[Bug 280785] Re: No Window Borders when Desktop Effects Enabled
In my case, after I installed the compiz settings manager and checked which decorator it was using, for some reason it said emerald even though I can't recall setting it that. Even if I did, I didn't have emerald installed after the update, so the system had broken somehow. All I did was reset the decorator to the default and restarted compiz and I had my borders back. -- No Window Borders when Desktop Effects Enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280785 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 258073] Re: liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
Bug has been confirmed with the latest intrepid beta. I was able to boot into the system only after blacklisting rtl8180. If the module is loaded and I try to bring wlan0 up (either by NetworkManager or manually), the whole system freezes. The problem is not NetworkManager, but the kernel module itself, as after replacing NetworkManager with wicd I got the same problem of rtl8180 freezing the system. The best option would be to blacklist this kernel module before shipping 8.10 final. -- liveCD doesn't boot to gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Can confirm the same problem on my Vostro 1500 (Nvidia GeForce 8400) ** Attachment added: no_borders.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18689539/no_borders.png -- No Window Borders when Desktop Effects Enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280785 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 258073] Re: liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
I was able to figure this out after installing debian lenny. Can confirm that is a problem with rtl8180 that ships with 2.6.26 onwards and NetworkManager (currently running 0.6.6-2). Dropping into runlevel 1 and doing /etc/init.d/network-manager start causes the system to halt. If I do rmmod rtl8180 and then start network- manager, then the system runs fine. After modifying /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and blacklisting rtl8180 and then booting normally works and the wireless card works with ndiswrapper. Will download intrepid nightly to confirm that this is the issue. -- liveCD doesn't boot to gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 258073] Re: liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
Can confirm that the beta doesn't fix this; downloaded the beta and tried to boot it, and booting failed. Can also confirm that it's not a kernel issue. I was able to install 8.04 and use update manager to upgrade to 8.10 successfully. I think it might be my Belkin F5D7000 v7 network card (an rtl8185 chipset). I'll try removing it during the weekend and then boot, and let you guys know the result. -- liveCD doesn't boot to gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 258073] Re: liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
Further information: I've tried removing the keyboard/mouse and I still got the same problem, so maybe that's not it? I have a wireless card that's a Belkin F5D7000 with a realtek rtl8185 chipset. Is the rtl8180 kernel module loaded by default in Alpha 4? If so, I can try removing the wireless card from the PC and see if I can get into gnome then. Sorry that there isn't more technical info in this, but I can try different things that anyone suggests in order to resolve this. -- liveCD doesn't boot to gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/258073 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 258073] [NEW] liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
Public bug reported: Downloaded intrepid ibex Alpha 4 and burned it to a CD, and that worked fine. I burned it, and it shows the option to install, try without installing, etc. I selected the try without installing option, and I see the loader, but then the keyboard and mouse die and I'm left with just a blinking screen, i.e. it never gets to gnome. I think it's a problem with the hot-pluggable thing that was added in Alpha 4. I also tried the install without trying, and it installed fine, but then on first boot, it seems as though it's loading, but then the system stops at the beige screen and the keyboard and mouse are not responsive. P.S. It's an intel motherboard with a Nvidia 6200 AGP graphics card, a PS/2 keyboard, and a USB mouse. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Downloaded intrepid ibex Alpha 4 and burned it to a CD, and that worked fine. [Bug 183839] Re: USB file transfers extremely slow and eventually cause kernel freezes
Ditto on the slow copying from HDD to USB. In nautilus, after the file has reached 100% (i.e. 0 seconds left) it still sits there for about 20-30 seconds before it'll actually finish writing the data on the USB drive. -- USB file transfers extremely slow and eventually cause kernel freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/183839 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
