[Bug 615224] [NEW] Update to CouchDB 1.0.1 to fix data loss bug
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: couchdb Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha 3 has CouchDB 1.0, which is affected by a serious data loss bug: http://couchdb.apache.org/notice/1.0.1.html It should be updated to CouchDB 1.0.1 as soon as the release is cut (next couple of days). I am not simply distro patching the bugfix for the data loss issue because it is spread across several files and several different commits by different people over a couple of days, and I think we should ship the official 1.0.1 release that has been carefully tested rather than cherry-picking out this one patch and possibly getting it wrong. ** Affects: couchdb (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Elliot Murphy (statik) Status: Triaged ** Tags: dataloss ** Changed in: couchdb (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Elliot Murphy (statik) ** Changed in: couchdb (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: couchdb (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- Update to CouchDB 1.0.1 to fix data loss bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615224 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 587108] Re: fresh install couchdb dumps errors and crash report into log file
The error: {error_info,{exit,eaddrinuse, makes me think there is another couchdb instance already running. Can you tell me more of the story of how you went about setting this up (I just want to be able to think through what could have happened so that things ended up like this)? I'll also explain some more about CouchDB in Ubuntu just in case it helps with understanding how things fit together, and then maybe some other clues will show up about where the bug is. In Ubuntu, we use couchdb as part of the standard desktop installation, but don't run a system-wide CouchDB instance on the default port. This is done with the desktopcouch package and python module. If you are looking to write a user application with CouchDB, I recommend looking at quickly, desktopcouch, and slipcover to get some ideas for what is possible - none of this is advertised very well right now but we will be adding a lot of info on it to the new developer manual in 10.10. If you are looking to write a server application that communicates with a standard CouchDB on the system port, installing the couchdb package should take care of bringing the server up for you, and futon should work ok. The couchdb package actually only contains the init script, all the binaries are in the couchdb-bin package. CouchDB depends on having a javascript engine available, and it uses libmozjs.so (this is the mozilla spidermonkey js engine). In Ubuntu, this library is only available as part of the xulrunner package, and I've seen some interesting crash situations before where couchdb appeared to load ok, but as soon as you tried to use something like futon it would crash when trying to load a missing libmozjs.so. From the error report you pasted it looks like a port conflict rather than a missing .so, but I'm mentioning it just in case you are working on a server app and start wondering why xulrunner is pulled in when installing couchdb. -- fresh install couchdb dumps errors and crash report into log file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587108 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 460974] Re: Replication log contains token and token secret so can't be pastebinned
This bug was about sanitizing the secret tokens out of log messages. That code is working as intended. Bug #533769 shows that the log messages do have the secret tokens scrubbed. That bug also shows that an erlang crash dump still contains the secret tokens, and have not been scrubbed. Regardless of the language, core dumps, backtraces, tracebacks, all may have sensitive information in them, and there are policies set up with the bugsquad triage guidelines to be sure that this info stays private. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/HowToTriage/ Here is the logfile excerpt from the other bug: 2010-03-07 14:24:43,942 ERROR can't replicate 'rtg)test' 'http://localhost:47571/' == {'source': 'rtg%29test', 'target': {'url': 'https://couchdb.one.ubuntu.com/u%2F630%2Fb96%2F52053%2Frtg%29test', 'auth': {'oauth': {'consumer_secret': 'HiddenHidd', 'token': 'Hidden', 'consumer_key': 'ubuntuone', 'token_secret': 'HiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHiddenHi' Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/desktopcouch/pair/couchdb_pairing/couchdb_io.py, line 274, in replicate content=record) File /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/couchdb/client.py, line 985, in post **params) File /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/couchdb/client.py, line 1035, in _request raise ServerError((status_code, error)) ServerError: (500, ('case_clause', '{error,{{{case_clause,{error,illegal_database_name}}, [{couch_rep,open_db,2}, {couch_rep,do_init,1}, {couch_rep,init,1}, {gen_server,init_it,6}, {proc_lib,init_p_do_apply,3}]}, {child,undefined,2d0327dd3a015c8572b199fb933effa1, {gen_server,start_link, [couch_rep, [2d0327dd3a015c8572b199fb933effa1, {[{source,rtg%29test}, {target, {[{url, https://couchdb.one.ubuntu.com/u%2F630%2Fb96%2F52053%2Frtg%29test;}, {auth, {[{oauth, {[{consumer_secret, hammertime}, {token, SRTj2PtxBblm3SCJXcZj}, {consumer_key,ubuntuone}, {token_secret, Secret!}]}}]}}]}}]}, {user_ctx,Secret,[_admin]}], []]},\n temporary,1,worker, [couch_rep]}}}')) In principle, I think it is a very bad idea to try and scrub data out of a python exception that goes into the log. This is a python exception wrapping an HTTP 500 errror from CouchDB, with an erlang crash report stuffed into the body of the 500 page. However, because the format of the erlang crash reports is so strict and regular, I wonder whether it would be reasonable to try and parse out the line {token_secret, Secret!}. Even if we did this, it would not guarantee that couchdb crash info that went into the log file would be safe for the public to see. I think this bug should be put back to fix committed, and we should not try to sanitize python exceptions before they are written to the log. Hi Martin, upstream does not publish a changelog which is why I asked for an upstream rabbitMQ developer to write in this bug report. You can see the results here, and I think they meet the criteria for bugfixes: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rabbitmq- server/+bug/528220/comments/1 The only thing that could be argued as a new feature is that rabbitmqctl now has 'list_channels and 'list_consumers' commands. Re: [Bug 528265] Re: oauth credential setup involves communication with localhost
Noscript is crack and it's author has been caught putting very questionable code in. If people have noscript installed my answer is always to remove/disable it if they want support. That said, this design for oauth via the browser causes plenty of confusion for users (much of it comes from a broken xdg-open), and we are working on changing the auth mechanism to happen in the control panel app instead of the browser so that it's less scary and fragile. I would be happy to prepare an upload on Thursday (tomorrow), I'm just wrapping up at PyCon and about to get on a plane. I am a bit uncertain about the correct way to prepare this upload with bzr: I think we want lp:debian/sid/oprofile with a new changelog entry and my postinst script that creates the needed oprofile user. [Bug 525932] [NEW] opjitconv is not installed, breaking oprofiling of Python Unladen Swallow JIT (or anything else that uses LLVM JIT)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: oprofile Working on http://code.google.com/p/unladen-swallow/ at PyCon 2010, I discovered that oprofile does not work for samples emitted by the LLVM JIT (they show up as anonymous rather than being linked to the python source, line and name). The problem is that the oprofile package was not installing the opjitconv binary which is needed for opreport to be able to create useful reports on the JIT samples. I have built an tested a package which does install opjitconv, and this enables profiling to work as expected. I will propose a branch for this now, and would like to also push this fix back into Karmic as it should be very low risk and the missing binary makes it very hard for anyone wanting to do profiling to speed up python. ** Affects: oprofile (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- opjitconv is not installed, breaking oprofiling of Python Unladen Swallow JIT (or anything else that uses LLVM JIT) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/525932 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Bringing oprofile 0.9.6 into Lucid is a good idea, I feel like this will solve more problems than it introduces. This version fixes many problems with profiling, including making it usable on 64bit machines (previous versions had a problem with a 32bit overflow, making profiling only useful on 32 bit machines). [Bug 515349] Re: Sync foolscap 0.5.0+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Debian import freeze is on Feb 11th, I expect that foolscap will migrate to testing and miss import freeze by 1 day. If it's really necessary for me to wait 10 days and then re-request this, I can, but I was hoping to avoid that delay. The reason I want to get this synced sooner rather than later is because it's a dependency for Tahoe-LAFS, and Zooko was trying to get the new Tahoe-LAFS release done before Lucid freeze and would like to be able to rely on the new version of foolscap. I went ahead and first updated foolscap in debian as a courtesy to try and make this new package available as widely as possible, but I'd like to avoid the delay for waiting for the migration to testing. The two rdepends for this package are ipython and Tahoe-LAFS, and I've tested that ipython parallel computation engine works fine with this new version of foolscap, so it should be a very low-risk update. -- Sync foolscap 0.5.0+dfsg-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515349 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 506985] Re: Upgrade from rabbitmq-server 1.54 - 1.7.0 wiped users and vhosts
I'm confused about how to do this, debian policy states that A special exception is made for packages which declare that they break their own package name or a virtual package which they provide (see below): this does not count as a real breakage.. http://www.debian.org/doc/debian- policy/ch-relationships.html I've tried adding a Breaks: rabbitmq-server ( 1.5.4-0) and don't see any warning or complaint when trying to install with dpkg when 1.5.4 is currently installed. I'm probably missing something simple, but google is not helping me tonight so I'm attaching the patch and will look for help on IRC sometime tomorrow. ** Attachment added: breaks.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38067188/breaks.patch -- Upgrade from rabbitmq-server 1.54 - 1.7.0 wiped users and vhosts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to rabbitmq-server in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 507301] Re: Ubuntu One web UI not showing files
Hi! Sorry you ran into this problem. I changed the summary because from what I read in the description there was no data loss, although the web UI was not showing files. I can tell you more about what happened - there was a subtle change to a database index that worked fine in testing but caused some performance problems in production. It took us a couple of hours to track down why the queries were running so slowly, and during that time the web UI would time out before it could get a response from the database when trying to populate the file view. I believe this problem is fix released now, if you notice any other problems or are still not seeing the correct behavior, please do reopen this bug. ** Summary changed: - DATA LOSS Ubuntu One corrupted syncing to web + Ubuntu One web UI not showing files ** Changed in: ubuntuone-client (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- Ubuntu One web UI not showing files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507301 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
