[Bug 1802617] Re: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device
Candidate Work-around: For the case of disabling swap, I was able to eliminate the boot-time error with the following actions: Remove swap line from /etc/fstab Remove swap line from /etc/crypttab Remove /swapfile apt purge cryptsetup apt autoremove (clean up cryptsetup dependencies) The updates to /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab were not enough to eliminate the error message at boot. It seems cryptsetup was still doing something in the boot sequence that caused it to try and create an encrypted swap file. Purging the cryptsetup package was necessary to eliminate the error message. Therefore, this issue may be relevant to both the Ubuntu upgrade process and the cryptsetup package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1802617 Title: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1802617/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1802617] [NEW] After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device
Public bug reported: After upgrading from 18.04.1 LTS to 18.10, all reboots of the system give a boot screen with the error: "cryptsetup: Waiting for encrypted source device /swapfile..." After a minute or so, the graphical boot screen with that message is replaced with a console screen reading: "ALERT! encrypted source device /swapfile does not exist, can't unlock cryptswap1. Check cryptopts=source= bootarg: cat /proc/cmdline or missing modules, devices: cat /proc/modules; ls /dev Dropping to a shell BusyBox v1.27.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.27.2-2ubuntu4) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs) _" Typing exit at the initramfs prompt gets the boot to continue. The boot continues to a working system and graphical login. The system was configured in 18.04.1 LTS to have encrypted home directories and no swap file. It looks like the /etc/fstab got a new swapfile line somewhere during the upgrade process. However, commenting that out and rebooting does not affect this issue. [Bug 1745619] [NEW] Failed to open local calendar with "Timeout was reached"
Public bug reported: After booting into a GNOME session, Evolution was started. Mail appeared as expected. When the Calendar section was opened, none of the calendars opened including the local calendar. A blue report was printed under the toolbar with the error that it could not open the local calendar as "Timeout was reached." [Bug 1594047] Re: menus do not appear in the menu bar
The unity "System Settings," "Appearance," "Behavior," "Show the menus for a window" setting takes two options: "In the menu bar" or "In the window's title bar." Wolfram Mathematica, GNU Emacs, Java applications, and possibly others display menus under the window's title bar in the traditional way. This happens regardless of the value of "Show the menus for a window." In addition, applications run as a different user than the desktop user are also unable to render menus as per the setting. The unity interface does not have an option to show menus under the window's title bar. Therefore, it is impossible to maintain a consistent user experience. Menus cannot be shown in the same location for all applications. If moving the menu bar is a goal, then one way to approach the problem might be to use separate bugs for each widget toolkit, application, and type of use. For example: * Bug #1596369 for Java applications using Swing * Bug for Wolfram Mathematica. May not be fixable if application code must be changed. * Bug for GNU/Emacs * Bug for running applications as a another user than the desktop user It would also be useful to provide users an option for the traditional behavior: * Bug to add "Below the window's title bar" to the Appearance system settings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1594047 Title: menus do not appear in the menu bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1594047/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1603304] Re: Window title bars not shown with Radiance theme
Summary of test sequence: 0. Baseline 16.04 LTS works as expected 1. Apply updates 2. Reboot 3. Observe that Unity session renders title bars in dark gray of Ambiance theme even though Radiance is selected. 4. Observe that changing from Radiance to Ambiance and back to Radiance does not resolve the issue. Title bars remain dark gray. Set to Ambiance since that is the one that is consistent. 5. Reboot 6. [Bug 1600053] [NEW] system scaling factor ignored for page rendering
Public bug reported: Mozilla Firefox has a layout.css.dpi preference with a default value of -1. This preference is documented as: "Use the host system’s logical resolution or 96, whichever is greater, for interpreting dimensions specified in absolute units. (Default)" as per http://kb.mozillazine.org/Layout.css.dpi On Linux, the value of -1 should cause Firefox to use the GTK scaling factor. Additional details are available in Mozilla Bug 712898 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=712898). Unity System Settings -> Displays includes a slider for "Scale for menu and title bars." When set to 1.12 instead of the default value of 1, the text on all GTK dialogs including body text, menus, and title bars are all scaled. In addition, the text in Terminal is scaled. In Firefox, the text in about:preferences is scaled consistent with the elements of other applications. However, the page rendering is not scaled. Page scaling seems to be unaffected by the system setting. The expected behavior is that the scale value set in System Settings -> Displays should affect Firefox page rendering when the Firefox layout.css.dpi preference has its default value of -1. [Bug 1594035] Re: unable to shut down the system after suspend / resume
As noted by @loyeyoung, a better work-around than the one in Comment #2 may be to disable swap rather than running with an encrypted home directory and unencrypted swap as that state is a security liability. [Bug 1598313] [NEW] Files icon disappears from Launcher
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Files is not running. No Files windows are open. 2. Unlock Files from the Launcher - it is removed from the Launcher 3. Use the Ubuntu keyboard button to open the Dash 4. Type Files and hit enter to open a Files window 5. Observe that the Files icon for the new window appears on the Launcher 6. Observe that the Files icon then disappears from the Launcher a second later without any actions having been taken by the user Expected Behavior Step 6 should not occur. When Files in run and a Files window is open, then the Files icon should show on the Launcher with appropriate indicator for the corresponding open window. The test system did not exhibit this behavior before July 1, 2016. Some updates were applied via aptitude on July 1, 2016. A recent update may have triggered this bug. [Bug 1587189] [NEW] progress hangs at half when installing updates
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Software was run manually. The Updates tab was selected and one update was reported. The item was OS Update. The button was clicked to install the update. The expected behavior was that installation should proceed consistently to 100%. The observed behavior is that the button label changes to Installing and the button progress bar progresses to about 50%. At 50% the progress stops and it just sits there without any other visible output to the X session. The Ubuntu Software application is still responsive. It is possible to select the All and Installed tabs and the display will update as expected. However, the Updates tab remains stuck on 50%.
