[Bug 1860806] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 new ethernet problem
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1576953 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576953 Bug 1576953 I have latest BIOS for Optiplex 7010 which is A29. This does not help. Furthermore, looking at bug 1576953 I can clearly see a response to questions being asked. This worthless site is no more that an content mill closed to the general public as every time I have presented any questions I get absolutely NO RESPONSE. So now I go from 19.04 to 18.04 as per worthless Paul White recommendation and have since then been talking to myself and the worthless Ubuntu Bot to which at this point my only hope is that people will read my comments and realize that only the chosen few will get any response from this worthless web site. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860806 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 new ethernet problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1860806/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1860806] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 new ethernet problem
I replaced Ubuntu 19.04 with 18.04 LTS. The problem is still the same. 1. Power up computer 2. Ethernet icon does not show. "Wired..." does not show. No network access. 3. Restart computer (soft boot). 4. Ethernet icon returns as well as Internet access. Note: I ran apport-collect 1860806 AFTER the reset process since I have no Internet access before that time, so likely the problem will not be obvious. [Bug 1600753] Re: System Settings missing icons
If you set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME and then run gnome-control-center from the command line you're just running unity-control-center instead. This isn't making gnome-control-center work, it's just running a different app. When I go to /usr/share/applications in Terminal I see two separate files: gnome-control-center.desktop and unity-control-center.desktop In PCManFM they both show up as "System Settings". You don't see the unity version in non-Unity desktops because it has the line "OnlyShowIn=Unity;". I created a new version of this file and called it: unity-control-center-LXDE.desktop Then I modified it so it would show up in my LXDE menu. I also added it to my task bar, so now whenever I want systems settings I run the unity version. Now all my bluetooth problems have gone away as I can run "Bluetooth" from the Hardware section of system settings, then go right to "Sound" and switch to my headset speakers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1600753 Title: System Settings missing icons To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1600753/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

For example, you may type 'on', but it is detected as 'no'. Only happens when typing fast, but the key presses are DEFINITELY in the right order when typed -they just come out the wrong way round. Searching has shown no similar issues reported, either for Ubuntu or other distro's. Happy to help diagnose as necessary. ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392993 Title: Slow keyboard response including key presses reversed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1392993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1247189] Re: Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user
Hmm, I'm still seeing this with an apparently up to date 14.04. It's an Acer Aspire 1301 which until I installed 14.04 (fresh on SSD) was working fine. What I have noticed is that I can now only use the Nouveau drivers - the Nvidia ones are hopeless - crashes with major rendering issues almost straight away. Again, all was fine prior to 14.04. The death is infrequent - can use for a couple of days over multiple simultaneous logins, then get a lock when switching users. alt-ctrl-f1 drops me back to a terminal, alt-ctrl-f7 back to the frozen display. So next time it happens, what is the best way of capturing a log? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247189 Title: Ubuntu freezes completely when switching user To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1247189/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 516520] Re: login fails with nvidia driver 96
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 553200 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/553200 First of all I do not see any connection between this bug and 553200. This is a login loop issue, not a keyboard/mouse issue. I also have a nvidia card and a login loop issue. I am running Ubuntu 9.10. I have found this to be a timing issue with the video card. If I log in over and over, I eventually get into the system. There are many people with this problem. Many think they have a solution, but the problem is intermittent. At one point, I did not see an issue for about 4 weeks, then it came back. Google "Ubuntu 9.10 login loop" and you will see various hits (including http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1338879). Also google "ubuntu xorg.conf". Ubuntu 9.10 does not have a xorg.conf by default. However I regenerated an xorg.conf for my system (gdm stop, sudo Xorg -configure, ...). After doing so, I still had the problem, but did not have to do as many retries. Some people report that after trying some change, they only need a couple of login tries to login. This is because the change they made CHANGED THE TIMING ON THEIR SYSTEM. People with a slower CPU will have less problems. I proved this on my computer by moving the mouse back and forth very rapidly during the login process (after entering my password). I was able to log in with success almost every time. This problem slipped through testing because the programmer had a slow system. The fix will be to add software delays during the login process to allow the nvidia card to change resolution and any other setup it needs between login and the main gui. -- login fails with nvidia driver 96 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516520 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 548992] Re: Wireless connection frequently drops [deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)]
Further investigation after my post here #28. I am pretty sure this is a DHCP issue. If I am using DHCP, then I get the failures. If I define a static IP address, then things 'appear' to work OK. Still looking in to it, but certainly changing to static IP, the wireless link starts and stays up - on DHCP the link wouldn't even start up. Further to my comment above, this is the content from end of /var/log/daemon.log. It appears to be timing out on a DHCP request. Since my AP hasn't changed in years, it must be a change at the Ubuntu end that has produced this issue. Since the last update, my workaround no longer works around, so am a bit stuck. [Bug 548992] Re: Wireless connection frequently drops [deauthenticating by local choice (reason=3)]
Me too I am afraid. Using Lucid, with a BlueNext BN-WD54g USB adapter (lsusb gives ...Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter) . Used to work fine on all previous version (from about 6.x). Behaviour is most odd. Just spent an hour trying to get it to work - different USB ports etc, redoing connection settings, rebooting router, different but same model adapter. Then plugged in a 3COM adapter to same port which started working straight away. Just for fun, I then plugged in the bluenext device as well - and it started working, and continued to work after the 3COM was removed. I then unplugged it, then plugged in to a different port and it kept working, so plugging in the 3COM seems to have kicked the system in to working! Like I said - odd! Last chunk of dmsg.. [Bug 520186] Re: opens for a few seconds then closes.
I perhaps wasn't clear enough in my posting. I first got this problem when using New Wave, so after finding various bug reports related to themes I changed to New Look (I think) and the bug went away. However, I then did a update via the updater and the problem returned. I am not sure what was updated but it was, I think, done on the 15th Feb. I cannot confirm specifically that the update caused the issue, but its the only thing I can think off that changed at the time the fault re- occurred. I have tried various themes and the problem still occurs. -- opens for a few seconds then closes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/520186 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also am getting an error similar to this. Originally the problem was fixed by not using the new Wave theme'. However, after a recent system update via the update manager the fault returned - all the themes tried have produced the same result - a crash after a few seconds of runnning. [Bug 367448] [NEW] gcu-pluging prevents nspluginwrapper and flash install on jaunty 9.04
Public bug reported: Many people are seeing problems with the flash plugin when upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty. Some of these are due to "nspluginwrapper -a -v -u" being run during the install, which scans for plugins to wrap in nspluginwrapper. It seems that the gcu-plugin causes nspluginwrapper to segfault (error 139). [Bug 177001] Re: Rocklight only runs as Root
Thanks to updated comment for the package by Daniel Schwitzgebel (http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10942254/rocklight_0.1-2ubuntu1.debdiff), I realized this bug is a permission issue. To fix (non-permanently): sudo chmod a+rw /proc/acpi/ibm/light Note that this is a small security issue, but I find it acceptable to get rocklight to work. How would one make this permanent? Should it be part of the rocklight package? -- Rocklight only runs as Root https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/177001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rocklight Rocklight seems to only run as root. The plugin appears in xmms, but doesn't do anything when activated. According to http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=475930 others have seen this problem. [Bug 140833] Re: Gutsy compiz won't enable on intel 965 laptop after 9/18/07 updates
On a thinkpad R61 (with a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100) that compiz worked out of the box on (Gutsy tribe 5) the 9/19/07 update caused this error (blacklisting). Running SKIP_CHECKS=1 compiz --replace & or the above permanent edit got compiz running again. I do see odd glitches in some video programs (celestia comes to mind) when compiz is running that I don't see otherwise, but it's not a showstopper for me. Is there a bug to post on concerning the video problems that I could bugtest to help to clear up the underlying problem and get the blacklisting removed? [Bug 139660] Screen garbled (colored boxes) during package install
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer I attempted to use the Ubuntu daily build 20070911 of Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 pre-release (alternate install disk for amd64) on a new ThinkPad R61 laptop with manual partitioning, with english keyboard and locale selection. Installation went well, but halfway through the package install step, all the characters on the screen (including the ASCI-based progress bar) switched to multi-colored ASCI-like small boxes instead of characters. The progress, packages being installd, and on-screen instructions were unreadable, and it was impossible to tell when the process was done. Everything was fine after I allowed the installation to finish and the computer rebooted. When I used Ctl-Alt-F1 to switch to other virtual terminals, their text was similarly garbled. I’ll test the daily build tonight (20070914) and see if the bug is still there. ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screen garbled (colored boxes) during package install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139660 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
