[Bug 1880626] [NEW] Xubuntu minimal screen lock hangs
Public bug reported: I have an installation of xubuntu from the Mini.iso with xubuntu-minimal and just a handful of other mainstream packages - google-chrome, chromium, gvfs and supporting drivers. The system is functional and responsive and shows no major issues after boot. However, after some time idle, the screen lock engages and never returns. The fan blows hot suggesting something consuming 100% CPU. It takes a long time for the password box to appear. When it finally appears and accepts a password it seems to never resume a login session (waited 5 or 10 minutes). During this whole process CTRL+ALT+F1 is ignored so I cannot investigate from a TTY. [Bug 1772321] Re: Ubiquity issues installing Lubuntu Bionic daily
Sorry for the rollup bug and I appreciate the feedback. I don't normally file bugs like this, but I thought I would document what I encountered during the rare and hard-to-repeat event of reinstalling my main laptop, especially since it all related to ubiquity, in case it had value for anyone. Hope it was clear from the title that this related to Lubuntu, which might explain e.g. differing fonts and window layouts. So what should the difference be with respect to 'minimal install'? I was expecting lubuntu-core without lubuntu-desktop, but I ended up with Firefox and the whole shebang. Perhaps my expectations are wrong. If you are not able to reproduce that's good news. Perhaps something got fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772321 Title: Ubiquity issues installing Lubuntu Bionic daily To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1772321/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1772382] [NEW] TLP does not configure tpacpi-bat
Public bug reported: I am aware that the linrunner ppa doesn't yet target Bionic, but I am running the tlp version distributed with bionic and have the ppa configured for any future updates. According to... https://github.com/evgeni/tp_smapi/issues/14#issuecomment-7801094 The tpacpi-bat workaround targeting models like my Thinkpad X230 is rolled up in tlp since 0.3.7. [Bug 1772321] [NEW] Ubiquity issues installing Lubuntu Bionic daily
Public bug reported: This is a rollup of the issues I encountered when I finally succeeded at installing the Bionic daily (desktop build) which I downloaded today. Looked great, but I had a number of issues initially when it wasn't able to handle any pre-existing files eventually I deleted all the system files and moved /home/.ecryptfs and /home/user into a 'prev' folder then it allowed the install to proceed and complete successfully. However... * My selection within ubiquity of a minimal desktop was just straight-up ignored, and all of the desktop packages were installed regardless. * During the install ubiquity warned me "Before you can select a new partition size any previous changes have to be written to disk etc. etc." However, I had not asked for any resize (in fact my system partition was not even being formatted). * During the install ubiquity showed me a window which was too large (long) for the desktop, hiding the 'Continue' buttons which needed to be clicked. The window read... - "The file system on /dev/sda5 assigned to / has not been marked for formatting. Directories containing system files (/et/, /lib, /usr, /var) that alre" and went off the window at this point meaning I had to drag the window across into view to be able to see there were even any buttons to click. If there is a workaround for ubiquity ignoring the request for a minimal desktop it would be handy to know. I can install packages myself and would rather start from nothing rather than having to hunt through all the defaults removing them one by one. [Bug 1756857] [NEW] Routine system hang across multiple versions and devices
Public bug reported: I have been experiencing a hang (typically triggered when Google Chrome is open, but then Google Chrome is always open on my laptops). It makes the system entirely unresponsive to mouse or keyboard (including CTRL+ALT+F1) for several minutes, at which point it suddenly catches up with a whole load of input events and returns to full responsiveness. Happens once or twice a day, and happens very frequently when I return to a machine which has been idle for a while. I have experienced this with both Lubuntu Artful 17.10 (the Thinkpad X230 machine I am reporting from), but also two other machines a Toshiba Portege R600 and a Dell N5110 both running Bionic. It may be related to accessing the filesystem (e.g. launching a Save file dialog from Chrome), but can equally be triggered by e.g. launching a Terminal, which presumably causes the /etc/profile file to be read. At this stage I can't even establish what is going on. Can anyone suggest diagnostic steps? [Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29
Yes, it's a freeze and not just graphical. Resuming from a good kernel makes OpenSSH available remotely even with no input at the lock screen. However, resuming from a bad kernel when the screen is black, OpenSSH is unavailable remotely. This suggests that the OS has hung altogether in the black screen case and it's not just a display issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1743094 Title: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1743094/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I get no login screen and just a black screen on resume from hibernate. When experiencing the black screen I can't use CTRL+ALT+F1 to switch to a terminal. The fan doesn't spin up. I don't have a CAPS LOCK light, so I can't tell that way. Simply a non-responsive machine with a black screen. I think it's the same as the OP, given the kernel version it appeared, fact it's a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 and apparently identical behaviour. If there are steps I can take to help with triage happy to do so, but I currently have no means of investigating further, given there is no way to even tell the machine is running or not.
[Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29
I note some others have had failures booting 4.15 even though a recent mainline based on 4.15 allowed me to resume my desktop from hibernation successfully. Probably goes without saying, but saying it anyway. If you don't use the same kernel for boot and for resume, I speculate that could create some issues, so hopefully everyone who is testing a given kernel makes sure they clean boot and hibernate resume using the same grub kernel option. Hibernating with one kernel configuration, and resuming with another would have unknown stability I guess. Sorry to waste time if this is already stated somewhere else. I'm not sure if it's a freeze or just a graphical issue in my case and there may be two bugs at work here it sounds like. Will try to figure out if mine is indeed a freeze to check Ariel's flagging my reported bug as a duplicate of the one experienced by the OP in this thread.

Note that using Kernel Mainline (4.15) also seems to sidestep this bug, unless that's a false negative for some other reason (e.g. kernel mainline has an implicitly different load configuration, so isn't creating the conditions for the bug). [Bug 1744065] [NEW] Black screen on return from hibernate since at least 4.13.0-25
Public bug reported: On the prior kernel installed on my machine, (4.13.0-21) the laptop will return from hibernation fully functional, showing a login prompt and bringing back the desktop. Since upgrading to this kernel image (4.13.0-25), the laptop boots, shows the Lubuntu splash screen, but then never shows either a login prompt or desktop - just a black screen as if the backlight is not on. A short-term workaround proven to work is to choose Advanced from the Grub menu and boot only into the 4.13.0-12 kernel version. However, this is not a long-term option. [Bug 1723826] [NEW] Regression in ecryptfs-recover-private
Public bug reported: I had given up trying to recover my encrypted home directory from my bootable USB key with ecryptfs-utils 111-0ubuntu5 and was encountering the error below. However, seems that a change in the ecryptfs-recover- private utility since version 107-0ubuntu1 was causing the intended mount folder not to be created. Passphrase: Inserted auth tok with sig [cc0ba99aac1dcfd8] into the user session keyring mount: /tmp/ecryptfs.PTL9aYAz: mount(2) system call failed: No such file or directory. ERROR: Failed to mount private data at [/tmp/ecryptfs.PTL9aYAz]. The invocation was as follows sudo ecryptfs-recover-private /media/cefn/lubuntu- lexar/home/.ecryptfs/cefn/.Private/ ...which prompts for the login passphrase, which seems to be accepted, but then leads to the failure to mount. However, I tried running the same routine with the same USB key on an older machine (originally running Vivid Vervet 15.04 and currently with ecryptfs-utils version 107-0ubuntu1). On that system the identical procedure successfully mounts the encrypted folder, making me think it's a regression. [Bug 1676810] [NEW] Network Manager needs restarting from sleep
Public bug reported: Each time my laptop is suspended and resumed, Network Manager seems unable to bring up Wifi. Calling... sudo service network-manager restart ...resolves the problem. I therefore placed the attached file at... /lib/systemd/system-sleep/network-manager ...which provides a workaround for the problem. [Bug 1676525] [NEW] Nm-applet menu cannot retain focus on hover
Public bug reported: When trying to use nm-applet to choose a network, clicking on the arrow makes the menu appear, but as soon as you move your mouse over the menu and it gains focus, it gives you about half a second max before disappearing, making it essentially impossible to use. [Bug 1638373] Re: End marker/start marker drop-down menus are empty
As a workaround I downloaded libpoppler58 .deb and the libpng12 .deb which it required, then put them in the same folder and ran from that folder in terminal... sudo dpkg -i libpoppler58_0.41.0-0ubuntu1.1_i386.deb libpng12-0_1.2.54-1ubuntu1_i386.deb ...before attempting to install Inkscape stable again which succeeded. Please note, my architecture is i386 and yours may be different, so download the correct matching .debs for your platform. I searched for Xenial packages in each case. Seems libpoppler58 can live alongside libpoppler61 if necessary - nothing needed to be downgraded or uninstalled that I could see and Inkscape stable seemed to launch and run OK after this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1638373 Title: End marker/start marker drop-down menus are empty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1638373/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1445581] [NEW] Defunct Kupfer Process
Public bug reported: Running Kupfer in a LXDE session served within a Crouton chroot. It seems to have entered a defunct state (without any special events having taken place) and it is impossible to kill. Normally you could work around this, but unfortunately because of the way Kupfer forces itself into a 'splash' foreground overlay on all desktop ports, it actually causes its box to appear over everything else which is impossible to remove and hence forces you to restart the desktop session from scratch. A window manager restart (openbox --restart) is not enough, it just repaints the same box as a light grey overlay instead. kill -9 cannot kill the process and it continues to be reported in ps like this which I think means it's waiting on file io and is a zombie process... cefn 14379 0.0 0.9 934808 36004 ?DApr16 0:14 /usr/bin/python /usr/share/kupfer/kupfer.py --no-splash ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: kupfer 0+v208-3 Uname: Linux 3.10.18 x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: LXDE Date: Fri Apr 17 17:56:29 2015 PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: kupfer UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: kupfer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1445581 Title: Defunct Kupfer Process To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kupfer/+bug/1445581/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1445618] Re: HPLIP Gui fails to provide PPD
This appears to be a problem which arises implicitly because CUPS is not running properly on my crouton Ubuntu build. I fixed the issue by following the guidance at https://github.com/dnschneid/crouton/wiki/Printing to ensure that CUPS was indeed started up and that I had the correct group memberships, then the PPD was automagically generated by CUPS dynamically. Although the error could be more informative (i.e. given that you don't actually need a PPD file, and it seems to be a CUPS failure) but otherwise it was the fault of my own system configuration. Along the way, for others' reference, I found the attached PPD by extracting data from the HPLIP installer which may in fact be the correct file, although I haven't tested it since CUPS intervened providing a PPD before I reached this setup stage. The file naming from HP seems to correspond to the correct model anyway. ** Attachment added: hp-lj_300_400_color_mfp_m375_m475-ps.ppd https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/1445618/+attachment/4378736/+files/hp-lj_300_400_color_mfp_m375_m475-ps.ppd ** Changed in: hplip (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1445618 Title: HPLIP Gui fails to provide PPD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hplip/+bug/1445618/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1425510] Re: Default IM configuration causes hangs
Summary: At this point I have a stable desktop where I don't have to reduce my touch-typing speed by a factor of 20 in order to achieve any text input at all (which is how it was this morning before disabling IBUS in my Language Support preferences). I think ibus-gtk was already installed by default, and selected (at least that's what shows in the Language Support GUI). However, I don't know how ibus-gtk relates to xim, and the problems between xim and e.g. Inkscape remain unspoken. The assertion that no IM module was installed seems to be an assumption from @happyaron but it's hard to tell if that's what he meant, or why, from his very short comment. However, querying the environment variables by running 'export' in bash you see... declare -x GTK_IM_MODULE=xim ...both before (when ibus was selected) and after selecting 'none' in the Language Support GUI and logging out and in again. I have no idea where this is coming from, but I suspect it's to do with im-config, given it explicitly exports that environment variable I couldn't find another reference to it in my profile or session files, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I installed SCIM manually, (scim-gtk-immodule) following advice online that running applications with SCIM was a good way to workaround the bug/feature interaction/whatever (no-one seems to want to talk about the actual bug), as described at http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29t=18042 which I needed to resolve because of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/1385009 IBUS seems to also be related to this serious bug I was also experiencing... https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=456766 so disabling it seemed like a good idea. Given my keyboard input is all in ASCII (as you'd expect from a en-GB or en-US configured laptop) I fail to see why there's internationalisation support baked into my desktop anyway, especially if it's buggy and prevents so many applications on the desktop from operating. However, so far I would say I have a slim grasp of what the actual bug might be, despite all the reports I've read. So far, only workarounds and buck- passing. Searching the repositories for anything to do with a binary or lib ending xim gives me the following, and neither im-switch or uim-xim are installed... $ apt-file search --regexp 'xim$' cyrus-common: /usr/share/doc/cyrus-common/README.exim cyrus-doc: /usr/share/doc/cyrus-doc/README.exim debian-lan-config: /usr/share/debian-lan-config/fai/config/scripts/MAIL_SERVER/10-exim devscripts: /usr/share/doc/devscripts/examples/forward.exim exim4-daemon-heavy: /usr/sbin/exim exim4-daemon-light: /usr/sbin/exim im-switch: /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/default-xim im-switch: /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/th-xim logcheck-database: /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/sa-exim logwatch: /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/exim mlterm-common: /etc/mlterm/xim postgrey: /usr/share/doc/postgrey/README.exim sa-exim: /usr/share/lintian/overrides/sa-exim sks: /etc/sks/forward.exim sks: /usr/share/doc/sks/sampleConfig/debian/forward.exim uim-xim: /usr/bin/uim-xim ** Bug watch added: code.google.com/p/chromium/issues #456766 http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=456766 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425510 Title: Default IM configuration causes hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/im-config/+bug/1425510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1425510] Re: Default IM configuration causes hangs
Hi, Aron. Thanks for looking into this bug for me. I acknowledge what you're saying that it's someone else's fault, but without more detail about what you actually think is going on, this may be misinterpreted. I personally have no idea what is going on, and can't contribute to resolving this through other projects' bugtrackers without your contribution. What 'kind' of bug is in the applications, that means an im-config change can workaround it? Recently, keyboard input problems, including loss of responsiveness and loss of individual key events, seem to apply to almost all of my applications actually (even incredibly simple ones like Geany and Terminal), so if all of these applications have the same problem, I doubt whether it's an individual application developer at fault. Regarding the Chrome bug, when you say you have to get GTK2 IM Module installed that is not a package name, so I can't install it. Are you implying that the fault is in not having any IM Module installed? (I have to read between the lines as your comment was very terse) I already have both ibus and scim installed, (and ibus was selected under PreferencesLanguage SupportKeyboard Input Method System), so this is not the case on my system. I also can't file an upstream bug to get anyone to package it (either Chrome OR Chromium - where Ubuntu maintainers can control packaging). Do you have one or more package names from Ubuntu repositories that your suggestion might relate to. For reference, those others experiencing a problem, I've found a workaround right now (on Lubuntu) is to entirely disable international input support, by going to PreferencesLanguage SupportKeyboard Input Method System and selecting 'none', then restarting the system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425510 Title: Default IM configuration causes hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/im-config/+bug/1425510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1425510] [NEW] Default IM configuration causes hangs
Public bug reported: Certain applications have associated input hangs, where no key input events can be sent which sometimes clear after some time, and in at least one case (Inkscape), this is eliminated by running from Start-Run as follows, hence overriding the declaration of GTK_IM_MODULE in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70im-config_launch , distributed in im-config... bash -c unset GTK_IM_MODULE inkscape A permanent fix on my machine could be to modify the 70im-config_launch file, or declare an overriding export in some later .rc file. Anyone know where I should make this declaration if not modifying package- maintained files? An alternative solution could be to install scim-gtk-immodule and run... bash -c export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim inkscape See also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/inkscape/+bug/1385009 Similar behaviours are experienced with Kupfer - minutes of hang with apparently no input events being passed, followed by (sometimes) unfreezing. I'm running Lubuntu Utopic with LXDE and Compiz (minimal dependencies on GTK), so it's feasible that some component is not properly declared in a dependent package. I can't find whether there is in fact a xim module available and running anywhere on my system. How can I check? Other input issues relating to out-of-order key event delivery to Chrome-based applications are experienced on the same build, but I think this may be an independent bug, ostensibly resolved by declaring IBUS_SYNC_MODE=1 https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=456766 but thought I should mention as it's kind of in the same subsystem and may be linked. I speculate that there is some missing dependency or bad configuration in the default presentation of IM capabilities, which eventually causes a DBUS timeout or similar, eventually causing a fallback without any international input, but which is functional. I don't understand the circumstances which prevented these options from being available in the first place, but wanted to report the bug so that others can gather information when they experience the same thing. The experience was as if all the controls were somehow disabled. I wonder whether it's something to do with a failed polkit initialisation meaning that permissions weren't properly negotiated. Public bug reported: Even though xfce-power-manager-settings reported it can suspend, suspend is authorized and a lid is detected, no option to suspend on lid close appeared and lots of options were greyed out. I was investigating because lid close didn't trigger suspend on a previous occasion. However, after running the report below, now the expected options have just appeared again! [Bug 1063617] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values

[Bug 1271596] Re: Terminal Windows disappear after gnome-shell restart
The focus issue persists after dragging the terminal window to a different display. After dragging to a second display it's possible to see the window is painting, where other windows do not fill the screen. [Bug 1262807] [NEW] wl doesn't seem to load with BCM4311 on Mint 16
Public bug reported: I tried to install the Broadcom STA source version of the Broadcom drivers, by running... sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source The install progresses well and appears to be fine, until, during the build process, the attempt to... modprobe wl ...which takes place after DKMS has built the module hangs indefinitely, requiring a kill, even if b43 and ssb are unloaded. Then if you inspect lsmod the wl module appears to be there but cannot be removed, despite having no other modules using it. No network behaviour is visible within network manager. An identical issue remains even after a full reboot at this point. If you remove the blacklisted entries from /etc/modprobe.d it's possible to go back and install both b43-fwcutter and firmware-b43-installer and this provides functional wireless, but the driver is unable to accept power management instructions, which is why I'm trying to get the newer, allegedly more stable, source to work. [Bug 1262826] [NEW] Compiz settings not reloaded
Public bug reported: I can load compizconfig-settings-manager and make changes to the plugins there, which have immediate effect (e.g. enabling Static Application Switcher by its checkbox causes Alt+Tab to allow window switching). However, if I close and relaunch ccsm it reverts to a default configuration of active plugins, ignoring the previous changes I've made. It appears that after a reboot, the same is also true - changes made through ccsm in the previous session are now lost, and no application switcher is active any longer. This is an issue which seems to have persisted across multiple desktops (this is on Mint, but I've experienced it also in Xubuntu and Lubuntu and even in full-blown Ubuntu in the past, I believe). [Bug 1255526] [NEW] Guayadeque blocks my desktop with a blank splash rectangle
Public bug reported: When I launch Guayadeque, it eventually launches its full window (after about 2 minutes). It's fairly buggy and unstable when running too, but a really valuable app for the music sources it serves up. During the time it launches, it seems to paint an unmovable splash screen over the top of all my other windows, making the desktop unusable for about 2 minutes. This seems like an optional and probably buggy behaviour, and is fairly irrelevant to its role as a music player. Is it possible to only show the splash screen for a certain limited period, or make it a splash screen which doesn't overwrite my entire desktop preventing me from seeing other windows. [Bug 1255584] [NEW] PM-Hibernate does nothing on Dell N5110
Public bug reported: I installed pm-utils, then ran sudo pm-hibernate, which simply made the screen flash, and nothing else happened. [Bug 1248105] [NEW] Gnome-Control-Panel fails to install functional Canon MP280 driver
Public bug reported: I attempted to use Gnome-Control-Center to install a USB-attached Canon MP280 printer and it failed. I then proceeded to install the .deb packages using gdebi which were hidden inside the tar.gz package from http://support- nz.canon.co.nz/contents/NZ/EN/0100301402.html [incidentally the ./install.sh logic inside the tar.gz aiming to automate this process fails now that both rpm and deb are installed on Ubuntu - violating it's implicit assumptions]. I'm not sure if the MP280 driver was even needed, as I believe the same error was delivered by gnome-control-center before and after installing this package. The error from the console reads... (gnome-control-center:21465): printers-cc-panel-WARNING **: Installation of the new printer failed. However, I was disappointed to find that logging in to CUPS (localhost:631) and installing the printer that way worked first time. [Bug 1248145] [NEW] Guayadeque promiscuously downloads lyrics for everything
Public bug reported: I'm using the Jamendo tab and playing music with the Lyrics tab turned off. Nevertheless, for every track played, Guayadeque makes a series of many many unwanted HTTP requests to Lyric servers, as shown below. I'm trying to establish why Guayadeque hangs regularly in the middle of playback of Jamendo songs, and I found this wasteful behaviour and wondered if it may be contributing (e.g. hanging some control thread, holding on to threads until they run out). This behaviour should be turned off by default anyway, in my view. I had no idea these requests were being made. However, when the Lyrics are not active it should _definitely_ not be doing it. A workaround might be to go through manually disabling every Lyrics server within preferences, but this is a lot to expect people to do by default. I have no interest in the lyrics, there aren't any anyway, and the results are being ignored by the program, so why do this by default? 11:46:30: Trying to get url: http://lyrics.wikia.com/Chill_Carrier:Never_Far_Apart 11:46:31: Delete expired Cache elements done 11:46:31: Trying to get url: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/chillcarrier/neverfarapart.html 11:46:31: Trying to get url: http://www.coveralia.com/letras/never-far-apart-chill-carrier.php 11:46:36: Trying to get url: http://www.directlyrics.com/chill-carrier-never-far-apart-lyrics.html 11:46:36: Trying to get url: http://www.elyrics.net/read/C/chill-carrier-lyrics/never-far-apart-lyrics.html 11:46:37: Trying to get url: http://letras.terra.com.br/winamp.php?musica=never%2Bfar%2Bapartartista=chill%2Bcarrier 11:46:39: Trying to get url: http://www.loudson.gs/C/chill-carrier/dazzling-fragments/never-far-apart 11:46:40: Trying to get url: http://www.lyrics.com/lyrics/chill-carrier/never-far-apart.html 11:46:43: Trying to get url: http://www.lyrics007.com/Chill+Carrier+Lyrics/Never+Far+Apart+Lyrics.html 11:46:45: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricsbay.com/never_far_apart_lyrics-chill_carrier.html 11:46:45: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricsdownload.com/chill-carrier-never-far-apart-lyrics.html 11:46:46: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricsmania.com/never_far_apart_lyrics_chill_carrier.html 11:46:48: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/C/chill_carrier/never_far_apart.html 11:46:49: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricsreg.com/lyrics/chill%2Bcarrier/never%2Bfar%2Bapart/ 11:46:49: Trying to get url: http://www.lyricstime.com/chill-carrier-never-far-apart-lyrics.html 11:46:50: Trying to get url: www.lyricsvip.com/Chill-Carrier/Never-Far-Apart-Lyrics.html 11:46:51: Trying to get url: http://www.lyriki.com/chill_carrier:never_far_apart 11:46:53: Trying to get url: http://www.metrolyrics.com/never-far-apart-lyrics-chill-carrier.html 11:46:53: Trying to get url: http://www.mp3lyrics.org/C/chill-carrier/never-far-apart/ 11:46:54: Trying to get url: http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Chill-Carrier/Never-Far-Apart.html 11:46:55: Trying to get url: http://www.songlyrics.com/chill-carrier/never-far-apart-lyrics/ 11:46:57: Trying to get url: http://vagalume.uol.com.br/chill-carrier/never-far-apart.html 11:46:57: Trying to get url: http://vagalume.uol.com.br/chill-carrier/never-far-apart-traducao.html ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: guayadeque 0.3.5~ds0-4ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Nov 5 11:44:21 2013 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-10-29 (7 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-GNOME 13.10 Saucy Salamander - Release i386 (20131017) MarkForUpload: True ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_GB:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: guayadeque UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: guayadeque (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 saucy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1248145 Title: Guayadeque promiscuously downloads lyrics for everything To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/guayadeque/+bug/1248145/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I can't figure how it was kartograph, but at some point or another, some python-based installer has grabbed their own copy obviously. [Bug 1240425] [NEW] WPA network connection always triggers password confirmation
Public bug reported: Every time I boot or resume my machine at the office, where there is a WPA network, I am prompted for the authentication details and forced to connect manually. The username and password are automatically filled in from the last successful attempt, and clicking 'connect' is successful. However, this reveals an underlying bug, probably to do with the consistent failure of the first connection attempt owing to timeouts being hit (extra startup time when first initialised?) This may have the same underlying cause as https://bugs.launchpad.net/wicd/+bug/1084380 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1084364 that wpa_supplicant takes a while to connect, and network-manager doesn't appreciate that it needs more time under certain circumstances, like the first connection attempt. Fixing this will make ubuntu MUCH BETTER for many many people I suspect, where they are permanently struggling with no network and a popup window where no such failure was necessary - e.g. the network and adapter are all fine. [Bug 1239873] [NEW] Trackpad Pointer disappeared with recent update
Public bug reported: Sometime in the last couple of days updates (I refresh pretty regularly), the trackpad pointer just disappeared within Gnome shell. The trackpad works while typing in my username and password, the pointer is visible and moves as expected. However, the moment that I log in to gnome-shell, the pointer disappears and no mouse movement can be made. Attaching an external mouse is semi-functional, although after any short period of idle time not moving the external mouse (e.g. more than 10 seconds) it is necessary to click before further mouse movements events are sent. As part of the power configuration, this laptop uses a customised rc.local as attached, although I don't know if any of these are related to the failure (this specialised configuration has been installed in the laptop for many months). [Bug 1239873] Re: Trackpad Pointer disappeared with recent update
It seems that some aspect of a recent update switched my trackpad to 'off' within gnome-settings. Visiting gnome-settings and reactivating the trackpad was necessary to keep it functioning. The separate issue (that the external trackball was losing connectivity) is the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1060029 and was resolved by the workaround of plugging in power to the laptop, at which point the mouse continues working even after a period of idleness. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239873 Title: Trackpad Pointer disappeared with recent update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1239873/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1234450] [NEW] Laptop Screen doesn't return after suspend
Public bug reported: I've been using an external screen, (as an extended desktop). When I travel home from the office, I turn it off (in Gnome Display manager, so that only the laptop's primary screen is active), physically disconnect it, and suspend the laptop to travel. At home when resuming without an external screen, the Laptop screen doesn't come back on, though plugging an external monitor to VGA1 reveals a part of the extended desktop. It seems that X is still seeing the primary LVDS1 screen (attaching a projector seems to show only the extended desktop, toolbars menus and programs only appear on the hidden primary screen). Sometimes the same issue also affects the laptop from a clean boot (occasionally I have no screen, though the machine appears to be booting). Doing a hard reboot once or twice triggers the screen to come back on. [Bug 1226704] [NEW] qtcreator claims to have installed examples when they are not there
Public bug reported: As a (potentially) new user of Qt as an environment and development toolset, I was really disappointed to find that the examples promised on the website, and indeed the installed package were not actually there! This initially made it impossible to start learning how to use the tool in the way described by the introductory material. In fact, I discovered after much difficulty that multiple separate example packages were all listed with the suffix '5-examples' within the ubuntu repository and had to be installed separately and individually by identifying the unique name of the specific subpackage of examples, then installing that package. Given the choice of packaging by the maintainer, the qtcreator introductory page should certainly not claim... I quote You can test that your Qt SDK installation is successful by opening an existing example application project. On the Welcome page, select Examples (1).. The website should not claim it either, given the choice of packaging, but this is probably beyond our control. If qtcreator is to be distributed separately from its examples, a metapackage should be provided with a meaningful name, which depends on all the example packages so that adopters can acquire all the examples easily. The naming convention, since it doesn't include a string identifying the toolkit and version is fairly hard to decrypt (they should not be called qtscript5-examples, but rather qt5-script-examples if you want people to be able to find them). Though I believe it is a flawed naming scheme, a metapackage called qt5-examples would assist with the issue if the maintainer wants to keep it. [Bug 1226662] [NEW] Regression in input behaviour - International Keyboard Setting ignored
Public bug reported: Although the Gnome key preview indicates that I've successfully configured my desktop to use a UK English keyboard, in fact the events generated within X cause US English characters to be typed. I'm pretty sure this is a regression as it's only a few days ago I noticed keys were mapped incorrectly, and this normally stands out (e.g. I can't get my work done very effectively with missing characters for programming syntax). [Bug 1223719] [NEW] Trackpad scrolling regression
Public bug reported: As of a recent reboot, my trackpad no longer triggers scroll events. I haven't changed any settings within gnome to my knowledge. I had just upgraded xorg - a new version appeared in the main repositories yesterday or so. I'm running the latest saucy mainline kernel too for reference... $ uname -a Linux cefn-saucy-portege 3.11.0-031100-generic #201309021735 SMP Mon Sep 2 21:44:40 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux Not much more detail to report. The whole of the trackpad now works as a trackpad, and there is no longer any scroll behaviour, where previously there was a column on the right of the trackpad which triggered scroll events (which was good). Two fingered scroll has always been grayed out on my Mouse and Touchpad settings on this machine. Sadly one of the reasons I'm running Ubuntu Gnome is to get my trackpad configured properly. Looks like a regression somewhere between the mainline kernel and xorg or gnome-shell settings. [Bug 1222871] [NEW] Corrupted painting of window surfaces
Public bug reported: Attached is an example of a problem behaviour of horizontal black lines which affects Evince, Guadayeque and other programs on my desktop. The corruption is progressive (when first opened, apps don't tend to have the problem, happens on a per-window basis, (moving another window over the area is not corrupted) and seems to permanently affect certain in-memory glyphs (e.g. even after a restore and maximise, the icons in some applications remain similarly corrupted). [Bug 1220631] [NEW] Gnome-shell freezes when running looking glass
Public bug reported: I was aiming to do some work to bring this critical extension back into a functioning state against 3.8... https://github.com/csoriano89/Extensions-enhance-overview/issues/3 Invoking Alt+F2 lg to launch looking glass offers a semi-transparent overlay and a script interpreter which is superficially functional (if you don't move your mouse around) I can get a report of window actors for example, by following the Gnome-shell debugging walkthrough. However, if I move the mouse over the top bar of the looking glass application, the whole of Gnome-shell freezes and needs to be relaunched in order to get any interactivity back. X clients are still operational after an CTRL+ALT+F1 and kill and restart of gnome-shell on DISPLAY=:0 Attached is the standard error from gnome-shell which results from replicating the issue deliberately (after an initial restart of gnome- shell). In the meantime, given I can't fix the extension, is there any way at all that I can filter the overview to show windows which belong to a specific application. This is a critical capability for modern desktops, where in my case I can have 15 or so browser windows and the same number of Evince windows when doing research. Without filtering, as provided by Unity and Expose, it's essentially impossible to navigate the desktop. [Bug 1220821] [NEW] Kernel Panic playing Youtube
Public bug reported: Hi, there. Was playing the video at the footer of http://www.instructables.com/id /Arduino-controlled-RGB-LED-Infinity-Mirror/?ALLSTEPS within the latest version of Google Chrome (at the time of writing) and it caused a Kernel Panic (CPU maxed to 100%, fans running hot, unresponsive mouse pointer, keyboard, a cycling sound sample from the video and CTRL+ALT+F1 was unresponsive). After rebooting, Apport offered to file a bug, which then told me it had already been reported, and only to comment if I could add extra information to the bug. It promptly redirected me to a 404 on launchpad, identifying no bug at all. Just before the kernel panic, the machine seemed to become unresponsive, kswapd0 was using an increasing amount of CPU (even though memory was relatively free - about 60% RAM and 30% swap (whilst I could still actually observe the stats, and before the slowdown and crash). Can anyone identify what the bug actually was, since Apport refused to file it for its own personal reasons? Since apport is broken, I can't access the bug and establish if it is indeed the same bug, or see if there are workarounds. I'm now running the latest mainline kernel based off linux-*-3.11.0-031100-generic_3.11.0-031100.201309021735_i386 (which is saucy final if I understand the mainline directories correctly). [Bug 1220821] Re: Kernel Panic playing Youtube
I'll try again to reproduce, but it seems to be something related to runaway swap process, (which might arise only when I hit a certain memory utilisation) and in practice appears to happen after a while of browsing, loading programs etc. rather than instantaneously whenever that particular kind of activity is run. I can get away with some browsing around, a few occasions of successful fullscreen vimeo or youtube playback, and then I get unlucky and a hang. I usually have media playing (background audio on headphones when video isn't playing), but other than that the hosted processes are quite passive (e.g. multiple instances of evince with open documents and HTML pages with disabled flash - I disabled flash to run only on click because of this issue). Media provides an intense load on top of the existing latent memory and cpu load from other light-use programs I suppose, which might create the conditions for some kind of livelock/deadlock/race which is otherwise luckily avoided by just having more free resources. Also worth noting that I'm using powertop optimisations hard-coded in rc.local (nothing I invented myself) to maximise battery life. Hopefully these aren't related to the issue, but I can attach them if needed. I'm running the memoryx86 test now, but so far (2 hours in) there's no errors, so I guess it's not memory-related. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1220821 Title: Kernel Panic playing Youtube To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1220821/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1218224] Re: VGA Output not activated
OK, so attached is the result of a two-reboot cycle. Initially (first reboot) I didn't have the monitor attached at all. Then I ran your diagnostic scripts (output in post-reboot-unattached). Then I attached the monitor. Then I ran your diagnostic scripts (output in post-reboot-attached- after). Throughout this process, no signal was received by the monitor, even though the Gnome randr GUI detects the correct manufacturer, shows that the monitor is on, and indicates that it is using the correct resolution. I finally rebooted the laptop WITH THE MONITOR ATTACHED DURING the reboot and that was the only way it successfully started sending a signal. I then ran the diagnostic scripts for a third time (output in post- reboot-attached-during). I have not bothered to work with a suspend/resume condition, as it happens whenever the monitor is not attached on boot anyway, whether or not I suspend/resume. ** Attachment added: Script I ran, and series of three conditions in separate directories. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1218224/+attachment/3799362/+files/xrandr_debug.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218224 Title: VGA Output not activated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1218224/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1219964] [NEW] Kernel Panic while editing Gmail
Public bug reported: Hi there, I seem to hit kernel panics while running chromium-browser recently. At the point of the last kernel panic I was typing in Gmail, with only audio running otherwise. [Bug 1218224] [NEW] VGA Output not activated
Public bug reported: If I carry my suspended laptop into work and then connect it to the external Dell U2410f the monitor seems to be identified (visible in Grandr) but activating it doesn't cause any image to appear (it seems the signal is not sent). In order to succeed at seeing anything, I have to reboot the machine entirely, with the monitor attached, at which point it not only sees the monitor, but also sends it a signal. [Bug 1218309] [NEW] Gnome-shell freeze
Public bug reported: I was just using the desktop in a regular way (a few Evince PDFs and Chromium windows open only - with Flash disabled on all tabs if I recall correctly). Then gnome-shell seemed to freeze. No keyboard shortcuts or mouse clicks had any effect (although the mouse pointer was moving, and CTRL+ALT+F1 was able to recover the session by killing and restarting gnome-shell on DISPLAY=:0 This suggests to me that there was no issue with X or with any of my programs (which are still running and interactive as they were before the freeze). This apport was gathered with gnome-shell from TTY1 with DISPLAY=:0 on TTY7 still within its freeze state, and before the shell kill and replace. Incidentally I have to run... xhost +local:root ...to be able to sudo any GTK programs to DISPLAY=:0 after a gnome-shell --restart otherwise they segfault (e.g. ubuntu-bug segfaults). Next time I'll remember to do this before running apport, as this bug may have corrupted or limited the information gathered. [Bug 1215476] [NEW] External USB trackball and keyboard become unresponsive when not used
Public bug reported: I'm running a laptop with the attached (powertop) interventions to improve power-saving behaviour. Having used Ubuntu Gnome Saucy for some time with xorg-edgers, I decided to roll back to xswat for stability reasons (was getting crashes when playing flash/Youtube within Chromium). However, after several hours of use, I found that the trackball and keyboard are now non-functional when events weren't detected from them for 10 seconds or so, although continuous use keeps the device working just like https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1060029 After the device has suspended, generating a click event (on the trackball) or a key event (on the keyboard) causes the device to come back to life, but the event is consumed (ignored) meaning, for example if you want to type something, you can expect initial characters not to appear. Moving the trackball alone doesn't bring the trackball back online, only a click. This seems an intermittent issue, as the device was working fine for a long time during this boot session. I'll first try rebooting with the xswat drivers, and then roll back to the ubuntu repo for testing. For reference, running the attached script which reverses the conservative power configuration doesn't resolve the issue, even though it seems to modify the /sys/bus values correctly. Where do I need to run the ln command (in which directory)? [Bug 1215476] Re: External USB trackball and keyboard become unresponsive when not used
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1060029 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1060029 I discovered that a colleague had unplugged the power lead from my laptop (it was running on battery), so I think that means it's an identical bug to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1060029 so I'll mark as duplicate. However, this is important as it's a different machine and OS build altogether. Will check with a mainline kernel. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1060029 Wired trackball fails while on battery power (module unload issue?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1215476 Title: External USB trackball and keyboard become unresponsive when not used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1215476/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1060029] Re: Wired trackball fails while on battery power (module unload issue?)
This remains with a different kernel (3.11) and a totally different laptop, bios and trackball (though it's an identical model - I have two). I don't think the model is that relevant, as it also applies to a generic USB keyboard I'm using. I'm now in a position to replicate the bug on two different laptops - a Toshiba R600 and a Dell N5110 eliminating the BIOS issue as a possible cause I think. It's been a latent bug for me as it's a rare occasion that I'm using external keyboard and trackball WITHOUT power - normally those things go together when I'm docked at a desk in the office. However, I just rediscovered the bug when a colleague removed my power without me noticing. Another line of investigation is the use of powertop scripts for auto-unloading of USB modules as listed in the duplicate bug I've filed... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1215476 ...though this is expected to 'just work' and indeed the bug remains even when auto-unloading is explicitly deactivated (though there may be a bug there I suppose - the power/control sys bus files report that the unloading config has changed from 'auto' to 'on', but it still seems to disconnect the devices). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1060029 Title: Wired trackball fails while on battery power (module unload issue?)
