[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site

2010-03-15 Thread Daniel Robitaille
mgl, the only workaround I found was, in Ubuntu Lucid, to install wine
1.2 + windows's firefox 3.5 + windows's flash 10. As long as you make
sure that graphics acceleration is turned off in that version of Flash
for Windows, videos on both Global and CBC work fine for me. And the
quality is surprisingly good for an wine process, even on this
underpowered 5-year-old laptop.

Global used to work fine in Ubuntu in native mode, but they semi-
recently changed the way they present ads, and that's what seems to have
broken it.

[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site

2009-10-29 Thread Daniel Robitaille
I just tried it using Firefox 3.0.14 on an Ubuntu 8.04.3 system, using
Flash 10, and the videos on that web site didn't play. Could it be that
cbc.ca is blocking video access for people using OS not named Windows
and OSX?

[Bug 445078] [NEW] [Karmic] Dell Latitude 110l -- Hotkey for Hibernate incorrectly suspend the laptop

2009-10-06 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

On this Dell Latitude 110L laptop, the laptop goes in Suspend mode when using
the hotkey for Hibernate (Fn-F1). The keycode for that event is:
keycode 213 = (keysym 0x1008ffa7, XF86Suspend), state = 0x10

If I use the hotkey for Stand By (Fn-ESC), the laptop correctly goes to Suspend
mode. The keycode for that correct behaviour is:
keycode 150 = (keysym 0x1008ff2f, XF86Sleep), state = 0x10

So both XF86Suspend and XF86Sleep generate the same event and suspend
the laptop.

Hibernate mode works correctly on this laptop when I manually select it
from the top Gnome Panel.

[Bug 22075] Re: [Breezy] pcmcia modem card not recognized as a modem

2008-08-28 Thread Daniel Robitaille
As the original reporter of this very old bug report, I have to report
that while I still have access to that laptop (currently running Hardy),
I don't have access to that pcmcia card (or any pcmcia cards for that
matter). So I cannot test to see if this problem is still present in
Hardy, or if this new kernel would solve that specific problem.

Hopefully someone else here has one of these XJ1144 cards.

[Bug 180473] Hardy regression: cannot come back from suspend on Dell Latitude 110l

2008-01-04 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi-support

One of the update to Hardy in the last few days seems to have kill
suspend on my Dell Latitude 110l. It suspends properly. But when it
tries to resume I only get a black screen but with the mouse pointer
alternating between the arrow and the busy circular mouse pointer.

The only way out of there is to do a ctrl-alt-backspace which reboot the
laptop. I'm not sure which updated package broke it this week.

That laptop has properly suspended for a long while (since probably
Hoary or Breezy), so this problem in the last couple of days is a very
new one.

[Bug 174823] Incorrect font size in status bar of VLC

2007-12-07 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

The font size of the text/numbers in the status bar is incorrect, at
least at the resolution on my laptop. The end results is that some
information is hidden. For example if a audio file has a total length
of 1 hour, 29 minutes, 22 seconds, I can only see a total length of
1:29: while the file is playing.

This is with VLC in Hardy, but I have seen the same problem with VLC in

This is still a problem with both Feisty and Gutsy. Gutsy is up to date

than Tribe 2. If this problem is related to Bug #30949, then it
appears is due to a Dell BIOS bug.

[Bug 109728] Re: Democracy Player crashes on search

2007-04-27 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Thank you for this bug report. Ubuntu only provides the older version
0.8.4 of the Democracy Player for Edgy. For problems with version
0.9.5.3 you will have to talk to the Democracy Player developers
directly to sort out if that problem is due to that new front page
interface in that newer version. Their bug report system is at:
https://develop.participatoryculture.org/trac/democracy/report

I believe version 0.9.6 is coming soon, so hopefully this bug will be
solved in that latest version.

[Bug 110474] Re: There is no direct upgrade path from LTS to feisty

2007-04-27 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Thank you for your bug report. Conservative users are supposed to stay
on the LTS version until the next LTS version (probably the version
released in spring 2008). For the less conservative users they will
upgrade every 6 months to the next version available and would have
already been on Edgy by the time Feisty was available. So upgrading
directly from Dapper to Feisty, skipping Edgy, doesn't fit either
scenario, and is not officially supported.

The release policy of Ubuntu is spelled in a bit more details on the web
site: http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatIsubuntu/releases

[Bug 91637] Re: Evolution displays wrong time after new dst

2007-03-27 Thread Daniel Robitaille
What I get in Dapper is that this patch correctly fixed the incorrect
time inside Evolution (for Pacific/Vancouver time zone). So If I go in
Evolution-Calendars, the red line indicating the current time is now
correct (it wasn't before). As for individual appointment, they are now
MOSTLY correct. I have some old reccurring weekly appointments that are
still off by an hour for the period between March 11 and the end of
March. But they are correct for the weeks before March 11, and for the
weeks starting in April.

But this problem with reccuring appointments doesn't happen for newly-
created appointment; so it seems to only affect old appointments that
were created before the switch to DST and/or before this round of
evolution patching.

[Bug 85663] Re: Only empty pages printed on Lexmark Z42 and Ubuntu 6.06

I don't know specifically about the z42, but I know that the drivers for the

I would guess that possibly you have the same problem than in that bug
report.

They was an attempt to backport these newer print drivers into Dapper 6.06 to
solve these type problems, but I'm not sure about the status of that attempt:

[Bug 60897] Re: [Edgy] Desktop CD stalls/hangs when Install to Disk is double-clicked

2007-01-17 Thread Daniel Robitaille
I tried a Edgy Live instal tonight and it started properly (I didn't
complete the installation since I didn't want to reinstall my OS
tonight). So going from 256mb to 768mb of ram on this laptop solved the
problem in Edgy that I had with both the Live Installer and Firefox.

So in my case all signs seem to point toward the fact that 256mb of ram
is not enough to have a LiveCD session that works correctly and let you
install from it.

I tested the installation using the Live CD with Feisty Herd 2, and it
worked fine on my laptop. But like I wrote the other day, this laptop
now has 768mb of ram instead of 256mb, which may have an effect on this
problem.

Henrik: I currently don't have a Edgy Live CD to test this. But I was
going to try to install Feisty Herd 2 using the Live CD once it is out,
which I understand will be very soon.

But yesterday I finally upgraded the ram in this laptop from 256mb to
768mb, so I'm hopeful this problem will go away due to the extra ram.

[Bug 16750] Re: Should add an 'unbind' command

to add an unbind feature to mutt. See for example this proposed patch
against mutt 1.5.1:

[Bug 65821] Re: edgy beta - mutt sasl authentication broken

2006-10-26 Thread Daniel Robitaille
I have installed Dapper's mutt (1.5.11-3ubuntu2.1), which needs to
install libgnutls12 as well, on my Edgy computer and the problem went
away.

So it would seems the problem is with the mutt package in Edgy, or due
to mutt's transition from libgnutls12 to libgnutls13

The debug log when using Dapper's mutt (1.5.11-3ubuntu2.1) in Edgy:

And this is using Edgy's mutt (1.5.12-1ubuntu1) in Edgy with the exact same
mutt configuration:

[Bug 65821] Re: edgy beta - mutt sasl authentication broken

2006-10-25 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Tonight I tried mutt for the first time on Edgy (with my fastmail.fm
email account, so a similar situation to Brad), using the exact same
mutt configuration I'm using successfully under Dapper, and I get that
exact same problem: A SASL authentication error is displayed in red
when mutt tries to connect to the fastmail imaps server.

A google search turns out this:
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.mail.mutt.devel/11618

but I'm not sure if this is related to this specific problem in Edgy
since this is specific to cyrus-sasl

[Bug 67771] Incorrect Gecko version date in about window of Ubuntu's Firefox

2006-10-23 Thread Daniel Robitaille
Public bug reported:

In the Help --About Firefox window, the latest Firefox in Edgy (2.0
+0dfsg-0ubuntu3) reports using the Gecko engine Gecko/20060601. This
old date is obviously incorrect.

Downloading a version of Firefox directly from mozilla.org (I tried
2.0rc3) shows a more realistic date (Gecko/20061010).

So it seems there is something in the Ubuntu-specific way of building
and patching Firefox that seems to reset that version date to an older
and incorrect value.
