[Bug 877884] [NEW] file utility truncates UUID for LUKS-encrypted volumes

2011-10-18 Thread David Tomaschik
Public bug reported:

When I use the file utility against a LUKS-encrypted volume, it claims
to report the UUID of the volume, but the UUID is truncated 5 characters
short.

I run:
sudo file -s /dev/sda2
/dev/sda2: LUKS encrypted file, ver 1 [aes, cbc-essiv:sha256, sha1] UUID:
462f8ffc-1a87-4eeb-970c-120f09c

But blkid (correctly) reports:
sudo blkid /dev/sda2
/dev/sda2: UUID=462f8ffc-1a87-4eeb-970c-120f09ca3671 TYPE=crypto_LUKS

As you can see, the a3671 is truncated from the output of file.

Re: [Bug 580295] Re: Unity: Alt-F2 not working

2011-02-24 Thread David Tomaschik
There are a large number of documents out there the describe Alt+F2 as
a means to enter a command. Why should this functionality not be
available with Unity?

Personally, if Alt+F2 is to be enhanced, I'd take a look at OS X's
Spotlight for an example of good usability.

At present, I am amazed at how many things there are that are more
difficult to achieve with Unity than with the classic Gnome UI.

Re: [Bug 580295] Re: Unity: Alt-F2 not working

2011-02-24 Thread David Tomaschik
@papukaija: Then the Unity documentation should state that it will
offer significantly reduced functionality compared to the status quo
on Gnome. I don't want to get off-point on this bug, but IMO, Unity
is a big step backwards for Linux on the Desktop. I can only hope
that the current version of Unity in the Natty dailies will have
massive improvements before the release of Natty.

Please stop adding new implementation suggestions. According to

@David: The original Alt+F2 launcher is part of Gnome's panels which
Unity doesn't use as explained in comment 1.

[Bug 579104] [NEW] Rhythmbox hangs if started with connected Sandisk Sansa

2010-05-11 Thread David Tomaschik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

With my Sansa Fuze connected, starting rhythmbox gets so far as to load
the icon in the Indicator Applet, but doesn't proceed any further.
Clicking on the icon does not display any menu.

To reproduce:
1.) Attach Sansa Fuze
2.) Start Rhythmbox
3.) Note that rhythmbox doesn't function

Expected behavior:
Rhythmbox starts and allows interaction with the fuze.

If I connect the Fuze after starting Rhythmbox, everything seems fine.

These two screenshots do not look similar to me. Yours appears to be a

as your graphics card, driver versions, and other hardware information.
Please run apport-collect 577223 to allow apport (automatic bug

[Bug 576066] [NEW] ums_cypress missing from lucid server cd

2010-05-05 Thread David Tomaschik
Public bug reported:

The Lucid Server Install CD is missing the ums_cypress.ko driver, but
the usb-storage driver has ums-cypress devices blacklisted.
Accordingly, I cannot install from a CD for any of my blades located in
a Blade Chassis that uses a Cypress chipset for the USB drive.
(Specifically, an IBM BladeCenter H, type 8852-HC1.) This is a
significant impact to testing Lucid on several blades. (I'll be trying
to prep a USB key to see if that works.)

Since this is hardware-specific, I cannot reproduce in a VM to provide
specific log information.

This bug is older, however the other bug has official comment from

duplicate of that bug. They have also confirmed this to be a server-
