITING - Selecting a Range pressing enter and dragging Closes App

2016-08-11 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Using the 5.2 Snap Release under Ubuntu OS when selecting a range of Cells By
Highlighting and Pressing Enter Then trying to move then by dragging closes the
app. This does not happen in my 5.1 install. Have attached the stdout when
starting the app from the command line (not sure this is of any use?)

[Bug 1592873] Re: snapcraft packs full paths to the build location

2016-06-22 Thread Björn Michaelsen
This seems to be a Heisenbug. I cannot reproduce it every time, though
it certainly happens[1].

I am not sure I have seen this on a build running through from start to
finish. So this _might_ be something that only happens when restarting a
partial build. (Which is not that uncommon for LibreOffice and because
of its size one is less likely to throw away and start again for this
hours long builds).

[1] see
https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/4ocwft/a_third_of_a_libreoffice_snap_lo_snap_size/d4bm2mw
for a particulary embarrassing instance.

[Bug 1595173] [NEW] death of child processes go unnoticed in snapcrafts env sometimes?

2016-06-22 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

So ... this isnt completely triaged yet. Here is what I observe so far:
LibreOffice builds with full l10n sometimes gets stuck in ways they dont
when building on a plain Ubuntu 16.04.

The stuck state is as follows:

- make doesnt create new jobs
- make has no child processes

It appears that make doesnt notice jobs have finished and that it should
start new jobs. I assume this is hitting LibreOffice harder than other
builds as we have > 100.000 targets even without l10n -- and probably a
few 100.000s more with l10n.

[Bug 1592867] [NEW] grapwiz/dot as installed by snapcraft doesnt work for builds

2016-06-15 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Using e.g. the snapcraft stuff from:

https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-libreoffice/+git
/libreoffice-snap-
playground/tree/?h=xenial=15c07cbe81299f1d867654855ce61bf4c72064a4

an unattended build is not possible, as dot isnt properly configured.
Instead a "sudo dot -c" is needed:

https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-libreoffice/+git
/libreoffice-snap-playground/tree/libreoffice-
build/Makefile?h=xenial=15c07cbe81299f1d867654855ce61bf4c72064a4#n57

to make dot not fail. As sudo requires a password, this prevents
unattended builds (and the build env should never need to run anything
with root privs anyway).

[Bug 1592873] [NEW] snapcraft packs full paths to the build location

2016-06-15 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Building and snapping LibreOffice as per:

https://git.launchpad.net/~bjoern-michaelsen/df-libreoffice/+git
/libreoffice-snap-
playground/tree/?h=xenial=61a7acbd2c71ce34eca0a8f4c221fa47104af002

packs paths like:

 /home/bjoern/checkouts/libreoffice-snap/

into the final snap. While these can be manually removed, this prevents
unattended builds. Also, snapcraft should IMHO never use/include the
absolute path to the build location for anything in the final product.

[Bug 1588283] [NEW] copy plugin -- requirement of "files" key is confusing/incosistent

2016-06-02 Thread Björn Michaelsen
Public bug reported:

Using a part like in the attached snipplet copies all of
/usr/share/fonts/* into the resulting snap. This is likely desireable
for a lot of scenarios instead of listing each and every individual file
under the "files:" key.

But "files:" and "snap:" seem to do the same then. Documentation should
be explicit on how to use them and what the differences are.

Given that "snap:" already exists, I wonder what the added value of
"files:" is anyway. Couldnt everything "files:" does be covered by
"snap:" and, if so why have "files:" at all? and require it as non-
optional?
