I solved this problem by creating a simple rule in the Windows Behaviour, under System settings. I simply set, for any type of normal window, to remeber the size. [Bug 281193] [NEW] manual setup don't work in knetworkmanager if dhcp server is present
Public bug reported: Release: kubuntu intrepid beta I have a dhcp network with a range set up. If I leave it to work like that, everything is fine. However, for security reasons, everyone that gets an IP from dhcp doesn't have internet access per dhcp server config. My workstation is not supposed to get the ip from dhcp. I am putting in a manual config for this purpose, but knetworkmanager would not set it up. Even after I declared my network manually, I see it in the menu, but clicking it doesn't do anything, and my IP address remains on the one set by the DHCP server. I used to have problems doing this even on hardy, but managed to solve it by editing /etc/network/interfaces manually. This workaround doesn't work anymore, as the address gets reassigned anyway by networkmanager, so I had to disable the service entirely. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- manual setup don't work in knetworkmanager if dhcp server is present https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 147623] Re: [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black.
I think we must all be very very careful here. We have two very distinct problems which show themselves with similar behaviour. But, they're separated and must remain that way. 32 bit Ubuntu, within a particular (unknown??) set of circumstances (hw config maybe) screwes up the usplash resolution, resulting in black screen and slow boot times. But 64 bits Ubuntu, which we are discussing here, has a completely different matter. Still a black screen, but boot time is normal. The first is caused by a problem whithin the installation (wrong res) followed by a problem in vesafb-tng, which when set to the wrong res, takes ages to boot. It shouldn't do that, IMHO. The second is caused, as I was saying before, by completely missing vesa driver in 64 bit linux that works with recent cards. I really want to be precise, because I've seen many times the two problems blending together and generating much confusion. Thanks anyway! -- [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 147623] Re: [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black.
Ok, I think I got what the problem is. And, unfortunately, I think the solution is out of reach, at least for me. It seems we x86_64 are simply short of a usable working vesa module! That's right, because: vesafb doesn't work with newer cards. The fact that with x86 it works, it's because it is, in reality, vesafb-tng, the newer release, which of course isn't availabe on x86_64. nvidiafb or ati equivalent doesn't work because thay won't work with the proprietary driver. There is an alternative: uvesafb (http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock/projects/uvesafb/), which is the evolution of vesafb-tng. It works on every architecture and it's completely userland. It needs a kernel patch, though, and offer also some new features, like VESA 3.0 compatibility. If Ubuntu's folks can implement uvesafb, we should be set! ;) -- [EM64T]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 156341] Re: ubuntu 7.10 and ATI = black screen?
It can't possibly be the X server, not right after the bootloader countdown! I've seen the exact same behaviour with a notebook here. Try this: press escape during countdown to access the grub boot menu. Keeping the default kernel selected, press E to enter edit mode, jump on the line starting with kernel and press E again to edit that line. Finally, from the end of the line, remove quiet and splash parameters. Press ENTER and then B to boot. You will boot in text mode and if your situation is like mine, all should start ok. What I think happens here is that during installation, a wrong graphic mode is selected for the boot process. The boot is also really really slow, but is extremely fast when using this trick. -- ubuntu 7.10 and ATI = black screen? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/156341 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 47649] Re: Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated)
Just a little clarification of my point of view. I appreciate all the suggestion aimed at resolving my problem. I really appreciate the (k)ubuntu community. What I would like to see regarding this bug is, however, a solution to the underlaying problem. What I see instead is trying to find an app which can circumvent it. Who knows if maybe in the future the problems gets worse and I cannot print anymore with my kubuntu install? I would really like to avoid that. And, moreover, I'm puzzled and worries about the selection of some packages release, like ghostscript being an svn snapshot into what should be a stable release. That is probably also the root of the problem itself. When you look at Debian sid, which is all but a stable platform, and you see it's a few releases _behind_, you really start to wonder if the choice was sound. When the aim of (k)ubuntu is, among other things, stability itself, I wonder even more. Sorry for the little venting. [Bug 47649] Re: Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated)
Well, one day (less actually) away from 7.10 release, and this bug it's still there. Shame. Fortunately, I came up with a solution: using acrobat reader 7 from the medibuntu repository does work. It's the only pdf viewer which prints landscape documents correctly in kubuntu 7.10. I can also add that ubuntu rc 7.10 shows the same disfunction. One question: is it really necessary to use svn quality software in a release, like what's happening with ghostscript? Hell, even Debian sid is not using it... -- Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 47649] Re: Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated)
Apparently, even the document viewer in ubuntu prints correctly. So, it appears that if the viewer is intelligent enough to rotate the document before sending it out to print, it's all ok, but if the viewer relies on ghostscript to do the work (like kpdf, acroread v8 and even plain lpr do, I suppose), the prints gets screwed up. This is as far as I could go. I hope to have given enough data to work with.
Just to add some fresh info on the subject: In current Gutsy, the problem is still present. In addition, all PDF related applications seems to have the same problem. I tried kpdf as well as Acrobat reader and even printing a pdf from the command line using lpr. All have the same behaviour of printing in portrait mode and with the truncated output. lpr prints in landscape when passing the -o landscape command line option, but the printing is useless anyway because the margins are way off. I can confirm that the pdf attached by Luke (booking_form_2006.pdf) still works flawlessly.
Another thing: the unofficial package of kpdf mentioned by Daniel Frein, compiled without poppler dependency, still works. I think, before Gutsy gets released, something has to be done here. Maybe excluding poppler completely. [Bug 47649] Re: Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated)
I made some further tests. The problem seems a little bit more complex than I thought. To avoid wrong conclusion, I simply report here the tests I've done: Using a .ps produced with the gutsy repos kpdf, on a debian etch machine the file opens correctly in kghostview and also prints correctly. This would seem to indicate the .ps file gets generated correctly, _even_ with poppler involved. Kghostview on gutsy, otoh, displays only half picture, exactly matching the printing problem. Gv, on gutsy, displays the file correctly. I hope someone can come up with something. If I had to take a guess, I would point my finger to ghostscript, which is currently an svn snapshot in gutsy. -- Landscape PDF printed as portrait (and truncated) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 130294] Re: Manage Repositories performs fetch updates
I had this same behaviour this morining when upgrading Gutsy. I think I found a way to restore the original behaviour, and even a possible cause, although very strange. This morning update got interrupted because a file couldn't be downloaded. The update I thought it was finished instead never got completed, and the other new packages were never really installed. In this situation, I had the behaviour descripted in the bug. As soon as I did a apt-get -f install from a console, and let all the packages to install, thus terminating the interrupted upgrade process, adept restarted to work normally. I have to say that, in the past, it already happened to have quite strange behaviours from adept, when installation of packages dont go as planned. It seems it is completely unable to handle interrupted install process, and gets all sorts of strange behaviour if this situation occurs. -- Manage Repositories performs fetch updates https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
