[Bug 2067196] [NEW] FTBFS gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 fails to build without python3-six

2024-05-26 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 was synced from Debian to Ubuntu Oracular but fails
to build with the following error message:

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'six'

amd64.gitsome_0.8.0+ds-9_BUILDING.txt.gz)

Interestingly enough, the same package builds successfully in Debian Sid. One
notable difference is that python3-six is installed as part of the build:
Get: 102 http://deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 python3-six all
1.16.0-6 [16.3 kB]

I could not find a corresponding line in the build log for Ubuntu. I am
not sure why, but adding the build dependency manually fixes the build.

The question is how to address this. I will add a debdiff below which
resolves the issue to make gitsome build successfully. Normally the
patch should be forwarded or applied to Debian, though for now this only
seems to be a problem in Ubuntu. Also, it looks Debian is pulling in
python3-six as a transitive dependency but I don't know how to drill
down where it comes from to see the actual delta between Debian and
Ubuntu causing this issue.

[Bug 2065422] Re: Misleading error creating python virtual environment, says need to install python3.11-venv

2024-05-20 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Hm... might be due to it being an upgrade with some packages or config
lingering. That explains why I didn't see it because I tested on a clean
install as well. Could you please check
$ ls -la `command -v python3`
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Apr 12 15:29 /usr/bin/python3 -> python3.12

whether it is pointing to python3.11 somehow?

[Bug 2065422] Re: Misleading error creating python virtual environment, says need to install python3.11-venv

2024-05-12 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I was unable to reproduce this issue. I get the same message, but the
suggestion is `apt install python3.12-venv`. That's more expected, since
as you mentioned Python 3.11 was removed before release of 24.04
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.11/+publishinghistory)

The python3 binary is a symlink to the actual python version handled by
python3-defaults, so I've taken the liberty of moving this bug report there. It
would be interesting to see which package version you are running. My system
lists
$ dpkg -S `command -v python3`
python3-minimal: /usr/bin/python3
$ apt policy python3-minimal
python3-minimal:
  Installed: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

And or run `apport-collect 2065422` which will add additional debug
information to the bug report. I'm curious whether this is a fresh
install or upgrade from an older Ubuntu release.

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

Normally this error occurs when the same file is present in both packages, so
they should be conflicting to ensure only one of them are installed at a time.
However, when I didn't get the same error when installing both on Ubuntu 24.04
and I cannot see the duplicate files listed when comparing the two either

[Bug 2065256] [NEW] Sync gnuradio 3.10.10.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-05-09 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

Please sync gnuradio 3.10.10.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * No-change rebuild for CVE-2024-3094
  * No-change rebuild for CVE-2024-3094
  * No-change rebuild with Python 3.12 as default
  * Drop build dependency on shared library libqt5core5a.

Build dependency on libqt5core5a has been dropped from the Debian
package too.

Changelog entries since current oracular version 3.10.9.2-1.1ubuntu2:

gnuradio (3.10.10.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
- Runtime
  * Modernize location of config files. XDG_CONFIG_HOME will be used if set
(often $HOME/.config). This change attempts to be backward compatible with
existing config file locations, but be aware that config files may show up
in the old ($HOME/.gnuradio/) and new ($XDG_CONFIG_HOME/gnuradio)
locations depending on GNU Radio version. Files are not automatically
moved, since some users run multiple versions of GNU Radio.
  * Ctrlport Probe, Ctrlport Probe PSD and gr-ctrlport-monitor.
Ctrlport Monitor blocks are still broken.
- GRC
  * NEW Qt-based front end! Run gnuradio-companion --qt to try it
out. This feature is still in testing, so the Gtk front end runs by
default. In a future release, Qt will become the default, removing Gtk
as a manditory dependency. Maintenance will focus on the Qt front end
at that point.
  * Restore property field background colors (as a View option, off by
default) for the Gtk front end. Background colors were previously
replaced with textual type string.
  * The canvas can be panned using the middle mouse button
  * C++ code generation improvements related to parameters and strings
  * C++ code generation fixed for Add Const
- gr-audio
  * Added 96 kHz and 192 kHz selections to ALSA source/sink
- gr-blocks
  * Float To UChar block adds vector support,
and also scale and bias params
- gr-digital
  * Additive Scrambler adds soft symbol handling
  * Add callback to set header format in Digital Protocol Formatter
- modtool
  * Improvements to handling of Python blocks
(add, rm, and rename work reliably)
  * New parseable manifest format (yaml instead of md) to better
support the OOT ecosystem
  * Manifest and examples are installed by "make install"
  * Update standards version to 4.7.0, no changes needed.

[Bug 2046052] Re: `KeyError: ('cmdline-tools','latest')` on `sdkmanager --install "cmdline-tools; latest"`

2024-05-07 Thread Hans-Christoph Steiner
This works for me in v0.6.4:

 ~ $ sdkmanager --install "cmdline-tools;latest"
Downloading
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/commandlinetools-linux-11391160_latest.zip
 into /home/hans/.cache/sdkmanager/commandlinetools-linux-11391160_latest.zip
Unzipping to /tmp/.sdkmanager-olwn0xvm
Installing into /tmp/android-sdk/cmdline-tools/latest
 ~ $

You can get recent versions from the PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~fdroid/+archive/ubuntu/fdroidserver

[Bug 2061924] Re: grip missing from (pre)noble (2024-04-16)

2024-04-17 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>I'm just not sure why I don't see some matching reference ubuntu-side.

If you go to the package overview page, in the upper right corner you
have a link to the publishing history. According to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grip/+publishinghistory it was
removed during the 23.04 cycle, and it looks to be the same issues which
got it removed from Debian testing. Presumably these two issues need to
be resolved and then a newer version would be autosynced from Debian to
Ubuntu at a future point.

[Bug 1878279] Re: MSFT0004:00 06CB:CD98 Touchpad/trackpad mouse randomly not recognized from any given boot

2022-05-13 Thread Hans de Goede
Sorry that it is taking so long to fix this. There have been several
attempts at fixing this upstream already, but all of them had to be
reverted/dropped because they were causing issues on other laptop
models.

The latest attempt at fixing this is here:
https://lore.kernel.org/linux-pci/20220512202511.34197-2-hdego...@redhat.com/

And this patch, or something close to it will hopefully go upstream
soon.

Perhaps one of the Ubuntu kernel devs can provide a test kernel with
this patch for Ubuntu users with this problem to test?

You can subscribe Ubuntu package archive admins
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-archive), either on this issue or by
reporting a separate removal request in the form of a bug report. They
can remove it from the current Ubuntu development release. Not sure
about the Debian process, but would assume that also requires a bug
report of some sort, which might be useful to reference.

[Bug 1968862] Re: tilix still depends on old llvm11

2022-04-13 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

It looks like tilix doesn't have a direct dependency on llvm11, but it
is pulled in through libphobos2-ldc-shared98. This in turn stem from the
ldc source package which ran into problems with newer llvm versions. See
bug 1951845 or the current Ubuntu delta for details. However, it looks
like a newer version of ldc is in -proposed, which might resolve this...

[Bug 1946538] Re: Update to Maliit 2.x

2022-04-10 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
>my gut feeling is that Debian would appreciate helping hands:

Thanks for finding those links. I wasn't aware someone had picked it up.

From what I can see, the new 2.x packages are currently waiting in
Debian's NEW queue (https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html). Once they
are accepted there, I assume they will be synced to the next Ubuntu
development release.

I've added a bug watch for the corresponding Debian report to package
the new versions, which should notify once the packages are accepted and
uploaded.

** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #991528

[Bug 1967332] Re: The gobjc-9 package has missing dependencies

2022-04-09 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for providing additional information.

Looking at the output, the candidate version (i.e. which version will be
installed) is pointing to 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 for the first two
packages. So they are aware and would install the .1 versions.

However, gcc-9-base seems to stick to the previous version. Could this
package have been pinned or held somehow?

Comparing with my output, it's pointing at the .1 version
$ apt policy gcc-9-base
gcc-9-base:
  Installert: 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1
  Kandidat: 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1
  Versjonstabell:
 *** 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 500
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64
Packages
500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 9.3.0-10ubuntu2 500
500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages

So the root cause here seems to be when installing the packages most
will go for .1 versions in order to be in sync, but since gcc-9-base is
still at the previous version with no newer candidate, it cannot sync up
all the versions. I'm afraid I don't know why that would be the case,
but setting this report back to new for someone else to take a look at
it :)

[Bug 1968313] Re: Bash manual contains an error in the "Invocation" section

2022-04-09 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1216969 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1216969

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

While looking into this issue, I found that it has been discovered and
reported by various people over the years. I'm trying to gather the
reports into one single place, so I'm marking this as a duplicate of bug
1216969.

[Bug 1216969] Re: man page names the same file twice -- are there really 2?

2022-04-09 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Can confirm this issue is still present in bash 5.1-6ubuntu1 on Ubuntu
Jammy (
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/jammy/en/man1/bash.1.html#invocation
). It has been discovered and reported by various people over the years
(see the attached bug watch for a corresponding Debian report), so I'm
trying to gather the duplicates in one place her.

>It doesn't seem to be upstream bash,

No, this is also confirmed by duplicate bug 1968313

I believe it should be a simple fix, but I unfortunately don't know what
the first ~/.bashrc should be replaced with.

[Bug 1967332] Re: The gobjc-9 package has missing dependencies

2022-04-03 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

I tried reproducing this issue, and was able to install gobjc-9 without
any problems on Ubuntu 20.04 Could you run `sudo apt update` and check
if the problems persists? The binary packages mentioned is built from
the same source package
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-9/9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1)
so they should be in sync. However, it can be the case that some mirror
or package refresh was temporarily out of sync, offering some new and
some older packages.

If you still have this problem, please attach the output from apt policy
gobjc-9 libobjc-9-dev gcc-9-base which will tell us which versions are
available.
