[Bug 2067196] [NEW] FTBFS gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 fails to build without python3-six
Public bug reported: gitsome 0.8.0+ds-9 was synced from Debian to Ubuntu Oracular but fails to build with the following error message: ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'six' (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/730825470/buildlog_ubuntu-oracular- amd64.gitsome_0.8.0+ds-9_BUILDING.txt.gz) Interestingly enough, the same package builds successfully in Debian Sid. One notable difference is that python3-six is installed as part of the build: Get: 102 http://deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 python3-six all 1.16.0-6 [16.3 kB] (https://tests.reproducible-builds.org/debian/rb-pkg/unstable/amd64/gitsome.html) I could not find a corresponding line in the build log for Ubuntu. I am not sure why, but adding the build dependency manually fixes the build. The question is how to address this. I will add a debdiff below which resolves the issue to make gitsome build successfully. Normally the patch should be forwarded or applied to Debian, though for now this only seems to be a problem in Ubuntu. Also, it looks Debian is pulling in python3-six as a transitive dependency but I don't know how to drill down where it comes from to see the actual delta between Debian and Ubuntu causing this issue. [Bug 2065422] Re: Misleading error creating python virtual environment, says need to install python3.11-venv
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better. I was unable to reproduce this issue. I get the same message, but the suggestion is `apt install python3.12-venv`. That's more expected, since as you mentioned Python 3.11 was removed before release of 24.04 (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.11/+publishinghistory) The python3 binary is a symlink to the actual python version handled by python3-defaults, so I've taken the liberty of moving this bug report there. It would be interesting to see which package version you are running. My system lists $ dpkg -S `command -v python3` python3-minimal: /usr/bin/python3 $ apt policy python3-minimal python3-minimal: Installed: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status And or run `apport-collect 2065422` which will add additional debug information to the bug report. I'm curious whether this is a fresh install or upgrade from an older Ubuntu release. ** Package changed: python3.11 (Ubuntu) => python3-defaults (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: python3-defaults (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Tags added: nobl ** Tags removed: nobl ** Tags added: noble -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065422 Title: Misleading error creating python virtual environment, says need to install python3.11-venv To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3-defaults/+bug/2065422/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better. [Bug 2061924] Re: grip missing from (pre)noble (2024-04-16)
>I'm just not sure why I don't see some matching reference ubuntu-side. If you go to the package overview page, in the upper right corner you have a link to the publishing history. According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grip/+publishinghistory it was removed during the 23.04 cycle, and it looks to be the same issues which got it removed from Debian testing. [Bug 1932069] Re: Touchpad not working at all
Sorry that it is taking so long to fix this. There have been several attempts at fixing this upstream already, but all of them had to be reverted/dropped because they were causing issues on other laptop models. The latest attempt at fixing this is here: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-pci/20220512202511.34197-2-hdego...@redhat.com/ And this patch, or something close to it will hopefully go upstream soon. Perhaps one of the Ubuntu kernel devs can provide a test kernel with this patch for Ubuntu users with this problem to test? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932069 Title: Touchpad not working at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1932069/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1967332] Re: The gobjc-9 package has missing dependencies
Thanks for providing additional information. Looking at the output, the candidate version (i.e. which version will be installed) is pointing to 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 for the first two packages. So they are aware and would install the .1 versions. However, gcc-9-base seems to stick to the previous version. Could this package have been pinned or held somehow? Comparing with my output, it's pointing at the .1 version $ apt policy gcc-9-base gcc-9-base: Installert: 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 Kandidat: 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 Versjonstabell: *** 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 9.3.0-10ubuntu2 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages So the root cause here seems to be when installing the packages most will go for .1 versions in order to be in sync, but since gcc-9-base is still at the previous version with no newer candidate, it cannot sync up all the versions.
